Hot dog with chili, sauerkraut, mustard, and relish.
    Brian B.

We pulled up to a step back in time. This place is fun just looking at it from the outside. Upon stepping through the door we were greeted with a big Hello and a "For here or to go?" "Sit anywhere, I'll be right with you." My wife and I sat at the counter for the full experience. We knew we were going to have hot dogs but it was just a matter of what to put on it. I knew I wanted the chili, onions and yellow mustard. This is my go to. We had fries and onion rings. Everything was made to order but got to us very quickly. The hot dog rolls were toasted perfectly, a little crunch but soft on the inside. The dogs were the same, a little char but not burnt. the toppings were generous. I'll tell you what, someone said the onion rings are very good, they did not exaggerate. Those onion rings were some of the best I've had in a long time. Our fries were very good too and if we only had them they wouldn't have been out shone but those onion rings... I would go back just for them. However I would certainly have to have one of these hot dogs again. My wife had the two scoops of ice cream in a cup and I had the three scoop sundae. The ice cream was amazing. We both had the vanilla = excellent, I had strawberry and butter pecan. Big pieces of strawberries and a mouthful of pecans in every bite. My wife had the moose tracks and I was jealous. I think she got more ice cream than me. Not really, I was just jealous. They claim the dogs are the best in Connecticut, I may not go that far, but they certainly are very good and worth a visit.

I've known about Guida's for years because I've driven by, and because my Father-in-Law makes a point of visiting most times when he is in the area. I've been trying to visit all the CT hot dog spots older than 75 years old, and Guida (1946) came up, to my surprise. Guida's has the feel of a classic road stop eatery. Get your kicks, on Route 66. IYKYK They have old fashioned inside seating and picnic tables outside. In addition to hot dogs, they have burgers, grilled sandwiches and Gifford's ice cream. The Sign out front says Guida's was voted Best Hot Dogs in CT. I'm not sure by whom, and when, but I assume there must be some basis for that. I can't say they're one of the names that regularly comes up in my discussions. They didn't have any specialty dogs, which is my Go To order. The menu referenced a homemade chili. So I opted for a chili dog with yellow mustard and chopped white onions. It was a 10 inch dog that they said was made by Rosol. It didn't taste exactly like other Rosol's dogs to me. But it was grilled, with some char, tasted good and had nice texture. The chili was medium spicy and went with the mustard and onions. The bun was well grilled. I wouldn't say this was one of the best dogs in CT, but it was a good one and I'd return. It's always cool eating in the old school spots too. 4 Stars

Went tubing at powder ridge and decided to stop for a late lunch here. Everything is way over priced for what you get. Tuna sandwich barely had tuna salad on it and roll was stale. The grilled cheese had such little cheese on it that there wasn't even enough to have a cheese pull photo the hamburger we got was a plain Jane hamburger which we figured you can't mess up but for the price and the size it was super disappointing. Milkshakes were the star of the show and the only reason they have two stars. Service was curt and felt like they could care less and definitely didn't want to be there. The loaded fries without chili were awful super soggy and barely any cheese. The restaurant is cute and "old times" inside with bar stools and bench tables and everything is open for plain view. They only take cash which I find super annoying in this day and age and of course have an atm inside waiting for you to not only get charged by them but also your own bank. Buyer beware Plenty of parking and Betty boop life size statute greets you at the front of the restaurant Definitely won't be back

This time we got the hotdog with a side of fries, a birch beer and a cookies and cream shake. Eating here always gives me the feeling of nostalgia as if I'm sitting in a 50s style diner.

Came here for a quick bite to eat. I Ordered the hotdog combo with fries and a cookies and cream milkshake. Food was hot and delicious. The service was fast. Restaurant was clean. This restaurant never disappoints. I have been coming here since I was a kid.

My husband and I have always been so curious to visit Guida's, so after years of talking about it, we finally stopped in for lunch. For being voted CT's best hot dogs before, we can't say we were impressed. We liked that they were long, but they were very thin, and we didn't care for the overall flavor. Pretty pricey too. Fun retro vibe and they serve Gifford's ice cream, but don't see ourselves coming back. Our server was nice though for the brief moments spent at the table.

I'm embarrassed to say I've driven by this place for years and never knew what it was all about. It's a hot dog, burger joint in the style of an old time diner. They offer a 10" dog with a variety of toppings in a split top roll. They boast of being the best hotdog joint in Connecticut. Not sure what year but they have a lot of awards posted. I only gave them 4 stars as the place is definitely showing its age but to a degree it's part of the charm. It's on SR 66 heading towards Middletown. It's definitely worth the stop. FYI CASH ONLY. Try the chili dog.

