Booked a day at the spa for my sister and I. Pros: Sandra was amazing with our massages. She knew exactly how to apply the pressure to work through tough spots without leaving me sore or bruised. Laurie did my facial and she was so sweet and very knowledgeable. She listened to me and adjusted my treatment to help reduce my redness afterwards. My sister got her eyebrows waxed and Ali was so meticulous with them. She is a waxing rockstar. My sister also enjoyed her facial by Ali. At not point did we feel rushed and the staff was okay with us adjusting which treatments we wanted. Cons: The manicure and pedicures were standard/average. The seasonal makeup was not our style. Tony the hairdresser hands trembled throughout my haircut, luckily I have wavy hair and just got a trim. My hair was blow dryed but not styled, same for my sister. Amazing experience. Upon arrival for my first visit, though it was very busy they knew who I was and greeted me by name as if I were a regular, the service was white glove from the moment I stepped in the door. I highly recommend Lucine, she gave me an amazing manicure and will now be my go-to manicurist. I would definitely recommend asking for her. $25 for a basic manicure, you cannot beat that. I was given the full day spa as a gift. My day was absolutely fabulous! Throughout all of the services I was greeted and made to feel welcome and special. I had a spa day booked at NM this spring. This is the description of the package straight from the SPA website: Upon arriving at Nicholas Michaels, your day will begin when you slip into your robe and slippers, as a warm healing foot bath and herbal tea are being prepared. Your Spa Treatments commence with Nicholas Michaels Signature Services to include massage, facial, manicure, Paraffin Hand Treatment and Renewal Pedicure. A light refreshment will then be served. Next stop will be our Hair Salon for a shampoo, cut, and style. Conclude your day with a fresh Seasonal Makeup. The experience started off great but ended horribly! It started with a courteous front desk person greeting me and making sure I was comfortable while waiting. The massage was fantastic. The masseuse got the pressure right and helped loosen up my trap and rhomboid muscles. The facial was great as well. The products used were good and I felt relaxed and rejuvenated. The mani-pedi followed which was great as well. I know of very few nail technicians who are meticulous about trimming cuticles without going too deep! NM has one of them if not more. The spa manager offered me fruits and tea which was wonderful. This was followed by hair, which was supposed to be with a female hairdresser but ended up being setup with a guy who goes by the name of Tony. To begin with he mentioned a few times how thick my hair was and the comment did not seem as a compliment by the tone. FYI; when I called to confirm the appointment, the one thing I repeated a few times to the receptionist was that the hairdresser needs to be comfortable with long and thick hair. She assured me that I would be setup with a good fit. Clearly Tony was not excited by what he had to work with. I showed him a pic of the hairstyle that I was looking for. His hands trembled the whole time he cut my hair. I have never had a hairdresser with unsteady hands work on me. I let that go until the point he blow dried my hair. He was not gentle with my hair and more than a few times I visibly cringed since the dryer was at high and very close to my scalp. There were no apologies and I figured he'd offer his 'thick hair' excuse if I said anything at that point! After blowdyring he tells me I am all set and asked me how it looked. My hair was puffed out, dry and had not been styled at all. I asked him politely that isn't hairstyle part of the spa package. He immediately retorted back saying ' Do you expect me to know what you paid for?' I was taken aback by the nasty retort and mentioned that I had the spa package which had style included. I told him that the haircut after just blow dry looked nothing like the pic I showed. At this point, he raised his voice and accused me of insulting his 'work' and threatened to call the manager. I calmly clarified that there was no insult in my response and encouraged him to proceed with engaging the manager. I explained the situation to the spa manager who was appalled by his behavior. However she never asked him to apologize to me for disrespecting a customer and being so vile. Tony moved on to his next customer without a drop of remorse for his behavior. BTW; This was witnessed by other customers who seemed equally dazed by the guy's outburst. The manager asked another employee to style my hair. This was followed by light makeup. I was escorted out and provided the final bill- and a bunch of envelopes for gratuities....... I never anticipated that a place like NM would hire and retain a person who clearly has anger management issues, has unsteady hands and has no EQ what so ever. Even worse, they took no action to confront the employee and and ensure this never happens again. Clearly there is no consequence/repercussions for unruly behavior towards customers at this place. I doubt if this has been the first occurrence which has gone unaddressed. For all the hype that it is worth, the place does not stand up to very basic principles of customer service- treat everyone with respect and empathy. Any business can do fine when things go well. Only few of those are adept to deal with situations like these and take a stance on what they actually stand for. Unfortunately NM is not one of them. read more

