The five stars I gave were well earned. This particular shop carries on a legacy that goes all the way back to nearly the founding of the city of Merriam itself. When the Macek family started this business some six or seven decades ago, it was a local mechanic shop that fixed cars for the neighborhood. One of my churchgoing friends used to tell me that when she went to her sunrise service weekday mornings, it was good to see her electrician, her plumber, and her mechanic all there with her every day. The mechanic she mentioned, was of course, the owner of this shop at that time. I took my car in to this shop for the first time around the year 2007, and I got exceptional service back then. Everything that the shop did was fixed completely, and specialty items, like welding mufflers that the shop didn't do had good recommendations for competent and economical neighborhood experts. It's no wonder that when you went in to the parking lot to make an appointment or drop off your car, you often had to park a few blocks away & walk in--the parking lot was almost always overflowing. The shop had built an impeccable reputation for great service. I have since moved to the east side of town and for a while lost touch with the Maceks and this shop. So a few months ago when my thirty-five-year-old Chevy was having problems, I took it into my local mechanic, who shook his head and told me he really didn't care to even try to fix it. It was an old car that had too many problems and he really didn't think it was worth his trouble -- or mine, so he recommended that I scrap it and buy a new one. I wasn't ready to give up on my old car because it still got great mileage and aside from the recent problems, it had been fairly reliable. I looked up the website for this shop just because I remembered how good they were all those years ago and found it had changed hands. Somehow I had a feeling that the family that owned the old shop wouldn't just sell it to just anyone, but to someone that would be honest in their service. I was very pleasantly surprised, because this new crew went above and beyond the call of duty when they diagnosed and fixed my car. First of all, they gave me the complete story of my car's problems. It turns out my other mechanic had simplified things a bit for brevity and the problems were little bit trickier than I was led to believe. Secondly, they were able to lay out a repair plan and told me what they planned to replace and what kind of labor needed to be done before they began. Everything was written out before they started, so there was no question about any detail. They meant to fix the car, period. Finally they set about fixing the car. They replaced parts and fluids, they made adjustments, and they tested everything when they were done. The guarantee they give is something you can take to the bank, because, at least in my case, they didn't stop until the car was right. It wasn't just fixed, the new parts engaged correctly, ran evenly and disengaged smoothly. I couldn't be happier, especially since this was a difficult repair. I'm convinced that the current owners of this shop are very worthy heirs of the Macek legacy because they were able to ferret out and fix problems that other mechanics wouldn't touch. I'd have to say -- if you need your car fixed you might want to hurry up and get your car down to them. Word is getting out that these guys are good and their parking lot is filling up! read more

New Concept Auto was a recommendation by Star Motors for our 2016 Kia Soul. (FYI: Kia Soul has had more expensive repairs than any car I've ever owned.) NCA was efficient at diagnosing the major issues and honestly answering my questions. Although we opted to replace the whole car rather than repair it, the fee that we were charged for diagnostics etc. was completely reasonable and in fact i was shocked that it was less than $100. Formerly Macek's Auto, this is around the corner from me, and convenience is key. The office is awkwardly shaped and it's a less than optimal space if you need to stay while your car is worked on. They don't advertise offering rides, but heard someone request one. I've not gotten any major service done here but got oil changes done here regularly. Unfortunately, they failed to put the engine splash shield back on correctly, so the following day, when I went to drive my car, it fell off and got roughed up. Called to let them know I needed it resolved and they got me in but I had to wait a lot longer than I thought considering that this had been their error. They have fair prices and they are nice folks. Just wish I hadn't had to go back in for something so unnecessary. read more

i contacted new concepts about a brake problem I was having with my car. They assured me they would do the job right and at a reasonable price. I had it towed to them they called me and gave me a crazy stupid price which I immediately told them NO. They called back and dropp $400 off the price and since they had it torn down I felt I had no choice. Then the next day I get a call telling me it's going to be $500 more than they said to begin with! What is wrong with this place? I checked other places in the area and found New Concepts was double and in some cases triple the cost of others in my area. Needless to say I will never be going back to that place again! I can't speak highly enough of my experience with Macek's. Took my 1966 Mustang to them when nobody else would work on it and Tim was able to diagnose the issue on the first day and fix it well above and beyond my expectations. This is after two shops just gave up on it! Thank you so much for getting our Mustang back on the road! I don't even know where to start, these guys are SO AMAZING! They deserve a 10 for sure! I was traveling across country and really needed some help. They got me in immediately! Even though they were obviously busy they made sure I got the assistance I desperately needed. The technician was super friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. They answered all of my annoying questions and walked me through the entire troubleshooting process. Turns out what I needed was going to take a few days for parts. A few days I didn't have for my travels. They went out of their way to work with local suppliers and businesses to try to find something for me that day. Even though I opted to have my car shipped to meet some hard deadlines, they STILL continued to help me! They finished diagnosing my problem and provided me with contacts to help me get it settled as soon as I reach my destination. They also provided me with personal transportation for two days while I made my arrangements AND allowed me to store my car at their shop until I was ready to go. They have multiple locations and generally offer free Ubers to their customers. This is a new location and the service is not yet set up, so they personally drive me around! My family has done business with Maceks for two decades or more and they have a huge core of return customers because they are honest, direct, and stand by their work. They are an example of how family businesses can often be superior to larger dealerships or chain shops. There are always cars parked outside, waiting to be worked on... Maceks is the best auto repair place I have ever found. I am so grateful to have them. I never worry about keeping my old, high mileage car because I know they can fix anything and do it cheaply and right. I have been to Macek's dozens of times in the past 13 years and have not once had a bad experience with them. I have a 2003 Hyundai sante fe with over 250,000 miles on it and I would not have it today if it wasn't for them. My Hyundai was a lemon when I got it. It needed a lot of repairs the 1st year I had it. I was quoted over $5000 every place I went. (it was the throttle and computer among other things) Macek's repaired everything for less than $2000. To give you another example of how great they are. In 2004 when I first started taking my car to Macek's, My husband had a gas leak in his car. You could smell the gas coming from the engine somewhere. He had not been to Macek's before and he took his car somewhere else. The other place quoted him $1500 to fix the fuel line and to replace some parts. I convinced him to go to Macek's and the cost was $84 to replace a washer! That was all that was needed. Every person I have ever referred to them can tell you the same kind of stories as these. This is something you can really see for yourself. Take your car somewhere and get a quote. Then see what Macek's has to say. *** the only draw back is they are super busy. You will have to leave your car with them for 2 or 3 days. They are really, really good and their parking lot is always packed. *** They also do a lot of work on older, classic cars and muscle cars. I always see a wide variety of old cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's when I go. I take this as a good sign. You would not take your 1964 Pontiac GTO. or 1971 Plymouth Hemi'Cuda just anywhere, but I have seen them both at Macek's read more
