What a little gem! Onsite parking; bright indoor seating and covered outdoor seating in a relaxing space; and upbeat, friendly service combine to make this a fun place to stop for lunch. When you walk through the door, there is a little fish market in a room off to the right, or you can go straight to the register to place your order. Once you have ordered, you can take a seat anywhere you like and a delightful server will bring it to your table. My husband had the lobster roll with fries. The lobster meat was abundant and flavorful, the roll was appropriately buttery though a touch on the soggy side but not so much so that it reduced the experience. The fries were hot and crispy, malt vinegar and ketchup were available on the table. They have Athletic Brewing Co non-alcoholic IPA, which is a great accompaniment to the lobster roll at lunchtime, especially if you had to drive to get there. As a vegetarian who likes vegan fare, I was prepared to just keep my husband company, but I spied cinnamon French toast on the small chalkboard menu near the register, and immediately above that was listed avocado toast. I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived, as I did not know it would come dressed with a healthy serving of spinach, two slices of fresh tomato, a generous sprinkling of goat cheese, and a balsamic vinaigrette! It's a seafood market/restaurant in Kittery Maine which is a short drive from portsmouth. They have parking available on site. When we came it was not too busy. Inside is pretty spacious and you order food at the counter and sit down. Utensils, water and napkins are all self service. We ordered few side of scallops, haddock, shrimps and clams and a fish chowder. The seafood was fried, fresh and tasty. It also came with tartare sauce which was good addition to haddock as it didn't have a lot of flavors. I liked clam the most as they were tasty and reasonably priced. Fish chowder was very chunky which was new for me. I thought it was okay. Overall the place was pretty good. Definitely more reasonably priced around the area if you order it right. They were also doing a gift card special online which you get 15% off at the time so I bought it a head of time and used it which was nice. Our next stop was this sea food market/restaurant. It was not busy, and plenty of seats were available, a great lunch stop. We ordered sides to get a good variety including scallops, haddock, shrimp, and clams. All the seafood was fresh and dint need seasoning. The best was the clams and haddock fish! The chowder was solid and good but the real show stopper was the clams. Service was quick and freshly made. They offer a station for self service water and a take away disposable utensils. Drinks include options from the fridge, and some alcohol options behind the counter. Tables were clean, and we enjoyed our little lunch stop! If you're looking for a quaint little place to grab some fresh local seafood (to enjoy there or to-go), this might be the spot for you! You can tell this is mainly geared for take and bake seafood, not so much sit down dining, although it is an option. The food looked and smelled so fresh. The seating area isn't big or super fancy, but it does the trick. They had a lot of handmade clam decorations which helped give it a small town store feel. It was a little chilly, but it was close to closing, their ovens weren't on and it was cold and rainy so I imagine they turned down the heat for the day. They get extra points on service because it was the day before a holiday and pretty slow... we just wanted a few stuffies (aka stuffed clams for those none New Englanders) but they weren't technically on the sit down menu, just to-go. Well they ended up offering to warm them up for us in their oven, but it had been off and would take a bit to heat up. We said that wasn't a problem and grabbed a glass of wine to enjoy while we waited. The staff was pleasant, friendly and helpful! We didn't feel out of place or rushed as it was clear we were from around there. The stuffies were phenomenal. Perfectly cooked with just enough spices and a little extra cheese than normal which kept all the ingredients together and gave you an extra cheesy taste with every bite. Mmmmm... We got the scallop chowder and fried scallops as per recommendation from a friend. We each got a 8oz cup for $10 and the 1/4 pound scallops were $15. The service was pretty quick, and everything was fresh and hot. You order and sit yourself, and they bring out your food. The fried scallops were HUGE! They were huge lightly coated, fresh, and flavorful. The chowder was really good too. There were huge scallops in our soup too. Nice little lunch. We wanted to get little neck clams on the half shell too, but they were sold out! The ambiance was nice. It was pretty quiet and not very crowded around 1pm. There's a nice deck you can sit at in the back under some umbrella. They also have large tables for groups. Small tables for 2, and booths towards the back. 10/10 would recommend! What a cool spot! We've bought fish from these folks for a few years now, but usually at pop ups outside markets, but now they have their own spot! This is both a fish market and restaurant. While we've only eaten at the restaurant for lunch, everything has been very good. This is a very casual spot with both indoor and outdoor tables. You order at the register and the staff brings the food to your table. They have a variety of chowders and my favorite is the scallop chowder. Just incredibly rich and delicious with plenty of large tender chowder. You can also buy this frozen to bring home. We've also tried the fish tacos which were good. The menu is limited, at least at lunch time, so keep that in mind. The fish market has a nice, but small, selection of fresh fish and a pretty nice selection of oysters. Another interesting element to this market is the selection of frozen fish that is a bit harder to find. They seem to have a connection with the west coast and bring in Black Cod (Sablefish) and other Pacific fish that would be hard to find. They do have frozen Dungeness crab, but it is a bit too pricey, it is offered for less most anywhere else. I'd say 2 relatively popular and necessary condiments for this type of business are missing? It's definitely a bit annoying. The parchment paper used on the basket, result in piercing through, popping a hole and dripping onto the table. I found the scallops to be minimally overdone. Hot, light batter, thick cut of fish perfectly fried. Great slaw, shoestring fries and flavorful homemade tartar sauce. We also had the fish tacos. Way too much food for lunch, we could have shared one entree with the chowder