I was in the area on a beautiful day and decided to pop into a new-to-me local spot for a drink. That's how I ended up at New England Cider Company. It's tucked inside an old industrial park. If you're not looking closely, you'll drive right past it. Outside, there's a casual setup with a tent, whiskey barrel tables, and some umbrellas, which sounds nice in theory, but the grass really needed a cut. It kind of took away from the whole outdoor vibe. I was planning to sit out there, so that was a bit of a letdown. Inside was a pleasant surprise. It's much bigger than it looks from the outside. The bar is right at the entrance, which made it feel like a high-traffic zone, so not ideal for lingering. There was a private party in the main room, so I headed back outside to enjoy the sun. Now to the cider: I asked for 2 samples and ended up with the cider that I didn't actually choose, but hey, I'm not one to make a fuss so I went with it. The cider I wanted was actually pretty tasty, so I might return just to give the menu another try. You know how some ciders are sweet and yummy? The one I got was the kind that tastes sour but has a higher ABV. Still good, but my goal was sweet and yummy. Service was fine but not overly warm. Nothing bad, just not memorable. Would I go back? Sure, on a really nice day. If they had live music, I'd absolutely give it another shot. There's potential here, especially for cider fans, but it's not quite my go-to yet. They opened it up so it's nice to be able to just go and grab a table and hang out. You can grab stuff on top or cans. During the summer they have outdoor available as well. New England Cider Company is a great little spot in Wallingford to hang out on a sunny afternoon! Although if you're not looking, you might pass right by it! The building is located in front of an industrial complex, and blends into the surrounding buildings. Once you find it, there's a parking lot on the side and a tent out front with seating. The inside seating area is not too big, but it's cozy. When you first walk in, there's a bar with several different flavors of cider on tap including Pumpkin, Fresh Blend, Blueberry, Cranberry, Spruce Willis, and Sour Apple. You can get just a glass or fill a 32oz or 64oz growler. They also have flights available to try all 6 flavors, as well as cans of cider. There were also some small bites like chips, pizza, etc. listed on their menu, though I didn't get anything to eat, nor did I see anyone else there order anything. When I went, I tried the Blueberry Cider, which I thought was really good! The blueberry flavor wasn't super strong, but it was still tasty, and not too sweet. I sat at a table inside, where they have a garage door that opens to the outside when it's nice out. They also have a variety of board/card games to play. I went on a Saturday evening and they had a band playing out front, where they also have a small outdoor bar, which had different flavors on tap than the indoor bar, including Orchard Blend, Purple Rain, and El Noble, as well as regular (non-alcoholic) apple juice. It also seems like they have a lot of events most weeks. When I went they were advertising karaoke, "Cider with the Sanderson Sisters" for Halloween, and a bonsai class. Came by this weekend to check New England cider since my friend and I were nearby. Didn't expect it to by so small ! It must of had like 3 tables and then some seating by the bar area. There was tables outdoors but it was kinda chilly to sit outside. The bartender was very nice, friendly and offered suggestions. She also gave us samples of other flavors to try. My friend and I decided to go with the strawberry cider. Out friend Alex also had recommended that flavor. We actually ended up having a good time! Low key , chill and cider! We stopped here to enjoy some cider on a beautiful Fall day, but sadly all we enjoyed was the weather. The cider? Not so much. We never had NE Cider Company before, so we ordered flights to sample what was on tap. Fresh Blend, Blueberry, Pumpkin, Cranberry, Purple Rain and Spruce Willis. Each of us truly loves hard cider, so it was surprising that none of us found any of these flavors enjoyable. The Fresh Blend had a hint of vinegar that was truly unpleasant. The Blueberry, Purple Rain and Cranberry were all tough to tell apart as none of them had any strong identifying flavor. Overall, each had a more sour taste with hardly any sweetness. Can't really say "crisp" either. One of our group deemed the Pumpkin their "favorite", but wasn't really a fan of any of them. Then there was the "Spruce Willis". I have no idea why anyone would incorporate a flavor into a cider that is far more suited to an anti-perspirant scent than a beverage, but apparently someone at the NE Cider Company thought it was a capital idea. I simply do not have the words to describe how truly atrocious this drink was. I was proud of myself for not spitting it out the second it hit my taste buds. However, I did instantly hurl the rest of the foul liquid from my glass onto the lawn. I wish I was exaggerating. This flavor is beyond awful and should be made into a hate crime. You've been warned. Awesome autumn day of fun at the New England Cider Co. CT hard cider we were introduced with the flavored cider beer made on the premises. Had samples of apple cider and pumpkin along with other creative flavors and they you vote on the one you liked. The Liberty Food Truck was available for food which had awesome food available . We tried the buffalo cauliflower wrap which was so delicious as I never liked cauliflower until I tried it here. Also the same with Brussel Sprouts made with maple syrup and pumpkin seeds which was the