West Towne Veterinary Center - Our monthly Cat's Night Out events are very popular!

    West Towne Veterinary Center

When I moved to the west side of Madison I was in need of a closer vet for my cat. Having had bad…read moreveterinary experiences before, I was a little fussy about who I wanted to care for my animal. I found West Towne Veterinary online and went to check it out. I got there right before closing and Dr. Ken was kind enough to take time out of his evening to tell me about their cat friendly practice and show me around the clinic, including the areas that they perform surgeries and teeth cleanings. Dr. Ken has now been daisy's vet for the past three years and I can't say enough about the exceptional care they have provided to her! From the friendly office staff, to getting her in for emergency appointments... they even have cat boarding and a cat gym! They also offer "cats night out" events where your cat can socialize with other cats and you can learn information on how to better care for your pet. And to top everything off, Dr. Ken is one of those veterinarians that paddle boards and home brews. Can't beat that-- I wouldn't go anywhere else!

My little girl needed a follow up for her shots and meds. He got greedy fast. Really greedy. When…read moreI questioned the estimate he said he might be able to lower the charges a little bit saying "I could lose my license if...". He didn't approve of my getting my kitty's meds from Chewy (drastically lower cost) or the local compounding pharmacy. Her initial prescription was ordered by his cooperating pharmacy on the east coast. 2 click pens were paid for (per my call to that pharmacy) but I was only given 1, yet paid for 2, later the 2nd was "given to me as a courtesy". The estimate was lowered from $610 to just under $200 for shots and weight, no exam. My little girl was howling and hissing after being manhandled. The building is deteriorating, walkway broken up with lots of debris, lots of scratches and chips in exam rooms, lots of overpriced "products" for sale, staff is harried and seemingly overwhelmed. We are moving on.

I would not recommend Spring Green Animal Hospital based on my experience…read more I brought my cat in twice because he was clearly not feeling well, and after spending nearly $800, I left with no answers and no improvement in his condition. The veterinarian seemed quick to jump to worst-case conclusions rather than exploring reasonable treatment options first. I was told that my cat's ear hematoma was a major concern and that surgical removal of part of his ear might be necessary. I was also encouraged to pursue hundreds of dollars in additional testing because the doctor was unsure what was causing his symptoms. Multiple times, I asked whether a trial course of antibiotics might be worth considering, and multiple times I was told it would not help. Feeling frustrated, I sought a second opinion from another veterinarian. Their assessment was completely different. They immediately told me the ear was not the primary concern, drew blood for testing, and started my cat on antibiotics and steroids while awaiting results. Within a short time, he was back to acting like his normal, happy self. What bothered me most was not just the cost, but the feeling that my concerns and questions were being dismissed. I felt rushed through appointments and as though asking questions about my cat's health was an inconvenience. To make matters worse, my parent was hung up on while trying to follow up about details from the appointment. I understand that veterinary medicine is not always straightforward and that doctors cannot guarantee outcomes. However, I expect thoughtful care, open communication, and a willingness to consider reasonable treatment options. That was not my experience here, so I would absolutely not recommend taking your pet here unless you would like to spend a bunch of money and have nothing to show for it.

Very happy with my experience at DVS. We recently moved to the area and have switched our dogs to…read morethis vet clinic. Both of our dogs have now had their appointments and I am SO PLEASED with our experiences at this clinic. Booking our appointments and becoming established with the clinic was so easy and the front desk staff was incredibly friendly. While at our appointments the staff was friendly and greeted us upon entry. We were immediately roomed to our exam room, which I thought was awesome because the dog that walked in ahead of us was elderly and clearly was not liking my dog being near. I think the immediate rooming is great for those pets that do not do well around others and everyone gets their privacy. We had Dr Milford and Dr Rathje as our vets and both were excellent. They took the time to make our dogs comfortable in the exam room and listened to our concerns. They also have an app which allows me to easily see when my dogs are new for their next vaccinations or see any appointments I have scheduled. We received text reminders prior to our appointment and a follow-up text afterwards to see how our pets were doing after receiving their vaccines. They also called with the results of the bloodwork the same day of our appointment. As stated in another review, they do take a "no show" down payment prior to your appointment. They are very transparent about this while scheduling your appointment and explain the fee well. The money they obtain goes towards the cost of your appointment, but if you do not show up for your appointment they keep the money. If you cancel you appointment in advance they do not charge you the no show fee. As someone who works in the healthcare field, I agree entirely with what they are doing. Many patients "no show" and that open spot costs money for the clinic/providers, plus it was valuable time where they could have been helping someone else. In other words, ignore the 1 star review from the other person. DVS is a 5 star facility and I would highly recommend them!
