The interaction felt dismissive and insulting, especially for a first-time customer simply asking for an estimate. If the shop was not interested in taking on the work, I would have appreciated them saying so directly rather than speaking down to me. I walked into New Concept Auto Service as quite the distressed property. I was recently a widower, and was about to drive from Kansas to Georgia. So I had these guys look at my truck. They changed my oil and charged me plenty for that, and to diagnose my vehicle. They told me I needed around $2,600.00 in repairs. And I would have said yes if time had been available. So I got home and took my truck to a place I trust and they said not ONE of the recommended fixes was necessary. You could trust these people, but I wouldn't recommend it. read more

I will never waste my time here again. I am sharing my experience to try to save someone else the hassle of this place. First, they gave me a ridiculously high quote, which I declined. At that time, they told me it would be $50 for the quote. It's not noted anywhere on their website OR the online registration form, that there will be a charge for an estimate. There's plenty of other information available, but that part about 50 bucks for an inflated quote? Negative. Shady much? Seriously, if they had been reasonably priced, they would have earned my business. But they weren't. I also read reviews saying they send a video showing you the issue. Um, no they don't. And lastly, they tried to upsell me additional "while we are at it" repairs that sent my estimate into the thousands. Save yourself some headache and just take it to the dealer. read more

I had them change my oil, oil filter, and rotate my tires. I also asked if they could inspect the sound deadening material under the body of the car because I accidentally ran over a wooden ladder. Sure enough, they repaired it! In addition, they did a video of their complete inspection of my car and told me that it was in good condition and did not try to sell something that I did not need! The windshield wiper transmission broke on my Mazda 3 a couple of weeks ago. At that time, it seemed like it was raining everyday making the car unusable because I couldn't take the risk of getting caught in the rain. In a rush to get the issue fixed quickly, I took it to Bret's because they could take the vehicle sooner than my local Mazda dealer. As a rule, I only take my vehicles to their respective dealers, but I broke that rule thinking that Bret's could surely fix a simple windshield wiper transmission. That was a poor decision on my part. Before picking up the vehicle for THE FIRST TIME, they called me and told me that they needed the vehicle longer because they had broken the windshield and would replace it at their expense. Note that this was the only positive part of the experience in that I got a free new windshield. However, this should have been a warning sign of the ineptness of their technicians. When I finally picked up the vehicle, the wipers had three issues: the wipers didn't completely wipe across the driver's side of the windshield, both wipers would wipe down too far and bang at the bottom of the windshield and the driver's side wiper hinge squeaked terribly. Supposedly Bret's thought this was considered FIXED. I'm a test engineer by trade, and it is usually common practice to fully test a device once it has been repaired to make sure EVERYTHING is operating properly. I brought the vehicle back to Bret's, told them of the issues to try to get it corrected. The second time I picked up the vehicle, they had only fixed the issue with the wiper not completely wiping across the driver's side of the windshield. When I took the vehicle back the third time, I not only told them what was wrong, but I demonstrated the issue with the squeak and the wipers banging against the bottom of the windshield. They decided to order a second wiper transmission and replace the part again. However, when I picked it up, while the wipers no longer squeaked and no longer banged against the bottom of the windshield, the driver's side wiper now wipes off the windshield past the edge of the car. The experience at Bret's is a clear indicator that their technicians don't thoroughly test their work and have no brains what so ever. I plan to not take any of my vehicles back to Bret's and to advise my friends to do the same. read more

Bret's Autoworks mechanics are kind, honest people and professional workers. One of my cars needed service and I was quoted over $300 to get it done and an explanation for the labor involved. When they called me to tell me that the car was ready, they also informed me that they'd found an easier way to get the work done and had slashed my cost by more than half. I have witnessed their customer service to senior people and how they are treated with respect and patience. I brought my Nissan Frontier in to Bret's to replace a broken heater hose that was leaking coolant. They inspected the truck and suggested I replace the radiator hoses as well since they were getting brittle, which seemed reasonable. The estimate for replacing the hoses was over $1400 which is astronomical. In a moment of poor judgement I told them to go ahead since I needed the truck fixed as soon as possible. I picked the truck up the next day, drove it a day and all seemed OK then driving down the road the temperature gauge shot up and I stopped. It was boiling all the coolant out. I took it back to Bret's and after checking said the fan clutch as defective. They replaced it for $700. The overheating issue was fixed but the new clutch stayed engaged and made a really loud noise when driving. Called Bret's they said nothing could be done. So after two weeks I'm out over $2100 to fix a heater hose and have a truck that sounds like a semi and they say nothing can be done. They are right as far as they are concerned, I'll never take my truck near that place again. They play Christian music and have Jesus signs hanging around but are through and through dishonest and fraudulent. Be warned stay far away. read more

