Breaded haddock is usually nothing I go bragging about, but this place had the best I've ever had

Decided to try Finnegan's Pub food now that the ownership changed. I love our local places but three items were.. Trash. Really wanted to be happy. Including pictures. * Ordered loaded onion rings - 5 jalapenos on top with a few bacon bits? * Ordered kids fish and chips for son - came out as chicken fingers. * Coleslaw that came with the "fish and chips" was rancid. Wife luckily took a bite and spit it out before my son did. I took a whiff of it. Beyond spoiled. I dont mind food tasting different for everyone, that's the fun of trying. But I draw the line at serving rotten food. Drinks are pretty good though! *Update I'll try again in a year. And no, didn't talk to the manager, this was takeout I ordered for the family. This was our first visit. It's a small pub in Hudson. There're seat-yourself benches, high-top tables, a bar, & 2 coin-op pool tables. The atmosphere is nice and clean, comparable to your average pub. It's a little echoey, but that's typical of this type of setting. Our total (pre-tax, pre-tip) bill was $44.50. This was fair for our order of: * Hendrick's & tonic * Margarita (watermelon) * Nachos w/ grilled chicken * Finn's burger Adult Beverages: The Gin & Tonic wasn't too bad. The watermelon margarita was a bit strong and tart. Food: I felt the nachos were your average, pub-style nachos. Not too bad, but nothing great. I'd order them again if I were in the area and needed a quick snack. Jennie thought they were lackluster altogether and would not. We both felt the burger was OK, at best. The bun and toppings (LTPO) were all good. The meat was quite reminiscent of a lower-quality, frozen, store-bought patty. It was juicy, but there wasn't any flavor to it. The side of onion rings that came with the burger were quite delicious... the best part of the meal. They were thick cut in a tasty, thinner batter. Service: Our server was also the bartender. She was friendly and attentive. She also took our order, including the changes, from memory. This always impresses me. Overall, it's a decent little local place to stop in for a quick bite, a drink, and maybe shoot some pool, but we won't drive the hour again to make a special trip there. End of an era, start of a new - as we had been told by friends of the old owner. I was hoping it wouldn't be so, but 'tis. Until I realized WHO the new owners are, and I was THRILLED... (shhhh I am not spilling the beanbag just yet) but the kitchen was waltzing in a clumsy dance on this friends reunion at our local dive bar. We are hopeful (but not on this visit). I really hate to give ugly reviews, particularly when I'm not sure what the changes are and who is who in the zoo. AND I hate it when other yelpers are "right" ISH about places that I love (aka hate it)! This place has been the town "dive bar" for a long time. With a hit and miss kitchen that had been on a hit streak for a while after recovering from the Covid pressure everyone was under. End of an era, and begining of a new one, with promise. But this visit was definitely not their day. Staff wasn't happy with the kitchen either. Just a rough day (AND ALL I WANTED WAS MY LOBSTERZILLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Where do we start? 1. Don't kill the wings. Up until our last visit - bar none the best wings in town. PLEASE don't mess with their wings! We would take the kids there just for wings! 2. The lobsterzilla - used to be the best value and best made anywhere. Gone are the chunky claws, knuckles and meat, delicately dressed in disfavor of overly mayo'd, chopped up mess. It wasn't pretty and lobster-y. Just tons of mayo (and I LOVE MAYO), and not a lot of lobster meat compared to the visions of the past. Did I say that all I wanted was my lobsterzilla... It was not good. :-( It was hard not to send the food back, even though I wanted to, because I had talked this place up, and because I saw who the new owners were, I was actually "afraid" to send back and complain. Left with a yelp review I didn't want my friends to write... UG. 3. Onion rings? Cold and not the crispy and fluffy deliciousness of the past. Don't know what happened, but they were not good and they were cold. I ate them because I didn't want to send food back. 4. Cold fried clams, smaller portion and questionable coleslaw (SALTY) 5. Lovely service as usual, however, something was missing... not as usual as usual. The familiar and wonderful faces keeping tabs on the bar bring the hopeful air of a new "dive bar" restyled (ok, so being a dive bar, I never ordered a drink there, because their booze selection was always lacking, BUT the hubs and my older boys like beer and Irish pubs! So if the winds are changing, there is hope for a dive with "class" bar! LOL!). For now... the food needs to recover because today wasn't their day. It's a place we have loved. Change can be good - but if it wasn't broke don't fix it. Some things were fantastic as they were. New and change is good, but sometimes nostalgia is better, particularly when its the "official town dive bar". But we will all root for the new and great food! And off we went for ice cream which made up for a sad dinner (and dang it all I wanted was my lobsterzilla). New City deliciousness anyone? GOD I LOVE THIS TOWN even if the food wasn't stellar. Hey I ate it! We LOVE all our locals. I hope this is a blip on the road to something really great! Sorry folks. A basic American sports bar and another Irish wannabe! Wannabe because there's absolutely nothing Irish about this place if you're from across the pond, or at least traveled outside the US. A bars name, serving Guinness or a having some signage doesn't make anywhere Irish. They only serve one draft (Guinness) beer, with only bottled domestic beer (Bud, Sam's etc) and liquor available, which was disappointing. The menu is very limited with basic bar food (wings, burger etc) options, none of their seafood items are priced and the Shepherds Pie had been removed. Essentially, nothing was Irish or British and the food was fair at best. FYI: Shepherds look after sheep not cows, so 'Shepherds Pie' is made with Lamb and 'Cottage Pie' made with Beef. The entire country, every person and every US restaurant that offers it gets this detail wrong! read more

