Every department I have dealt with at this facility has been very poor. From trying to make an appointment(put your life on hold for an hour), to the initial exam by Dr. Chapman that was so aggressive that left me in pain on my good knee for 3 days to just now getting off the phone with them when they sent me a collection demand letter and then a week later sent me a statement for the actual services received... of course the representative was rude. DON'T GO HERE. My doctor was Chapman, when he was comparing my good knee to my bad knee he kept popping pulling and digging his fingers under my knee saying he was trying to find my ACL. It was so intense that he left my good knee bruised for three days and my bad knee now had this large bulge under it that was much more painful than before. I saw another doctor at Mayo which is where I am going now and his evaluation was delicate compared to Dr. Chapman. MRI was a pain to deal with because they had a young inexperienced tech who wrote things in her chart that I never said just because I have a small needle in me. People get MRI's all the time with metal in them and this was tiny. I had to make at least 20 more calls to departments with numerous unreturned calls to finally get the MRI. My doctors assistant at one point cancelled my appointment as I was on my way there so I could not answer my phone while driving and then I never got her to return my calls. Made three calls that week to reschedule and still never received a call back. That's when I finally called Mayo and I feel like it was a call from God. I had people approach me in the store without even knowing me to say not to go to New Mexico Orthopaedics and now I understand why. Scheduling, billing, the doctor, MRI, medical records, all of the departments were challenging, even compared to other local large medical facilities like The New Mexico Cancer Center or the hospital. I cannot even imagine the nightmare of going through with a surgery with them. Save your sanity. Go somewhere else. There are other options! read more

i was given a brace for an unspecified weight bearing injury to the right ankle. I was told the tech would show me how to put it on. However, she came in with a box, pulled out a thin "sleeve" said it could go right over my sock, slipped it on and pulled 3 Velcro straps over my foot, handed me the box and left. The doctor didn't mention whether i should not bear any weight on it or not. When I got home I found 2 more straps in the box that are part of a 3 part brace. I scanned the QRS code and watched a 1 inch video with no audio that I could barely see. I still do not know if I'm applying the 3 parts correctly. I went for the MRI today, a week later and was not allowed to get seen because I have a service animal for a previous spinal injury. I have had 3 MRI's, 2CT scans and abdominal surgery at the Mayo Clinic- all accompanied with my service dog who is registered with the Department of Transportation and flys every where I go- twice a year- without a single complain. This company functions like a factory. You are not a person to anyone who works here. You are a pay check on their very rude and very impersonal conveyor belt. read more

My mom had an appointment for a broken humerus. It's been 7 days waiting to see the doctor. While waiting at the actual NM Orthopedics office for the scheduled appointment, I received a call that only stated call back to reschedule the appointment. We drove an hour to get there. No other doctor on sight on a Friday to see patients in severe pain. Was told the doctor had another emergency. Wouldn't you think that in a place this large, they might have a back up plan? I would not recommend this very unorganized facility. read more

We have been using NM Orthopedics since 2023. I agree that calling in can be very frustrating and getting a call back can be problematic. My oldest child has seen Dr. Seidenstricker since 2023 and he's phenomenal! He performed two surgeries on a rare cyst. He did an amazing job in surgery and with all pre and post op appointments. My child wouldn't be where they are without his excellent care. My youngest has also used the walk in clinic for a broken bone, two different injuries and everyone we encountered was very knowledgeable and kind. Because our state lacks pediatric orthopedists we don't mind the drive to receive care. Yes you will wait, Welcome to healthcare in the modern world and especially in our state. I have had two separate experiences with the Winrock location and both have been superior from initial interaction with check in, technicians and doctors. 1st was for lower back and leg sciatica issue, with Dr. Justin Averna, insurance puts restrictions on what can be done before next steps, XRay performed and did confirm physical therapy would need to be tried (required by insurance) PRIOR to MRI to actual confirm extent of issue. Once that was completed to satisfy insurance, I was called and a MRI was immediately ordered. MRI completed, called within 5 days to confirm next steps. 2nd issue was broken ankle, went to Lovelace ER for initial diagnosis, XRay, soft cast, was told Lovelace orthopedics would schedule a follow up (never received a call even after I called them to help initiate). I decided to try NM Orthopaedics for follow up they scheduled an appointment within 2 days with Dr. Chad Seidenstricker, took XRay, scheduled surgery within 5 days, incredible surgery center experience, office visits continued communication and follow up from the entire team could not be happier with this experience. We are lucky to have such an amazing facility with qualified and caring Doctors and Staff in our area. read more