bomb. Incredible I would of had it again and I normally don't eat Brussel sprouts but was a favorite. It was a 3 hour time frame we picked for the event and they games to entertain you like corn hole, bobbing for donuts hanging w string and lifting of pumpkins to see how long you can hold it for. Prizes giving to the winners. Especially the best apple cider donuts by Neil's Donuts. The cider beer is especially tasty as I enjoy Cider beer over regular IPA beer. What a weird and wonderful little place. Decidedly low-key, NECC is tucked onto an industrial road in Wallingford and has an awesome factory vibe. We went here to see a comedy show (which was so funny I gave myself a headache from laughing so hard) which was set up in a make-shift performance space in the warehouse where they brew! We had a blast. I had the blueberry cider and it was OUTSTANDING. Flavorful, crisp, just the right amount of sweet, and really beautiful to look at. Just a fair warning you will be sitting outside- the Tap room is incredibly small and because of the pandemic there's no bar seating. Cider is pretty good! My favorite was their pumpkin cider. Flights are the way to go here to try everything! Wish the ambiance was better for this place. The patio seating is not the best and the establishment itself is a cement block. I hope in the future they will spice up their patio because I know more people would feel the urge to come and stay for a while! Right now I just wanted to drink my cider and leave as the view and ambiance was sub par. My wife and I were looking for some things to do in Wallingford, as we had a reservation at a nearby restaurant and wanted to spend some time relaxing before we went. We ended up at New England Cider Company, and we were thrilled by our decision. It (Like many "Urban" Breweries/Mills/Etc) was in an older warehouse in an industrial-ish area. The interior was cold, it must be very difficult heating that large a space, and I was foolish enough to not bring a jacket. The music was a little loud, at one point I thought it was the ol "Get out were closing trick", but checking hours they didn't close for another 3 so I am not sure what happened there. But that is okay, because the Cider kept me warm! The person running the Bar was very nice, and more then happy to help us with picking out a cider. I saw them interacting with other customers, and apparently they are also responsible for the mixed drinks too. My wife and I have done a couple cider places now, and so far this has been the best cider. I am sorry to other cider place in CT, you were good and I still like you, but this place edged you out with the "Fresh" cider. read more

I love cider and this is my new favorite spot! New England Cider Company is conveniently located in the industrial section of Wallingford. Parking can get limited during peak hours so just be aware of that. The inside area is rather small but they do have a nice outdoor patio with plenty of benches and tables. You're welcome to bring your own snacks but they do have certain things on the menu like cheese boards and flatbread. The real star though is the cider. It's fresh and SO good. The purple rain is my absolute favorite and really hope it never leaves the menu. I got a flight and everything I tried was great. They will be offering tours soon for $8 along with a free pour. The staff here was super friendly and the bathrooms were clean which is always a plus! read more

This place is great! We came on a cider tour so we wound up getting a flight. My favorite kinds were the strawberry and purple rain, the purple rain has a hint of ginger which was unique. They were all delicious overall but those 2 really stood out to me. I took home the passion fruit one but have not tried it yet! They have a nice large tent with outdoor seating. They have some snacks as well as pizza. We ended up getting a pepperoni pizza and I was pleasantly surprised. The cheese board also hit the spot! New England Cider Company is a craft cidery that opened in Wallingford, Connecticut in July 2016. It was founded by friends Miguel Galarraga and Seth Hart. Around 2007, Hart (a longtime homebrewer) was in Vermont visiting his brother. The two found some apples from old-growth trees and decided to use them to make hard cider. Inspired by that first batch, Hart quickly began experimenting with more homemade cider varieties. He was later joined by Galarraga; the two worked together as car mechanics at various dealerships. Using their mechanical knowledge, they made their own apple press and started making cider together. By 2013, they officially launched their company and logo and started selling their ciders at various festivals, bars and restaurants. They officially opened their brick and mortar cider house and taproom to the public in 2016. NECCO is Connecticut's first modern cidery. There are older cideries in the state, but their ciders aren't carbonated and are more similar to wine. NECCO's hard ciders are carbonated and are more similar to beer. Since 2020, Galarraga has been the sole owner of the company. I recently stopped at NECCO after going on a long bike ride through Wallingford. It was during the Jewish festival of Passover. I admit that I don't keep kosher year round, but I at least keep kosher for Passover. During the festival, Jews abstain from eating any leavened bread or any foods made from grains. This unfortunately includes beer because one of the key ingredients is malted barley. Cider, wine and mead are perfectly acceptable libations for Jews to enjoy during Passover. I decided to order a taster flight which featured "Fresh Blend" (traditional cider), "Viva La Sidra" (Applewine), "Blueberry", "Strawberry", "Black