Good bar over all of the rest I would say it's more high class. But be weary about smoking near there if you do okay,don't smoke near the front entrance because I did and I got banned. So just try to be cautious they don't like weed there either so don't bring your weed to this bar if you don't drink. Ummm and if you feel the urge to break the rules they're very stern about them. They will make sure the establishment is respected. But other than that I think the bar tenders are wonderful and kind the cooks do a great job making the food!! The big guy at the door was always nice to me. Soda was good. Pool tables are good too and it's a great place to socialize but if yo ur e not from Hudson be polite and don't get too wild. I think it's a great place to sort of like wind down after a long days work!! And a great place to bring the kids and family to eat at!! My last reviews were based off how I felt then but how I feel now I feel like I should say with out anger and frustration. I hope millions go here before 2025 and have their pork sandwich. The new owners have destroyed this place. The food is awful now. Shame on them. The wings were dry and the seafood is terrible now. All the value is gone from this classics dive bar. It's a now a drive bye bye bar and go somewhere else bar. read more

4.5 rating - Really loved this place. Very down to earth, family friendly atmosphere with televisions and 2 pool tables. Our server was terrific and took care of us. The food was served hot and made accurately based on our orders. Took a little longer then expected, but was well worth the wait. We noticed a lot of folks having wings, so we ordered some. They were great. Juicy and spicy and served with blue cheese, like they should be. My daughter had the pork loin sandwich, the Hawkeye, and she loved it! I had the Shepherds Pie, which was plain and the potatoes on top were chunky, but it was good. We will absolutely come back if in the area! read more

Lobster roll meals are wonderful. That's all I've ever ordered! I've never had a better lobster roll, and I've been to a lot of places all over Maine and Cape Ann and Cape Cod. Tried this place on recommendation from a friend. We went for the lobster roll. Not much ambience; it was a Friday early evening. The waitress was very nice, but she was alone as both bartender and waitress, and the place was getting busy. It took a while for her to take our order. We did notice she was doing a lot of socializing on this fairly busy evening. We placed or our orders: 1 lobster roll, 1 Shepard pie. After 45 minutes we were served. The shepherd pie was barely palatable; the lobster roll was ok, but not great. The price, 17.75 was about the only good thing about this lobster roll. So, will we be back? No. Would we recommend this? Again no. Too bad I had high hopes.... read more

I ordered from Finnegan's for the first time online and went to pick it up and was told my order did not go thru. Pissed off I left and called to back to give my confirmation number and was told food was waiting for me. Spoke with owner Matt who apologized and than personally delivered my food to my doorstep.. Turns out I was the moron who walked into another establishment down the road thinking it was Finnegan's looking for my order. Matt went above and beyond in this situation with customer service and I could not have been more impressed.. And the food is tremendous! read more

Went here many moons ago and wasn't overly impressed; went here again recently and got the same feeling. Stopped in during a Pats game and the bar was full, with a half dozen tables also full. We sat at a high top and waited over five minutes for service, at which point we weren't sure if you had to order at the bar or if there was table service. We only saw one server who was also the bartender, so clearly he was working as fast as he could but it wasn't adequate to meet the demands of everyone. Strike one. I went up to the bar and asked what light beers were on draught...*gasp* "only Guinness." Ok so it's an Irish bar but ONE beer on draught? Strike two. We got bottled beer and again waited for someone to take our food order...that never happened, and we left. Disappointing to say the least. We had a really bad experience! We ordered chicken wings and an hour later no wings. We asked the waitress about our wings and she gave them to another party. Another order was put in and we waited and waited and no wings. Finally I said can we just get the bill and skip the rings. The waitress had an attitude and was so rude. The restaurant was not crowded at all so it makes no sense that an order of chicken would take so long. We're never going back and I would say stay away!!!! read more