No what it used to be. The spa is clean but furnishings are getting a little threadworn. This salon used to be the best place to go and was updated every few years. Always was top quality service, staff and used top quality products. Not so much anymore. My nail technician was very messy, toes not well done. She did not speak in the two hours I had my toes and nails done. I was never offered coffee, tea or water which was the not the case previously. Nail colours and now in numbered bottles so possibly refilled form a second rate product!! If I want that service I will go to one of the chain nail spots. So unfortunate because this used to be a truly exceptional spa, not anymore. I hope the new owner pay attention to these reviews because it would be such a shame to let this establish fall apart. read more

I highly recommend gel and regular nail services with Gaston. I just want to highlight that Gaston is very professional and friendly and I would like to commend him for the quality of his work. I typically get gel manicures and classic pedicures. Firstly, Gaston is very professional and friendly, which are two great customer service criteria that are important to me. He is very considerate of my opinion and always makes sure I am happy with the color and polish throughout the process. I also want to mention, that many times, he helps recommend color choices that compliment my skin tone and for special occasions. The actual manicure and pedicure services are immaculate. My nails and cuticles are shaped, filed and cleaned pristinely. Gaston is very thorough and puts a lot of care in his work. I'm always very impressed with the manicure and pedicure even before any polish application. My final point I want to make is the quality of the polish application by Gaston is outstanding. It looks amazing and actually lasts much longer than expected. I've had my nails done many times in my lifetime, but after my first appointment with Gaston, I will never go to anyone else for any nail service. Gaston is truly an asset at Nicholas Michaels Spa. My husband gave me a gift certificate a year ago May and I just got around to using it yesterday. We are celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary at a very nice hotel in Western MA so I used this occasion to book a spa morning which included massage, spa manicure and pedicure, hair washed and styled and makeup application. During crazy Covid time, I was a little apprehensive about spending the morning there yet I have to say it was one of the best decisions that I have made in 2020. I've heard that the best and the most talented stylist are found at Nicholas Michaels. As far as the talent I cant disagree, but I see a pattern in yelps as far as customer service. My story: I'm a mother of four and I work full time M-F. I booked a color correction and a hair cut, so I thought. I waited for 4 weeks with anticipation . The stylist was sweet and I have to say talented. The color took her longer than expected. She did 3 balances on my hair. Without a word my hair was in a sink for an hour and with every wash I was being charged...unknowingly. Communication would have been nice. Secondly, The stylist tells me she doesn't have time to cut my hair and they should have booked it as a color correction. I told her not to blow dry it or style it because a hair cut was important to me.She insisted to blow dry and no hair cut. I have been living with bad color and split ends, just to have my hair corrected at this salon. I was very clear while booking this apt that it was a color correction and a cut. The owner was across from us still working on his client when I left with good color, bad split ends and 275$ later. I called back to see if they charged me for the hair cut because as stated above I was surprised and unaware that the stylist felt like she needed to do 3 balances. I also informed the salon that I felt it was bad costumer service to have someone leave with a bad hair cut because YOUR salon booked the apt wrong. I held off on Yelp because I wanted to speak with someone and give them a chance to correct what I feel was bad costumer service. I explained to this "someone" that I work in costumer service and I would never leave a pt in need because they ran past there apt time. I I cheered about this apt, my whole office was aware, all of my friends, and several patients. To tell them that this was not rectified, I left a hot mess and not only that, but they had no sympathy it is disappointing. There were no apologies, only an excuses and blame, and they offered to book me a hair cut. Very disappointed. They could have made this right with i simple apology for wrongfully booking it, not stay late to correct it, and giving me a complementary a hair cut. Spa-like atmosphere non existent - from the unwelcoming front desk check in/out experience; loud music during my session; plastic glassware with warm water (possibly direct from the tap); and zero spa fragrance to name just a few. Really unhappy with the customer service here. They don't return phone calls, why bother asking people to leave a message if you are not going to return phone calls? They Hire inexpirenced Colorists leaving the customer to suffer the consequences of RE Do's and hair falling out from all the mistakes and necessary fixing. It's hard to relax upstairs with one stylist who is basically Yelling and laughing so loudly with every single client it seems like old home week. It's not a spa atmosphere at all. Yesterday was supposed to be a celebration of my mom and my birthday. We attempted to book 4 packages for the "afternoon of pleasure" and here's what our experiences were. Before I complain a lot let me say that I do not blame any of the estheticians, stylists ect as its not their fault. They were all completely pleasant, fun to talk to, and nice people. However, when you pay a lot of money for a spa day, you expect to feel prioritized and pampered. We all left yesterday not feeling like that. The first negative experience