Currant", and "Passion Fruit". The Black Currant cider was my favorite! The friendly employees Madeline and Phoebe also let me try samples of their Ice Cider and "Pommeau" which were fantastic! Ice Cider is made from the juice of apples that have been completely frozen. I had previously tried some in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, which is an area known for their ice wines and ice ciders. Pommeau is a French style applewine that is aged in oak barrels for 18 months. The staff also let me try samples of some specialty cask ciders that they had leftover from a recent festival: which included "Lavender", "Willy Plum Plum", and "Blueberry Lemon Lavender". These not only tasted great but also smelled fantastic! I ended up leaving with some bottles of the Ice Wine and Pommeau. It's been a while since we came here in person and I'm glad to be back! While the ambiance isn't the greatest, the cider sure as hell is! We ordered the flight of 6 to try them all and honestly couldn't pick a favorite. I think my top picks were Purple Rain and Strawberry! There is currently no seating inside, so only outside tables on their green which is more brown. They allow pups on the grounds and you can bring your own food (but due to COVID guidelines, you need to purchase one food item from them per group, either a cheese plate or personal pizza). I heard they are renovating and adding a patio so if you weren't impressed your last visit, stay tuned! But let me assure you, the cider here is worth it! One of the first things I Google when I head to a new place is local cideries, so as soon as this came up within a short drive of my stay in Hamden, I knew I was going. It was a random Thursday and when I walked in I was the only one there. A few others came in as I sipped, but it was nice and low key. Bartender chatted, gave me lots of info on the ciders and suggested a ton of great places to eat. I don't like ginger, so when one cider was tapped out while I was there and they replaced it with the ginger and offered me a taste, I was skeptical and was just going to take a sip to be polite. A few minutes off the main road in a warehouse that looks like part cider and part kitchen counter tops with the granite in the back. I enjoyed a flight of 6 for $14 sampling ciders ranging from a dry one to the most sweet one with a lemon flavor cider and watermelon flavor cider through in the middle. The cider makes the best of the space it has setting up a small bar in the front area and having additional seating in the factory grounds with picnic tables and other games. We enjoyed playing giant Jenga while finish off our drink. I appreciated the ladies walking us through the menu and giving us table side service. I've heard of a brewery. I've heard of a winery. I've heard of a distillery. And now, thanks to Yelp, I've learned a new word--- ciderie !! They sell half a dozen varieties of "hard" apple cider on tap, by the glass, by the flight or by the growler. Flights are 4 choices for $10 or 6 choices for $14. We went all out and tasted the six varieties offered. First of all, the flights are a pretty generous pour, no thimble sized shot glasses here. The varieties offered today were named Wet Hopped, Fresh Blend, Wild Cider, Lemon Tea, X-1 and Barrel Aged. You know that real sweet apple cider you may get in a bottle at your local bar? Well, you really won't find that here. The closest taste to that was the Fresh Blend, which was sweet but not overpoweringly so. I liked that one a lot. They started with a dry cider and added fresh pressed apple juice. The combination of that sweet cider taste and those bubbles make for a really nice glass of cheer (6% abv). The other varieties were quite a bit less sweeter. I liked the Lemon Tea (6.9%) a lot too. The heavyweight champ of the ciders was their Barrel Aged product (9.0%) that was aged in none other than rye whiskey barrels from a Vermont distillery for half a year. I liked all of the varieties except their Wild Cider (7% abv). It tasted like a cross between a double IPA and an unsweetened cider. Maybe it's an acquired taste (our very cool bartender said it was his favorite), but liking it just wasn't in the cards for us. New England Cider Company has a small bar and tasting room, with an overfill room next door where we saw a table drinking away and playing Jenga. The staff here was super nice, the customers are cool and friendly, and we saw quite a few growlers being filled up and walking out the door. It's a little tough to find, being in an industrial park, but you will definitely find that the trip there was worth your time. I came here with some friends since it was a little too chilly for a winery. The location isn't the best - industrial area with limited parking. We brought our own food, which was smart since they don't have many choices - charcuterie boards are available. The space is small, I had to awkwardly sit on a bar stool to avoid touching the stranger behind me. I tried the $15 flight that offered 6 flavors, of which I really liked the blueberry and fresh blend. I've had some of the NECC ciders at various events and was elated to read that they had opened a tasting room only a few miles away from where I live. I gathered some friends together (including the lovely Meredith F.!) and went down on Friday night. The parking lot is basically non-existent. We all parked in the DJ's Comics lot next door, which was fine since it was after hours. Walking in, there were only a handful of tables, which sat 2-4 people. The bar is pretty but very small, seating fewer than 10. There appeared to be additional seating in the next room if you were on a "tour" but I'm not