Here you will find a charming Oriental food restaurant called New Luck Toy. Unlike most oriental restaurants, the menu is very limited. The majority of the food has some heat to it. However, the flavor is fantastic! We chose takeout, and while waiting for our order had a Chinese beer and a glass of wine (which was served in a martini glass.) Service at the bar was awesome! Our food came out hot and fast. We served six people for $75. (That includes our drinks at the bar.) Excellent flavor, good portions. A very solid four star performance. I finally made it to New Luck Toy. It looks kind of questionable from the outside, but the inside is pretty cool. We sat in a booth in the bar area. It got packed pretty quickly, glad we arrived a little on the early side (4:30ish on a Saturday). The drinks are pretty good and I really enjoyed most of the food. You can't go wrong with the dry fried long beans, shrimp and pork fat wontons and honey pecan prawns, all were super yummy! The general oh so tso good fried chicken was ok (it was a little dry) and I did not like the salt and pepper spare ribs at all (they were super dry). They have lots of fun drinks (extra points for umbrellas!). It's a fun place to hang with friends. read more

Nice try, but way overpriced for what you get. Service and ambiance are great and some of the food was pretty good American style Chinese food served in little paper boats. However, the low mein was almost inedible and the prices they charged for food and drinks were outrageous. read more

We finalllllly made it to New Luck Toy after talking about it forever. We really love Mark Fuller's work at Ma'ono and figured this would be a great spot as well. The space had a pretty cool vibe, but all of the seating in the back was taken so we grabbed a booth up front. It is definitely set up for more of a social outing than a date, so we would definitely bring some friends back with us if we make it back. The food was okay, definitely not Ma'ono, but also a lower price point, so that was expected. We just tried the General tso chicken and the honey pecan prawns, and the clear winner for us was the prawns. Overall, seems like a cool place to grab some drinks and cheap bites with friends. The slushy drinks and the dumplings are delicious!! The broccoli and lamb are good too. The salt and pepper shrimp and spareribs were both overly salty. Would not order those again. The booths are pretty cramped if you come with a group of 6 or more. The wait was about 15 minutes at 5 pm on a Saturday. read more

What an awesome little bar in West Seattle. Really chill vibes with very traditional Chinese food (ma po tofu, dumplings, etc.) and very fun drinks. They make frozen, tap cocktails and cocktails while having 8 or so beers on tap. I tried the dumplings which were fantastic. They had little fried chives (or green onions?) as well as fresh cilantro and sesame seeds which added nice flavor and ample amounts of crunch. Sauce they sat in was nice as well, not quite DTF but well worth whatever they cost. Tried a few cocktails and my favorite was the Lucky Colada. Will definitely be back to hit the karaoke room which is open all day. read more

This is our favorite neighborhood place. The food is so good and hot. Their take out during COVID has been even better than normal. The shrimp is our favorite but the beef is becoming a close second! Fried rice is always a staple. I do miss the buns they had before with the duck or as an extra side. Hoping that comes back soon. Get take out from here. This place is just straight out amazeballs. New Luck Toy is not quite a "dive bar". However, they do have a bar. They offer a variety of unique and hip drinks and food. Our waitress was great too. Welcoming and willing to help. We enjoyed the honey walnut prawns, garlic eggplant,Mongolian Beef & Bitter Broccoli and my now favorite, Chow Mein with pork. The chow mein with pork is my favorite followed by the prawns. I filled up on those two. This is no ordinary Chinese food or dive bar food. It's goooood. I can't tell you what makes it good, it just tastes good. I also enjoyed the frozen Mango Scorpion. I noticed some reviews say "excellent food" and "dive bar" then give it a three star. What gives?! They are a dive bar, don't claim to be other. They do serve some of the best Chinese food around and should be rated according to their claims. 5 stars all the way. TIPS: This is a bar. 21 and over. Standing room only on weekends. This is a bar they don't care if people stay so expect long waits at peak times and slower service. We went at 4pm. No waiting. read more

So it pains me to have to write this review as I use to love to get food/drinks from this place. This spot is close to my apartment and was great if I was craving a small snack or a stiff drink. When the pandemic hit I went there when they were open and had them in my rotation of supporting small businesses. I went in there one time and something changed. The food wasn't good and the manager/bartender was kinda rude. I chalked it up to stress levels and limited resources because of the pandemic. When they started to ask for vaxx cards that's when their customer service got totally crappy and decided I couldn't support them anymore. I don't understand why they would blindly follow and give their courtesy to the people that tried to ruin their businesses for 2 years instead of the loyal customers who did what they could do to keep their doors open. read more

