I ordered a Pepsi soft drink, and my friend ordered the lemonade iced tea. About 10 minutes later, our order arrived, and we took the hotdog and drinks outside to the picnic tables The picnic tables could've been a little bit cleaner, but they were passable. After all, this is a lunch stop, and a hotdog joint, and a dive. One bite into that foot-long hotdog, and it was hot dog heaven. The toasted buttered England style hotdog roll, just was grilled to perfection. The hotdog had a nice SNAP to it with just nice a little bit spicy kick to the dog, I loved the mustard and the minced onions. But let's talk about that sauce. I could taste some cinnamon in it, there probably was chocolate in it also, but this was, in my opinion, the best meat sauce in Connecticut. My friend concurred that his hot dog was delicious. However, he wished he ordered the minced onions to go with it after seeing the onions on my hotdog. So... Let's go for round two! We had another foot-long hotdog I had one with mustard, onion, and sauce. My friend had one with mustard relish, and onion on it and we demolished them. I had a Pepsi drink and it was nice and cold and fresh. It was a bottle of lemonade iced tea, and it was consistent with what's usually in a bottle drink This is a great stop on the way to or from the beach, and Lake Beseck Conveniently located, and parking is a breeze outback around the side. There is an outside ice cream window along with an ice cream counter inside to the right of the entrance. The ice cream and milkshakes looked delicious. I wish I had stopped and took the time to order one. Definitely next time. To say these are the best hotdog in Connecticut would be a pretty fair statement. Ever since I passed Guida's on my way to somewhere else a couple of years ago, I have had it in the back of my mind to give it a try. Today, a sunny early Spring morning, I decided to escape the dark recesses of my humble abode and finally make the trip to Middlefield. I am glad I did. Guida's has a definite 50s diner vibe. Everything looked clean, fresh, and appealing. The server was very friendly and helpful and the food was brought quickly. The fries were hot right from the oil and the 1/4 lb burger was cooked perfectly. Today, I opted for a strawberry shake and was pleased to find it not cloyingly sweet from too much syrup. Delish! Ok now, after numerous trips to this area of Connecticut and passing this place, on my return trip to NYC finally made a stop here and have some ice cream. Pal of mine had strawberry, I stuck with good old fashioned vanilla. Love the fresh creaminess and flavor. And not overly sweet, perfectly balanced. I especially enjoyed the waffle cone, nice and crispy. Perfect for double scoop, which is enormous lol. We purchased the ice cream from their window so I didn't get a good glimpse of the inside. The server was pretty friendly and fairly timely with our order. There are tables outdoors should you want to eat outside. Prices are moderate and worth it for some good ice cream. We pulled up to a step back in time. This place is fun just looking at it from the outside. Upon stepping through the door we were greeted with a big Hello and a "For here or to go?" "Sit anywhere, I'll be right with you." My wife and I sat at the counter for the full experience. We knew we were going to have hot dogs but it was just a matter of what to put on it. I knew I wanted the chili, onions and yellow mustard. This is my go to. We had fries and onion rings. Everything was made to order but got to us very quickly. The hot dog rolls were toasted perfectly, a little crunch but soft on the inside. The dogs were the same, a little char but not burnt. the toppings were generous. I'll tell you what, someone said the onion rings are very good, they did not exaggerate. Those onion rings were some of the best I've had in a long time. Our fries were very good too and if we only had them they wouldn't have been out shone but those onion rings... I would go back just for them. However I would certainly have to have one of these hot dogs again. My wife had the two scoops of ice cream in a cup and I had the three scoop sundae. The ice cream was amazing. We both had the vanilla = excellent, I had strawberry and butter pecan. Big pieces of strawberries and a mouthful of pecans in every bite. My wife had the moose tracks and I was jealous. I've known about Guida's for years because I've driven by, and because my Father-in-Law makes a point of visiting most times when he is in the area. I've been trying to visit all the CT hot dog spots older than 75 years old, and Guida (1946) came up, to my surprise. Guida's has the feel of a classic road stop eatery. Get your kicks, on Route 66. IYKYK They have old fashioned inside seating and picnic tables outside. In addition to hot dogs, they have burgers, grilled sandwiches and Gifford's ice cream. The Sign out front says Guida's was voted Best Hot Dogs in CT. I'm not sure by whom, and when, but I assume there must be some basis for that. I can't say they're one of the names that regularly comes up in my discussions. They didn't have any specialty dogs, which is my Go To order. The menu referenced a homemade chili. So I opted for a chili dog with yellow mustard and chopped white onions. It was a 10 inch dog that they said was made by Rosol. It didn't taste exactly like other Rosol's dogs to me. But it was grilled, with some char, tasted good and had nice texture. The chili was medium spicy and went with the mustard and onions. The bun was well grilled. I wouldn't say this was one of the best dogs in CT, but it was a good one and I'd return. It's always cool eating in the old school spots too. 4 Stars read more