positive. I'm glad we had a small group as we would not have fit with even another person or two. Our table was so small that 3 flights basically took up the entire table. There are 6 ciders currently available, and a flight gives you 4 samples, so one friend and I decided to go with two flights (that way we'd have all 6 and extra of the good ones). I was not a fan of the Russet or the Hopped at all, but LOVED the Fresh and the Barrel. I love the look of the place - very comfortable and chill after being open for a short time - but I hope they can get their act together. There was one tiny bathroom, which was a challenge when it's a packed house. They have a huge garage door in the other room opening to what could easily be an overflow patio during the warmer months. I love the art on the chalkboard and hope that they're able to preserve the pretty drawings and writing while still making appropriate changes. If you like their cider, the prices are decent and they have various options. They offer the flights of 4, pints, and two sizes (32 and 64 oz, I believe) to take home. On your first growler purchase, you will need to pay for it but you will be able to swap out for future purchases simply by placing it outside your car. This place is a great find. They have a variety of great ciders on tap, not the type you would mistake for your kid's juice box. Each is different, fresh tasting, and not overpowered by sweetness. Exquisite. There were six to try in the flight and a seventh that had been cask aged available for purchase by the glass. Each glass in the flight is a good size too. I felt pretty full, but I still had to complete my visit by trying a glass of the cask aged cider. So good all around. My friends and I had a great time catching up and talking. The place is small and it got pretty packed around 1:00. Parking is a bit messy. The lot is quite small so a few people have to park across the street or wherever they can find space. I arrived just before and was lucky enough to snag the last table in the bar area. There are a few small tables and a bar in one area and then some tables set up in the brewing area near the vats and set up. I recently went to the Small State Great Beer event in Hartford last weekend and I wanted to express how delicious the two ciders at your booth were: blueberry/ginger and pumpkin. Honestly the blueberry and ginger together are the perfect combination of flavors. This place makes the best tasting cider, hands down. Without a doubt, one of my favorite discoveries of the year. Crisp, dry small-batch ciders aren't always the easiest to find since the cloyingly sweet varieties seem to pop up more prominently around here. The NECC tasting room is a cozy, rustic space with a bar that seats less than 10, accompanied by a handful of small tables with views of the production space. $10 gets you a flight of 4 generous samples, so between two of us, my friend and I were able to taste all 6 ciders pressed in-house. From the light, delicately sweet fresh blend to a clean, citrusy cider with local cascade hops, the ciders are all so different from each other in flavor and depth, making each one a standout. The tangy (and beautifully jewel-toned!) black currant cider was the perfect summer sip, while the smooth, mellow rye barrel aged blend was, hands down, my favorite. Ranging from 6% to a more potent 9+% abv, all six offerings are also available by the glass and in growlers. This was my second time visiting this spot for a tasting and since I am a cider fan I am glad I did. My wife and I did a flight of four ciders. You can choose four for $11 or six for $15. We chose the four because we have tried their excellent dry and fresh blend offerings many times before. We had four different flavors ranging from dry to sweet: salted cucumber, black currant, watermelon and blueberry. The blueberry is their best cider and we had tried it before but not the other three. We were told by others that the salted cucumber cider tasted like pickle juice. I disagreed. I felt the cucumber was much milder than that. It was slightly salty but not overly briny. It was refreshing but not to my taste. It was my least favorite of the four. I really enjoyed the black currant and watermelon. The black currant was less sweet than the watermelon but neither were overly sweet, which is good. The blueberry is still king here as it achieves a good balance of dry and sweet. Highly recommended. They are located in a small space in an industrial park but they have a bit more indoor seating as they recently removed a wall in the facility allowing for more table space. They also have an outdoor seating area for the good weather months. If you like ciders, this place is a must try. You can also find their ciders in several of the state's microbreweries as a non-beer option. Very smart marketing move on the owner's part. read more

Love this place. I've been drinking their ciders for years now. Yes, you CT cider nerds (and you know who you are), I know that this place stumbled a bit out of the gate with some questionable product. But those days are well in the past now. Believe me. Everything I've had from New England Cider Company for a long time now has been stellar. And the variety of cider is impeccable. Whatever kind of cider you like, they have it, from sweet to dry to flavored to everything in between. A friendly, knowledgeable staff complete the excellent experience of visiting this little treasure of a craft producer. Don't miss it. And when you've had enough cider, drive a few minutes down the road and check out Front Porch Brewing, a funky little place that operates in the small space where New England Cider used to be.
