I chose it because I was in the area and have long noted that it comes up often in regional groups when members ask for Chinese recs. Went with my usual move of a combo and an app. Chicken Wings (appetizer): An order of four connected wings, equivalent to 8 pieces, or closer to 10 if you factor in that they were gigantic. Crispness varied greatly, but tenderness and juiciness prevailed in every piece. Slight marinade presence, but also close to supermarket roasted chicken flavor. Size matters and juiciness matters more, so well above average. General Gau's Chicken (on a combo): Small bite-sized pieces. Sweet, gloppy orange sauce. Mild heat. Minimal crispness. Average; maybe even a little below, but doable. Egg Roll (on the combo): Standard exterior, mostly cabbage interior, with tiny specs of red pork. Not much flavor but good freshness and crunch. Possibly average for those tolerant of cabbage, but below average for the celery-only crowd. Pork Fried Rice (on the combo): Not bad, but not much pork, not much warmth, not much moisture, not much flavor. Not surprisingly, not much better than not quite average. Hot and Sour Soup (with the combo): Thin broth. Some spice, but more vinegar, and some soy. More meaty than mushroomy. Average or a bit below. Duck Sauce: Bears mentioning. Large syrup dispenser filled with a pink blush mixture that's probably blended apple sauce and grenadine. Not a disaster, but certainly not a triumph, especially considering the many recs. There's still plenty to like: lot parking, good value, and an exceptionally friendly bartender whose good cheer might put regulars in a good enough mood to make the food seem better. The wings showed enough potential to try again, maybe with ribs or teriyaki. And enough potential overall to try again, but if I'm picking places in the area, this one wouldn't be first. read more

While ambiance looks amazing, I've been doing delivery which is excellent using their app. I have a "go to " order of the " healthy steamed " variety . Just love the steamed shrimp or chicken with veggies along with an order of white rice, not included. . Each order has been terrific ; very " clean" fresh with a variety of crispy veg and the proteins of either shrimp or chicken are ..perfection . Wow! What a pleasant surprise . 3 minute drive from my house opposite downtown traffic. Test for me is crab Rangoon and boneless ribs. Both excellent! I also ordered "Dragon and Phoenix " which was a combo of general gau and shrimp with vegetables. And beef fried rice. Also top notch. Looks like they have sushi and Japanese dishes as well. Food didn't arrive until a 1/2 hour after the expected delivery time, then when it did arrive, the sauce for the scallion pancakes opened up in the bag and was all over the food. Between the tax, the $1.50 processing fee, $1.69 service fee, $5.00 delivery fee, and the $9.25 tip I left for the driver, I'll never order anything from this place again. Went to stop and shop and was all ready to make my Philly cheesesteak stuffed bell peppers for dinn dinn until I said "forget this, let's do Chinese" (had other choice words) so decided on New Moon which was my first time. Thanks to my previous post you all made this a very easy decision. We got L7 sesame chicken with white rice side chicken fingers. All white meat which it did state and it was delicioso! Not soggy still crispy perfect sweetness. Got an appetizer crab rangoon. They were not stingy what so ever. Filled perfectly. Had a slight sweetness from the onion which I absolutely love. Got The L17 lobster sauce with shrimp. These shrimp were huge and came about 5 in my order which was a lot. This was the best lobster sauce I've ever had. And I had some great ones through my time (that's what he said) the pork was nice and lean. No fatty parts. Also my first time ever having it with peas and carrots. It Was Devine!!! Came with an eggroll but I didn't think that was great. Too greasy for me. But no complaints. All the food was amazing and my whole family enjoyed it. Have to agree with the reviews of lack of service and care. Haven't been back for 5+ years and decided to go back and try for takeout. They forgot my white rice when I got home. Decided not to call as it would take me 30 min round trip to go and get it. The food quality was not as good as before. The chow mein is now brown instead of white and extremely salty. The service is lacking - we have been several times and every single time we are promised a certain time for the food to be ready and it is consistently 30-60 minutes past the promised time. I took my mom there for an early dinner. The food was good. The experience started off pleasant, but took a quick turn. I was pressed