Really friendly staff, great location. Visited here after popping into the whole foods and enjoyed the flavor options. They have some unique flavors (vanilla bourbon is a favorite of mine), but I have noticed that the special flavors to be a bit excessively sweet (I tried tiramisu this time which was a bit too much for me this time). Prices are a little high ($6+) but that's kind of par for specialty ice cream stands these days, so it's not something to dock points for. I have noticed on my past two visits that the tables need to be wiped down a little more frequently inside. Not hugely messy, but noticable. I heard a lot of good things about New City Microcreamery as it opened up in Sudbury and was excited to try it. My sister has gone a couple of times and enjoyed the flavors. I went on a weekday half an hour before the store closed and there were still a few customers coming in and out. I had the cookies and creams, mint chocolate chip, and vanilla. I really wanted to try strawberry (my favorite) but they were unfortunately out. Price wise, it is a bit on the higher side. However, it is reasonable given the quality was great. The staff member was very friendly and patient! She offered samples when I asked for the mint chocolate chip since their flavor is very different compared to other places. It was very thoughtful of her to let me know that. Overall, great experience. I will have to come back to try the strawberry flavor. read more

My brother and I visited New City Microcreamery tonight for a quick end-of-the-week treat. We ended up waiting in line for about an hour (there were maybe 6 small groups (2-4 people each) in front of us. I would guess that the store probably wasn't expecting that much business on a Friday night in January because there was only one girl working behind the counter trying to fill both in-store and online/delivery orders. My heart goes out to her - it's so stressful trying to manage a growing line and big incoming delivery orders all alone. While there was way too much work for one person to reasonably manage alone, the girl behind the counter was super sweet and delivered great customer service despite the line. The ice cream was nice (my brother love love loves the mint chip) and I'm always excited to find a spot with multiple vegan options (I had vegan peppermint stick). My brother also got whipped cream on his which he really enjoyed. Parking was a breeze, the store was relatively clean, the signage is nice (I love classic chalkboard signs), and the music was upbeat and fun. I'm leaving a 3-star review because we didn't expect to wait an hour when we first got into the line. This is in no way the fault of the single employee behind the counter (she was doing her best). Maybe they couldn't get anyone else to work on a Friday night or maybe someone called off sick, but the store could definitely use another person behind the counter (perhaps one on in-store orders and one on delivery). The employee working tonight deserves 5-stars for having to manage the place alone (I hope everyone who visited tonight understood that the wait was not her fault and left her big tips for handling a stressful situation with such grace). read more

The portions are very small. I got one scoop and when it came i thought i had accidentally ordered one spoonful it was so small. There were ice crystals in the ice cream, which made it taste like it had been in the freezer for too long. There's also a weird smell in the store that was kind of like some kind of a waffle cone burning. Not only that, but the prices are almost twice the price of other ice cream shops, and even more when you consider how small the scoops are. Tried this place for the first time yesterday and I really enjoyed it. The inside and outside are well designed to be bright, clean, and spacious. The staff was friendly, and the ice cream was delicious. I had a cake batter milkshake and ordered the strawberry milkshake for my husband. I love that they let you choose your milk (whole, skim, almond, etc.). I'll definitely be back. This place isn't cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. I agree with another reviewer's comment, if you're going to have uniquely named ice cream flavors please give a description. I just love this place -- the Sudbury store and the Hudson store. My daughter and I were there in Hudson for their very first day and went to that store every day for a year -- like it was a religion. Over the years, we have frequented the Hudson store, and now the Sudbury store, and, of course, Rail Trail Flatbread Company, too. The quality of the food is beyond compare. Had high hopes for this new ice cream shop in Sudbury. The ice cream was OK (we both thought it was a bit icy as almost like it was freezer burned) and the portions were small. Also, the line moves very slowly because they have uniquely named flavors without a menu to translate what the names mean. So every single person needed ask what each flavor meant. Ice cream is very tasty, but they up-charge for EVERYTHING (and portions are already pretty small). For example - my kids ordered ice creams in waffle cones ($2 each waffle cone), my son ordered a milk shake ($9 for a small), and they asked if he wanted a little whipped cream on the top (another $1), and I was up charged $1 for a basic sugar cone (waffle cones I get, but I have never in my life had to pay for a standard cone). I'm a huge fan of their Hudson location so I was waiting ever so impatiently for this location to open and when I saw the news I had to make a special trip to Sudbury to try it! The location is good, plenty of parking and in a plaza that has several other businesses. It was packed when my ice cream loving dining partner and I arrived around 5 on opening day but they had plenty of employees and the line went very fast. I believe the menu is the same as the other locations - I didn't notice anything highlighted as specific to this location. They had the usual assortment of fun and eclectic flavors. We went with a scoop of chocolate croissant and a scoop of creamsicle. Both flavors were very nice (even paired well together). I loved the chunks of croissant in the chocolate ice cream. And the creamsicle really did taste like creamsicle bar from childhood. Definitely must stop if you like great ice cream - we'll be back for sure! read more

My wife and I love ice cream. We were in Sudbury yesterday dropping off some equipment at a friend's house when we decided to get some ice cream. New City Microcreamery was close by, so we thought that we would give it a try. My wife had the vanilla chocolate chip in a small size in a cup. I had a waffle cone with chocolate and strawberry ice cream. We were both disappointed. First, we were surprised that the ice cream seemed to lack butterfat content, tasting more like an iced milk than premium ice cream. Haagen Daz from the supermarket had better feel and depth. The vanilla chip contained chocolate shavings rather than chocolate chunks, which was disappointing. My strawberry ice cream lacked strawberry chunks and the chocolate ice cream was just okay. The waffle cone was awful - very thick and hard to eat. I actually threw away the last part of the cone. Even worse, we spent almost $20. With so many good options in the Boston region, we do not understand what this shot is doing. We have a Rancontore's in town and Bedford Farms a few miles away. We also frequent Brickley's in RI. Each of these shops have much better ice cream. read more
