Nothing special... we ate here because my parents decided to find the nearest mall area and get some necessities for the weekend. The service was okay. Food was pretty expensive for what we got, and didn't really taste memorable or particularly good. The jun was pretty much all breading and needed a lot of sauce to taste like anything. Okay so I'm not a fan of the restaurant but to me, they have really good meat jun, don't hate on me :p The restaurant itself has booth seats with a gyu-kaku style table in the middle, but I haven't seen it being used ever. They have the typical Korean BBQ menu and they're reasonably priced. Their portions are pretty awesome. I can finish a mini, but I always share or take home left-overs if I get the regular plate. Each plate comes with rice, bean sprouts, cabbage and macaroni salad. They bring out seaweed soup and kimchee as an appetizer while you wait for your food. I just really love their meat jun, Meat is tender and marinated, perfect amount of egg, and the sauce is bomb! It's my fave meat jun sauce. Haven't found a place on Oahu with the same kind of sauce. I'd give this place more stars but I just don't dig the overall restaurant. The tables are a little sticky and just doesn't feel clean. From what I remember they were always low on staff so it takes awhile to get your water refilled or if you need anything else. That aside, I'd still come back for the meat jun. read more

This place has upped their game, as their kalbi is even better than before. But it is the improvements of the sides that are really noteworthy. All of the pickled vegetables taste like home made. Even the rice is made correctly. I cannot say any more but totally positive and well worth the $$ for the kalbi. read more

Huge port0ions, many selctions, shitty wait staff. They are known for their kalbi, bbq chciken, and meat jhun. hte meat jhun sauce is a winner! i never leave without a to go container and extra sauce! and yes, like other yelpers, the seating isn't the best. I'm 4'10 so i can barely reach the table when i sit. But it is kimchee #9, order, eat, and leave full. nothing more then that- forget the experience. read more

i don't know about the dine in part as we ordered take out - but the valet guys at the marriott told us about this joint in the mall - they weren't kidding, as my fiance would say - the Korean BBQ (short ribs) were the bomb! i thought the fried mandoo was ok and so was the chicken, but just ok. the kalbi ribs were tasty, but they always are. they get 3 stars because when i ordered take out, i always order NO mac (macaroni salad with mayo) and ALL rice - and every respectable lunch plate place did so, no stress... but as my waitress was filling my to go containers - the grumpy cook yelled at her (i understand tagalog and japanese) and basically told her that she had to charge me an extra $4 for all rice. dude, it's just rice. she waved him off and told him she would ring me up, but never did. i tipped her well as i told her i knew what happened, she smiled, and i flipped off the grumpy old a$$ cook. read more

This place was good. Sort of cheap ambiance, service was on the slow side, not overly friendly but not rude. But the food was good. I had a grilled chicken dish and my step dad had the thinly sliced steak, breaded and fried. I tried it and it was delicious. The chicken was moist and tender, really good. Both came with rice. The food here is pretty tasty. They start you off with a little bowl of broth w/ seaweed and some kimchee. I shared the bi bim noodles w/ chicken with my friend. It was plenty to fill us up. I was in the mood for spicy so I asked for hot sauce. They had 2 different kinds of hot sauce but they were both NOT spicy at all. we went to kimchee no. 9 for dinner with my parents and siblings. when we got there it was kinda empty, but there was only one waitress. she didn't seem to care and was moving at a slow pace. she doesn't take orders, so she had to send the owner to take the order. as we waited for our order to come out, it started to get busy. with just the two owners and one waitress working, it seemed like they couldn't keep up. our food finally came out and the one thing that didn't change was the portion they give. they give a lot for the price. i always order the same, which is the chicken fried rice. unfortunately, it tasted different and not the same as before. while we were eating the owner came by and saw our cups needed to be refilled, but she never came back to refill our cups. after about 15 - 20 mins. of waiting no one came to refill, so my brother had to stand up and ask for water. read more

A little tough to find at the mall, the entrance is around the corner from the food court area, facing the parking lot. Very old interior, looks like it was there before the mall itself. The Bi Bim Bap with chicken hit the spot after a morning of diving with Seasport Divers, but as others have noted, it's a little pricey for Korean BBQ. It's a typical Hawaii plate lunch diner that offers basic Korean, Japanese, and Chinese entrees, based on their interpretation. It's quite obvious from the mixed menu posted at their front door and the blue-collar decor. Customers expecting them to be as good as a classic Korean, Japanese or Chinese restaurant, probably will be disappointed. Although, the decor does look a little Chinese-restaurant-like. I can't speak to the personality of the owners and staff, since we ordered to-go. But, the Korean woman and Japanese man that took and handed us our order were pleasant. We thought we finally found a place on the island that had real ramen as it was listed on the menu. One of many places we have tried the past two weeks. We are disappointed. The ramen was doctored up packaged instant (boil for 3 minutes type). My spouse tried to enjoy it saying it was like seeing an old friend. I had the dinner special of one cold fried mandoo, Mac with too much mayo, fatty Kalbi beef, almost bookmark thin cold beef katsu and cabbage garnish. I am a Korean who grew up with my parents' Korean cooking, so I know Korean food. My friend and I ate here during our visit to Kauai. We ordered kimchi stew and squid pan fry. The price was reasonable considering that this is Kauai, and the food tasted like it should. The only thing missing was a variety of ban-chan (side dishes). A typical Korean restaurant serves about 5 ban-chan but here we only got three (seaweed soup and 2 types of kimchi). Otherwise no complaints. We would come back here. read more

