    Fried tofu dish. Excellent

Can't go wrong with dumplings here. They have many filling options. I got the three filling option, steamed. Well presented. I can tell it is steamed fresh and dumplings were pre-made most likely. Juicy. Soft wrapping. Just what I wanted. I also got a fried tofu dish. Honestly their other stir fry dishes are pretty good too. They are not spectacular by themselves but pair well with dumplings and I would be back to try another dumpling flavor and another stir fry dish. Clean atmosphere great for dine in. would return.

I was looking for a new dumpling joint in the area and settled on this one since it is in the same plaza as my favourite bookstore. New Northern Dumplings is a restaurant specializing in traditional Chinese cuisine. Their fried Guotie Pork & Leek (#131) were tasty, not too salty or oily but nicely fried and flavourful. The wrapper had a soft, but chewy texture and perfect thickness. As a fan of leeks, this was one of my favourites. Crispy outside and chewy, juicy inside. An order of Steamed Pork & Chinese Cabbage Dumplings (#105) came with 15 perfectly folded juicy parcels of dumplings. They ran out of the Spring Pancake (#133) so I opted for the Spicy & Sour Soup (#139) Large size as an appetizer. It turned out to be a good. All items were made fresh to order and were all excellent choices!

This is a cozy restaurant serving northern Chinese food . We ordered some traditional northeast Chinese foods,: 1.大拉皮 is an ok, 3/5 2. lamb is not fully cooked, so we asked to recook and with additional cumin. 3/5 3, cabbage cold dish is excellent 5/5 4. 特色拌面3/5 5. 地三鲜 4/5 6. 鲜肉锅贴 4/5 Therefore overall given a 3 point.

Ok. Hit the spot but not bursting with flavour. The chilli sauce was a bit too sour. Nice portions for the price though. Friendly service. Still have a preference for dumplings at Ding Tai Fung not too far away. Check out my review for them !

I've been visiting this restaurant for years at the old location just next door. First time visiting their new location, 1 unit to the left, and I absolutely love the brighter interior and some added booth seating! Their authentic, on-the-spot hand made dumplings are fresh, not too thick, and has lots of juice. Coming here for lunch today, I noticed 3 other tables had beer, and noticed they have beer starting from $4.99! Their lamb skewers always reminds me of the nightmarket street food, perfectly made every time. I've always recommended and brought my friends to this place, and will continue to highly recommend with their new location!

Ever since we discovered this place, we've been coming here quite a bit. We come here mostly for their dumplings which are delicious and very well priced ($6.99-$7.99 for 15 dumplings)! We've probably tried every kind of dumplings they have, because of how good and cheap they are. We usually opt for the steamed ones (rather than pan fried) since they're cheaper and you get more bang for your buck. All taste so fresh and juicy though. Our favourites are probably pork and pumpkin dumplings and the lamb dumplings. Sooooo delicious We've also tried their other dishes and we were pleasantly surprised about how good they tasted as well. We had the fried noodle with mixed vegetable, pork fried rice and pork and minced pork with eggplant. The eggplant can be on the oilier side if you're not used to it, but that's usually how it's cooked at chinese restaurants. The pork fried rice was really good and tastes like the pork pieces were pork belly. It's a no-frills kind of place and usually doesn't have any wait. The owners are Mandarin, so there may be a language barrier if you have detailed questions. They do have an english menu though. The service was good, never had any complaints. Will be back many more times!!

Amazing dumpling spot! You really can't beat their amazing and affordable prices here! Their dumplings are plump and juicy, and come in a wide variety. We got the pork and leek steamed dumplings, tieguo pork dumplings, and green onion pancake. Their tieguo dumplings are nice and crunchy, while their steamed options are classics. I personally prefer steamed over pan fried, just because it feels a bit lighter. Their green onion pancake is very aromatic and full of green onion goodness. It's soft on the inside with a light crunch on the outside. This is my go-to spot for dumplings!

The food here more than makes up for the lack of ambience. It's a simple local restaurant that makes amazing dumplings and a mean skewer of lamb. The menu is easy to navigate since it has both english and chinese translations. Check off what you want and submit it for some seriously tasty food. We had the pork and pumpkin dumplings, which was an unexpectedly delicious combination. The pork brought the heavier savoury flavors while the pumpkin lent a sweetness, all in a bite sized package. Get an appetiser of lamb skewers (if you like the gamey taste of lamb) and you have the perfect meal for two people.

Excellent Shanghai food for a great price. Located on Silver Star Blvd, this restaurant is a fairly small and physically in need of some renovations. The food however makes it well worth it! I'd recommend ordering steamed dumplings as they are made fresh and come at a great price! There are a number of fillings (different meats and veggies) that you can pick from. The onion pancake is another worthy mention to try. I'd visit again!

