I had ordered takeout, no need to eat at the restaurant because I was dogsitting. When I gave the server a $20, she asked me if I wanted my change. That caught me by surprise. Since when do I not want change? But then I realized she was asking for a tip. It offended me. I wasn't eating in, I wasn't being served. I was simply paying for my order to take home. You've got a lot of nerve asking that question. I told her fine, keep it. I won't be back. You get paid to take orders and bring then to the front. Tipping is when you serve a table. Somehow it got to where everyone wants a tip now, and it's annoying. I went to Jiffy Lube for an oil change, and they too asked for a tip. That dog don't hunt. I won't go back there either. Seems you should be thankful we gave you our business. Everyone is tired of it. Pretty soon people will stop tipping altogether if you keep abusing our gratuitous nature. Watch and see. When this place was owned by the previous owner, the food quality was definitely better. I've had breakfast there several times, my friends lives in Auburn and it's the spot they like to go to. Got the eggs Benedict, which were not bad, but the hashbrowns were so soggy and tasted pre-frozen. I asked for them to be "extra crispy" and they came out the same as the rest of the hashbrowns at the table. I remember having breakfast here before when it was called Dine n Dash, it was much better. Service was great no issue there the place is nice. It's got a good ambience. Maybe dinner would be better? My buddy and I were looking for a breakfast place on our trip and found this gem. Place of big and newer. My Benedict was great and I liked the lemon touch in the hollandaise sauce. Coffee was really impressive. The staff was so nice like I felt I was in my relatives kitchen having a nice time. The restaurant is well-lighted, not too loud, with enough space between tables to foster personalized dining experiences. Good breakfast stop in Colfax. Feeling an omelette & choose the California Supreme, with bacon, shrooms, Ortega Chiles, pepper jack cheese,topped with sour cream, avocado and sour cream. Came out quickly hot & filling. Opted for the biscuits and gravy. Rich with fresh made biscuits, chunks of sausage in the gravy. Mrs D's French dip was rated at two thumbs up. Ten guys showed up at lunchtime on a Thursday. We were seated and our drink orders were taken as we came in. We were seated in front of the new electronic fireplace. The restaurant has received a makeover since our last visit and it looks good. We ordered across the menu and all food was excellent. All ten orders arrived together. First time coming here. First impression was that I didn't care for the ambiance or the music. I almost left though the waitress got to me before I did so I stayed. She was hard working as she was the only waitstaff and had lots of table inside and outside. She was doing an awesome job. I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon hash browns and biscuit and gravy. The eggs were fine, the hash browns were okay though they only brown one side of them and the were a bit oily. The bacon was not good. Tasted like old bacon and some of it was undercooked. I sent it back and replaced it with sausages. However, the sausages were overcooked and burnt. The highlight of my meal was the biscuit and gravy. It was really great. I loved the flavor of the gravy. I'd come back and get the biscuit and gravy with eggs and skip the potatoes and meats. read more

The inside doesn't match the outside. It has a very welcoming outdoorsy vibe. They also have a pretty big back patio to sit down and dine. I was able to try multiple dishes, however my order was their "South Western" salad. I read all the ingredients and was excited but ended up super disappointment. The salad was missing jicama, avocado and the tortillas strips. It also was suppose to come with ancho chile grilled chicken. The chicken had zero seasoning and was very very bland. I'd give the salad a 3/10. More like 3 1/2 stars. Great place to stop on the way to Truckee/Tahoe area. We picked it due to it having a dog friendly patio and an array of menu items that sounded good. Both my wife and I chose the house burger. To me the fries were the star of the plate. Double fried and crispy tasty nuggets - yum! The burger was good, not great. Went here with my mother and father and 12-year-old daughter and everyone loved their meal. It's a nice size restaurant with lots of seating. Our waitress was especially sweet and kind. She indulged us teaching my 12-year-old about paying bills and ordering food. I would definitely stop by here again if wherever on our way out of town that direction! Needed to get out of the fog so we headed East! Convenient location, right off the freeway-we arrived about 9:30am on a Sunday and were seated right away, definitely got busier after 10. Nice decor, dark but very open and spacious. Food was good, gravy was delicious and the Bloody Mary with bacon was fantastic! Salt and pepper shakers need an upgrade. When the place was Dine 'n' Dash, I'd have given it zero stars due to two AWFUL meal experiences: an exploding catsup bottle (we were covered in catsup... no apology, no comp) and crumbly-dry, tasteless pancakes (WHO screws up pancakes?). Dine 'n' Dash made it onto my "30-year list". But I decided to cave and try Three Pines for dinner. I ordered Chicken Marsala... it was delicious! But it was a chicken breast served on a small-plated bed of garlic mash and covered with sauce... no vegetable, no salad (a simple dinner salad wasn't on the menu), no bread. Service is slow but nice. Some of the workers were just hanging out with friends at a table. Portions are very small especially when it comes to the steak. If you ask for something on your order to be properly prepared right the chef will personally walk out awkwardly and give you the dish. Place needs help. Solid 4 to 4.5. I had an end cut of prime rib, with asparagus. The meat was tender and had a wonderful smoky flavor. My husband had the short ribs which were tender and cooked very well. He said the garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. The price point is great for the quality of food offered. For what you pay, it's not a bad deal to eat here. A friend and I decided to stop by after a hike and get some lunch. The parking in front was full so we parked in the back and there was plenty of room and even EV stations, which was surprising. Nice little restaurant but a million flies. There were so many, they kept trying to land on our food and in our drinks. They either need to keep the doors closed or install screens on the doors if they intend to leave them hanging open. Driving home from camping at Rollins Lake, we passed by and immediately made a u-turn! Really glad we did. There was only one parking spot left in the back so we rushed in to get a table. The place was nicely decorated, clean, and spacious. We were sat down pretty quickly despite it being super busy at 11am on a Sunday morning. Our waitress let us know that they were unexpectedly slammed that morning because of a delay in the "Big boy" train scheduled to come to Colfax. So we anticipated a bit of a wait for the food. No worries, I enjoyed coffee and was happy that waitresses kept coming by to top it off. My food was phenomenal. Probably the best veggie omelet I've had in awhile. It was full of veggies and I opted to add ground sausage, which they were generous with the pesto and salsa were super fresh and flavorful- perfect compliment to the omelet. It was such a great local spot before and we dined there almost every Saturday for breakfast - especially, D N D's fabulous eggs Benedict. We've eaten there twice since the change (once just to eat and once to see Malarkey play) and determined we won't be going back - not willing to be charged half again as much for food that's no better than before. Day 2 of reopening after a major remodel from its days as Dine & Dash. From what I understand, it remains under the same ownership, just has a new look. The decor inside is sparkling clean with a more modern yet still woodsy feel, giving it a low key but classy vibe. We were there for breakfast. My friend had huevos rancheros, and raved about them. I had the garden omelette with mushrooms and asparagus. With a little added black pepper and hot sauce it hit the spot. A lot of items can be ordered gluten free which sadly a lot of places still don't do. Our server Amber was very friendly and helpful and provided excellent service. Even though it was only the second day of its reincarnation, things seemed to be running smoothly and efficiently. The outside dining area has also been redone. It's now really nice, with new furniture and repainted decks. There is a large patio cover for shade. There is a stage for bands once music returns. What an amazing fine this place is a true gem. We got here right after getting off the plane from Los Angeles to visit Tahoe not knowing what to expect at this restaurant and it was such a great transition into vacation mode. It has beautiful outdoor vibes a wonderful patio. The stuff is so welcoming and friendly. They were wonderful with our baby and made us feel so comfortable.