I knew there was a Kimchee I Restaurant. I knew there was a Kimchee II Restaurant. I knew there was a Kimchee III Restaurant. Then I came here to Kimchee 9 Restaurant in Kauai at the Kukui Grove Shopping Center... And I thought...what the hell? There are 8 other Kimchee Restaurants somewhere? I've actually never been to any other Kimchee Restaurant, so I was hoping this would be good since they have so many of them. My fellow Kauai friends had told me that this was a pretty good place, and that they had pretty good Korean food. I decided to try their meat jun plate, since meat jun is probably my favorite plate to have at any simple Korean restaurant. When I received the food, I thought it was average. The texture was average and the flavor was rather just average. The meat wasn't super tender and the egg batter was on the dry-er side. I think if I hadn't been so spoiled because of the awesome meat jun they serve at certain restaurants on Oahu, I would actually kinda really enjoy the meat jun here. The service was decent, and the only thing I thought was a bit weird was that the people working here...aren't Korean! I always thought that Kimchee Restaurant(s) were family-owned restaurants, so...it was a bit shocking that the servers and cashier weren't Korean. Maybe all the chefs are, though! The food here is decently priced for the amount you get, however, the people on Kauai may be missing out on bomb Korean food. Perhaps a Kyung's Seafood II or Million Restaurant II needs to be built there? read more

I've had the worse service here. We sat on a table that still had the previous customers dinner dishes and was given menus. We were then given the broth which was cold and kimchee without utensils. Waited 10 minutes for utensils. Then 20 minutes to finally order. Our water came in dirty cups. The waitress had a t shirt and baggy shorts that looked like pajamas. There were six of us. We were short a water, a bowl of rice and sauce. It took almost 50 minutes to finally get our food. The portions were small but the food was good. Unfortunately, three of the six of us, the three who had the same dish ended up with the worse tummy aches and diarrhea. May have been food poisoning. Worse experience ever and I've eaten here before and never had this happen, very disappointed. read more

when i say that i eat here about 3-4 days a week, i'm not lying. i literally eat here that often. the fried mandoo plate is amazing. it's light, it's crispy, its filled with pork and veggies and leaves you feeling nicely satisfied. portion sizes are good, the kimchee pickeled veggies and soup (if you eat inside) are a great addition to an already awesome meal. not a fan of mandoo, try the meat jun, bi bim bop and/or the lunch/dinner special and you'll be glad you did. read more

We went on a Thursday night and there was a huge party of about 18 that got seated right before us. Which meant our service and food turn around was slow. We even bussed our own waters and tea refills while we waited. I wanted to get something healthier than just meat and rice so went with a cold noodle salad with grilled chicken-- it was blah, would not get that again. The rest of our group went with the more regular kalbi, tempura, grilled chicken, mandoo and they seemed to like what they ordered. I had heard mostly good things about the restaurant, so took my Mother for lunch. The food was good, I had the Jun meat and portions was generous for ordering the small plate.. Why I give a not so good rating is that the place was very dirty and dingy. I can honestly say it was the dirtiest restaurant I ever ate at, outside of India. Just ate at this restaurant this week while vacationing there from outer island. The food and service was not good. The waitress hardly spoke to us at all. She didn't speak to us when we entered, when she seated us, when we ordered. She never checked on us after we got our food and didn't even say bye or thank you. The food was not good either. We got the chicken and fish katsu. Worst katsu I ever had. It was fatty and oily. The place was dirty and run down. Won't ever go here again. Portions here are huge! Mini plate looked like it was a mistake on the order until I saw one that was a regular plate! I always order the BBQ mixed plate and I'll only eat the kalbi bean sprouts and Mac salad, everything else is pretty much saved for leftovers (use it to put in fried rice;p) my niece always orders her chix katsu and I love that sauce ask for extra before we leave cause that too I use for my fried rice! Service is okay. I know the owners and they are pretty quiet except when shouting out orders or calling the other employees. The servers some dont speak english that well or basically are either deaf or for one particular waitress a real snob. (thank goodness she doesnt work there anymore) The middle seating section is basically the gossip area. Just be aware what and who you're talking about and how loud, you may surprise the table on the other side of the curtain about your conversation! Just saying! The wait time if the restaurant is full is about 10-15 min. Orders are quick depending on the day/night you go sometimes its only one server. But overall I do like it. This was a splendid restaurant to dine at for the weekend :) The price is average ($13-$40) depending on how big of a plate you want. But i love how the small portions aren't really small (More like medium-large for some dishes). I didnt really expect much because its one of the newer Kimchee's (kimchee #1 being the oldest i presume lol) but i still feel it needs to grow. Btw their sauces are like hand-made and sooo delicious.. will come again! read more

Kimchee #9 Restaurant in the Kukui Grove Shopping Center is one of my favorite places to get Meat Jun and BBQ chicken from. I also really enjoy their nori (seaweed) soup that comes complimentary if you sit and eat along with a small portion of kim chee and a little bit of dried daikon (or at least that's what my guess is). I have always been a fan of Kalena's meat jun but somehow Kimchee #9 just tastes better. The outside is perfectly cooked and taste's exceptional, not mushy like Kalena's. The barbeque chicken is almost always cooked perfectly with a little bit of charring on the edges. The downer of the place is that the service is terrible. The last few times I have been there, they never came back to check how the food was or to check if we needed a refill on our water, etc. I specifically remember one time when they brought our food to the table and left without providing us with silverware. Still, because the food is yummy, I keep going back. The food is very filling and satisfying to my tastebuds... and that is why I am a fan. read more
