    Strawberry Shortcake Bomb
    Lindsay N.

There is another ice cream shop in town offering up premium ice cream, frozen treats, milkshakes and cold brew. Make your afternoon, a Sundae Afternoon. Upon arriving, the ladies serving you were the sweetest. Offering us a taste of the ice creams, announcing their specials and pointing out pre-made frozen treats in a separate freezer across from the main counter. The main counter has all the hard ice creams on display. They have hard ice creams from The Ice Cream Club, a company from Florida. This is my first time trying this ice cream and different the other ice cream shops in the area who serve Giffords Ice Cream, Praline's Ice Cream, etc. They have a few dairy-free options too. I got two scoops of the Stellar Coffee flavor. The ice cream was light, rich coffee flavor with a thick fudge swirl and a generous amount of mini dark chocolate coffee cups. My husband tried the Strawberry Shortcake Bomb, their take of the Good Humor bar. There was strawberry ice cream in the center, wrapped in vanilla, and rolled in the strawberry shortcakes pieces. They had other fun flavors and treats like a Neil's Donut Ice Cream Sandwich (would love to try this next). Sundae Afternoon is in a great area that we pass by often. It's next to a Subway and across the street from the Yalesville Veterinary Hospital. They have dog friendly ice cream treats too. For a small shop, it's very open. The dining area is spacious, walls painted in a fun, bright orange color. Can't wait to see more of Sundae Afternoon and what they have in store when the weather heats up!

I would give 3.5 stars if possible. I thought the ice cream was made in-house, but learned it comes from somewhere in Florida. I understand that you're competing with some well-entrenched competitors and need to set yourself apart, and having something other than Pralines or Giffords is nice, but may not be enough. Reading the description of the shop and why the owner created it, I was very much looking forward to trying it out. It's housed in an old dry cleaner shop and redone very well, very clean and bright and welcoming. With such a personal story I expected the owner to be a bit more exuberant about helping guests, especially during the first week open. To be completely fair, I'm only guessing that the person who helped me was the owner because it was just after opening and during the first week, so, I would think the owner would be there. She was friendly enough, offered a taste of whatever I wanted, but then turned her back and was not very interactive or communicative. One pet-peeve I have about ice cream shops is that they hand you a cone and then you have to reach into your pocket to pay. It's not easy to do and can get quite messy. Easy solution-have an ice cream holder by the register! Guess what, they have an cone holder near the register, however, if was full of some type of chocolate lollipops. I order the garbage can flavor which was vanilla base with 7 different chocolate candies mixed in. It was good, not great. It was lighter than most premium ice creams, which many may prefer. There were plenty of chocolate candy pieces and a decent portion size, but still quite expensive. Updating my review based on the owner's feedback, which I appreciate. I had no idea the ice cream was not made in-house, which would explain why it was light in flavor and mouthfeel. Regarding expense, I would say it's even more expensive for a product not freshly made in-house. I wish you every success.

Great new ice cream shop in Yalesville. Friendly staff and lots of great interesting flavors to choose from. They have an ice cream donut (w Neil's Donuts) and a homemade choco taco. Pup cups, too.

Absolutely amazing ice cream, Toasted coconut. I added fresh pineapple like a frozen, frozen piña colada. Their ice cream is one of the best

Service - it's okay - the kids working there seem nice but they were forgetful when it came to the order. No had ordered waffle cones on the side and when I got home, they were not there. They were friendly enough but lacked attention to detail. Ambiance was ehhh. I wanted and expected a feel of a craft homemade establishment and it lacked that entirely. The board was hard to read and the overall place seemed big but with nothing in it. The best word I could come up with was it felt very sterile. Not a place I'd want to stay in long but more of a get my ice cream and go. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars because of this but the ice cream really is tasty!

They have a long list of ice cream flavors from their specialty cannoli, cake batter, cotton candy, black raspberry and more. The also have a ton of toppings and sauces. I got a chocolate dipped waffle cone with a scoop of blueberry swirl and coconut. The shop is very large with two fun photo op walls. All the toppings are on display at the counter. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. There are many picnic tables outside to enjoy your ice cream. I also thought the trash can painted like an ice cream cone was a great touch. I will be coming back again because I'd love to try their Neil's Donut Sundae. Neil's Donuts is right up the street.

"Well, Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, Ms. Claudy Girl, you sure look…read moregood to me" (Elvis Presley) Sweet Claude's may be one of the more difficult to find ice cream stores around, so your mindset better be "determination" focused, because I guarantee you'll be very happy with your dish or cone. You'll find them tucked away pretty much out of view inside the Artsplace building (493 W Main) within the Ball and Socket Art Complex in Cheshire. They've been cranking out homemade ice cream since 1988, and we had a stellar experience when we visited. They have plenty of ice cream flavors (including some nonfat and sugar free), plus yogurts, sorbets and ices. Some of their interesting flavors are Claude's Cupcake, Dough - Si -Dough, Salty Pretzel, Smurf, and a "Banana Corner" which is a rotating selection of banana-based ice cream. How cool! I went with a 2-flavor small dish of Salty Pretzel and Triple Chocolate. The ice cream was smooth as silk and full of flavor. Seriously, their ice cream is terrific, and at $5.35 for a big enough cup, was a very fair value. PRO TIP Because Sweet Claude's is in the Ball and Socket Art Complex there are many sections within the complex to park your car. But only park in front of Sweet Claude's if you plan on staying there for no more than a half hour. Visitors to the rest of the complex or the Farmington River Trail should leave those precious spots to the ice cream afficionados!
