Soooo.... Back in…read moreMay, I heard a shout from the bathroom, and I discovered my wife had gone through the wall of our master bathroom's shower. Yep, turns out that when the geniuses that built our house back in the 80's, they decided to place tile onto drywall, instead of a waterproof material like backer board. So, with the ravages of time plus water, the wall of our shower eventually turned into wet cardboard with tile on it. So, anyway, I know my limitations, and replacing drywall, checking for rot and mold, etc etc is not in my wheelhouse. So, we started calling contractors and having people come out and take a look at the damage. One day, we were lamenting our fate at our kids daycare and the director of the center happened to mention that she had a great contractor, and that they had done extensive work at the daycare center and at her personal residence; she had been very pleased. We were definitely impressed with what we saw, and so we called them up. Dan Rosenblatt, the owner, came over to check out our house, and to inspect some of the issues we had encountered, not just with our bathroom. He took some time, was really easy to work with, and I was able to ask him about a range of solutions to our problems. A couple of days later, he sent us a really reasonable quote, with several options for our bathroom - we could either just replace and re-tile the bathroom, or demo everything out and turn it into an open shower, instead of the bath/shower combo that it currently was. He also gave us some quotes for fixing our chimney and our up and downstairs decks. The quotes were really reasonable, but what really sealed the deal for us was that Dan was just really a good guy; he didn't seem like he was shady or trying to sell us something. We decided to go for a full demo, and in the process, he made some suggestions on ways we could redesign the layout of the bathroom, it would cost a little bit more than the initial quote, but we decided we wanted to go for it. I'm really glad that we did, because we ended up with a beautiful bathroom and shower. Dan even went out to Home Depot to meet my wife and help her pick out tile - really cool of him to do that. Not only were Dan and his people very respectful of our home (making sure to lay down plastic and paper so nothing got damaged), but the people he subcontracted out to paint and install the shower glass were also very professional and did a great job. I was also really impressed with the level of communication, Dan did a great job letting me know what was going on and when I needed to be where. And now the classiest room in our house is our master bath - I'm currently in negotiations with my wife to move my office into there. I cannot say enough good things about Crestline builders. Seriously. If you need something done to your house - you only need go to these guys.
