So my first ever negative review to this store . I am kinda person who would not complaint about anything until it's really bad experience. I bought like 2 dozen of samosas from them for my guests and it turned out every single one of piece was stale and tasted like gone bad for days . I did not get time to go back to same day since I had guests staying over at my place so I called the store and they started arguing this can't be true because they sell the bestest and freshest samosas in the bay and people even buy 200 pieces and they never complained. So Sir even if I buy 2 pieces you are not supposed to sell old and stale goods for gods sake and give food poisoning to your customers . And please mind your tone and give you customers some respect that they trusted your service and in return you started screaming . The Worst Service Ever . read more

This tiny little gem has all the things you could possibly need to satisfy your craving for Indian snacks, or to restock your pantry to make Indian food. I don't cook Indian food often (I just don't have a chaperone nearby to teach me!!) but I am able to pick up spices and other items from here whenever I'm out. They really have everything and it's reasonably priced. There are specials from time to time to keep an eye out for the sale tags on the shelves. This is a super cramped store, so don't come in here expecting a specious Whole Foods. You will be sorely disappointed. This type of store reminds me of the kinds of stores you would find out in Taipei. Not a lot of space but the store owner wants to supply you with as many options as possible. I can get on board with that. The store is clean despite how cluttered it feels. Probably need to double check the dates on the items to make sure they didn't get forgotten in the big cram, but other than that, this store is pretty great! VERY CLEAN! (this matters a lot during covid19). Friendly staff, they're always helpful and knowledge about there products. If you need something that they don't have, they will try and get it for you if they can. They offer good quality products over the other stores in the area. Thanks Nilgiris and staff. This is a below average Indian grocery store with a few good things going in their favor. Location wise, this is slightly more approachable than Coconut Hill Indian grocery store but Coconut Hill staff's interaction with customers and quality of fresh produce compensate for their slightly inconvenient location. Nilgiri does have good Indian snacks like Methi Theplas and Dahi Vada and just for this reason I am giving them a couple of stars. Otherwise this store is not worth it. The lady who owns/ manages the store lacks general courtesy of interacting with customers. There are general parking spots which are open to public located at the rear entrance of the store. I had parked my car there to quickly jump in to get some snacks from Nilgiri. This lady had her car parked illegally in a fire lane herself and warned me to not park my car in a general spot. According to her, weekends are meant for unloading goods in Nilgiri and cars parked in spots like mine would hinder them. She warned me and said it was a courtesy from her side and next time my car can have a dent and she would not be responsible. On pointing out to her that the curb is not painted yellow, she said there was a board called employee parking previously and they do not have the time to put the board back up. She also cross questioned me if I would park in the back of 99 Ranch Market. It felt totally pointless for her to bother me for parking in a totally legal spot. I am going to continue parking my car there and keep video capture on to see if Nilgiri folks try to damage my car. This is especially annoying because this lady has seen me in her store multiple times and she knows that I frequently stop by the store. Even during this banter she could see that I had stuff purchased from her store in my hand. Do not know if she was having a bad day but this behavior is unacceptable especially in a customer facing business. There were a couple other accounts of poor customer service that I had ignored previously but this parking spot incident makes me call them out on all accounts. Every time I go to this store, they do not give me a receipt till I specifically ask for it. They have a separate printer under the front desk and they do not even print the receipt till I ask for it. Don't know if this is some tax evasion tactic but this is certainly suspicious behavior. Very small store and yet they tried to squeeze in everything possible. Literally only one person can go in each aisle. Anymore and it'll be a traffic jam. For total below $10, they only take cash so you are forced to buy additional items. Also, they've jacked up their prices as it's way more costly than what these cost at my usual store. Came here in desperation for ONE item as I didn't want to drive out of the way for my usual place. Walked out with TWO additional items SIMPLY bcuz the lady wouldn't let me use my credit card for under $10. I am very satisfied with the prices as I have tried different store but eventually end up paying more money in big stores and very little personal service. One of the worst stores in Fremont that just takes Indian customers for granted. No care for quality. Got a packet of chakli and didn't bother to check the date (my bad). It was manufactured in June and I bought them mid Sep. It tasted stale like hell. And this is the not the first time this happened. Unfortunately, I don't have the bill else I would have returned it. Don't these people get food safety inspectors or their kinds to monitor what they sell. A close contender in this segment is Apna Bazaar, all cheap, expired or near expiry products. Smaller Indian grocery located on that stretch of mission in Fremont that is essentially a way to get between 880 and 680. They have their own parking lot which is shared with the other businesses in the strip mall it's located in. While the lot has a bad case of parking lot driver syndrome, there will always be space for parking. This on the smaller side for a grocery so they may not have the whole range of options that a larger store would, yet they do carry just about everything a Indian kitchen will need. Slightly better organized then the then some other similar style groceries in the area. There's only one old school style register up front so if there are more then two folks checking out it forms a small que. They have do have a small but prosperous music/movie collection for rental or purchase. While the majority of the store is grocery, the two last two aisles on the north side (to left as you enter all the way along the wall) is the devotional/pots and pans section. Pro tip-bargain bin is all the way at very back of the store where the produce section meets the refrigerated goods. Items are half off or more, but be advised that the code dates will be very close to expiration, and the veggies should be cooked same day as they are likewise very close to the edge of usefulness. Sweets and fresh items-chapati's, parantha, samosa's etc. All in all this is a great store for the basics of Indian cookery. read more

It's a fairly small sized Indian grocery store, neatly maintained. Vegetables and fruits are stocked fresh most times. Helpful staff and the items are well arranged, easy and handy to pick. All Indian cooking masalas, spices, easy to cook/ ready to eat collection, refrigerated, frozen items and other food necessaries are available here. I've also spotted some of the seasonal Indian festive items during festival times. Quality wise, whatever I've purchased so far are good. I always double check the expiry date of any item before proceeding for billing and likewise once I found Chapati flour kept after the expiry date. So, be watchful while buying products. They also carry different varieties of locally made Indian snacks like sweets & savories. I've tried some of them and they are wonderful. Their pricing is reasonable and in fact, certain items costs much lesser than those found in other areas like San Jose/ Milpitas/ Sunnyvale. I bought Rangoli Sweet (White Burfi) and within less than 48 hours I saw fungus on the sweet. For all this time, the sweet was in refrigerator. When I reported to the store, I was told that at the time of sell, there was no fungus. So, it is not their problem. They can't guarantee freshness after the sweet leaves store. I went here the other day to get a few things - found a few more things that I wasn't really looking for :) They had dried rose leaf petals which was kind of cool. Gonna use it in my tea. They also had a really big curry leaf plant for only $14.99 - gonna pick this up the next time I'm there. The location is cramped, and they have a lot of inventory, which makes it even more cramped. The staff are somewhat friendly. But what really drove me to a 2 star review was when we bought from the store and opened one of the container, there were dead bugs in the food. I land there today to pick up the Samosas and they shamelessly tell me that they didn't bother to complete my order. No remorse no attempt to fix things. They didn't even tell me of their mistake when I called an hour in advance to verify that the Samosas were ready. I am taking my business away from nilgiris permanently. This store is small but i am surprised by how much stuff they have and the products are branded. The other day we got the best mangoes we tasted in US. The vegetables are fresh and they keep the stock fresh. Its a bit pricey but there is seldom any long queue like you see in any other stores. read more

Packed products are good, and bit expensive. Better quality than Bharat bazar. They moved next to cvs pharmacy and more closer to our home. It is small and may not have all the things wanted, but it is a start. As the other poster said, it is the trade off between driving longer or spending a bit more close to home. read more
