The vegetable samosas were huge and the dough flaky. Came with two different sauces plus a delicious side if Chana Masala. Was a meal in itself. Also had Daal Makhani...yum! Love that we were given a spice level preference to all of the dishes we ordered. Came with an order of free Saffron rice which was also very fluffy and flavourful. When my husband and I came to visit Edmonton, I took him here as he was craving for an indian food. I used to eat here a lot when I feel for indian food. Its probably been over a year since I ate here after moving to US. The food was still good but not as good as before. On top of that, they ridiculously increased the price during lunch hour from $15+tax it is now a whopping $23+tax per person! Gosh we came here for the first time in years recently and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food and the selection. While I'm rarely in this area of town these days to to out to eat, we really enjoyed the buffet. Our three year old was free and that made the meal that much more affordable. We were happy to be seated at a distance from other patrons so that we weren't disrupting their meals with a toddler, but really our toddler was well behaved and quite happy to indulge in lots of fish, fruit, naan and rice. Honestly I couldn't have been more pleased with the food. I was a bit surprised that we adults got metal cups while the toddler got a breakable glass with a straw (but the toddler didn't break it or anything so all was well). Our water wasn't refreshed very frequently or anything but it is a buffet and we were all about the food. I rather loved the naan and the lamb, fish and chicken dishes with sauces along with some of the vegetarian options. I did really appreciate that all dishes were well labeled (though not with which dishes had cilantro which I guess is the one improvement I personally would appreciate but oh well!). The washroom was clean. In the past I've been here for various events including using the basement banquet space and I've always enjoyed the opportunity to eat here with friends. read more

This used to be ( before Covid) a great restaurant, but unfortunately the standard of the quality of ingredients ( meat particularly) has really gone down hill. The manager and 2 male staff as well aren't really paying attention and the service is truly suffering, so much so much that there isn't anyone going to eat there anymore. I've been there 16 times to eat the month of July to really try and find out what has gone wrong with the place. It's seriously looking like they will be forced to close this location, very sad actually, from once being such a vibrant, busy restaurant things have really sadly changed. i have eaten at this place for years and it is normally fantastic. however the last 2 times i ordered vegetable korma there wasnt any paneer at all which is listed in the description. i also ordered the large size butter chicken and it was in a different container but virtually the same size as the regular. i believe they are starting to cheap out to cut costs. i will give them one more chance before i stop ordering from them. I just ordered some food from there on April 12th, 2022 at 5 PM. Customer service was very poor and manager is not willing to listen. There was another manager used to be there but he is no longer there I been told. They charged me $4 for a can of Coke. I wish that old manager is there. He gives excellent customer service. It's been almost a year since the last time I went to New Asian Village. Verdict - it is just as good! We went on a late Saturday evening and there was a massive Indian birthday party going on when we walked in. Ah, to be a one year old. Must have been 30 people in their party and all I saw were presents everywhere. We got there around 8pm and place was still filling up after us (even though close at 10pm). We were hungry so all of us went for the buffet ($20.00/person) which is very reasonable. They had a lot of options to choose from, take a look at my previous review to see all of them - fresh naan bread, goat curry, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, mango pudding, etc. Pretty much the same offerings as last time with maybe one or two different vegetable items. Pretty good. Limited options on the west end, especially ones that are open late. read more

I always get the buffet, which has many options. I always order a side of the coconut naan which is beyond delicious. Great place for Indian food. Many vegetarian and vegan options. Come hungry and leave satisfied with a happy belly. The only thing I am not a fan of was the chai tea. I love chai tea and was very disappointed in the chai tea here. Yum yum! Been to this location 3 times and they never disappoint. I recommend trying the buffet for those who have never tried Indian food before so you can try many dishes and decide what you like. This was they first place I tried Indian food and I loved it and discovered how much I enjoy the food. It can seem intimidating but the buffet offers many selections both vegetarian and meat that make for a fun experience. For those who are unsure where to start, I suggest the butter chicken over saffron rice and pakoras, along with the tandoori chicken with some fresh made Naan bread. Such a wonderful experience with yummy food for just under $24 person. I have since tried other Indian restaurants and I still enjoy coming back for the buffet and the ambience. Check it out! This was my go to place . Great good and great staff but they took the chili chicken off the lunch buffet which is highly disappointing.

