Delicious food served with a heaping serving of amazing views. We were greeted like family and immediately seated at a table where we watched a barge traveling down the Ohio river. There were six of us and we ordered five different items - 2 opted for the country fried chicken. Every meal was full of home cooked flavors and cooked to perfection. I had the daily special of soup and salad. The salad was fresh full of crisp lettuce, bacon, cheese, vegetables and toasty croutons. The bean soup was perfect and came with a large slice of fluffy sweet cornbread. My husband said the gravy was the best he has had in recent memory and paired with the chicken and mashed potatoes, he would definitely come back for. The bbq ribs fell off the bone and my brother in law loved them. The coconut cream pie had mile high meringue and was light and coconutty with a flaky crust. Haven't been here for a very long time. Wanted to get a nice view of the Ohio River and have some of the much talked about food at The Overlook Restaurant. There has been a small pub below the restaurant called " Walter's Pub" . It was not open when we arrived; but it was also a great view. There is even a large scenery binocular mounted on the deck. It was a nice sunny Thursday afternoon, so you could see the river so well. We went into the restaurant and were greeted by a display with what was hand made candy, cookies and cannoli , awesome touch. We were seated by the window giving us a constant view of the winding river. We were promptly seated and asked if we'd like any beer beverages: Crystal the waitress provided the specials of the day. We settled with the fried chicken plate and the cod plate. Drink list is fairly standard normal list ( Miller Lite, Bud Light , Coors) with a few exports "Modelo". Not many in the restaurant when arrived but customers started to increase. Food took awhile but we weren't in any hurry. The restaurant was fine up with nice easy to the eye decor. You really get the feeling of an establishment that's been here for a long time taking care of customers. Food arrived and it was a nice portion, considered is a tad higher price, you get nice sized portions. Crystal was very good and nice waitress and took care of us. A small detail but I really liked it was waitress/waitress's name was on a card in a small block of wood on the table- small but nice touch. Many people don't ask or hear their servers name so it's sweet. Chicken was nice plump breast's, nice coating and so moist as I took a bite. Very , very moist and tasty. My wife had the cod sandwich; came with nice sized 2 portioned fillets. French fries with both and not bad, crispy. I had coleslaw as a side; it was very tasty if I must say! The cod was really tasty and had a nice crust to it as well. We took to go box with 1 of each piece cod and chicken home. But I was intrigued by the cannoli; so one to go. Our party of 5 came on a beautiful Fall day with perfectly blue skies and colorful foliage. The place was slammed and were told the wait was 70-80 minutes. We hung out on the patio watching the boats go by until our pager went off to let us know the table was ready. We didn't have to wait as long as we were told it would be. Luke and Lonnie were our servers. I ordered lemon pepper baked cod, extra crispy fries and Cole Slaw. My wife ordered chicken pot pie with green beans. Late 70's/80's with Hoosier Hospitality This was a good stop for dinner. I feel like for a local place where there are so few options it was very pricey. Expect to spend about $50 or so for 2 people. We had the beef manhattan and the country fried steak. The beef manatees huge and excellent. The country fried steak was a bit chewy than what I expected. The view here is fabulous. You can see out to the Ohio River from just about anywhere in the restaurant. Ours waitress was great. Very prompt and attentive. We visited on a Sunday and they were very busy when we arrived. We were quoted a 40-50 min wait time for 6 people and we were seated within about 20 mins. Our server came over promptly and took our drink order. When she came back to take our order she informed us they were out of burgers which was my first choice so I ordered the Ruben. A few mins later she came back and informed they were out of Ruben's as well. So I opted for the fried chicken sandwich and it was good but nothing special about it and it lacked flavor. Definitely could have used some seasoning. I also had some of the fried pickle spears appetizer and they were the best I've ever had. Overall quick service despite being busy however I wish they wouldn't have been out of several items. The view is absolutely beautiful and perfect back drop for pics before or after your meal. On a family trip years ago we were unable to eat here due to the popularity and the line was into the parking lot!! Fast forward almost 20 years and I was in the area on business and was able to stop for lunch. Still busy, but i did not have a wait to be seated. A wonderful view of the river is afforded from the tiered dining room, I love to go back when it is warm because the deck looked awesome. I opted for the chicken pot pie since it was a snowy cold day and I thought it would warm me up. I was right, it was steaming hot, but when it cooled enough to eat, it was fantastic. Hadn't been there in a while, as it came under new management. But when we went Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised. It looks the same, but something was different. It was very clean, and nicer decor. As it used to be, everyone was so friendly and helpful. We were seated by a window so we could see the Ohio river bend and watch the barges plying along. I ordered the meatloaf, the waitress recommended it. My son ordered a hot brown. The servings were large and the food was absolutely delicious! My son's only complaint was he would have liked one more tomato slice. I had absolutely no complaints at all. As a matter of fact, I took home half my order,it was so large. The meat was flavored just right, the mashed potatoes were real potatoes and they came with cream gravy on the side. Green beans weren't overcooked. It was perfect. I greedily took home a piece of cake. Hazelnut with chocolate icing. And it was presented beautifully. My son seemed like he wished he had done the same, so I ordered another one for him. Went here for a family reunion of 20 people. Emily our waitress was super friendly and accommodating to everyone's needs. We had a group from 10 month old to a 91 year old. Beef manhattan, pork tenderloin sandwich and steak were all so good, cooked to order. Everyone also loved the coconut cream pie. And don't forget the view....... It just can't be beat. Servings are LARGE and the service is just great. Emily was our server and she was right on it with everything she did. Drinks never went empty and she paid attention to everyone's needs around us. This restaurant is a great break when traveling the 64 corridor. It's just 3-4 miles off the interstate, but the view is so beautiful that it's a major refresher. Not only that, the good and service were well done. We had fried chicken livers, mashed potatoes, catfish and fries. Then we shared a very good pecan pie by Keens. I wish I had asked more questions though. As it turns out, the restaurant has been around for years, but about a year ago, the patty chef bought out the original owners to keep things on par. So I would have bought a house dessert rather than a very good "product". We stopped back in on our return trip for coffee and pie. It was a great break and it will be an ongoing part of our travel through this area. Very handicap friendly, with numerous handicap parking spaces, good ramp and seating inside for patrons who are waiting. Handmade candies and baked items for sale in the lobby. read more