I've now been seen at NM Orthopedics on two different occasions and wasn't impressed whatsoever. Most recently I was seen for a badly fractured upper arm. The doctor did not explain how to wear my weird cast, how long I should have my arm in the sling, and only wanted to do X-rays at the six week mark. I asked about surgery because the humerus bone was not aligned, but was poo-poo'd. The doctor asked where I had gotten my clamshell cast and I let him know it was from the ER. He then stated that it was not a very good cast and there were better ones, but then did nothing to refer me or try to get a better cast for me. I also asked about home health but was never referred. I ended up getting a second opinion (which I've never done before in my life) and terminated my care at NM Orthopedics. Just a bad experience overall. read more

I am surprised that New Mexico Orthopaedics has a solid 2-star average rating. I've seen a few of their doctors over the past several years and have had great experiences. A few years ago, I saw Dr. John Kiburz for a meniscus tear in my right knee, and he was kind and helped a lot. I felt confident in his abilities. Today, I had an appointment with Dr. Matthew Patton for a thumb injury. Not only was he very knowledgeable about my particular hand injury, but he was also personable and treated me as an equal. Those are essential qualities for a doctor to have. Before seeing Dr. Patton for my thumb, I initially saw Kira McLemore, PA-C. She was compassionate and recommended I see one of the orthopedic surgeons here. Sure, the wait after check-in was long each time, but this is positive. These doctors are in high demand, and the ones I've seen didn't rush through my time with them. I highly recommend going here for any ortho injuries. read more

Office personnel experience...lack of eye contact or empathy. Would not respond to my calls or patent portal questions. I had to research and contact a person there that handled complaints. I ended up going to a different surgeon and facility. Also, they like to push going to their day surgery clinic for surgery as the surgeons have a vested interest in that facility. Doctors are ok but the staff sucks. Assistants lie or provide misinformation and fail to complete referrals and make follow-up appointments. I made a complaint when I showed up for my appointment to get my surgical stitches out and learned that my surgeon's assistant failed to make me any future appointments. When I complained, their security guard asked us to leave. I went to a nearby ER to get someone to take out the sutures. Please learn from my mistake in coming here for decent Healthcare treatment. I don't know how they stay in business. Before we left, a person claiming to be a supervisor named Kim, just kept making poor excuses for their multiple failures. When I asked her for her contact extension, Kim suddenly refused to be helpful. Kim is allergic to accountability. read more

I started pt on my right clavicle on 5/14 I am 69 years old, during my evaluation I was able to do all of the exercises. Then I was layed on the exam table and when he was seeing how far my arm could be raised it did not hurt. When I got home later in the evening my clavicle started to really ache, I assumed it was from therpy. By the next morningmy clavicle had a large area of swelling and a bump. I emailed Nick and his reply was to ice it, which I did. I went on 5/21/25 and asked for another x-ray which showed a retreat, I believe Nick rebroke my clavicle during my Evaluation!! Absolutely horrible experience. The doctor ordered x-rays, never looked at my shoulder and misdiagnosed a torn rotator cuff. It turns out an mri is required to make such a diagnosis. First of all, good luck trying to get someone to answer the phone or even call you back. When I finally got an appointment and walked in I felt like I was on a conveyor belt. I saw an ankle specialist who was very matter of fact and acted like he was in a hurry. I canceled my follow up appointment and went to a different clinic. We were seen as soon as we arrived, even though it was before our appointment time. Everyone was kind, professional, and efficient. I had a total hip replacement August 2023 at NMO Winrock. If your physician refers you here seriously consider going somewhere else like Presbyterian or NMO Rio Rancho. I suppose the surgery was "good" (Dr Tripanini) but the care is abysmal. First of all they require you to schedule anything or discuss issues through their "medical assistant" who takes WEEKS or MONTHS to get back to you. Once it was determined I needed a THR it took 3 months to schedule it... it's YOUR JOB!!!!! Also if you have any concerns you need to text the medical assistant .... She's NOT a PA or a Dr.... She's a secretary!!! I had some post op concerns and when she FINALLY got back to he said "Oh that's normal". And it wasn't!!!! NMO Winrock is a surgical factory and as far as I can tell they really don't care about you or want to talk to you. I recently had some ongoing issues and again the medical assistant told me "oh it's fine and normal". No.... It is not. I went and got a second opinion and no, my issues are NOT normal. Just talk to me!!! They did make a follow up appointment for AUGUST 27 which I decided to cancel because o am MUCH HAPPIER with the referral institution where they listened and talked to me, examined me and helped me and they didn't even do the surgery. I will NOT go back to NMO. I looked on my portal to cancel my August Appt and could not find it... so I called. Talked to a nice lady who said "Oh... the reason you can't find it is be cause Dr Tripanini cancelled your appt because he's going to now out of town." Seriously??? This could be very long and should be but yelp wont give me the space to provide the entire situation as well as names, dates and facts. All I can say is that Dr. Jefferey Racca has absolutely no time for you if you are just a lowly construction worker on workman's comp. First appointment he was friendly and seemed as if he wanted to help. Second appointment, when the workmans comp kicked in, Dr. Racca could not get me out of his office fast enough. He wanted nothing to do with me. A year later my knee condition has gotten worse and my life has had immense negative impact. I did not have a problem with the doctors or nurses I dealt with. But every other aspect of dealing with New Mexico orthopedics was absolutely awful. The people who answer the phones, call you about benefits and do their billing are just the worst. They have zero empathy or customer service skills and treat you like a number instead of a human. The billing people especially cannot seem to get anything right. There were two different services I paid for and ended up getting another surprise bill later. The Center is Conveniently Located next to a Mall and has ample parking, expect it to always be full. They offer Online Checkin and you can pay your Co-Pay so when you walk in you are actually only letting them know you are there. They direct you to follow a color and off you go to the Elevator Banks. We waited about 25 minutes, longer than normal but the friendly Assistant was wonderful. I saw Micah Benson and he was really knowledgeable and we agreed upon care. I had two Steriod Injections and I have had many and I promise you he knows his stuff. The worse part of it was pressure (NO PAIN, I PROMISE). He is so good at what he does and his happy to be there helping you. I would have given five stars but the first person I interacted with was less than happy and then listening to those at the desk banks on second floor complain about their superiors and have their heads down ignoring the Patients coming upon them makes me feel they aren't very happy. But once inside you can expect really great care and people who make you feel valued and want to make you better! read more

