I was excited to try this restaurant for almost 2 yrs now I see this all the time , only to get very disappointed. The food is water down, even the simple Nan tasteless. Chicken tikkamasala supposed to be tender, it was hard. The chicken barbeque,they colored it red to make it appealing but looks like they dye it and was hard I had to asked the server if the owner was Indian. Great food and service at the diamond. This restaurant is conveniently located across the street from the parking garage and around the corner from the state Theatre. We arrived pre-concert on a Sunday night and were immediately seated. The diamond has an extensive menu, especially when it comes to Indian bread. I have never seen the number of different bread types and they all seemed delicious. I ordered the shrimp curry and paneer parantha. The curry was perfectly seasoned and had just the right amount of heat I requested. The food came out pretty quickly and was piping hot. Before seeing an Indian Movie at Cinemopolis we thought we would get in the mood with Indian food. The staff was friendly and the food was good but it was Christmas Eve eve and they were overwhelmed. One server for upwards of 20 tables and the takeout counter. I do not blame her for the slowness but it was very slow we went early so it was fine for us but had we been pressed for time it would have been a problem. This is the best Indian food restaurant in town! My mom and I had been looking for a place and this definitely hit the spot. My go to drink of choice will always be a Mango Lassi. Theirs did not disappoint and it also came in a fancy gold cup with the restaurant name on it. We were given a few options for spice level when we ordered which was great because I like spicy food and my mom does too but not as spicy. She ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was really good. It was different from what we were used to because it was cooked in a red sauce and we had only had it cooked in an orange sauce. I ordered the Chicken Tika Naan and it was so delicious. It's the Chicken Tika Masala cooked in to the Naan so it's the best of both worlds. I also got the Channa Masala and it's my new favorite thing. I already love chick peas and the curry just made me love them even more. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and super attentive. We came during their dinner hours but will have to come during the lunch hours because they have a buffet. We came an hour before closing on a Thursday night, and it was pretty empty. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala (medium heat), Garlic Naan, and Lamb Biryani (medium heat). The dishes came out in a relatively timely fashion, and the service was really nice as well. The tikka Masala had a strong tomato flavor that overpowered the Masala spices which was disappointing. The chicken, however, was tender. It also came with rice, so it was quite filling. The garlic naan was not super garlicky as I had expected and less doughy. The lamb biryani was probably my favorite. Flavorful rice and extremely tender lamb. I asked for medium heat for both dishes, but they weren't really spicy at all, so if you like spice, maybe ask for more. I visited once with a large group, and our order came out relatively quickly, which was impressive--usually, with my luck, I'd still be waiting for my naan. The food was good, with no major complaints, although it didn't exactly have me dancing in my seat. Their mango lassi was okay, nothing to write home about. Me and my friend went out to dinner after the library, we got sat down immediately and the waiter was very nice and the atmosphere was very relaxed I've never been to an Indian restaurant before before but when the food came out I was astounded! This used to be the best Indian restaurant in Ithaca but recently, after some redesign of both the interior and dishware, the food itself has decreased in quality- a recent visit left me very underwhelmed with uncooked rice and the worst version of butter chicken (little slices of spongey chicken). I brought my family here because of all the good reviews on Google, and we were all disappointed. I would have given 1 star but the food was actually pretty good. The service however, was terrible. We walked in to an (almost) empty restaurant and were told that we needed to wait 30 minutes for the food. We accepted since this restaurant seems to do a lot of takeout orders. After ordering, we waited for half an hour (exactly what the lady said) for the food. The restaurant looks like it's under construction, with boxes and unfinished furniture everywhere. Not the best view for a meal. Side note: I needed an extra spoon and I asked the waiter. He accepted and went and did a few other tasks instead. He dropped a spoon in the process and proceed to pick it up and place it on the table next to him. A few minutes later, I saw him being the SAME spoon to me since I asked for one minutes earlier. Not very happy with the cleanliness if this is a common occurrence. I want to support this restaurant badly since it has done so well for years. I did enjoy my dining experience here, however a few things happened that made it less than desirable. I didn't have too bad of a wait, they warned us of a long wait but were able to accommodate us much sooner which was great. The staff was very attentive, friendly and helpful. I got the meat sampler appetizer, I liked the Tikka flavor a lot, however the chicken was dry. I liked the sampler but everything was average at best. I loved the naan bread I ordered. Nice and fluffy and a good taste. I tried both the Chicken Mahkini and Chicken Kashmiri. The Mahkini wasn't too flavorful. I loved the sauce of the Kashmiri, however the chicken was also dry. I think 2 stars best encapsulates the quality of service (or lack thereof) and general experience you can expect when eating at New Delhi Diamond's. First off, this business clearly makes most of their money from takeout and delivery orders. Not sure if they're understaffed or just do not want to invest in more employees, but you can expect to be "waiting" yourself here. You order at the register, where you also grab your own utensils and napkins - and deal with the irritable cashier - then seat yourself (you may also want to clean the table beforehand). The wait time is also extremely long, as they are backordered with not only in-person orders but also, as I mentioned earlier, takeout and delivery orders. I only gave them two stars because one of the cooks gave us something on the house for making us wait so long. Finally, the food is served in soggy takeout boxes because the restaurant cannot be bothered to provide real dinnerware. The food itself was alright, nothing spectacular, but I wouldn't return again nor would I ever recommend the place to anyone, solely due to the poor service. Another thing is that the sign on their door is very misleading. It lists their business hours and says "TAKEOUT ONLY;" however, when you open the door and go inside, you'll see that there are people sitting and eating inside. Either way, I don't understand why they have such a large restaurant with so much seating when they don't make any effort to provide customers with an actual dining experience. read more

