Super popular Indian grocery store in a very heavily Indian populated area. The prices are amazingly great/low and the selections seem more than adequate. I'm pretty sure the prices are what gets this place so busy. And the place isn't that big, so the aisles are really narrow and jam up pretty good. Actually that is my main gripe for this place that it is hard to move around in there. And when you get to the check-out line, it forms single lined to about 3-4 registers, so the line always looks long and intimidating. But it does move fairly fast. But it is right at the entrance/exit and in the same room as the produce room, so over 25 people could easily be in this small space at a time. Now those that are used to old world cramming, this will seem fairly non-issue, but to me, this is more chaos than I prefer to sign up for. But I have gotten produce here as the prices are always super nice, as well as spices, lentils and basmati rice. These are my staples here. They have a good cold case with dairy (yogurt galore up in here), and paneer. A freezer with interesting ice cream flavors that I wanna try. I didn't see a meat counter but there may be prepackaged stuff somewhere that I haven't run into yet. Also a back area where non-food stuff is like incense, statues, and other exotic imports/decor. I'll still stop in every now and then as I'm often in this strip anyways. Still a nice resource. read more

The cleaners and most ethical Indian store in the bay area. Location- right in the intersection of Mowry and Blacow, this is also an easy stop for folks out of town driving on 880. Customer service- almost every Indian grocery store I know has cut corners after they established themselves. This one is an exception. They maintain high ethical standards in pricing and quality. A slightly stale produce is usually tossed out and not mixed up with fresh items and sold. Pricing- fairly priced, don't forget to check out the sales on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Crowd- it can get insanely crowded on weekends. Weekdays are your best bet if you prefer to stay away from chaos. Online- they also have their online portal and deliver. I have been going to this store for a very long time since it was Dana bazar. Never considered reviewing it. It usually has fresh Indian groceries and has always worked for us., today I went to get some specific pooja items for Ganesh Pooja. I bought a pedestal for lord Ganesha and noticed a slight damage ... the owner was very kind and helped find a good replacement in the back of the store and got a new one fixed. Really great spot to find affordable spices and herbs that you can't find at a generic store like Safeway. In large quantities as well! They also have a lot of Indian dishware which is awesome. Very disappointed with the manager's behavior. I'm a customer at this New India Bazaar for last 14 years and never had a problem. Manager's behavior was totally disrespectful. This store sends you weekly ad about on sale items. Today I checked this week's ad and noticed that 10 pounds bag of potatoes was on sale for 2.49 when last Friday I bought 10 pounds bag of potatoes for 6.98. I was surprised that it's a huge difference and checked back my receipt from last week where cashier Nisha had actually charged me for two bags of potatoes for a total of 6.98 when I had only bought one bag. I was gonna buy some more stuff so stopped by at the store and reported this mistake from last week to the manager in person who insisted why I did not report right away when I got the groceries and why I did not call. I told him that I did not notice it till just now when I was looking at the ad and compared the price and I was gonna stop by to get some stuff anyways so why I needed to call. He got very offended and told the cashier to give me a refund of 2.50 instead of 3.49 that they stole from me. I told him that they either need to refund me all or otherwise don't refund any if it's that big of a deal. He won't give me full refund and won't take 2.50 back either saying it's done now. I was there to tell them that they made a mistake but instead of taking a customers feedback he started explaining to me his business rudely. He started ignoring me by saying "I'm very busy at this time. We are done". It was not about 2-3 dollars. It was about accepting their mistake and taking customers feedback. I don't come here for the market, I come for the little food stand in the back! Everything is made togo, no tables to dine in. Chatpatta Corner is my favorite spot for chaat! It's CASH ONLY and run by an older Indian lady who's very friendly and helpful when it comes to making the snacks to your liking. She'll for sure customize it to your tastes! (spicy..with or without onions/yogurt/chick peas..etc) Every single snack is $5.50 plus tax and there's 18 different ones to choose from. I always get mine extra spicy! So far I've tried.. Pani Puri $5.50 Bhel Puri $5.50 Papri Chat $5.50 Dahi Sevpuri $5.50 (my fav!) -asked for spicy, less potatoes and less yogurt. There's so many layers of different flavors and textures. Everything is delicious and made to order..spicy, sweet, creamy and tangy! Their Pani Puri seems to be their most popular item. I tried it my first time coming there and it was a little awkward. They serve it piece by piece to order..so you stand there and they make you a piece and once you're done, they'll make you another. I was a little slow eating it because I wanted togo. Eventually the guy serving it placed all my Pani Puri in a bowl to take it togo with my other snacks.