After a 2 day old Indian food craving, we stopped in for the lunch buffet before heading to a matinee. We arrived just before noon and were informed the buffet opened at 12. Not in any huge rush, we each ordered a drink - me a black chai and my date a Kingfisher beer. The beer was, of course delicious, and served in a frosty glass - my chai, though, was not the masala chai I expected but instead a weak orange pekoe that I intended to send back. The buffet was indeed ready promptly at noon, so we left our seats to plate up. The buffet spread was quite impressive - a decent salad selection, soup, pakora, aloo gobi, lamb vindaloo, butter chicken, chili fish, butter chicken, and so much more! The buffet food was delicious - fresh, extremely flavourful, and hot. The aloo gobi, chilli fish, and tandoori chicken were exceptional (the chicken the best I've ever had!). Unfortunately, the service during this visit was very poor. I never did have a chance to send my tea back, my date could not enjoy another beer. Fortunately, our plates were cleared between our visits to the buffet line, but waters were left unfilled. I think with a few service errors addressed, this place could be exceptional. A real gem in the west end. First off a friendly greeting and prompt seating. Secondly amazing atmosphere. The buffet was a real treat numerous dishes such as classic butter chicken to numerous other curry and meat dishes. Everything was top notch and super tasty. The staff was very friendly. My tummy is grumbling, I need food and start mumbling, I pull up here for dinner, one look at the food and my eyes are fumbling. I want the garlic naan bread, and the butter chicken I said. Good experience here. Facilities are clean. The atmosphere is a bit elaborate stereotypically Indian. Found the service to be very good. We had a coupon for a 2 for 1 on the dinner buffet. I believe the dinner buffet is about $25/person. It isn't the best price, but it isn't bad. Lots of different dishes to choose from and what was put out was decent. Even dessert was good complete with a chocolate fountain to dip your fruit in. One criticism is this isn't close to the best Indian I've had in the city. Not at the level of a Guru. And always at a buffet getting my money's worth is the focus leading to overeating. Wow the decor is beautiful. They don't just throw up a few cultural decorations. All of the furniture and decorations must be imported. The lighting is dim and romantic. The buffet was fresh and the naan was constantly replenished. A great variety. With a variety of heat. Lots of spice and flavour. I only am giving them 4 out of 5 because the Sherwood Park location will make you the dishes spicier (hotter) upon request. The staff very friendly. They were quick to pick up plates so that we could use a new one each trip to the buffet. Also made sure our drinks were replenished. Ooh coconut naan, where have you been all my life???!! The hubby and I had driven by this place oodles of times, and I always wondered what it was like, because I'd heard good things, but just never got in there before now. When a girlfriend found out I hadn't been, we agreed to meet for lunch. She knows the staff, and said in her opinion, it was the best Indian in the city. She was right! I got there a little earlier than her, and took a seat in the waiting area, very comfy couches, and a giant Hindu statue draped in a flower garland, plus spicy colors, rich fabics, and gorgeous hammered metal lanterns. We decided on the buffet, and also ordered a pot of chai. Everything in the buffet was good- I had an interesting mix of daal, rice, pakora, butter chicken, korma, and a few other items- we were gabbing as we went through the line, so I forget! Everything I had was nice and hot, the spices were good, but not so mouth-blastingly hot I couldn't eat them, and completely delicious. Companion also ordered us a basket of coconut naan. I've had it plain and with a little butter, but the coconut was a revelation. One of my favorite new things, EVER. The chai needed a little sugar, but the flavors were good. And I did not get dessert, but she let me try her mango pudding, and we split some grapes. Our server was very attentive, and kept the chai refilled and our dirty plates retrieved. We had guests in from Calgary and this is one of the places that he loves to eat when he hits Edmonton. This is NOT my favourite location. I prefer the one on Fort Road. The interior of this place is amazing! The decorations make it feel like a palace when you walk in. The service at this location is the issue. It can really be hit and miss. It took them forever to take a drink order and then I don't think anyone was offered a refill - I know I wasn't. This is usually a buffet experience. The food is usually good. They didn't have any paneer on the menu this visit, which I was really looking forward to. They have a nice selection of hot dishes, a salad bar and a variety of traditional desserts. The mango pudding is always a favourite. The Naan bread is always fresh. New Asian Village has a wide variety of beer to choose from. Some really great Indian imports are available to try. I really, really, really like the Fort Road location and desperately want to like this one. Hopefully a future visit will be a better experience! read more