for time, and my mother is disabled so sitting in restaurants after a little while gets uncomfortable and tiresome for her. I politely asked the woman at the register if we could get my mom's order in a to go box, and she responded with such a tone and loud voice that the other occupants could hear. She basically said in a harsh tone that we either take our order to go or sit and eat, and then we can ask for a to-go box. To add to insult she finishes with a smile. My mother who was across the dinning room heard it too. I went back and sat down. I understand that every restaurant has their rules which is okay, but the manner in which you communicate to people is super important. Then, my mom wanted another lemonade. I asked that same woman for another lemonade. To which she responded, "You have to pay for the lemonade. It's not free. You have to pay, okay." Just found that rude and odd. My mom even said she is treating us like we are dumb. I know unless if a menu specifically says bottomless or free refills I will have to pay for anything that I order that is extra. I like sushi and the prices looked very affordable. I called ahead, about 15 minutes before I showed up. when I arrived, I was asked to pay, but my order wasn't ready. The only person who was working at the restaurant was doing some clean up work, and she continued to clean up for 5 minutes after I had paid. Then someone from the kitchen came out and said something to her, and only THEN did this woman move behind the sushi bar to make my order. She was the sushi chef, had not prepared my order when I called, and STILL did not begin to make it after I had paid and I was waiting right in front of her. Some time later, my order was prepared. I have eaten sushi from all over the state, from genuine Japanese sushi restaurants to Chinese AYCE places that offered sushi, to supermarket sushi. This sushi I had was barely supermarket sushi quality. For a restaurant, it was among the worst I have ever had. Tasteless, poorly made, and definitely not fresh. So, not to belabor the point. If you like decent food with miserable and disinterested customer service, this is the place for you! I went into get my take out order tonight and they looked at me like I just woke them up. I got $72 worth of Chinese food for three people, it seemed a little high. But not for this place. I picked up takeout a few weeks earlier. I walked in and two people were eating at the front table. I stood there for 2-3 minutes before iI heard a fork go down with a sigh and a woman came up and said "Can I help you?" Just like tonight, I paid and said "Thank you and goodnight" they just turn their heads and walked away. Why am I saying "thank you" anyway? They should be the ones to thank me for ordering. However, this place is totally mismanaged , do not I repeat do not EVER go there on New Years Eve!! I placed an order at 5pm in person, was told to come back in 45 min, I returned to a crowd out the door of about 50 people, no food going out, one lady answering phones while 50 people , some who ordered the day before could not get there food! I waited another hour and finally made my way up to the front and got her attention and was told she would call in 20-30 minutes, not happening. I left and returned 45 min later to crowd still of 50 people waited 40 min to get up front and another 20 to finally get my order. Unbelievable. 3/12 hours for a simple order. Prices are fair for the amount of food they give you and they are open late which is a bonus! I didn't find the food greasy at all and they were more than generous with the portion. It was 12.87 for a dinner plate with Lo main, egg roll, chicken finger, and crab Rangoon. I made a substitution and upgraded to noodles so I think that is more than fair. From what the guy sitting next to me said the bartender was brandie new, but right on point with a cold beer at the very minute I put my bottle down on the swill mat. She was funny as heck too. Take out Is a mess after ordering Thai fried rice veggie without eggs and repeating 3 times myself and her repeating the order 2 times still got it wrong. We got takeout for our first time here. Food is fresh and delicious. I can always judge how a Chinese restaurant will be by their crab rangoon and egg roll lol, both were very good. I did the L16 with fried rice, spring roll, crab Rangoon and chicken teriyaki. I was able to substitute the spring roll for an egg roll and also do lo mein instead of rice. Everything was very good. My family LOVES The New Moon Garden! We order take out at least twice a month. The food is fresh and high quality. Their shrimp and vegetable dishes are awesome and the Yang Chow fried rice is a favorite. We always