Taste was okay but not great. It was $18.95 with 2 sides. My sides were green beans which were clearly from a can and parmesan potato wedges. The potato wedges were good but needed a dip. My husband had a club sandwich and fries. He said it was okay. Outside dining wasn't opening till 3pm so we ate inside. The menu is standard Americana with a heavy emphasis on Fried Chicken and the accoutrements thereof. The Spinach Artichoke Dip was decent. The chips were stale, sadly. I remember driving my grandparents here for an afternoon meal and to see the sunset over 30 years ago. I went back for nostalgia sake on Memorial weekend not expecting much - but I was pleasantly surprised. The building is the same - but the food was better than I remembered. The service was friendly and we the outside area was a great place for our short wait for a table. I look forward to the wine bar in the lower level opening. One in our party had the pork tenderloin and two people had the pasta with shrimp and scallops - it was delicious! I had a salad that was pretty good too. The Overlook Restaurant is unbelievable! The Leavenworth, IN restaurant is by far the best restaurant off I-64 west of Louisville, KY. The natural view of the Ohio River from the bluff of OxBow Bend is historic and as nice as it gets as every table has a great view of the river. The food is amazing fresh food. The various versions of chicken are hard to choose which version you want. The fried chicken plates and sandwiches are the favorites but my wife chose the chicken pot pie for our most recent visit. It's a huge pie and comes out with crispy crust and amazing chicken and vegetable filling. I chose the Twenty Mile Hot Brown Sandwich which is smothered with pulled chunks of Turkey in creamy white sauce and topped with tomato slices and strips of bacon. I will definitely be ordering this dish again. We finished our meal with two of the many amazing pies that the restaurant specializes in - choosing the Coconut Cream Pie and Death by Chocolate Cake. Unbelievable desserts that are worth the trip by themselves. Take a couple on your trip home or choose chocolate truffles or other desserts that are locally made and kept in the chilled display cases by the front door. The service was prompt and very friendly, even during the busy Sunday Dinner period. We loved this place on our first visit down the scenic river highway, and now plan our trip around visiting this restaurant whenever we visit our daughter in Ohio. read more

I suggested that they go for a drink but not to have dinner there and relayed my situation. I ate there in November of last year The wait staff were great but I got a bad case of food poisoning. We are STILL in the middle of a global pandemic that has killed MILLIONS world wide. There was no attempt to respect human life at this establishment. Staff and customers were not wearing masks. Not only that, but they had no respect for personal space or proper cleaning between customers. The waitress was friendly but made no attempt to respect our space. Her disgusting cigarette breath made me sick to my stomach the multiple times she leaned over me as if I was her child to refill drink across the table instead of going around. She was breathing right down on me no matter how much I made it clear she should not. The cigarette breath made it impossible to eat as I was sick for the entire meal from the first time she did it. While listening to our waitress and two bus boys complain about children, while seated with our five children, who overheard them and one almost started crying, we observed a lack of concern for proper cleaning of tables. Besides the fact that no germs were actually being removed, I wouldn't recommend using the chemical laden salt and pepper shakers ever again. I'm sure the food was great. I did observe my catfish was cooked to the perfect mouth cutting crispness. No toppings offered for the kids cheeseburger. We asked for a TWO mushroom appetizers and were only brought one... for our table of 7. At first I thought they must be tiny and were thrown both into one basket but the bill came and NOPE. She just hadn't cared to listen. That was a theme. Food was DEFINITELY overpriced, except the kids meals. Despite this being a childhood love, we won't be back. We went here on a Saturday. Be advised, they close at 7pm. The food was good old low country classics, such as chicken fried steak, meatloaf, hot brown, and fried pickles. The ambiance is excellent especially with a large bend of the Ohio River as a backdrop. Entrees will run you 15ish bucks and there's not a big drink/wine list. From Louisville you can travel the scenic route through Kentucky or take I64 west through Indiana. Friends have told us we must check it out. One winter Sunday afternoon we traveled the Indiana route to experience all the rave. It was well worth the trip. The view is far more than I expected! The restaurant has a home feeling. The staff was so friendly. There was a good crowd but we didn't have to wait too long. The dining area is split at angels to offer more views from huge windows of to Ohio river basin Our server was prompt and friendly, The menu is extensive, with daily specials. It was the weekend of St. Patrick's day so I chose the corn beef dinner which reminded me of the great food Mom always made. My friend chose the Meat loaf dinner which she enjoyed. In addition to the indoor view you have to check out the lower level patio observation deck with pay viewers for a closer look of river activities, there is a lower level patio bar which looked like a fun night out but the bar wasn't open on Sunday's. Highly recommend the experience. Nice destination for a afternoon drive to get away from the city. Plenty of parking. Easy interstate access, 2 miles from I64.
