The food is good. I miss Mongolian beef, and I don't recommend the hot and sour soup, but I come back here regularly. The service is usually vary good and friendly. I've asked for chili sauce because I love spicy food, and they bring it out quickly. Going inside and sitting down is nice. I can't wait to go back!!! Got there early for a 5 PM meal. Was hungry so my husband and I ordered large. We had enough food we were bursting at the seams, then the next day we threw all the leftovers in a large cast iron skillet added a can of mixed vegetables, there was enough to happily satisfy us plus 7 kids! Horrible horrible horrible. The food portions were small compared to what I paid for them, the chicken was so paper thin you could have seen through it and it was dry and almost burned, the chow thing I ordered was full of vegetables but very little beef, shrimp and chicken. The man delivering the food said I wasn't on the map. What map? Use a phone. And when it came, I could only digest less than half and threw the rest away. I have eaten plenty of Chinese food and this by far was the very worst I have EVER have. They clearly don't care what they serve their customers and it shows. If you have these guys an ounce of common sense, it would DIE of loneliness. They won't let you inside the restaurant at this stage, but they also don't come to the door when you call to pick up your food. Instead, they go to the parking lot. There are no signs indicating this. When I called, I specifically said I was at the front door, but the guy ended up calling me several minutes later, asking where I was. This was on top of them continuously trying to blame me for their crummy telephone service. I had been talking to others and I did immediately after with NO ISSUES, but they kept going, "Sir, you have a bad connection. I can't understand you." I tried calling three different times. They do typical greasy American-Chinese fare pretty well (fried rice, orange chicken, egg rolls, chow mein, fried shrimp, moo goo gai pan, etc.). I should add the caveat that I'm not giving it four stars because it's knock-your-socks-off Chinese, rather because it's the best Chinese in Pocatello. read more

The 2 stars is for their sweet n sour sauce & lo mein, but that is it. They charge you to get your meal without onions, one of the reasons I never returned to Mandarin House. Also, the only server there worth her pay (if not more) is the little blond gal. If she is not there, the service sucks. We just stopped going here because of the continual "no onion" charge and the bad service. read more

The service was friendly and attentive, but the food wasn't very good. I ordered a large bowl of hot and sour soup, and it was more sour than anything; probably the worst soup I've ever had! I had to add a ton of soy sauce abd sriracha before I was able to choke it down, and before you tell me that I should have sent it back, I forgot to mention that it took 20 minutes for the kitchen to get us our food, and I didn't have the time to wait for better soup. Great Chinese food in town. I drove between Montana and Utah regularly, and I've been to this place more than 20 times. Food is incredibly good in this small town. The owner is very nice and friendly. Honey walnut shrimp is a must try. They also have great chow mien and fried rice. Can't wait to go back again this summer. read more

If I had the option of selecting a lower star rating than one I would select something in the negative range. This place is a death trap. How could you call yourself a Chinese restaurant and serve food that tastes like something a two-year old mixed together while playing in a sandbox. I highly advise against this restaurant. Not only is the food terrible but the service is worse! I ordered the vegetable chow mein, Kung pao chicken, and sizzling beef. First, let me tell you about this so called "vegetable chow mein". It looked like a slimy green goop of broccoli and celery ONLY! There were no noodles whatsoever. When I asked the server that I wanted some noodles in the dish he said there were no returns and that I should have ordered the lo mein. As for the other two dishes, order them if you're in the mood for a nuclear bomb waiting to come out of your rear end. I instantly had major stomach issues!! If you're desperate, which I was since I was on the road traveling on Christmas Day, I would ONLY recommend the steamed rice just to feed the stomach. This is probably the best traditional Chinese/American food you're going to get in Pocatello or anywhere else around here for that matter. The best dish offered is their LoMein...always nicely prepared, always fresh tasting. Among the many restaurants there are here in the west, New Hong Kong rates a solid four stars - for good service, good range of menu offerings, and consistent food quality. read more

I almost never write reviews and would never imagine writing a bad review. I hope the management takes this as advice and does something to improve this establishment. The people seemed nice and friendly, but the food made me decide to write this. Except for the water and rice that I had, nothing tasted remotely edible and I was hungry enough to eat almost ANYTHING! It was obvious that the ingredients used were of the cheapest quality, and the outcome was just a disaster. I REALLY wanted this place to be good but everything I had from their chicken chow mein to the beef were unfortunately inedible! At the prices they charge, you should expect great quality food. Instead, you are left with a desire to have the cheapest mcdonalds item just to clean your pallet. I really hope they decide to improve their quality because I really don't see many people wanting to come within a mile of this place after trying it out the first time. Just because there aren't many Chinese food options in Pocatello DOES NOT mean you can get away by serving junk food. Please fix the quality of food and I just might in the future reconsider and come back. read more