Attention customer; We care! Loved this place. Absolutely, amazing decor and attention to detail. If you do not appreciate all of the exotic items brought from India to make this restaurant what it is then you must be hard to please. All of the furniture, the Hindu god statues, the serving pots (in the shape of lucky elephants), and more. The bar is well thought out and under used, although I'm not sure what kind of crowd hangs out at a bar in an Indian restaurant it is an aesthetically pleasing accessory. The food is basically an everyday, lunch and dinner buffet....as well as a la carte menu items. I won't list everything, but i did sample about 90% of the items and was not disappointed. My gauge from on Indian restaurant to another is the Lamb Curry and was amazed at how it tasted .....from a buffet! But of course indian food tastes better as it marinates. Service was very personable, even before I realized that my companions knew the owners and manager. In such a nice and almost formally decorated establishment, I was welcomed in a homestyle fashion. I went through Yelp three times before deciding on trying this place and wow am I glad I did .. usually for dinner restaurant they don't have a buffet-style but here they do with more than 15 items to choose from you would never be able to go to that much on the menu and taste it all and everything was fabulous really enjoyed it two kinds of soup desserts as well as a chocolate fountain. This is our go-to restaurant for flavor. My husband and I are both vegetarians, and they offer a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan friendly foods with different flavors. If you order off the menu, they can adjust the amount of heat your prefer - which is great for my husband who likes his food really spicy. We normally get the buffet because there is a lot of selection for us and we can't limit ourselves to one dish. We always order the naan as well - it is not on the buffet. The dessert selection is not great, but the chocolate fountain makes up for it! They are always very attentive to us. They do watch us a lot, but I think that is just their way of making sure that they get to the table when we need something or are done with a plate. Once I drank a half a glass of wine before I noticed a huge finger print on the glass that wasn't mine. (I don't think it was dirty, just stained or something.) I told the waiter and they gave me a brand new glass of wine full to the brim. The price of the buffet is about $20-$25. I can't remember the exact price. We usually end up paying between $70-$80 for our meal because we order wine and beer as well. The decor gets you in the mood for Indian food and it is dimly lit with candles on the table, which we both enjoy. Tip: It is never that busy when we go, around 4 or 4:30, so there have not been a lot of hands on the buffet, which is something we always enjoy. But it seems that they attract a little higher class clients considering the price. I've never seen anyone sneezing or coughing in there which is rare at buffets. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner and was impressed. Atmosphere was very exotic yet inviting. I liked the exotic items they had on display, from pictures to serving pots and more. With a group of 8 hungry students, we all went for one thing: the buffet. This is where you can really pick and choose your own Indian cuisine experience. They have so many dishes to choose from that it's an overwhelming decision to decide what to pick. You can taste the different spices on their tandoori chicken, and their butter chicken was very tender. I enjoyed the subtle coconut tastes on their Vindaloo as well. The Nan bread is made fresh and you can just watch the chef make the bread from an open kitchen window. Their dessert buffet is like another meal in itself. The mango custard/pudding was sweet and flavorful, and their selection of fruit accompanied this well. Service was good, and the waitress brought out our drinks in a timely manner. I love the New Asian Village! Their renovations were very well done and the whole place now has a more upscale feel, but the food and pricing are still good! I am not much of a buffet guy... actually I usually run the other way when I see buffets, however this is one I frequent! Perhaps Indian food is more conducive to buffets? It is so good that I always have to waddle out after the buffet because I'm so full. I would like to see more spice in their butter chicken though. I love me some spicy butter chicken! Good for the Price (Buffet). This is one of the better Indian buffets, if your looking for authinitic and all that stuff, its not here and your not going to find it in Edmonton. This place is clean and more of a western style. All your typical things are there (Butter chicken, Naan, Saffron rice......), the buffet is split into half vegetarian and the other half is meat. Dessert is the typical Rice pudding, mango pudding and gulab Jamun, very sweet. Decent Salad bar with an assortment of spices available. All in all, this place is a great lunch buffet with co-workers or friends as it is fast and lets you choose from a variety of food. read more
