Came here on a non busy weekday morning. Waitstaff was friendly and took our orders promptly. Restaurant is bright which is a plus. The waitress recommended a special to us and it turned out to be super tasty and the best dish out of the three that we ordered- this was the fish balls and other assorted items in a curry sauce. We also ordered the sliced beef and fish congee which was really yummy - the beef was very tender and delicious. We got the shrimp and sliced beef rice rolls which we enjoyed too. Local neighborhood hole in the wall place. Needed a quick meal, it was either this or Taco Bell. Was not impressed when i entered, certainly a place you wouldn't take a date or a secret lover, yeah I said it. However, my red flag gut intuition slowly began to soften when perusing their menus, a separate page for congee, separate page for noodles, separate page for rice rolls and a separate page for snacks. Now that's what I'm talking about. This is where people come for serious no nonsense eating. No fusion, no signature dishes, just straight up good basic Chinese comfort food It hit me when I out of the corner of my eye I saw pork intestine noodles on the noodle menu. Whaaaat, no way, no restaurant would dare serve this dish unless their customer base demanded it. People who like intestines described the taste as gamey barnyard funk, let's get real, it's poop, don't want it. Don't wanna even try. I got excited, any restaurant serving this dish must know what they are doing. I ordered the congee with century egg & pork, fried dough sticks and beef brisket dried noodles The beef brisket was tender with fat and attached membrane, beware, it is just not pure beef brisket, this type of brisket is not everyone's cup of tea. The noodles were firm and chewy The fried dough sticks were overcooked, too crispy and oily. Dipping them in the congee softened them up. The congee arrived very hot with creamy century egg and tender pork. It was so tasty I have to admit, their dishes were very authentic and a representation of what great cooking skills can accomplish with Chinese ingredients (including intestines). It's a shame these hole in the wall places are not well known but then the neighborhoods probably want it they way. I walked away very impressed read more

There may be a short line and you can get a number but I find the turnover is pretty fast so you do get seated fairly quickly. The seats are a little tight but not too bad. We always go for a congee each and a rice roll and fritter to share. This time I tried their pork intestine one (small intestine not large). There were lots inside the bowl. Portions are good. I usually get mine without green onions and ginger. The congee base is nice and fleecy but definitely on the more watery and not super thick side. The rice rolls are perfect! This place was packed on a Saturday at 1pm! I personally think their "cheung funs" taste better than the famous chain that originated from China. Their "cheung fun" takes the form of scrunched up sheets, unlike the rolls you get at dim sum restaurants. The cheung fun is thin and smooth. We ordered "jar leung", which exceeded my expectations. The "cheung fun" layer was so thin, that you can see the dough fritter underneath. The dough fritter was still crispy when we ate the last piece! We also ordered pork congee with preserved egg. The congee base was very well done, it was thick but not gluppy. However, I do wish they put a bit more preserved egg in it. Is there anything better than a hot bowl of congee on a cold day? Indoor dining is closed but they do have tables that you can sit at to wait for your order. We ordered a good ol' classic century egg and pork congee, fried dough, ox tongue pastry, and beef brisket. The congee was great. Thick and well salted. The pork pieces were large whole pieces - quality stuff! The eggs were actually in decent sized pieces, as in not too large. I'm not a huge fan of eating them whole but I managed to down a few. I've never met an ox tongue pastry that I haven't liked. If you haven't had one, it's a sweeter dough though definitely not a dessert. Although, my partner did describe it as "almost funnel cake-like". As for the fried dough stick, I thought they were a tiny bit too dense and a little oily for me. I've been eating in this area since forever and have only recently discovered this gem of a place. It makes me sad for all the bad bowls of congee and crappy rice rolls that I've had to consume in my long life. The congee is made by the bowl, so it might take a moment for it to get out to you but it will be guaranteed to be hot and delicious. The usual combinations are all available, and the one bowl can easily feed two people. The rice rolls are a bit different because the folds aren't all neatly rolled up, but I figure it's just because they make it fresh