Eh. I wasn't a huge fan. The place was pretty packed when we came in, there was only 1 booth left, which we snagged just in time. The menus are on the table, you mark what you want and give it to your sever. The utensils and plates are disposable, paper trays and wooden chopsticks. I've never had this at a sit-down restaurant before. The food was actually not great. I'm not a duck person so I'm biased when I say I didn't like the flavor, at all. The ribs were incredibly tender, but didn't really taste like much. The chow fun was maybe like.. half noodles and half everything else. It tasted like nothing I'd ever had before, it was sweet -- I've never had it taste sweet before? The waitress barely came by (I think she might have been serving all the tables in the entire room), she was nice but honestly they just seemed incredibly short staffed. Came here on a Sunday evening shortly after they opened and grabbed a booth in the front with a girlfriend. She'd been quite a few times, so I let her order for us (which seems like a great thing from some of the mixed reviews on food). We shared the spicy shrimp & pork fat dumplings (amazing flavor -- I could order this an en entree), shitake pork egg rolls (tasted good, but she said they'd changed them up since she last ordered them. She preferred their previous taste/flavor), general oh tso good fried chicken (moist and flavorful), and the spicy pickled cucumbers (delicious). If I went back I'd order everything again, but pass on the egg rolls... probably double up on the shrimp & pork fat dumplings. Drinks! Let's talk about the drinks -- much like their sister restaurant Supreme, the drinks are bomb, especially the frozen drinks. I ordered 2 Hurricanes and was in heaven! I'd love to come here and just make a night of karaoke, drinking their BOMB drinks, and eating some food. My girlfriend mentioned that the crowd can be hit or miss depending on the night you go. We were there earlier in the night and I thought the spot was great -- dope rap/trap/r&b music, not packed, great service (MJ was our server)... so I'm sure that played into having a good experience. I also was a fan of the decor and thought it was a fun, photogenic space. The interior of this space doesn't feel like a hole in the wall to me, but a funky space you'd see in Cap Hill. I came in the other night with a group of girlfriends and sat in the bar. Shortly after we ordered our drinks, a couple of customers got into a shouting match with the bartender and stormed out. It was a really weird situation, like something that you might expect to happen at 2:00 A.M. on a weekend night after drinking too much, not at 7:00 P.M. on a Wednesday. Anyway, their argument was that the bartender was completely ignoring them and the service was slow, and after my evening here, even though I wasn't ready to slam my hand on the table in anger like they did, I do have to say that I have to agree with the customers. There was only one bartender and one server on the floor to cover maybe 10 tables in the bar and not all of them were full; it should've been easy enough for any server to handle. You place your order by filling out an order form and handing it to the server, so orders should be easy enough to keep track of, nothing you need to commit to memory or anything. However, the server brought us multiple rounds of food we hadn't ordered, and the food that we actually ordered took almost an hour to show up. No quality checks were done. I would've ordered more food and drinks, but our server was too busy talking to his coworkers, retelling the tale of the big fight that happened earlier, to pay our table any attention. I love their pork dumplings, but man, they're barely worth the sloooooowwwww service here. read more

I can say this place has some of the best fried rice in town. The chicken thigh general tso chicken was great as well. The chow fun was less than stellar, but the baby bok choy was incredible! new luck toy has new-ish ownership. it's been in its current incarnation for over a year, i think, but tonight was the first time i've been in...and it was fun! the decor is funky and colorful although it's generally dark. they are not going for fancy, but that's ok. that wasn't what i was looking for. the menus are printed on lightweight paper and sit on the tables for you to use with stubby pencils as soon as you know how many of each item you want to order. the drinks were good! i had two palomas and they were very tasty: not too sweet but enough of both the juice and alcohol flavors. the food we ordered was good. i especially liked that they are forward thinking about the recycle factor: everything comes out from the kitchen in compostable "dishes" or paper boats and there's not a lot of trash being generated, from what i could tell. in general, this is a cute, dive-y type place that definitely has been spruced up with the new ownership. i'd come back here. our server was attentive, the food came to the table warm and the drink options make me want to try a different one on each visit. nice to know about this as a place to meet with friends for some casual, local socializing. read more

This place should have better ratings. Bad ass bar for local 20-30 somethings. I live across the street. I saw this place go from an Africa joint to Chinese restaurant to a karaoke bar. I went in by myself around 10:00 on a Friday for the first time. A few people at the bar and a few tables occupied. Surprisingly cool decor and subdued entrance, but no karaoke in site. I sat at the bar and ordered a Caparihna and some fried rice. The crowd was mid 20s to early 30s (I'm 39), which was a little surprising. Fried rice pretty decent. Crowd steadily increase. Bottom line: seemed line a cool little place to hang with friend after 10. Good drinks, good bites, slightly harried but kind service. Less of a neighborhood place and more of a random pop bar. read more