This restaurant has been around for many years and it is a place that I eat at very often. This is the typical dumpling house that you would expect and like many others, this place serves a wide selection of delicious food for a low cost. It is a very plain, simple looking establishment that is usually pretty busy. It is most busy during lunch time on weekends. They keep the place fairly clean and service has always been pretty good. Highly recommended orders: Green onion pancake Pan fried pork & corn dumplings (12 pieces) Steamed chicken & mushroom dumplings (14 pieces) Sweet & sour fish Meatball soup

    Lydia I.

Great portion, good price, great flavor. Their green onion pancake is the best but always sold out for some reason. Tasty dumplings, especially the lamb dumplings. Chive pancakes are also pretty good. The lamb skewers are good but a little too spicy for me.

Best bang for your buck! Came here for lunch on a busy Sunday and lucky there was 1 table available so we didn't have to wait too be seated. The wait for food was another story though. We ordered the pot-stickers, sour vegetable & pork with vermicelli soup, chive pancake and fried dumplings. The food came out in that order, but the first dish took a good 20 mins to arrive, then each consecutive dish every 5 minutes thereafter. Food is typical of the northern China cuisine. Can't go wrong here.

One can get confused really easily... Especially with the turnover of all these Northern Chinese Restaurant in Scarborough... I almost lost count... I think this is the 3rd dumpling restaurants at this location within this 2 years... Same Decoration... Similar Menu.... Same Tables and Chairs... A new restaurant - New Northern Dumplings. Of course I need to have the dumplings... my usual dumplings of choice: Steamed Pork and Chives Dumplings ($4.99) - The wrapping is really really thin.. I can almost see the soup inside - be gentle when you pick it up with your chopsticks... because if you break the skin, all the soup inside would be drained out - Please don't stuff the whole dumpling into your mouth when it is boiling hot.. you will regret it... I am talking from experience! Service is cold and efficient... 10% Grand Opening Special I might come back to try other things on their menu... no lunch specials though!

When we arrived, he insisted that we did not have a reservation even after we showed our confirmation, and, instead of apologizing for what appeared to be the restaurant's booking system error, he tried to lecture us about how certain reservation websites do not allow large-group bookings. Rather than taking responsibility or working professionally toward a solution, his attitude was rude, dismissive, and completely inappropriate. Fortunately, the lady working with him was kind, professional, and genuinely tried to explain the situation and find a way to accommodate us. She deserves recognition for her efforts. Our group was in town for an eight-day conference with more than 3,000 attendees. Because of this experience, this restaurant has unfortunately been added to the "not recommended" list for this annual event. When restaurants host business travelers, the way guests are treated matters just as much as the quality of the food. Unprofessional treatment of customers and business partners can damage relationships and cost businesses significant opportunities. To anyone considering this restaurant: the food is excellent, but if you're planning an important business dinner or any special occasion, be aware that the wrong interaction at the front desk could ruin your evening. Great food alone cannot make up for poor management and unprofessional customer service.

By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

The roasted suckling pig with jellyfish is a dish of contrasts: warm, rich pork paired with cool, crunchy jellyfish. It may have been my portion, but the pork leaned slightly fatty. The crispy salted egg yolk prawns were impressively large and well cooked. I don't usually gravitate towards salted egg yolk, finding it heavy, but here it added a pleasant richness. Since the coating sits on the shell, it's easy to control how much you get. I also appreciated the inclusion of vegetables throughout the meal. The scallops came with gai lan, while the prawns were paired with broccoli, helping balance out the richness. Swapping out the usual shark fin soup, the bird's nest soup with minced chicken and egg white was a welcomed change. The broth was thick and silky, but the minced chicken added some much-needed texture. This is a long review for the rest go to Gastro World.

Hands down the best Gongbao/ Kungpao chicken the York region!…read more I ordered twice with uber eats and couldn't resist visiting the third time in person. Upon visiting I was a bit disappointed that they don't have dine-in service. Only take-out. But nevertheless, the people at the counter are kind and quick. My order arrived within minutes! Just to keep in mind, visiting the store is a bit cheaper (20%) than Uber eats. So if you're close by, don't forget to get their Gongbao chicken! I'm yet to try other delicacies from this store. Don't mind the store for its looks, it has no dine-in facility, just a few chairs and two tables but the food is yum!

Small town Chinese restaurants aren't the most promising food places, but this place was…read moresurprisingly good. Got "A little bit of everything". It was fantastic value especially for those who like variety, it came with an egg roll, teriyaki beef, wontons, breaded shrimp, chicken chop suey, sweet & sour chicken balls, spare ribs & chicken fried rice. Also added a spring roll. "A little bit of everything" was a lot of food. The rice had a good wok flavour & the chop suey was pretty tasty too. There was quite a bit of chicken in both. The teriyaki beef was so-so. The rest of the items were battered & deep fried (even the spare ribs) & were ok; the sweet & sour sauce was the usual sweet goo. The outside of the egg roll broke & the inside was so-so. For the spring roll I chose pork (there's vegetable too). It was stuffed with 99% minced pork & had a simple soy sauce based flavour. It was pretty good.