I had was booking with the coordinator, who was difficult to get in contact with. She seemed alright over the phone but after our day, she was rude to most of the people in our party and you could see the expression on her face was sour the entire day. I don't know if she disliked my family, or whatever but it was extremely off-putting- fake it girl, your JOB is to be pleasant, optimistic and accommodating. The first services of the day ran smoothly- the massages, but most of the services afterwards did not. I was coupled with my sister and my mom was coupled with my aunt. My sister and I had massages at the same time, and the next service- nails, were delayed because it seemed they overbooked for other people.. The ladies that did the nails were nice. However, my sister had only one hand done and the person who was doing her shampoo and blow dry had her go and get her hair done. I thought that was extremely unprofessional, and her nails smudged because they weren't dry when she was whisked away mid service. The shampoo and blow dryers were nice as well but I think it was really not worth it. I have straight hair, but after my shampoo and blow dry I looked the same as I had when I walked in without a shower... There was no time spent and when I was moved to my make up I felt the back of my head was still wet. Meanwhile my mom had to wait 45 minutes for her nails when she was supposed to be in line with my aunt (because I guess the lady who was doing her nails had to do facials or something), and told to have a snack on her own.. um so awkward.. no thanks...And consequently she was like an hour behind everyone else. The make up artist was so sweet as well and we had a lot of fun with her, however she had two waxing apts scheduled in between our make up applications which was also pretty strange. Now I know they are a busy salon, but I felt like the coordination was terrible, the coordinator was extremely unpleasant, and we felt like a burden to her rather than people she wanted to make a priority. I will be taking services elsewhere next time for sure. That being said, all of the masseuse, nail artists, hair stylists and make up artists were very sweet, but extremely overbooked. read more

I was encouraged to try this place for my bridal hair and makeup trials because it was close to where I was getting married. I got the exact opposite of what I wanted for both. Basically the hairdresser shot down the inspiration photos I had brought with me and was requesting for her to recreate because, according to her, they weren't as "in-style" as what she was suggesting for me. A hairdresser next to her came over and also declared that too. They both successfully talked me out of what I really wanted, which was a clean, tight updo. For an extremely expensive hair trial, I wound up with a messy poof at the crown of my head and loosely tied back ends at the nape of my neck. Wearing the look around, it was only in a matter of a few hours that several bobby pins had slipped off and the ends of my hair were sticking out for the rest of the day. The look was so flimsy I had to pull out my veil because I was afraid the updo would fall apart. "Maybe" this was an in-style look, but it was certainly a look that I did NOT want! The makeup was nothing to write home about either. I was having a mid-June outdoor wedding and I wanted a warm, bright face; the makeup artist instead washed my face out with a pale base, and topped it off with dark vampire lips and heavily lined eyes. While the receptionist was very nice, I was extremely disappointed and went to my regular hair and makeup salon instead. It may had been a little out of the way from my wedding venue, but I can smile at wedding day photos of myself knowing that I got the look I wanted (and at a far more comparable price). If you are interested in what I looked like I attached some photos. Please disregard the fear, loathing and apprehension in my face; I was six weeks away from getting married and while I was desperately trying to like this look (considering how much cash that had been shelled out for it) it just wasn't working for me. However, if you look at the photos and don't mind what you see, then don't let them stop you from trying this place. Just don't make the same mistake I made and be absolutely sure you get what you precisely want. Don't let the stylists there talk you out of a look you are striving for. Your time and money is too valuable for that. read more

I'm truly surprised by the bad reviews. I was planning a "thank you" gift extravaganza day for my sister, and did my yelp homework ahead of time, so I immediately ruled this place out when I was looking for a spa that would fit in our route for the day. When they ended up being the only one that would fit us in for the time slot I needed, I reconsidered. And I'm glad I did. Facial: 5 stars. I'm a little bit of a spa addict, so I've had a few, and this ranks among the best ever. Tish was my clinician and she did an excellent job. Super relaxing and great results. Also, she didn't do the "hard sell" on the products she used, which is usually a pet peeve of mine. Decor: 5 stars. Really, really beautiful. The treatment rooms are nice and cozy, but it's the waiting areas that set this place apart. Bamboo floors and white wood everywhere, super clean and tastefully decorated. Loved every detail. Staff: 5 stars. Tish was great, and the women at the front desk were all very friendly and non-snobby. While I was waiting for my sister in the lobby, someone's kid came in and was immediately greeted with big hugs and kisses by the staff. I liked that. My only gripe about this place is the soundproofing. There were a few times during my treatment that I could hear a very loud woman talking, either from an adjoining room or above (I think the hair salon is on the 2nd floor). But I'm sticking with my five stars because it was THAT good... and if someone shuts that lady up, they'd be golden. read more