and have been more than satisfied. We ate outside on a beautiful sunny day. Well I had the fried scallop basket this weekend at Fishmongers & it was one of the BEST ever. Soooo savory, with a light, crunchy batter: I could taste the flavor of each scallop - and I did not want the experience to end. And then the basket meal contained shoestring cut, fresh, fried potatoes - I ate every single bit of those, too. Usually the fries accompanying such meals at other restaurants are tasteless &, to be honest, throwaways. Not at Fishmongers. Even more savory seafood: my wife & I shared their haddock chowder - quite good, with large chunks of fish & potatoes. The cole slaw was nice, too, but I have had better slaw elsewhere. Speaking of my wife, she had the whole belly fried clam basket: she loved hers & shared some with me - I agree with her. Service was pleasant & courteous - the owner, Tim, even came over to our table to check on us. Prices are reasonable, too, and the tables and facilities are clean. I visited Kittery for about a day and a half and I went here TWICE. Food is as fresh as it gets- and SO gluten free friendly. Dedicated fryers, educated staff, gluten free BEER and CHOWDER too!!! Unreal. When we went it was quiet enough to feel relaxed, but it is casual enough to be kid/family friendly. What an awesome find! Upon entering, we were greeted by Captain Tim, the owner, who warmly welcomed us and explained the menu offerings. We chose the lobster roll, which comes with cole slaw, and scallop basket, which comes with cole slaw and shoestring fries. We were not disappointed! The lobster roll was filled with fresh, luscious lobster, very lightly dressed to allow all that delicious flavor to shine through. The bun was particularly good, a step up from the standard New England style hot dog bun. It was like a simple brioche, with a hint of buttery goodness to complement the lobster. The scallop basket was heavenly! I've honestly never had such fresh scallops - they were so tasty, with an oh-so-light and well-seasoned crust, and were cooked perfectly. The slaw was a perfect accompaniment, dressed in a vinegary dressing that was tasty and light. Those fries though - yum! They were freshly cut and thin, cooked just enough to create a fluffy interior and crispy exterior. We also enjoyed a local craft brew from a small but nice selection (they also offer wine, sodas and waters). The chilled pint glasses in the cooler were a nice touch so that we could enjoy that beer ice cold. It's very clear that Captain Tim and his team take great pride in doing things right! His super fresh fish and sides, expertly and simply prepared, are true perfection. We liked the new, clean dining area - a great casual setting to enjoy their delicious food. I was super excited to find fish-and-chips (somehow suddenly an endangered menu item) at a place with lots of positive comments. I ordered online and chose a pick-up time about 45 minutes out. I arrived to the minute at my selected pick-up time. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. Paid my $24 and was on my way. I drove from the restaurant, on Rt. 1 in Kittery, to Long Sands beach in York, about a ten minute drive. Temps were in the upper 80s. I put the bag with my food behind my seat, underneath the folded, convertible top. I was excited to see a very large helping of fish and a boat load of thin cut fries. They looked crispy, but upon tasting them they were not the least bit crispy and what appeared to be a crisp exterior was actually a plethora of coarse salt. Hey, I like salt. I worked at a fast food restaurant as a kid, so I know about salt on fries. This was ridiculous. My lips literally puckered like I'd had them submerged in the ocean for an extended period. They were nearly inedible, and I had to toss about half of them. I scraped what I could of the excess salt off the rest of the order. Again, ridiculous. The fish looked good, though the batter was a bit doughier than I expected. Not the end of the world, but the meal was not hot. In fact, it was not warm. It was clear my order (which, again, when I ordered online I chose a specific pick-up time, thinking that my food would be hot when I arrived) had been sitting for a bit prior to my pick-up. Maybe it was the tepid temperature of the food, but I found the quality pedestrian, at best. The price of the meal was reasonable given the portion and the location of the restaurant (closer to the coast, you expect to pay a bit more), but the quality was just... subpar. I really wanted to like this place, because the area sorely needs a decent seafood spot that doesn't cost you your soul. Sadly, based on this experience, this ain't that. read more

Best lobster roll I've ever had! This was the first time I ate here but not the last! The lobster roll was packed with prime lobster meat (big chunks of claw and tail) and dressed lightly - just the right amount of everything. The toasted brioche roll was the perfect compliment as was the fresh coleslaw (also delicious). We met the owner - he was very friendly and helpful and I understand from my friend (who is local) that he gives a lot back to the community. Captain Tim, the owner, stopped by our table to chat and said he caught the scallops two days ago. The lobster roll had a lemon aioli and was full of tender, fresh lobster. Very disappointing. We often get fresh fish here and today we decided to try lunch. Friday is two fish and chip lunches for $30, so we went for that. It looked great when it came to the table. But I couldn't even cut the fish. It was SO tough. I assume it was over-cooked. The weird thing is my husband's was not tough. I ordered the Fried Clam Basket and my partner ordered the Lobster Roll Special. The clams were very large and tasteless. They came with fries and Cole slaw. The fries were greasy and Cole slaw was dry. My partner's lobster roll was tasteless as well. His meal came with Cole slaw and a canned beverage, and an ice cream sandwich which was large and had 2 big cookies as the outside and delicious ice cream in between. The service is minimal because you walk in, order and pay but the people that serve you are extremely nice and helpful. The establishment is nice with nautical ambiance but I was disappointed at $78.00 for 2 lunches that were not great! read more

Best fish & chips! The fish is fresh caught on their boat. You can taste the freshness. French fries are shoe string style, perfectly done. The tarter sauce is magic, must be homemade. Got fresh monkfish from this new place, very fresh very good quality. The boss is super nice and sweet guy with his a little sweet helper( son). This place is so clean no fishy smell.