Went tubing at powder ridge and decided to stop for a late lunch here. Everything is way over priced for what you get. Tuna sandwich barely had tuna salad on it and roll was stale. The grilled cheese had such little cheese on it that there wasn't even enough to have a cheese pull photo the hamburger we got was a plain Jane hamburger which we figured you can't mess up but for the price and the size it was super disappointing. Milkshakes were the star of the show and the only reason they have two stars. Service was curt and felt like they could care less and definitely didn't want to be there. The loaded fries without chili were awful super soggy and barely any cheese. The restaurant is cute and "old times" inside with bar stools and bench tables and everything is open for plain view. They only take cash which I find super annoying in this day and age and of course have an atm inside waiting for you to not only get charged by them but also your own bank. They offer a 10" dog with a variety of toppings in a split top roll. They boast of being the best hotdog joint in Connecticut. Not sure what year but they have a lot of awards posted. It's cash only, and there are picnic tables on the left side of the building. It does require crossing the road by the light, so proceed with caution. New Guida's Restaurant (formerly just "Guida's Restaurant") advertises that they have CT's best hot dog, and I'd say it's pretty close! If you're going for the first time, I'd definitely recommend ordering the classic 10" Hot Dog, which you can customize with a whole list of different toppings (note that they also serve regular hot dogs as well, but again I'd recommend the 10" for the full experience). I got mine with ketchup, yellow mustard, green relish, and chopped onions, and it was delicious! Sides include regular fries, sweet potato fries, loaded fries, and onion rings and are not included. I ordered the regular fries and they were excellent. My server was friendly, and my food was ready in just a few minutes. I was too full for any ice cream, but they serve Gifford's Ice Cream, and have a separate window outside where you can order that. If you're ordering food, you can sit inside at the counter or in a booth, and they also have picnic tables outside. The inside is decorated like a 1950's diner. Guida's has a vintage charm when you visit and see the inside and outside are reminiscent of a 50s diner, sort of. There were only 3-4 ladies working, and the restaurant was packed for a weekday afternoon. They looked super busy (maybe even a little overwhelmed), but were all managing certain tasks to attend to everything. Their menu for food was surprisingly larger than I would have thought and their ice cream menu was even greater. My husband and I each got two hot dogs (one plain and one with cheese) and shared an order of fries. We ordered to-go and sat outside on the benches next to the building, which was a nice area to enjoy our food at on a nice day. The hot dogs were made right on the flat top grill in front of us, which was cool to see when we waited inside for the order. The hot dogs had great flavor from the flat top and a wonderful snap when you took a bite, which we appreciated. Fries were pretty standard and nothing to write home about but the hot dogs carried everything enough to not even matter. When you are craving a hot dog and fries there is not much better of a place than Guida's (now called New Guida's) at the end of 691. And getting a hot dog with fries and a strawberry shake has become something we do every few months when feeling indulgent and desiring not exactly healthy food options. The reason for 3 stars instead of more comes down to food safety. Perhaps we'd never see this with a grill hidden in a kitchen but I saw the handling of raw meat (putting burgers and raw chicken on the grill out of the fridge) and then directly going to handling the hot dog buns, cooking utensils and sauces. In my own home this'd be something we won't do with ground meat because it is FoodSafe 101 but I understand this is a risk you take going anyplace outside the home. read more

I went there yesterday, I should have kept driving While waiting to receive my food , I noticed the cook did not have a mask on. I asked him why he didn't have one on, His reply was he felt a little light headed so he took it off. He didn't take it off for a minute, he had it off the entire time he was cooking. I waited in line for a half hour, it was off the entire time. .He also had no gloves on nor did he wash his hands , he was handling food and money. My boyfriend had a chocolate and moose tracks sundae with hot fudge and Reese's pieces. I was surprised at how few ice cream flavors there were overall, though. This is my first ever yelp review. My boyfriend and I both had hotdogs (4/5 stars). But my review is mostly based on the most uncomfortable serving experience ever. Our server James came over to our table while we were eating to tell me and my boyfriend stories about how he drove drunk with all his buddies, bought drugs in Colorado, made racial jokes, etc. He cussed uncontrollably the whole time, over shared about his life and truly made us never want to come back.
