I spent my birthday here with two friends and it was such a lovely experience. We actually stumbled into the restaurant, and our server led us to the back where we found this hidden, secret spot. The food was delicious and the drinks were fantastic and felt very grown and elevated. The server, bartender, everything, Cory I think, was incredibly kind and somehow memorized our long list of orders without missing a beat. I will say it took a while to get our snacks and drinks, but it was really busy and the live band was so good that we didn't mind at all. The space has gorgeous, moody lighting, and the music is at the perfect level where you can still have a casual conversation. But once a song ends, you might want to wrap it up just in case. This was such a cool place to visit! It's a speakeasy that has a unique entryway. I would've never have known how to get in had it not been for our friends who invited us to meet there. The space is dimly lit and has some nice spaces to sit. The bar itself looks really nice and elegant. We all ordered different drinks and they were all very good. The bartender definitely knew what they were doing. The friend that invited us there would ask the bartender to surprise her with their drinks. She just gave him information of what liquor she liked and some other information (bartender asking questions about taste, etc). He would give her time to try and guess what was in it before letting us know what they created. This was such a fun experience that I would like to come back the next time I'm in town. read more

If you have time in your evening to head there a little early, go for it and definitely let your eyes adjust when you walk in :) It gets busier by 11 or so yet I definitely always appreciate the laidback vibe of the night scene in West Seattle than other parts in the area! The drinks are amazing (I had an old fashioned) while the others had the Aviation or a French 75. The menu is by QR code and we ordered appetizers throughout the night. The bartenders were pretty cool; I think the older gentleman got a bit miffed by one of our friends yet I think we were able to smooth it over by end of the night. We arrived around 7 PM on a Monday and followed the signs posted at the Vietnamese restaurant. It took us a little while to find the alley and entrance. I was impressed by the door design and the live music--especially on a Monday night! The bar had great vibes and interiors. The staff was friendly, and the drinks were delicious. The vibe is great! We came on a monday night, and it was not too busy. It was a little off-putting when the bartender told us to scan the QR code for the menu, but then half the food items were no longer available as we tried to order. Also, table service was non-existent, you have to get up and tell the bartender your order each time. Drinks were delicious. This was truly the worst service that I have ever experienced. It's disappointing because I had visited The Alley before and had a good time. Not only were my friend and I extremely uncomfortable, but other patrons noticed and were distressed as well. Below is the review that my friend left on Google. I also emailed it to the business so that management is aware: My friend and I were completely ignored last night. We tried to flag down the server for at least 20 minutes. We tried every time she walked past us and she ignored us. At some point, we were the only table that had not been helped in the entire place and we wondered if we were being refused service. She was still checking in on every other table that already had food/drinks, but actively ignoring us. The table next to us noticed and commented that they received good service the whole time that we were ignored. They noted that the experience was uncomfortable for them too as they were being helped consistently while we sat there with an empty table, trying to be noticed. We were finally able to talk to the server by basically having to yell for her attention, and she claimed that she hadn't even noticed us sitting there for 20 minutes. But we checked in with her when we first arrived and she told us that we could just seat ourselves, so she did know that we were there. We were the only Black table there. This was the evening of January 30th and the server was a white woman with blonde/white/light hair. read more

Many bars are located around the downtown area of Seattle (including Belltown and Capitol Hill) so this one being located in West Seattle makes it not as well known, but word has gotten out of this very speakeasy vibes bar so it was still a bit busy on a Thursday night. We went around 8pm while it's still bright (Seattle summers woohoo) and it was fairly hard to find the entrance unless you did your research. Basically you have to find a door handle inside the lockers, but it's a fun adventure. It kind of reminds me of Hanky Panky bar in Mexico City where I had to enter through a restaurant kitchen to get in. The adventure is more appealing than the drinks, but the overall experience was nonetheless exciting and perfect for a date night or a special hangout with friends. We tried the Cosmopolitan, New York Sour, and Hemingway Daiquiri. All of these drinks are the classic drinks you can get anywhere, and they also do it fairly decently but it was not memorable. The ambience inside is nice - fairly spacious and relaxed from the higher ceilings even though the space is a bit small. Overall, it was a nice experience and a place that you can impress other people or a date. Word has gotten out so chances are, a good number of people will have heard of this place, but fortunately, she never heard of this place and found it a very nice adventure to get inside. read more

This place gets some foot traffic because of recent insta reels. It is a speakeasy, so the best thing going for it is really the entrance - a small non-descript door to a room with a wall of lockers where you open a specific one to find the handle of the main door to the space - and enter. Once you enter- it is a small but nicely done space. I have been here twice, about six months apart. Cocktails are average- the balance of lemon juice to alcohol was totally off in the Bees Knees - very lemon forward. The mezcal old fashioned was good with balance. The fourth cocktail was forgettable and not balanced- a rye , ginger ale combo. Most of the drinks you could make just as well at home. Service was non existent and we ended up going to the counter to order. Food- we got the pork belly bites and truffle fries, both were good and as expected. Nothing stood out at this place. With other really nice craft cocktail bars with more inventive , well made drinks and excellent service like otter bar or the nook nearby- i would give this place a miss. Folks come here to make their insta reels on the entrance but it's been done so many times, it's no secret and the rest of the experience is not worth the effort. read more