Diamonds is far and away the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to, and I have been to many! The food is fresh and flavorful, and the owners and employees are the nicest people imaginable. Also, as an aside, if you are a strict vegan or vegetarian, it will please you to know that all vegetarian food is cooked in separate pots and pans from meat dishes. Having traveled in India, I can tell you that the flavors are authentic and delicious. As if all of that is not enough, they have a wonderful and reasonably priced lunch-buffet on Fridays and Saturdays. The booths are comfortable and spacious. I can't say enough about this excellent restaurant. I no longer live in Ithaca, but every time I come back for a visit, I make sure to eat at Diamonds. read more

We frequented Diamonds quite a bit while growing up in Ithaca. So, I am sad to say I'm disappointed in the quality/value of the food currently. My partner and I just recently visited and ordered the vegetable pakora, chicken biryani, and lamb sag. We came about halfway through dinner service and the place was probably around half full. The waiters didn't look too swamped, but we were improperly greeted from across the restaurant and also waited half an hour for our order to be taken. We asked if the biriyani could be made without cashews due to a tree nut allergy and the waitress seemed a bit inconvenienced, but said she would "check on that" and never returned. About 25 minutes later a different waiter brought the entrees out with no confirmation that the dish was prepared without the allergen. We asked if we were still able to get the vegetable pakora and the waiter said that there was never an order placed for it. Around 10 minutes later, the waiter returned with the original ticket and the pakora. The chicken was very tough and dry and the spice blend for the biryani tasted a bit strange/nontraditional. The flavor of lamb overpowered the sag and made it taste a bit bland, however the lamb was tender. The pakora was good quality and the chutney paired nicely. Although the quantity of food is large, the quality is lacking. I think $17.00 for a good entree is a reasonable price in the current economic climate (unfortunately), but it is more than I would pay again given the circumstances. read more

Ate here while visiting Ithaca, ordered the vegetable samosas, lamb Kashmiri and chicken korma. Had sweet lassis for drinks. All were outstanding - the nuts were not completely ground in the sauce which I have not had before but all tasted really good. The lamb was fork tender. The lassis were perfect - not overly sweet and very refreshing. The samosas were excellent with some onion chutney - really close to being the best I have had.