order online and the delivery has been on time...every time! Prices are comparable to the higher end Asian restaurants in the area so it is a keeper for us. I would like to try dining at the restaurant now that the COVID restrictions have lifted a bit. I ordered takeout on Saturday, July 1, 2017. I ordered egg rolls, chicken teriyaki, crab Ragoon and. Vegetable lo mein. Within an hour of me eating I began to feel sick, I started sweating profusely, severly light headed and ended up violently vomiting and ended up in bed with a severe headache. I called the restaraunt and a women answered the phone. I told her that I got sick from the food I ordered and I wanted my money back. She at first refused to refund my money until I threatened to bring the food back personally and the war I looked was not pretty and customers would find out I got sick and would not give me a refund. This is my new favorite local Chinese place. Have been several times and not had a bad meal yet. The food is cooked fresh and comes out piping hot. To be honest, I have only had standard Chinese American fare here but they do that very well. You can tell the oil they use to fry in is changed often as the food is not greasy and has a light taste to it. The fruit flavored chicken is unique and delicious with apples and pineapple. I am addicted to the pork gyoza. The filling is perfect and the skins are thin and light. Service has been excellent everytime. read more

Whenever I come to this restaurant it's a hit or miss and this time it was a real miss. The waiter is not too friendly nor listens. I ordered a couple of drinks and he came out with the wong ones but I let that slide and drank it anyways. So I ordered some food and when the crab Rangoon's came out they looked a little on the dark side like they were fried too long then when I bit into one of them it was still cool on the middle so from the looks of it they were old crab Rangoon's that got refried again that he denied doing so but was obvious cause there was a couple next to us with a fresh batch that looked completely different and it looked like it was full of life lol Clearly it wasn't my first rodeo having crab Rangoon's and knowing what's good from bad. Now we are done eating and he's wrapping up our food he tried to stuff my General Tao chicken order into a small container that barley fit so he went to go pick up the container it popped open on him dropping a couple pieces of chicken making a mess then he continues wrapping it up goes and grabs a rag comes back and says "what happen" with a confused look on his face. I said what do you mean... you spilt the chicken here when you wrapping up our food. He says I only dropped one piece an there is three here you guys did this that wasn't me. I literally couldn't believe that he would accuse me of opening up the bag open up the container and putting my own food I paid for on the table within a matter of five seconds of him turning around to grab that rag. When we called they were unfriendly and kept saying it was $2 extra for ordering after lunch hours and for substitutions, and I was fine with this. However, the quantity was much less than during the lunch hours and the General Gao's here is overcooked and tough. When we picked it up they were rude again to top it off. this place is where Hans Garden used to be before Tony moved it to downtown Haverhill. and, i'm breaking one of my rules in reviewing a place that's only been open a couple (maybe fewer) weeks but i'm giving it three stars based on only two of the dishes i tried. first, the place is pretty nice, but small, inside. and it's so new that you smell polyurethane before you smell any food. they got a Tiki Hut thing going on. we started with Unagi Lollipops, Ribs, Scallion Pancake and Egg Rolls. the lollipops were Very Good. Unagi and some other stuff wrapped in cucumber. but if you're gonna call them lollipops at least put them on a stick. the egg rolls are what every other american-chinese place around here serves, and they weren't that crispy. the ribs had good porky-flavor but i had asked for them Well-Done (i actually said 'Burn Them') and they were just cooked regular. the scallion pancake was a disaster. it was tough, chewy and without much visible scallion, i think they way over mixed the batter. next up we got the Twice Cooked Pork and House Lo Mein. the pork was the standout of the meal. nicely done. the lo mein was another story. the noodles were over-cooked and gummy but it tasted OK. oh, and we also got a Hot & Sour Soup that was average. so, for those Lollipops and the Twice Cooked Pork i'm throwing them three stars. i'll be back again after a few more weeks and see what they've become. read more