This is a nice spot. That's a little bit tricky to find. We saw several Instagram videos and decided to take a trip here when you get dropped off in an Uber Lyft or taxi taxi they take you to the front. You actually have to walk to the back of this trip, it's hidden and it looks like you're going into the back of our restaurant. It's a nice very clean, staff are friendly, and love the music. The ambiance and decor are wonderful. I had the paper playing which was a delicious drink I definitely recommend and I hope that you enjoy your experience as much as I did. read more

I've enjoyed this spot for awhile and took some out of town friends last Sunday night. Two different staff were rude and made my friends feel very unwelcomed. we were initially told the room was full and to come back in 30-45 mins but there was no waiting system to ensure we would be next to come in. When we came back and it was still full we asked how long it would be and a waiter rudely snapped at us saying he didn't know and told us by coming in and out we were ruining the experience for others as he closed the door on us. I had high expectations for a fun and unique experience but instead all we got was a 'meh' overall. The location and finding it is fun and provides a sense of uniqueness of days past of the speakeasy. Once inside, the decor is appropriate and inviting - even giving the feel of a 1920's speakeasy. But from there it went downhill. The sever was more interested in telling us how he ripped his fingernail off just minutes before - boy thank you for the visual of you making our cocktails. The drinks we ordered were nothing to note. The Manhattans tasted VERY bland and without taste. The other three signature drinks were also bland and nothing to brag about I was wishing for a more pleasant experience but it overall failed in providing that. I love speakeasies and this one lives by its name. I couldn't find it at first so me and my friend went to Matadors and enjoyed their happy hour for food. Then went back and tried locating The Alley again and got lucky. It's definitely hidden away and once you walk in it's just the cutest place. It's definitely one of those places where you need to know what to do/ where to go in order to get inside. Hint: open the lockers when you find the place. What a fun spot! It was a bit hard to find, especially because the bouncer was in sweats and not very welcoming-we thought he might just be someone hanging out in a doorway after a shift which made me and my friends question if it was the right spot. I guess maybe that's the point but he wasn't pleased that we had found it. The space is very small but that makes it kind of cool, it was packed on a Friday at 9pm and my friend and I ended up sharing a big chair so we would fit. I got a cosmo and it was great. Delicious, cute glass, fun menu, but the drinks are all pricey. The service was fine. They seemed way understaffed. We were checked on 3 times within 10 min of arriving then didn't get a single other server come to our table until we chased someone down for a bill about 40 minutes after finishing our drinks. There weren't many tables, but the servers did seem pretty busy. Cool spot to check out but not worth the trek to west Seattle unless you are already there for something else. read more

I came here in September and had a great time! The Alley certainly gives you a hidden speakeasy experience, with having to hope the door behind a set of lockers. The space isn't huge but there are tales to accommodate 2-3 people per table. As for drinks, the menu has a decent selection. However, the bartender, Jeremy, is able to make custom drinks for you. Similar to Needle and Thread, you can give him an idea of what you like to drink (spirits, flavors, etc.) and he'll come up with something. He's fairly creative in his expressions, but the drinks he made us were pretty top notch! He knows his stuff and had some pretty good seasonal ideas about drink/events for the bar. I hope the manager takes that into consideration because that would make The Alley worth visiting on a regular basis! The only point of criticism I had was the food. The selection isn't huge, just mostly finger bites and some of the items were actually unavailable. But what can you expect for a speakeasy? The focus is on the drinks! The Alley is a fun speakeasy that we only found when the bartender happened to walk outside, but once you know how to get there it's hard to forget! I've been both when it's fairly empty and super crowded, and it gets pretty loud with much slower service on those busy nights. I love how the drinks are organized by eras and the prices are quite reasonable for West Seattle. The cocktails aren't super experimental, but classics executed well. I wouldn't recommend getting the wine (they're not a wine bar, after all!). The setting is very intimate, with a few small tables and bar seating, with cozy vibes that aren't really found elsewhere in the junction area. A great place to take a friend or two when they're in the area after dinner. read more

I must say, I might need to come back when they have the live jazz music. When you go to a speakeasy i think of a transportation of eras. The music just did not match what the over all ambiance was selling. A lot of 2000 RBN when truly, this place would have been amazing playing some Loui Armstrong or some fun prohibitions band. All in all, a cool place to post about, but not to stay and hang around at. We ordered cheesecake that was super store bought. And not the good kind. Again, expecting a bit more of an experience. This is one of the coolest speakeasy bars we have ever seen. The bartender is very knowledgeable and every drink has been great. They have a creative menu with an era theme. We have not been able to attend any of the live music events but they seem fabulous as well. They have small plates too if you are looking for a bite.
