Haven't been here for a very long time. Wanted to get a nice view of the Ohio River and have some of the much talked about food at The Overlook Restaurant. There has been a small pub below the restaurant called " Walter's Pub" . It was not open when we arrived; but it was also a great view. There is even a large scenery binocular mounted on the deck. It was a nice sunny Thursday afternoon, so you could see the river so well. We went into the restaurant and were greeted by a display with what was hand made candy, cookies and cannoli , awesome touch. We were seated by the window giving us a constant view of the winding river. We were promptly seated and asked if we'd like any beer beverages: Crystal the waitress provided the specials of the day. We settled with the fried chicken plate and the cod plate. Drink list is fairly standard normal list ( Miller Lite, Bud Light , Coors) with a few exports "Modelo". Not many in the restaurant when arrived but customers started to increase. Food took awhile but we weren't in any hurry. The restaurant was fine up with nice easy to the eye decor. You really get the feeling of an establishment that's been here for a long time taking care of customers. Food arrived and it was a nice portion, considered is a tad higher price, you get nice sized portions. Crystal was very good and nice waitress and took care of us. A small detail but I really liked it was waitress/waitress's name was on a card in a small block of wood on the table- small but nice touch. Many people don't ask or hear their servers name so it's sweet. Chicken was nice plump breast's, nice coating and so moist as I took a bite. Very , very moist and tasty. My wife had the cod sandwich; came with nice sized 2 portioned fillets. French fries with both and not bad, crispy. I had coleslaw as a side; it was very tasty if I must say! The cod was really tasty and had a nice crust to it as well. We took to go box with 1 of each piece cod and chicken home. But I was intrigued by the cannoli; so one to go. Nice place; scenic and great people and food! Stop if you get the chance! Thank you Crystal!

The can't wait to sit outside on a warmer day to embrace the view and food.

Our party of 5 came on a beautiful Fall day with perfectly blue skies and colorful foliage. The place was slammed and were told the wait was 70-80 minutes. We hung out on the patio watching the boats go by until our pager went off to let us know the table was ready. We didn't have to wait as long as we were told it would be. Luke and Lonnie were our servers. I ordered lemon pepper baked cod, extra crispy fries and Cole Slaw. My wife ordered chicken pot pie with green beans. Our friends ordered meatloaf and fried cod with sweet potato fries and onion rings. Everyone enjoyed their food and the service was wonderful.

The view was great. Great lunch with my hubby, the mashed potato's weren't great but our server was good and the chicken cordon bleu was really good.

The view was STUNNING and the food was very good. Except for those green beans which had almost no flavor whatsoever. The waitress seem to be very defensive. Like every time you asked for something, she felt the need to give an explanation on why that hadn't already happened or that it was gonna take a while. Not pleasant.

Late 70's/80's with Hoosier Hospitality This was a good stop for dinner. I feel like for a local place where there are so few options it was very pricey. Expect to spend about $50 or so for 2 people. We had the beef manhattan and the country fried steak. The beef manatees huge and excellent. The country fried steak was a bit chewy than what I expected. The view here is fabulous. You can see out to the Ohio River from just about anywhere in the restaurant. Ours waitress was great. Very prompt and attentive. I probably would have gone 4 stars if the price was a bit better.

We visited on a Sunday and they were very busy when we arrived. We were quoted a 40-50 min wait time for 6 people and we were seated within about 20 mins. Our server came over promptly and took our drink order. When she came back to take our order she informed us they were out of burgers which was my first choice so I ordered the Ruben. A few mins later she came back and informed they were out of Ruben's as well. So I opted for the fried chicken sandwich and it was good but nothing special about it and it lacked flavor. Definitely could have used some seasoning. I also had some of the fried pickle spears appetizer and they were the best I've ever had. Overall quick service despite being busy however I wish they wouldn't have been out of several items. The view is absolutely beautiful and perfect back drop for pics before or after your meal. They also have a wine tasting area downstairs that's accessible from outside. However we didn't visit this area.