As usual, Bret's did a great job. Had oil change on my son's car and needed it done before he drove it back to east coast. Oil change was done quickly while I waited. Added plus... the inspection video they sent going over the underside of car and checking tires, brakes, exhaust, etc is always a bonus. Bret's provided quick and comprehensive maintenance to my vehicle and called me every time there was a service related update.

Took my truck in for an oil leak. They called and said they had found the leak. "It was on a bolt in the head". I told the service writer that, that was a water jacket. He argued with me and said no it wasn't. I said if you're sure that's where it's coming from them get it fixed. Two days and $381 later truck is done. Go to pick it up and the bolt that was causing the "oil leak" was a water jacket and they cleaned everything up but never did find the oil leak. Their advice was to drive it for another 500 miles and bring it back so they could try to find it again. No thanks. Bret's will never touch another vehicle of mine again read more

The staff, particularly Dave, was more than helpful and explained everything before doing anything. They also tested the alternator and starter after the battery so we knew those were okay. Terry S. The biggest rip-off I've ever had, not money wise, but out rite deceit. I took my ford truck in for an estimate for a brake job. The owner said he'd have to put it up on the lift for the estimate. When it was going on the lift I heard him tell a customer on the phone that estimates cost $75.00, I interrupted him and asked if it was going for the estimate and he said yes, but if I have the work done that would be removed from the cost. I asked him to take my truck down, and he said that he would wave the charge. He gave me an estimate of about 300.00. I asked if that included new routers, and he said yes. I ok'ed the work to be done. When I returned to pick up my truck the bill was over $600.00. When I asked what was going on, because you quoted me 300.00 for a complete brake job, he replied that I have to pay labor, because they don't work for free. I said that I had asked for a estimate for a complete brake job to start with, he then became very rude, and said pay the lady and get out. I notice he advertises in the church bulletin across the street, But I would say don't walk away, RUN... They are crooks...... read more

BE WARNED! I have had nothing but bad experiences when taking my cars to Bret's Autoworks in Olathe. I have wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but after reading these other reviews I realize I am not the only one with a bad experience there. I first took my Mazda 3 in for a taillight replacement. I realized later that evening that it hadn't been replaced and had to waste more time bringing the car back in. A few weeks later I brought the car back in for an oil change and inspection and they gave me a list of items to repair in which their pricing was twice as much as anywhere else and they also listed items that didn't need replacing. A few days later I got a check engine light with an error code for the coolant thermostat and so I took it back to Bret's. Their initial price to replace the Thermostat was over $550 which was over twice as much as anywhere else I got quotes from. After questioning this they came down on pricing but when I got the car back the check engine light came back on shortly after with the same error code indicating the repair had not been done and the code had simply been deleted. I approached them on this matter and asked them for a refund for a part they never replaced and they refused. I asked them for a purchase order to verify the part was actually bought and they refused. I then simply asked them where they purchased it from and they would not give me an answer. I also asked them for the old part that was replaced, and they again refused. They, of course, wanted me to bring the car back in so they could "check it out" but it had been my experience at that point that every time I brought the car in something new was found so that was not going to happen. Charging for a service that was not performed is fraud. Needless to say, I will not be taking my car back there again and will not recommend them to anyone else. I will however be filing a complaint with the State Consumer Protection Agency. I gave them multiple opportunities to right their wrong and they refused on all accounts. read more

This place took advantage of my mother who speaks English as a second language. They overcharged her for work that she never approved and that was never done. They tried to get her to buy a new $5000 engine as a fix to a problem that was easily fixed. She got it repaired at another location for $1600 from honest people. Do not trust this shop. read more