I had the displeasure of spending five minutes at New Luck Toy last night. I truly have never witnessed such horrible behavior from a restaurant or bar staff member ever. From reading other reviews this isn't even slightly an isolated incident. And apparently the owner is either clueless or doesn't care. The bartender actually called one member of our group (the birthday girl) an assh*le for asking a question and trying to figure out if we would all fit in the karaoke room, we let him know his behavior was unacceptable and that if anyone was being as a-hole it was him. Obviously at that point we were stunned and turned to leave (this happened so fast that a few members from our group were just arriving). A couple of people from our group are pretty prominent in the restaurant business (owners, and chefs). They mentioned to each other that they were going to call the owner when we got outside. The bartender/ bar manager shouted "why don't you all call Jeff (owner) I don't give a sh*t!" As a few in our group hung back to try to make sense of what just happened he said, "Haven't you left yet?!" This is a guy with a personality disorder, in a service position. He could singlehandedly ruin this establishment, and probably will. Understand that we were group of friends (in our 40s and 50s)who had just walked in and were trying to get an idea of how their karaoke room worked. We weren't drunk and we weren't rowdy. We were just asking questions because we didn't know how things worked there. As a business owner I can tell you that the bartender would be unemployed today if he worked for me. There are a lot of people out there who would love to have a job, and would actually be an asset for the business . On the bright side, we went down the street to Yen Wor Village, where the servers were awesome, the cocktails wonderful, the crowd very full and very friendly, and the karaoke probably the most fun I've ever seen. Update 12-15-18: Wow - the plot thickens. Someone named Chad K wrote a review stating that they were"at a table with us" and changing all the facts around. Interesting, since we weren't at a table. We had just arrived. Hey Chad K, why don't you tell us the full names of those of us you were apparently with?! Maybe a little about how we all know each other or how we met?! This is going to be a hard one for you since you don't know us, and there were thirteen of us, not three. Chad, next time you try to do a "solid" for your buddies and/or co-workers you might want to think twice. Your review is a huge embarrassment to yourself, to Brendan, and to New Luck Toy. Makes me - and everyone on Yelp - wonder how many of your other reviews are made up as well?! Delete your account Chad. The bartender manager Brendan should NOT be working in any form of customer service. EVER. We went there last night with a group of people to celebrate a friend's birthday around 10:00pm. We had a couple of questions about how karaoke worked if we sat at the bar and he was immediately aggressive for absolutely no reason other than our apparent confusion. My friend (yes, the one celebrating her birthday) said, "Okay. I was just asking you a question." He walked away and two seconds later, turned around and said, "I'm trying to help you but you're being an a$$hole!" Needless to say, we would not spend two pennies in this place after that encounter. The most atrocious behavior I've seen in any establishment that is in the SERVICE INDUSTRY ... and we were only there for 30 seconds. Horrendous. He then cursed at several other of our friends who tried to let him know how badly he messed up. read more

Fun spot! I love the kitschy lanterns and waving cats when you walk in. The bar was packed at 6 on a Saturday but all the tables in the front were available. They filled up in about 20 minutes. You write your order on the little cards on the tables. The music was a fun mix of mostly 90s tunes. The Crimson Tiger Margarita was sweet and boozy. For food we had the Long Beans (good, slightly spicy and salty), Honey Pecan Prawns (DELISH with a nice hint of Five Spice), Shitake Pork Egg Rolls (nothing special) and the Beef Chow Fun Mein (pretty tasty with a good drizzle of chili oil). Gahhh! What a difference a few months make. I was in here two weeks ago grabbing dinner and drinks with my friend and wow food has gotten so much better. We ordered a few dishes here and I loved everything I ate. So delicious and now I'm all excited about visiting more often haha. My friend and I ordered the salt and pepper spare ribs, spicy shrimp and pork fat dumpling, general oh tso chicken, and chow fun mian. We were starving so we did eat almost everything. Everything was perfectly seasoned and not too salty. I think there was a WSU game on so the crowd was pretty loud and people were coming from a Halloween party I assumed since a lot of people were dressed up. Absolutely loved this spot. Perfect level of LOUD, well crafted drinks, and solid food. It's a great spot for a date night, a birthday gathering with friends (check out the karaoke room), or just a quick stop for a good drink along your evening jaunt. Depending on which way you enter, the front entrance pops you in right next to the kitchen and the karaoke room-- but if you walk further back (where the other entrance is), you're right in the bar area. Flew from Washington DC and had a quick late drink and Chinese food in West Seattle. This is an amazing place in a West Seattle neighborhood. For starters I have the cumin lamb with chive and red chiles which give it's an extra zing The lamb was tender and served in a Chipotle style bowl. For the main dish I had the numbing boiled beef Sichuan style with rice. The sliced beef was serve on top a perfectly blanched bok choy and bean sprouts with Sichuan peppercorns. Yikes, wanted to try this place for a long time but after trying four dishes, I definitely would not come back here. The bartender did a good job and put a nice spin on how half their menu was not available on a saturday evening, but whoever thought it was a good idea to serve people food out of cardboard carnival trays must be rworded. Trying to eat the duck ($26) with only chopsticks out of a tray was miserable...and the duck itself somehow was the most hazardous eating experience possible....sharp bits galore in every bite. The only remotely tasty items were the pecan prawns (you get maybe 8 of them for $16, with no rice) and the pickled cucumbers ($10). Unfortunately probably would have been more satisfied eating at a panda express... :( read more