Pretty underwhelming bar with blah service and servers. We drove for a while looking for darts- which they had...but had four tables in the way of them. The waitress couldn't have had any less of a personality and was ridiculously slow. But whatever. We went there for darts and Wings. We got half of that-and I must say I was actually impressed with the wings. Who knew that maple flavored wings could be so amazing?? They had quite a few flavors to choose from, they were super meaty and large. The wings really saved this review, but I can't see myself going back there again. At least not anytime soon read more

Actual rating: 3.5, rounded up to 4 Came here on a Thursday night for drinks with coworkers. There is a food menu, but no drink menu. You can ask for what's available or your server can recommend something similar to what you're used to. Not a big deal for me since I only drink cider and they had what I'm used to - Downeast, Angry Orchard, Woodchuck We ordered 3 apps - nachos with chili on the side, fries (so crispy!), and potato skins without bacon. Very vegetarian friendly. Portions were huge. Chili for the nachos was on the saltier side, but everything else was pretty good for bar food. Our servers were really nice and consistently checked up on us! We ended up paying $55 (tip included) for 5 people. Each person ordered a drink and we ordered 3 apps to share. Pretty good for $11 a person! Apparently on Thursday nights they have pool tournaments, so we had to finish the game by 7pm. Pool tables and darts are definitely a plus. read more

Pros: It's cheap Cons: If you aren't a regular, don't expect to be served. Came here for the first time on a Saturday evening a few months ago. It was busy but not packed - about the time when the dinner crowd was turning over but the night crowd hadn't started arriving yet - and I grabbed a seat at the bar right away between two couples. It was obvious that most of the people in the place were regulars and they were all gabbing and laughing and having a grand ol' time, so I was looking forward to enjoying myself. I ordered a Guiness and a burger. Then I waited... After 45 minutes, a couple of beers, and some chatter with my neighbors, I asked the bartender to check on the burger. Rather than actually check, she told me very matter-of-fact "it's been put in, we have a small kitchen so it takes a little while for food to come out." Are you telling me you regularly run 45+ min ticket times? Absurd. The bar basically faces the entrance to the kitchen, and I hadn't seen any food come out since right after I sat down (the couple next to me got there meals right as I sat down, and like I said, I got there as the dinner crowd was mostly finishing and leaving...). 20 minutes later, I had watched the entire second half of the Duke/UNC game, the Bruins game that started at 7:30 was entering the 2nd period....and my burger FINALLY came out. It was ice cold and the bun was hard as a rock. It was clearly waiting for pickup for god knows how long. Then I had to ask the bartender 3 times for BBQ sauce. But I had time to kill since my wife was at an event and meeting me out around 9:30ish. So I could look past the hour long wait for a cold burger - after all I was still enjoying myself. Well, it was getting to about 9:30, by this point I had had 4 beers and a shot of whiskey (much earlier) in the 2.5 hours I was there, and in fact I was just finishing a big glass of water. I was texting with my wife to see if she was still going to meet me out, she said she was, so I went to order another beer and a shot and THEY CUT ME OFF! "Are you driving? How about another glass of water?" Excuse me?? I was BARELY tipsy at this point! More tired than anything else. Mind you they were pouring shots for all the rowdy regulars like it was going out of style. The guy next to me was on his 5th bourbon on the rocks poured from a special bottle they kept just for him behind the bar. I couldn't believe it. Was I not spending enough money? Would have stayed at least another hour and doubled my tab once my wife got there... So I quickly settled up and got a snarky "drive safe" as I put on my coat. Yeah, screw you too. I met my wife at Less Than Greater Than where they have great food, great beer, great drinks, and great service. WOW! What a lovely surprise. My husband and I were just out driving around our old home town of Hudson, MA and thought we'd grab a bite. Finnegans didn't look as busy as some of the eateries on Main Street so we thought cautiously we'd give it a try, knowing all the while that if its not busy it's usually a good sign to stay away. We walked into a warm and casual dining room that offered a bar in the main room with locals casually chatting over a few drinks. The bar clientele were not disruptive to our dining experience whatsoever. The service was fast and friendly and the menu had a nice varied menu of good old American food. Burgers, Fries, Fish, Chicken and Beef. I ordered the sirloin tips and my husband ordered the Fish and Chips. In what was a comfortable amount of time our food came to the table piping hot and absolutely delicious. The haddock was light, flaky and obviously fresh covered with a light breading that was perfectly season. The fries were hot and perfectly deep fried. My sirloin tips were exceptional, perfectly charred on the outside and a beef eaters delightful rare to medium rare inside. Marinated perfectly not overstated but just enough to enhance the delicious and tender tips. Not served with gravy or a mushy sauce of peppers and onions or whatever just perfectly cooked beef tips. I think they surely gave the nearby Wildwood Steakhouse a run for the money. My mashed potatoes were piping hot, lightly seasoned and tasted like home made with a home made texture and a few lumps. The veggies were fresh, perfectly cooked al dente' and I smiled as the chef Tom, peeked out the door to give and get a grateful thumbs up. A very pleasant evening out in a pub that certainly does not get enough raves about its fast and friendly service, and truly great food. The bartender greeted me with, "What the f*ck do want?" One of the owners or managers told my friend, "You're in my f*cking seat." while he was waiting to be served. The bartender didn't announce last call, she simply threw her hands in the air and yelled, "I'm f*cking done, no more beer." To top it off, the manager openly threatened to charge all open tabs an extra 40% if they weren't closed before 1:30am. That's when we left. All in all, this place is abhorrent. Don't expect to be treated nicely. It had a nice dive-bar vibe several years back, but unfortunately it's no longer worth the cheap beer. read more

