One of my favorite spots to come to on week days. Can't beat a food trip to Mitsuwa with some beers from New Japan Beer. The owner lady who's always there is always kind and amazing. She recommends new drinks to try this time we had the matcha beer and Okinawa citrus ale. Both were 10/10. She even drew a little picture on top with the matcha shot which was a very kind gesture. She even called us over as we finished eating to get another drink before she began to close up for the day. Will forever be a go to local spot! read more

She is a blast to talk to and friendly. Have frequented a few times and she remembers me each time. Glad to see it reopen and look forward to seeing the menu grow and days expand. This is the only place you can purchase and drink beer and spirits while enjoying a food court restaurant. You can purchase liquor and beer at Mitsuwa, but not allowed to open. DO NOT EAT HERE AND DO NOT ENGAGE IN CONVERSATION WITH THE OWNER. SHE HATES BABIES/KIDS. My husband and I decided to have dinner at Mistuwa with our 4 year old and 1 year old. We always love coming here because of good food and fun time just looking at all the authentic japanese food. We got lucky on a busy saturday night as we got a table immediately in front of New Japan Beer. Lines were extremely long at every food stall except for New Japan Beer. I can see the lady (probably owner) at the corner of my eye just looking extremely unhappy the whole time we sat down to eat dinner making us feel very uncomfortable and awkward. Towards the end of dinner, there were many people looking for tables. There was a young boy who waited patiently for our table. As my husband and I started to clean up, the lady from New Japan Beer started furiously yelling at my husband to clean up the mess that my 1 year old baby made while eating. First of all, what is it to you that my baby made a mess while eating? This isn't even your restaurant, it's A PUBLIC FOOD COURT. What kind of baby doesn't make a mess while eating? My husband asked if she has kids and she hesitates then says "yes, they didn't eat like that." TF? LIE MUCH? There are literally SO many families with kids eating at Mitsuwa but she decides to target on my family at this moment. Mind you, we haven't even finished cleaning up yet and I was already thinking of gathering all the food on the floor that my baby threw because I did feel bad for the boy who waited patiently for our table. We were honestly in shock at the rage she had in her eyes as if she was ready to murder us. I usually do not write reviews like this but the owner at New Japan crossed the line. I already clean up after my kids 3 meals a day every single day so what she said really triggered me. My husband said he would clean it up and asked her for napkins and she tosses the napkin and hits it all on his hand. You're lucky we're not reporting you for assault. She then starts to yell at me that she captured everything on camera at her store. This lady is so delusional, like YOU'RE THE ONE THAT THREW THE NAPKINS not the other way around. I don't know how bad of a day she was having for her to attack my husband and kids like this but her behavior is UNACCEPTABLE screaming with rage in front of so many people who are trying to have dinner with their families. It's so cool to be able to grab a beer after shopping at Mitsuwa. They have flights and pitchers of great tasting beer. The women who works there gave the best customer service ever! Glad they have a beer bar in Mitsuwa Market place~ Beer selection is small but they have unique beer floats and beer cocktails. We got the 16 oz Tropical IPA and 12 oz Calpico Beer Cocktail. Tropical IPA was fruity with good hoppy flavor. The beer cocktail was a little sweet, but had good yogurt flavor from the calpico. A little pricy for the beers here but great place to check out for Japanese beer connoisseurs. read more

After a late night and then an early afternoon trip to Mitsuwa Market Place, what do you do? You have a pitcher of Asahi from New Japan Beer to set things straight. If you're not familiar with Mitsuwa Market Place, it is a small Japanese grocery store with goods from Asian; similar to what you might find at the larger Chinese-based Ranch 99 Markets. However, the Mitsuwa Market Place has several food shops and cool small stores; one of which sells the best incense from Japan. During my most recent visit to the Mitsuwa Market Place, I discovered the New Japan Beer store. They had a few frozen beers, Asahi, and pitchers of expensive Japanese beer ($25-$29). Since I was in recovery mode and not interested in the frozen or high-priced offerings, I went with the pitcher of Asahi for the very reasonable price of $6.99. I was disappointed because the beer was not very cold. I should have stepped it up and went with a frozen variety perhaps. I pressed on and had a couple of cups of the Asahi. The mission was accomplished, but nothing about the experience or the beer was exceptional. read more

They don't have a huge selecton of Japanese beers, but they have the highlights, plus the really nice sweet potato lager that I ordered. I first had ones years ago and a Japan expo in Anaheim, and Have not really seen them since. I am sure they are available, but I usually go for sake instead of beer, so I don't notice it. Here, I decided to have one. Far more complex that a normal lager, and amber in color, it was quite nice. Located in the food court in the Mitsuwa market. You'll find Japanese beers, with the ones on draft being pretty much standard happy hour pricing at other places. Word to the wise, don't mess with the small pour. The wife thought she'd be content with it, but it's literally a sample cup's worth. Just grab a sample of the beers, figure out which one you like, and then go for the regular 16 oz pour. So I got the Frozen Beer which didn't end up tasting like what I had hoped, but I guess it makes sense once you actually drink it. The drink is basically regular beer on the bottom with a frozen slushee bit on top. The slushee part though taste just like the foam on top of the beer except it is somewhat frozen. It kind of takes a lot away from the beer though cause it basically means you're drinking a chunk of foam with the beer, not something all that great. At about $5 it wasn't too bad price wise, but it really wasn't worth it, outside of trying the beer with frozen froth on top. I hadn't been in a while, so imagine my amazement during my last visit to Mitsuwa for lunch when I spied a giant "BEER" sign on the edge of the food court. "Gosh, beer samples," I thought to myself as I walked ever closer. No, it was a permanent looking counter space setup there. Ok, so maybe some kind of advertising booth for beer or something where they sneakily try to sell you something else. Nope! It was a bona fide beer and sake place that was open for business and ready to sell you whatever your eager refreshment-deprived self wanted!! w00t! w00t!!! I always wanted to try the frozen Kirin so when I saw that they had it here I had to get it. Oh god. Never get this. It was so nasty. The frozen "icing" on top just tastes like beer foam. Cool that you can drink a beer along with your meal in this food court now! I opted for the Coedo Beniaka; easily the most interesting thing on tap at the time. It's brewed with sweet potato and though I didn't detect any of that, it was enjoyable. It would be nicer if it came in a glass rather than a plastic cup, but don't forget that this is just a food court. At first I thought I should have gotten something lighter to go with my ramen from Santouka, but this went well with the strong taste of spicy miso. They all tasted pretty good and we decided to try out light Hefeweizen style...they had some interesting sakes I might try nice time!