(I was backing him up.. lol) I guess it's the traditional way of eating pani puri back in India. This is an Indian Grocery Store with a Chaat/ Indian street food counter at the back. Complimentary tea is available for customers in the weekend. In my experience, the vegetables and fruits stocked at the entrance of the store is usually fresh. The space does feel a bit cramped with the billing counter, especially when the staff is refilling the produce as well. You will most of the staple Indian grocery items required for both south and North Indian cooking. But they do lack variety. The dairy products, batter, processed/ packaged items can be found in the refrigerators. I have noticed pre-made rotis/ parathas aren't reasonably fresh. I skip them these days. The Chaat counter makes reasonably good Chaat items but the hygiene factor seems lacking. Wearing gloves, availability of napkins (even on weekdays) and hand sanitizers would help. I try to make my trips here quick cause I find this store not to my liking in terms of cleanliness or organization. Lately, many Indian stores have raised prices on all beans, grains and other foods cause it's easy to do so and get away with it in the COVID times. Today, I saw once I was back in my car after shopping that I had been overcharged almost 1/6th of my bill. I headed back and didn't make a stink about it. However, neither did I get a 'sorry' nor the correct response to this situation. The lady (who is the often here on the counter) showed me her hand multiple times and asked me to CALM DOWN. I was calm the entire time!! Neither did I insinuate that they cheated on purpose nor did I tell them that they should do their job better - which they should!! So, here's a review to better show what I think of your ill-ways of cheating people who trust you. And yes of course - the easiest thing to do and your methodology of choice when caught is to ridicule your customer instead of accepting blame and showing some decency. I didn't stoop to your low-lying methods of taunts and I am glad I didn't. I believe you will meet your fate. read more

Ok first thing in an effort to meet the guidelines for covid, the guy in the front had a "thermometer " which he uses to take your temperature. Well my temp was 87 degrees- that seems pretty off. Second he has a spray bottle which he uses to spray your hands, he sprayed my hands as i asked him what was in it, turns out its Windex. Thats the same spray he used to spray the shopping carts. I suggest teaching the cashiers what social distancing means. Not the best way to prosper your business and keep customers loyal. This place is primarily an Indian grocery store. But it's quite popular for it's live street food stand that's inside. I've heard about this place from a lot of friends because they serve Pani Puri here as well. When I got here it doesn't look like the right place place from the outside because it just looks like a grocery store. But just walk inside and you'll see the stand in the back of the store. The Pani Puri is quite average and nothing great. But considering the effort it takes to cook this at home I would come back here for the ease of consumption. My husband is a big fan of Pani Puri in general and he was underwhelmed by it. I want to go back and try other items on the menu. As a grocery store I think this place is quite promising. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this store due to hygienic reasons. They are selling food products which are consumed by us and your health should be your #1 priority. The chaat counter at New India Bazaar is heavenly. Hands down the best and most authentic chaat you can find in the bay area. Minus one star because the aunty at the counter seems to come off as having a little bit of an attitude, which can turn off some customers, but the chaat is so good you shouldn't let that deter you. The counter is cash only, so make sure you have some on hand. The pani puri, bhel puri, papri chaat, and mix chaat is amazing. The dahi sevpuri is pretty good as well, however it does get soggy and nasty towards the end (this is to be expected). read more

My chiropractic doctor's clinic is right next door. Every time I finish my treatment by Dr. Faggiano, I come in this India grocery store for shopping and exploring Indian food. This store carries a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits at great prices, such as cucumber is 0.49 each, mint is 0.99 a bunch, taro is 1.49 per pound... I also like to try different kinds of nann. This review is purely based on the chaat corner inside the market. Wow! I was first introduced to pani puri by my Indian girlfriends about a year ago. They have brought me to many places around fremont and this chaat corner is by far the best one. Being that it is inside a market, this is not your typical sit down menu restaurant. If you have to compare, this is more like India street food. "Aunty" as we call the owner of the corner, is friendly and speaks