Hudson Ma.....Fun place... On South street in Hudson. Smaller pub but the food is excellent. Service is also good. Very friendly and accomo dating staff. Great music coupled with friendly service and great food. A winning combination. The Rail Trail is 5 stars but this place is a good alternative in the downtown area. Avoid the Horseshoe pub, they literally have cameras watching everyone, I dont need my credit card info video taped, bad food and horrible service. read more

Our overly hangry tourist butts found our way here after a morning of apple picking, and my expectations, though low, were completely blown out of the water. We walked in due to some good online reviews, found ourselves in an empty, smoky bar, and started to turn around when an employee stopped us and promised that her cook us anything we wanted, fast, and it would be better than anything we'd get elsewhere. I couldn't turn away from a sales pitch like that. I'm so glad we stayed. Not only did we receive a delicious and generous helping of fish and chips in literally 5 minutes, but my husband had buffalo wings that were literally the best we've ever tasted. The beer selection is vast but nothing worth writing about. The food was very run of the mill for a bar. My girlfriend ordered the $19 salmon and it tasted like it was recently thawed and was nothing special. For that price we expected just a little more. Not to mention that the bar smelled a bit like old stale beer. All in all the place is average. The atmosphere was friendly but that's really about it. Don't think we'll ever be back. First off this is clearly a townie type bar but with the decor it seems as if its trying to be something else. I mean don't get me wrong I love a dirty dark pub/bar with cheap beers on tap and a special feel. But this isn't it, it's got an industrial feel, like they bought all the decor out of the store at the mall. You feel like a misfit as soon as you walk in basically as you wind your way through pools players (wouldn't this have been better off in the front) and you can see into the kitchen where the cook is gloveless throwing random food about. I did not test the food mostly due to this fact. The bar has no draft beer options which I expected on the way in. There are a fair amount of bottle options, but I always feel a little weird in a bar without beers on tap. However even for a budlight it is not the price you would imagine for such a place. I will say the bartender, a lady, was rather nice. Perhaps not overly attentive, but friendly enough which made me feel slightly bad about the 2 starts. read more

I am going around visiting as many night spots as possible to expose the discrimination. My fiancée and I came to Flanagans to eat at 12am the waitress Kat. Told us she was closing early due to lack of customers, more people came in that were white and she did not say that line to them. I drank my drink and left by 12:45 I am sitting in the parking lot while the rest of the white people enjoy there time past the time Kat said she was closing. I had the Lobsterzilla lobster roll....plenty of fresh Maine lobster meat, no canned knuckles and claws mixed in. Grilled buttered roll with a piece of lettuce holding lobster in bottom of the roll, no other fillers. Had it with light mayo...side of melted butter was an option too. Onion rings or fries with coleslaw....don't expect to pick this up to eat it or you will lose some lobster, fork and knife a must. read more

Absolutely delicious $.50 wings on Sundays! Tons of great sauces and flavors. Caribbean Buffalo and Sweet and Spicy Vermont were our favorites. The bartender/waiter was extremely friendly and attentive and helpful. Definitely recommend Finnegan's! read more