I just moved to the area and was really craving a great massage... As a general rule, I prefer male therapists over female therapists because they're able to use their strength to really work through tight muscles, so was pleased when I called and they had a male therapist, Steve I booked with Steve and when I arrived he talked with me about where I might have stress and tension in my body so that he could pay particular attention to those areas for me. As someone who works on people as an esthetician and is also a mother of a very active 5 year old my trouble areas are basically upper/lower back, glutes and legs. The massage was deep and truly healing, not like those regular Spa-style Swedish massages that leave you longing for something more... That first massage left me feeling so relaxed and less tense than I have felt in a very long time. I booked another appointment with Steve before I left and CANNOT WAIT to go see him again. Serenity Facial: $50 "Designed for the client on the go. This quick, yet highly effective treatment will revitalize your skin in just 30 minutes. Have your pores deep cleansed and extracted, or enjoy a rejuvenating facial massage. Either way, you'll experience a treatment that leaves your skin feeling smooth and revitalized." This facial was everything that it claims to be, nothing more nothing less, which is exactly what I was looking for. I called in same day and got a quick appointment which was fantastic. My aesthetician was Sarah who is very sweet and professional. She took me to the Silk Treatment room, where she instructed me to get into the little strapless terry tube-dress while she left the room (like a massage). When she returned, she took a look at my skin under the magnifying lamp and left for a moment to get products appropriate for my skin. She started with a cleanser, and used a Clairisonic vibrating brush to get a deeper clean. She wiped off the cleanser with toning wipes and applied an exfoliating butter to slough off dead skin cells while she steamed my face. The steam was excellent and lasted for at least a full five minutes, during which time she gave a hand and arm massage. So pampering! Next, she removed the exfoliating butter with a hot towel and moved on to extraction. The extraction was painless and thorough; she started at the top and worked her way around my whole face. Following the extraction, she applied a soothing hydrating masque and left the room for a few minutes. When she returned, she removed the masque with another hot towel, applied a light moisturizer, and told me I was good to go. She informed me that she had indicated which products she had used during my facial on a small card, along with information about the products. That was the extent of the "hard sell", which truly was great and appropriate for someone getting the "express facial". The 30 minutes was actually closer to 45 minutes, but no complaints here. I will definitely be back for another facial and perhaps I will step up to the signature! read more

Nice salon, but customer service needs some work. My mom got a haircut there and a dog peed on her handbag. Accidents happen, and it's not a big deal, so I tried the salon. I booked an appointment at 10am and had a text message confirmation and a phone call confirmation. When I arrived, I was told I didn't have an appointment and could come back at 2pm. Nobody apologized. I mentioned that it was a little frustrating, but not a big deal. The front desk girl acted like she was doing me a favor, saying "we called someone in to cut your hair". Still no apology. It wasn't my error, so getting me another appointment was the least they could do. I moved some things around and came back. I showed the stylist two pictures of the haircut I wanted, and mentioned I definitely want it below my shoulders. My hair ended up too short (about shoulder length) and it didn't look like the cut I showed the stI tipped and left but I won't be back. If the cut had been a little off, it wouldn't have been a big deal, but the bad cut and the customer service left me feeling like I wanted something more. I booked a salon visit for two services for this past Christmas. I planned to get my eyebrows done, then get my hair done right after. While waxing my eyebrows it was very painful, and my face was extremely red. I later found out that the combination of tretinoin and hot wax is dangerous. The use of retinol naturally thins the layers of the skin. However, this only occurred because of undisclosed information on the form. It was not the fault of anyone, so let this be a lesson to all of you. Secondly, I was supposed to get my hair cut and colored. Apparently, the appointment time increment was not set accordingly. I asked for hair color, specifically, a balayage, that did not occur. A month later, I got my hair lightened. I showed my stylist a photo of blended brown balayage. Since I previously used semi-permanent hair dye, the lightning process would not be straightforward. I was made aware of this. However, the lighting process was disappointing and confusing. My hair came out looking like a mess of blond and auburn strands. I was told that the process would be longer. And, I came in once again, and I was told that I would need to come in once again. That same day, another sceduling problem occurred right in the middle of my appointment . Overall, the frequent sceduling predicaments, the high prices, and the lack of transparenty made this a stressful experience. I would recommend for indivduals to ask for a simple color proccess and haircut. I would caution that sceduling mistakes are more likely. read more