enough english for you to understand. Her combination of the Pani, potatoe, chutney is perfectly balanced. Even the whole she punches with her thumb is the perfect size! As you look at this tiney hallow tasteless carb shell, you really are expecting nothing. Upon the pani puri hitting your mouth, there is a gush of sweet, sour, spice that rushes through your tongue and throat all in one bite! This review is specifically for the food stall in the back of the market called Chatpatta Corner. Hubby and I have been dreaming of coming back here ever since our friends introduced us to the delicious crispy pillows of flavor called Pani Puri years ago. We had our chance during our recent visit. We arrived about 30 minutes to closing time and there was still a long line. Despite the line, it moves pretty quickly. The Aunty who runs the stall knows our friends by name and was so nice and accommodating to us. The guy serving the Pani Puri was pretty quiet and straight to business. Everything is made to order. There were 4 of us so when it was time to do our rounds of Pani Puri (you get 6 total which are served individually right next to the stand) it goes by quickly. I'm amazed that the guy can keep all of our 4 orders straight and keep track of how many rounds. You can customize how spicy/sweet you want it and make adjustment per round. You place the entire thing in your mouth and bite down to release a flavor explosion and crispy crunchy texture combination that mixes well with the soupy contents. Definitely eat Pani Puri there and not to go because it'll not be as crispy. This time around we also tried the Papri Chat which reminded me of a version of street nachos and the Dahi Bhalla. I liked the Papri Chat more than the Dahi Bhalla, likely because it had a crispier texture profile. Nothing tops the Pani Puri though! There was no seal and it was lnly about half of what it supposed to be. The expiry date was fine though. We were so disapppointed. Here I had a perfect food. I sampled two $.50 samosas at 3pm on a Wednesday. I was hoping for the chaat, but the chaat person was on vacation. The staff was less than cheerful to me which is the expected for a small, cheap grocery of the East. The samosas, encased in a very unflattering warmer-case by the door, looked a bit less than fresh. But this is why they were so excellent. Some foods, I find - savory pastries among them - are at their best when allowed to degrade and age a bit. These that I ate quite clearly had done so. The thick inside-pinches of the dough had dried and hardened but still possessed a clean, semi-sweet taste. The inside-most layer of dough had been given, by the neglect of who knows how many hours, enough time to get soggy from the filling-moisture and then lightly re-toast, achieving a snap of caramelized bread flavor when bit. The spices of the gorgeous filling radiated into every corner of my mouth at once. I've revisited twice since, at noon and 3:30 on weekend days, and the samosas were weaker in flavor, and the inner dough less oily and less caramelized. Oh well. On my third visit the chaat counter was open. A few dozen vegetable flavors and textures for only $6, quite a delight. So far I haven't left this place less than stuffed. read more

Rava(sooji) quality is so horrible and this is not the first time this happened to me still I gave chance and kept trying this store as this is close by for us. I am extremely disappointed by the vegetables that I received in my order. 1. Bananas were rotten from sides (punctured) and I had to cut off half of it from side on the first day. 2. Mint leaves are so longer than normal And have less aroma 3. I asked for Persian cucumber because of small size and I got bigger ones and that also rotten. Had to throw more than 1 LB because they were rotten. If it's like this, I am certain I will have to drop out of your service. Please see how you can fix this issue of online delivery in this time. Scenario: Say you baked someone a delicious pie... and then you walk 2 feet from them, went to the bathroom without washing your hands, used foul language, and kicked their car, it will most likely be off-putting and make them think differently about you right? Even though you just gave them a pie? That's what I think about this store. They offer nice things. Amazing produce, homemade Chaat, etc. But the owner stands outside and spits, the store staff as well as patrons litter, there are nasty plants all over the sidewalk, and the shopping carts pile up here like no where I have EVER seen. I am not joking. It is as if it is customary to use a cart and blatantly leave it rolling away, against another persons car or ram it into another car and just leave it. We have been coming here for Pani puri for years! Still surprised they changed the name from daana bazaar... Honestly the quality of the Pani puri has gone down. When I used to ask for spicy, it would be so spicy that my eyes would water. Their medium was mild for me and their spicy was medium! I was a tad disappointed. It wasn't mind blowingly good either like Indian street food... And I know it used to be. I don't see any reason to drive all the way out to Fremont for this anymore, but for those Fremont residents craving chaat... It would be a good spot for u guys.