I have to wonder if NMO ever reads their reviews. They are ALL Negative and deserved. The Docs are not the problem but the business end needs a severe clean-up from telephone service to their billing process. They don't value their patients concerns with ongoing care or access to their docs. Maybe they think that when you corner a market customer service is not necessary. I guess also that the docs don't care either since they have all the patients they can handle and patients are not complaining about their skill level and treatment. If I were rating the physicians and staff here, I would give six stars. Even ten. I've seen six docs here since 2006. Drs Knaus and Averna are especially noteworthy for their skill and compassion. Excellent care. Great PT staff. Every person--two thumbs up. I'm not kidding. BUT. If I were rating the communication/phone/appointment/electronic interface "system", I would give NEGATIVE TEN BLACK HOLES. Their website is awful. The menu is a fantasy, sending you down 10 minutes of rabbit holes that end with a human saying, "No, I'm sorry. We can't do [x]; the website is wrong, but they won't change it. I'm SO sorry." Or giving a text link, where you receive a reply AFTER sending your message (not before, to keep you from wasting your time): "texting is offline." Their phone system must have as many as two people staffing it. I have been on hold for over an hour. ONE HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES to be precise, listening to a narrator repeating, "Have you heard? You can schedule appointments and [do everything but run for president]. Be sure to visit our website..." Then there is the "secure patient portal": a thing called "Intellichart"--implying intelligence and accuracy. Uh, no. It's the only such system I've encountered that will not interface with similar set-ups (eg., MyChart), but has so many fewer functions instead. I HAVE been able to message my doctor and PA this way, so that's one good thing. But certainly not special. Otherwise? Just enjoy the pretty colors and readable font. Every hopeful menu item connects with a dead link ("We're sorry...") or the phone number to Dante's Seventh Circle of Hell: 505-724-4300, where I have been parked for NEARLY TWO HOURS. NMO also affords you the opportunity to pre-register via Phreesia, which won't let you cancel or reschedule, but will take your money just before it bombards you with ads and infomercials for prescription drugs. UGH. I've been writing this review while on hold. Every so often, a recording pops on quickly to say, "Your position in queue is". That's all. Not "third", or "twentieth", or "five hundredth". Just that snippet. I'm also given the option for a callback. Another sadistic joke: I fell for that once before; it took less time and effort to get into my car, drive several miles to Winrock, park in the handicap zone, extract myself and mobility aid from my car, walk to the door and stand in line to do business. The callback came as I was getting back in my car. Yes, that actually happened. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice... uhhh, nope. The medical staff--from MD/DOs to PAs to nurses, techs, and reception/support staff--are wonderful. I am baffled as to why NMO doesn't provide patient communications in step with the 21st Century. This is utterly pathetic. I have now been on hold for TWO HOURS AND SEVEN MINUTES. AHA! A human just answered!!!! "I'M SORRY, WE DO NOT SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS FOR PT HERE." THIS--505-724-4300-IS THE NUMBER THEY HAVE LISTED FOR WINROCK PT ON THE WEBSITE FROM HELL!!!!! Weren't respectful of patients' privacy. Patients were separated by curtains, not in separate rooms. You could hear EVERYTHING //// I had broken my shoulder. I was waiting for surgery This was when it wasn't impossible to get painkillers. I needed a painkiller refill, and I received a verbal OK for Rx refill. My neighbor took me to the office, because I couldn't drive. She went into the office to get the Rx. (This was all arranged by the office ahead of time. I waited 90 minutes!! -- until the office got around to giving my neighbor the Rx refill!! And while I was waiting -- I wet my pants. smh I cancelled my surgery. read more
