Today was supposed to be a lazy day, laundry and eating salad since we've been out and about almost everyday since we got here. Sister had to do some groceries and she mentioned going for Korean and getting seafood pancake. Hmm salad, Korean seafood pancake. Let's go. Love the shopping plaza Gangnam is in as it has other international businesses here. Oh yay, real Koreans, annyeonghaseyo! We never grill for ourselves as I mess it up and it never tastes the same so traditional dining for us. Sister says she has to have seafood pancake but as a family we decided on set A. While waiting we had tea. And to my delight, it was rice tea. So I know this place is fo' real. Tea wasn't too hot and so we were able to sip it right away. And for summer, it's a bit cooler so the warmth of the tea was really comforting. First main dish that came out was the fried mackerel. Not that I'm an expert in this but 10-days going through S Korea and getting to experience the local cuisine for each province, this was bringing back great memories of our trip. Since we didn't have anyone to clean our fish, I was more than happy to clean the bones from the fish. Very little bones and so we were able to eat the fish easily without worrying about choking on it. Everything was so good. So much food. As for lunches, never a fan of it, but my sister enjoyed it and said it was good kind of spicy. Two kinds of broccoli, the one noticeably broccoli was seasoned well and I ate that up. The other broccoli was thinly sliced stems that was pickled with jalapeños. I bit too vinegary for me. But I pretty much finished up all the other banchan. The other main dishes of bulgogi and japchae dos not disappoint. The ladies that served us were so sweet and helpful. Told my sister that every year we visit, Gangnam is a must. We were shown a booth right served quickly. The staff was very nice and they didn't push food on us at all. They changed our grill and kept checking too make sure our grill was appropriately heated. The service was great because it was 4pm and we were the only diners. The waitresses were friendly and accommodating. The place is reminiscent of the past though a little dingier than before. I'm with everyone about the gratuity. They added the 18% which makes me kind of laugh because I would have added more but they tacked it on them put a tip section on the receipt as though I wasn't aware. Let me tip what I want because it then makes me wonder if the waitstaff is even getting the tips. I think I'll chance the traffic and wait for other Korean bbq in Tacoma then return here. Meh... I used to be a fan of Korean barbecue. The meat is pretty typical. The vegetables on the side are the same. The wait staff is alright, but our grill was really caked and black before they changed it out. Could barely see there was so much smoke. Came here with my husband for dinner tonight. Delicious food and quick service. We ate the lowest All You Can Eat (AYCE) tier and got 6 plates of meats. I had water. Our bill was 85 dollars. I was surprised because they automatically add an 18% gratuity! I do think it would be more transparent if that was posted on signs or menus. The menu suggests that large groups will have a gratuity, but it was only us 2? So maybe if you eat alone you don't have this added fee? 18% is very high, and it was just the 2 of us. It was 32 dollars at the lowest AYCE tier. I think automatic gratuity should be clearly displayed. The service did not warrant such a large gratuity in my opinion. You cook the food yourself... the service was fine but it sure wasn't extraordinary. I love the bulgogi, the brisket was good, and my husband loves their BBQ chicken. First of all, they need to update their hours. It says they close at 11:00 pm, but we just ate here and they were pressuring us to leave around 8:30pm. The waitress literally told us "I want to go home already" as we were finishing up our food. Me and my husband have been to so many different Korean bbq's over the past few years and this was the first time we've ever been pressure to finish eating and leave. I wouldn't have minded too much if the service was decent, but after we ordered our first set of meat, the server was non existent. She never came around and avoided us whenever she did. Our grill never got changed even though it was clearly burning and we never got water refills. THEN after nearly no contact with us, the waitress was irate and kept asking us if we were almost done. Also, they fill their rice bowl halfway, and so my husband would ask for more rice, and at one point the waitress made a rude comment about how he ate so much rice when she came to collect the bowls. It's bad. Quite possibly the worst food I've had to pay for ever. First, the service stinks! Rude, unhelpful servers. Ordered from the menu BiBimBap came out cold, like literally straight from the refrigerator. I complained, server tells me there are two different types, cold and hot... well why didn't the server ASK me to clarify instead of assuming I want ice cold meat and vegetables. Husband orders beef noodle soup. The beef is pasted together in one big gloppy clump, and there are no noodles in it! Sent back, they threw some in the bowl and the taste was awful. JopChae was bland and greasy. They didn't even bother trimming the noodles so they were about a foot long. No joke. It was like a comedy of errors. Oh and it is dirty too. Let me preface with, I come from the DMV area with lots of great Asian food and was really looking forward to trying this place! Came for lunch with my husband on a week day and tried the KBBQ menu. Our waitress quickly brought out our bonchon, dipping sauce, and rice, shortly thereafter our two meat orders came out. The meat was pretty frozen and the grill took a while to heat up. Both ends weren't heating up directly and so we had to keep everything in the middle of the grill so it would cook thoroughly. There were two other tables and a hand full of people in an adjacent room (ordering from regular menu, not KBBQ). Service was quick at first but slowed down and was difficult to get our waitress attention for drink and rice refills. The quality of the food was meh, was hoping for better. Overall, I would like to try the regular menu items in the future but would probably venture to Tacoma or Seattle for the KBBQ. read more