I have been coming here since I was in diapers and it was a legit drive in and you could eat in your car. When I was pregnant their hot dogs were a craving of mine. I rarely eat in as most of the time it's what my mom requests for me to pick up on my way to her house. The inside decor is the old 1950s diner. It could use some upgrading. Staff seem friendly when I arrive to pick up my order, never had a bad experience. They have burgers, fries, sandwiches, clams, and ice cream but they are most known for their hot dogs, Their hot dogs are foot-longs with a toasted buttery bun... that's what seals it for me! Their fries are hit or miss as far being cooked enough. They are cash only but thankfully have an atm on site.

This review is just on the ice cream - I have no experience with the food, at least yet. Getting in is pretty easy as long as you're turning right from the main road, and there is a light as well. The light goes right to the back of the restaurant, where apparently there is also a trail head. There is also limited parking in the front. Ice cream can be ordered from a take out counter outside. It's cash only, and there are picnic tables on the left side of the building. It does require crossing the road by the light, so proceed with caution. The picnic area is very clean, and feels almost beachy. The ice cream will hit the exact spot you need on a hot day. It did start to melt quickly, but every lick was delicious!

Talk about a fantastic hot dog. This 1950s style diner is famous for their 10 inch hot dogs for good reason. The hot dog itself has tons of flavor and can be served with numerous toppings. I recommend adding cheese which they melt between the bun and the hot dog so it's almost like it's wrapped in grilled cheese! The parking lot has picnic tables for the summer time and the staff is friendly. It is cash only but there is an atm inside!

Cute retro diner like feel. The business is cash only but there is an ATM available inside. I went for a tuna melt and sweet potato fries. I could see the food being be prepared right in front of me since we were seated by the window. My husband had one of their sundaes which comes with 3 scoops of ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, walnuts, and a cherry. My husband added peanut butter sauce. On the inside it is advertised they proudly serve Gifford Ice cream. Guida's milk doesn't seem to actually have their own ice cream. Our mistake for assuming. The food was good but nothing particularly special. Their claim to fame for the area seems to be hot dogs, maybe we would have been more impressed if we went with the hot dogs. Overall it was a good experience. The service was fast, employees pleasant, and great prices.

Old school diner with a 1950s vibe. Have a basic menu, but the specialty is hot dogs. Rated as having CT's best hotdogs In addition to hot dogs there are also a few other basic American staples, including ice cream (Giffords) and milkshakes. Both stool and booth seating Cash only I got a hotdog, fries, and a milkshake. The hot dog was very crisp and tasty, and I could see how it could have been rated as CT's best. The fries were a little bland (needed more salt), and the milkshake was solid. The food was prepared in ~2 min from me ordering it Some picnic tables for people to sit outside as well 7.5

New Guida's Restaurant (formerly just "Guida's Restaurant") advertises that they have CT's best hot dog, and I'd say it's pretty close! If you're going for the first time, I'd definitely recommend ordering the classic 10" Hot Dog, which you can customize with a whole list of different toppings (note that they also serve regular hot dogs as well, but again I'd recommend the 10" for the full experience). I got mine with ketchup, yellow mustard, green relish, and chopped onions, and it was delicious! Sides include regular fries, sweet potato fries, loaded fries, and onion rings and are not included. I ordered the regular fries and they were excellent. My server was friendly, and my food was ready in just a few minutes. I was too full for any ice cream, but they serve Gifford's Ice Cream, and have a separate window outside where you can order that. If you're ordering food, you can sit inside at the counter or in a booth, and they also have picnic tables outside. The inside is decorated like a 1950's diner. Payment is cash-only but they do have an ATM. There's a few parking spaces in front of the building, and a large parking lot in back. Overall I would highly recommend stopping by and trying one of Guida's famous 10" hot dogs!

I sampled one flavor that I thought was decent, but I decided to order the Red Velvet Cake flavor which looked good and tasty. I liked the Red Velvet Cake flavor. It was a bit of a cheat code in the best possible way. I mean -- combine ice cream and one of the best cakes, and you're ahead of the game. The waffle cone was good too, but it had a big hole in the bottom. Luckily, I noticed Dixie cups on the counter. So I just placed the cup under the cone. Service was pleasant and efficient. Sundae Afternoon was a good ice cream shop and is worth visiting. I wouldn't say it's with the top tier CT places though. Four Stars

This is my first time trying this ice cream and different the other ice cream shops in the area who serve Giffords Ice Cream, Praline's Ice Cream, etc. They have a few dairy-free options too. I got two scoops of the Stellar Coffee flavor. The ice cream was light, rich coffee flavor with a thick fudge swirl and a generous amount of mini dark chocolate coffee cups. My husband tried the Strawberry Shortcake Bomb, their take of the Good Humor bar. There was strawberry ice cream in the center, wrapped in vanilla, and rolled in the strawberry shortcakes pieces. They had other fun flavors and treats like a Neil's Donut Ice Cream Sandwich (would love to try this next). Sundae Afternoon is in a great area that we pass by often. It's next to a Subway and across the street from the Yalesville Veterinary Hospital. They have dog friendly ice cream treats too. For a small shop, it's very open.
