We came to Harley's after my boyfriend visited a year ago and had great things to say about the tinono. For dinner, we tried the bbq beef ribs and broiled Mahi Mahi Cajun style. I enjoyed the Mahi Mahi which was cooked well, pretty tender and had a nice kick from the Cajun spice. The beef rib was a bit disappointing though as it was covered in sauce and the sauce was too sweet for our tastes. Also the beef rib is a beef back rib when we thought it would be a meatier Dino rib/short rib cut. It was still pretty tasty but didn't have much meat on the bones. So we heard of this place from a person at one of our job site so we definitely had to try in when we were in Kauai. That place was nice and simple there's a window that you walk up to and order. They have tables on the outside so you can sit and eat which we did that. I had the pork belly tinono style with both sauces one sauce was spicy and the other one kind of tastes like lomo salmon. Hole in the wall Hawaiian bbq place, tucked in between buildings. Recommend to me by my brother and it didn't disappoint. You order at the window and wait for your food, they have a few outside tables or you can take it to go. No public restrooms. I think they have the best kalbi on the island. Does a review need more than that? I definitely suggest calling in your order as they are popular and cooking to order, so if you don't have time to spare, call it in! They closed up the area where you could sit down to eat (during Covid) so now it's take out only. The pork tinono is good too, and my friend who got their burger said it was good. This was bookmarked for our last Kauai trip. We've been to Kauai several times so it was my mission for our last trip to try places we've never been during our past trips. I ordered sautéed mahi mahi with white rice and hubby ordered bbq beef ribs with fries. My fish was yummy and piping hot. Loved the mushroom cream sauce with capers. Hubby's ribs were ok, a bit on the sweet side. We were comparing it to Matiki's from back home in Cali and it's not a fair comparison. Nevertheless, we were not very impressed. I did enjoy the fries, though. My fish was 4 stars and hubby said his ribs were 3 stars for a total of 3.5 stars. The service was meh. The cashier wasn't the friendliest. I'm Asian so that doesn't deter me if food is worth it, but their famous ribs were meh, too. So, I'm rounding down to 3. It's a shack and there are a few tables outside. We were able to snag a table. I have tried coming here for the last FOUR TRIPS. I found this place on my very first trip to Kauai - it said it was open, online - but it wasn't. I came back several more times - and each time, years apart - somehow they were unexpectedly closed. BUT I FINALLY GOT IT! Man, oh man. Let me tell you it was absolutely worth the wait and the hype. We ordered the beef rib, pork ribs and tinono with spicy shoyu. Absolutely delicious. ALL OF IT. No photo of my tinono because I scarfed it down. For the comments regarding service and claiming the staff is rude - no they are not. This is a road side bbq spot - not a sit down, butter you up restaurant. They are busy and don't have time to chat it up with you. Both visits were perfectly acceptable in terms of service - I even joked around with the staff on my first visit and never caught an ounce of rudeness from anyone. The location is in an industrial area and had plenty of parking , but be mindful that are a lot of trucks in the area and might get pinned in like we did. I hate to give this place just three stars but at $18 for the rib plate the ribs were just OK I also ordered rice and Mac salad but I received fries and Mac salad when I opened my plate 15 minutes away and I didn't want to drive all the way back. Another note on the fries they were nothing to write home about they seem like just basic frozen french fries lacking any flavor or character. I was aware of this because I noticed the signage while ordering but it's still a bit frustrating to pay almost 4% to use a credit card. Most definitely worth the drive where ever you are on island.. The beef ribs were mackin, crispy fries and the barbecue sauce was the perfect mash of sweet and tangy with just enough vinegar. The parking lot is rather small so you're likely to have to park on the street. Walk on up to the counter window and order yourself the Pork Belly Tinono plate, an absolute must have at Harley's. Picture tender marinated and charred pork belly dripping with spicy shoyu vinegar. Yessssss Brotha! The tinono is so flavorful and nothing like we have back home so I ordered it every single time. My lady absolutely loved it as well as she also ordered it every time. The plate comes with fresh white rice and a scoop of delicious, tuna-free, mac salad. Another must have from Harley's are the Kalbi ribs! This is not your typical 3 bone slab of "barely there" paper-thin meat like we get back at home. The Kalbis here are like little one bone steaks, thick , juicy, and bursting with flavor from a long days marinating. Take-out is great, but if you're into grubbin'down as soon as you get your meal, there are 5 or so bench tables for you to enjoy. I'm pretty sure this is a family owned and operated establishment as we pretty much saw the same awesome crew everyday. Would definitely be able to feed someone with a big appetite. Meat for the Tinono was slightly on the over cook side for my preference BUT the onion/tomato kept each bite moist plus I LOVE Tinono!!