On a family trip years ago we were unable to eat here due to the popularity and the line was into the parking lot!! Fast forward almost 20 years and I was in the area on business and was able to stop for lunch. Still busy, but i did not have a wait to be seated. A wonderful view of the river is afforded from the tiered dining room, I love to go back when it is warm because the deck looked awesome. I opted for the chicken pot pie since it was a snowy cold day and I thought it would warm me up. I was right, it was steaming hot, but when it cooled enough to eat, it was fantastic. A light flaky crust and generously filled with chicken and vegetables, it was just what I needed. I hope it doesn't take years before I can return

You bettah bring your appetite!! This is a gorgeous location overlooking the great Ohio river. The views are breathtaking and there is something on the menu for everyone. Servings are LARGE and the service is just great. Emily was our server and she was right on it with everything she did. Drinks never went empty and she paid attention to everyone's needs around us. I had a fried tenderloin sandwich and fries. The only thing that was missing were two more buns and a couple of other people to help me to eat it. The breading was unlike anything I've ever had. The hubby had the fried cod, green beans and coleslaw. We will be having leftovers.

The view here is beautiful!! I had the ribs and they were great. Their homemade bbq sauces is very tasty. The waitress was quick and friendly. This place is a must do during the fall season.

There are lots of items on display almost like a small museum. Don't forget the gift shop. I was thrilled. Obviously popular, the clientele was experienced, but diverse. While I did not hear German discussion, I might have. Next to the restaurant is a building that is their catering. It was as big as the restaurant. Walking in, the sign said to seat yourself. Sometimes that means a delay in a server finding you. Nay, nay. She was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. She was great. Because I scanned the menu ahead of time, I knew that I wanted the trio of wursts. They were among the best I've had. My server talked me into the potato salad. It was great. Along with the wursts, I ordered a salad and completely enjoyed their house made blue cheese dressing. The beer menu had Spaten Special. Spaten is a rare treat for and this is the first time I have even enjoyed it on tap. When I was leaving, I was able to buy a six pack of harder to find German beers. My adult son loves German beer and did not even recognize one I brought that he loved. Restraining myself, I made only modest purchases in the gift shop. This will not be true next visit. As far as the museum aspect, there are many displays. Down one wall are many car models, train models, liquor decanters and numerous other German items. I sneaked into a closed dining room with great displays of stein and wine history. A few times a year, I head from TN to IN. I will make this a two day stop. Oh, did I mention there is a hotel right next door to keep my safe from driving after enjoying a few great beers on tap?

Atmosphere is fun, it really embraces the German decor (saw a review or too calling it kitschy, in a good way, which I think is a fair description). Service is friendly and attentive (and in the costumed German garb to keep with the themes). Lots of classic German dishes (several schnitzel varieties, brats, spatzel, etc.). I won't say anything I've had over the years blows me away, but haven't had a bad choice either. The Wiener schnitzel I had most recently was tender and tasty, with a perfectly fried batter, and the German fries were nicely crisped on the exterior and beautifully seasoned. Good beer selection (including some brewed for the restaurant), reasonable wine list...love that you can go all out and have your beer in the classic giant boot! Small gift shop as well, some souvenir items as well as some candies and food options.

Having grown up in PA, I'm very familiar with "Pennsylvania Dutch" or Amish and Mennonite cooking. I would characterize this style of cooking as hearty, simple, and high-calorie comfort food. The buffet included three main sections. The first included two soups (chicken noodle and vegetable), salad bar items, prepared salads (such as coleslaws and broccoli salad), and some gelatin molds. The second station was hot items (meats, gravies, vegetables). Finally, there was a dessert station with an assortment of cobblers, cookies, cupcakes, soft serve ice cream, and more. I noticed other patrons with homemade white bread but I somehow missed it on the buffet. Overall, there was a good selection of items available. I most enjoyed the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, and berry and peach cobblers. The biggest misses were the chicken noodle soup (which didn't seem to contain any chicken pieces, was only lukewarm, and very over-salted) and the chocolate ice cream, which was runny. My husband and I found the food to be generally bland. (Granted, Amish food isn't known to have a spicy profile). In addition, they didn't offer some foods and desserts that I generally associate with Amish cooking -- pickled eggs, Harvard beets, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon apples. shoo fly pie, apple dumplings, fry pies, Whoopie pies, etc. (Admittedly, the traditional Amish foods in the Midwest may differ from those in Pennsylvania). The restaurant had a lot of seating and was clean, and had a cute gift shop that you passed through on the way in and out. Our server was sufficiently attentive. Parking was free and plentiful. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet was $16.99 per person; drinks not included.