The food at this restaurant was really good. We enjoyed the galbi and other dishes. Service was good. They were attentive and refilled our waters as needed. It wasn't too loud for us and our child. However, I do not intend on returning. We were a party of 3 and was charged the automatic 18% gratuity. This I do not mind as my husband usually tips at least this much anyways. What I do not like is that in the receipt that the customer signs, it asks for another tip and makes no reference to the fact that the tip is already in the bill. My husband only caught this because I had seen on yelp that another customer was also charged the 18% gratuity even though they didn't have a party larger than 5. If not, then he would have not checked the first receipt and compared the numbers. I do not mind the 18% automatic gratuity, but I find it to be deceptive to remove that line in the final receipt and then ask for additional tip. The original receipt that shows the 18% automatic gratuity added is also not returned when they give you the receipt to sign. So if you're one to just hand over your credit card without looking at the first receipt, then you'll be tipping on top of the automatic tip. read more

I have been coming here for about a year now with my girlfriends and every time we get great service and the food is perfect. The kimchi is great, the meat is great, and the service is quick and the ladies who serve are lovely and attentive. The place is clean plus they always change our grill or help us when it gets too hot. I've been craving Korean BBQ for awhile and my husband recommended we visit this place since he had eaten here before. There was barely anyone there so we were seated instantly. Our waitress was kind and very prompt when it came to bringing us food and checking on us. We went with the lunch option since it was just the two of us (lunch special is $25 per person with 7 choices of meat, though I'm very curious to try one of their other menu options if we were to bring a group of friends). The meats were all so tender and juicy when we cooked them. I loved the options they gave for the side dishes as well. When it came time to pay, we noticed the already added on 18% gratuity. My husband didn't mind it just because our waitress was great to us, however had our experience been bad we definitely wouldn't have been happy paying that mandatory tip. If I could give no stars I would. We got here at 8pm on a Saturday & got seated with old side dishes that were warm and had flies on them. We ordered ayce & got told we can only order 2 meats for the whole meal. They brought us the meats and after we told them the grill was too hot it kept burning the food they didn't do anything about it. At 8:50pm they start cleaning around us and telling us they're closing soon when they don't close till 11pm. At 9:15 she brings the checks and demands we sign it now because they're closing and we need to hurry up. They add their own $20 tip onto each check btw. Worst experience I've ever had at a kbbq. We come here once a month because it's the best Korean BBQ in Lacey. Last night we got the BBQ - pork belly, brisket, bulgolgi, and spicy pork are our favorites. (My kids love the pork belly and bulgolgi). Their banchan includes - bean sprouts, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cakes, broccoli, pickled onions, and the potatoes. They'll give you whole leaf lettuce if you ask and it comes with unlimited rice. Dip the brisket in their house sauces before you eat it and it hits another level - adds the sweetness and garlicky, to the salty. After reading the other reviews - my husband and I were literally just talking about American expectations of a restaurant. I've always been a fan of Gangnam BBQ in Lakewood and was really excited to have them take over this location in Lacey. The food quality is better and some of the workers that were at Lakewood are now working in Lacey as well. It's always nice to see a familiar face. Some places will cook for you if you're new, but I'd like to consider myself a pro. Lol. I wish the location was a little bit bigger but they can't really do anything being that they bought this location like this. Oh and they will 18% Gratuity that they will automatically add to your bill. I usually tip 20% at korean BBQ but if had a choice then I would tip 5% or none. Hopefully the owners change staff because alot of reviews of this place is mainly all about bad service and tipping themselves. My son was in a grumpy mood but was happy once the food came out. We ordered the chicken lunch box. It came with chicken, rice, soup, potstickers, salad and japchae. When it first came out it didn't have the potstickers. We waited awhile and had to ask them about it and they brought some out. My mom ordered a beef soup which was pretty good. The lunch box was good. The side dishes were good. The hot tea was also good. Next time I want to try the BBQ.
