Rating: 4.7 Came to stop by on the way back from northern Maine. It's a local seafood market located by the bridge at york, ME. They have live lobsters and other seafood as well. They serve various size of lobsters as well as cook them for you. However they do not provide place to eat or utensils so they function more as a market than a restaurant. They have sort of a parking lot where you can park. There are few works on the back hanging around and 2 younger staff that take care of orders. Lobster has quite few size options and some explanations for terms they use. We weren't sure what to get but figure we wanted larger size lobsters. SLX which is the largest ones were $14 per pound. They can also let you pick them live as well but we chose 2 lb ones. They charge $1.5 to boil but it's a-lot of work to boil properly so it's worth it. We waited about 20-25minutes or so and they also chilled it so that we can take it home to eat. Luckily we had ice box with some ice packs so it kept the lobster fresh until getting home. Once we got home we opened the bag to eat the lobster. It's a huge lobster with large claws. We got a large bowl and separate plate to eat. It was a massive task to crack the claws as one of the claw was huge and very tough. We ended up using a hammer and dull knife to crack them open. The meat was tender and sweet. One of the best maine lobster we had. Overall the place provides fresh maine lobster for good price. Only issue is that they don't serve it so you will need to plan to take it home and have tools to crack them open. They also only take cash. If i were to come back i would give them a call a head of time to have the lobster prepared to go and pick them up which seems to be what other people were doing. read more

Was driving down the street one time on a Day Trip to Maine and noticed that blue sign that Pointed "Off the Boat Lobster" and we were like Shit, lets go check it out. That was 3 years ago, I have religiously never purchased a Lobster anywhere else since then (and throughout the summer, we eat it probably weekly in our house) The kids on the Dock are soo great to work with, Follow the FB page and they are always informing of great deals and promotions. I have even purchased from them to ship to family that recently moved to Tennessee and was missing a little bit of home. A local whole sale lobster stand on top of the bridge. Just as the name says, it is really right off the boat. Here, you can get the whole sale price per a pound. Staff/workers were extreme helpful with picking the right lobster. We got the live lobster special of 6 lobsters for $50 which also included steaming it. Again, for the almost zero overhead this place has, the prices should be closer to true "off the boat" deals. Sometimes Hannaford prices are better. Now that there's competition like Southern Maine lobster co (cooks them too and takes credit cards) and Foyes in Kittery (real off the boat prices and also cash only), this makes for healthy competition. read more

We are very pleased with this place. We called ahead for cooked lobsters and were almost ready when we arrived at our selected time. It was cool that they will cook them right there in salt water. Packed right away in a bag, we put in a cooler bag and was still super hot when we got home 30 minutes later. I would recommend this place and will be back for sure! read more

I wish I could give this little lobster seller more than five stars. We're from Virginia and I'm on vacation. The locals suggested we try this because we wanted to get out lobsters straight off the boat. They were helpful in educating us on lobster and the price was more than fair that day. The young dude (Chris) that helped up was very knowledgeable - - told us about soft and hard shelled lobsters and made recommendations as to which ones were the best values and probably the sweetest tasting. Price per pound for the lobsters is listed on a bulletin board by category: culls, chix, 1.25 pounders, 1.5 pounders, and above. Tip: If you are doing pick-up for cooked lobsters - - call ahead and schedule a pick-up or you could be waiting for them. Ice is available for those who are taking uncooked lobsters home - - just have your cooler & they will pack it for you. Parking is not great but we never had an issue the three times we were there. There are a lot of residents and non-residents (tourists) that do not know what a cull lobster is (one claw). I made a perfectly good comment on the post about advertising culls but not having a picture of the culls (they had a picture of two claw lobsters). And for that they blocked me on Face Book. If they can't be honest with their advertising it makes you wonder what else they are not being honest about? I love to support small local businesses, but I will not be supporting this one. Absolute jewel in York! Family run operation with friendly staff. No seating, it's not a restaurant. They have literally off the boat lobsters who were in the ocean hours earlier. Normally I'll cook my lobsters at home but Off the Boat boils them in sea water. This gives an incredible flavor to the sea bugs. It really makes a huge difference. We have been coming to Off the Boat since 2010. Each year we meander our way up to York, ME from Saratoga to indulge in the beautiful area and great lobster. Over the years Lindsay, has been the best to help us purchase the best lobsters at the best price. Her family has been in the fisherman lobster business for quite some time. Have never had anything but the best fresh off the boat sweet lobster. We've actually purchased lobster their- Leslie cooked it - we chucked and froze it and placed the packaged frozen lobster in our carry on to Asia and it was ready to be eaten with our steaks upon arrival. My wife and I visited York from out of state. We drove by the sign for OTB and decided to check it out. Due to the detour it was a little hard to find. It was worth the trip. We went to Hannafords and picked up salads, bread, cheese and wine, as well as a cheap hot/cold bag to carry our cooked lobsters. We took our feast on the road and had a beautiful picnic lunch. My absolute favorite place to get lobsters in Maine! It's located right on the water, so it's apparent that their shellfish is of the freshest and highest quality! There's a stand where you can order your lobsters or steamers, however this is more of a fish market than a restaurant! You can buy live or can order steamed, which they do for a small fee. However their pricing is so affordable that the steaming fee is very reasonable! There are no places to sit so it's geared towards people who want to get their food to go! The staff are incredibly friendly and you can take pictures holding live lobsters if you're feeling "touristy". If you want cooked lobsters, it's good to either call or drive to the stand as soon as they open because they get a lot of orders! We usually call in at 11 am and pick up hot lobsters around 6 pm! SO GOOD! They have hard and soft shell lobsters in varying sizes, as well as steamers (clams). They do sometimes run out of the clams, so call early especially if you want some of those!