there. No complaints, especially when drowned in sesame sauce, sweet sauce, hot sauce and sesame seeds. Let's clarify that this isn't the classiest of places. They ran out of actual chairs so I got a plastic stool to sit on. When our table ran out of sesame sauce, the table next to us offered us theirs because there was a mutual understanding of the importance of sesame sauce. It's just that kinda place. I've eaten here before and it was decent so I called in to order take out this time. When I got there to pick up my food, I was waiting for the cashier to tell me the price. They also have soup noodles if you're feeling that. For congee we got 2 types: Salted egg/pork, and mixed mushroom/pork. For just $5 each, it was pretty worth. The bowls are huge, and the ingredients were fresh. The congee was quite clean and smooth, and i can tell that it wasn't MSG-filled like other places. In terms of rice noodle rolls, we got the BBQ pork, plain, and fried dough fritter. These rice noodle rolls are not like the typical ones that you see at a dim sum joint. They were uniquely wrinkled (kind of like the wrinkles you see on an old man lol), but tasted amazing. There was a pleasant elasticity when I bit into them, and it didn't tire out my jaw during the mastication process. They also have sweet soy sauce, sesame sauce, sesame seeds, sriracha, and chili oil on the side on each table. When we got here at around 11:30am, it was mad packed. One of the biggest ripoffs. How can you expect to serve this type squid tentacles for 8 dollars ? Are you out of your minds ? They used to have fried squid tentacles that came with a batter... Everything was so salty. My fiancé and I had to drink 2 bottles of water after lunch. The rice rolls had all this soy sauce (it wasn't the sweet kind either). Normally, I would expect places to give the soy sauce on the side. The squid was drenched in salt to hide the stench. You can tell it's not fresh. Save your money. If you want congee and rice rolls, go to Chartwell Shopping centre. I don't get what's good about this place. Most food courts that serve rice rolls and congee taste so much better... I caution you that the congee they serve is very hot, which is perfect in my opinion but make sure you get smaller bowls to consume it or you might accidently burn yourself. My Wife and I were in the mood for congee breakfast. The price was right for our budget. Service was just ok. Slight language barrier here. We order preserved egg & pork congee, bbq pork rice noodle roll & calamari tentacles. All that for around $16 bux. Less than we would have spent at our normal congee spot, Congee Town. Only issue with the food was the calamari was too salty for our liking, we ended up taking that home, though I did like the fact the tentacles were larger than other places. Oh their style of rice noodle rolls isn't the smooth type. I've read another another reviewer calling it "scraped" it may not look as presentable, but for us it still tasted ok. Also, as for portion size as compared to other spots we've had rice noodle rolls, they give more here. They have extra condiments which other places we've visited don't have which includes; sesame seeds, sweet sauce & peanut sauce for use with rice rolls/congee etc. The sesame seeds and sweet sauce did the trick for me. I deducted 1 star due to for method of payment is CASH ONLY. Debit & Credit not accepted. Would definitely go back for congee and rice noodle rolls, not for the fried items. Yes, the place is kinda grimey (- one star), but the food is is fresh, fast, tasty, and properly made. They're best known for their cheung fun which you can get filled with an assortment of meats or veggies and is made to order. We ordered a variety: one with egg and veggies, another with pork, and when we couldn't get enough, a third one with beef. All I can say is wow! I've had rice noodle rolls my whole life but nothing has ever tasted as good as these ones. Usually the ones they serve in restaurants are a lot thicker but the ones here are paper thin so they almost appear shriveled up when steamed. But the result is fantastic. It's bursting with flavor and has the perfect amount of ratio of noodle to filling. We also tried their congee and beef brisket noodles which were great as well. I prefer my rice noodle rolls in rolls because that's what I grew up with, but I have to say that the scraped version is beginning to grow on me. This one is the scraped kind, and it's mixed with egg and chopped cabbage. This one is so simple and so delightful! The salt from the soy sauce and the sweetness of the cabbage work together marvelously. I was going to the the BBQ pork roll, which is my go-to, but I'm glad I decided to get this one instead. Fish head and belly congee - They have a few fish congees. I should have mentioned that in my last review. For those of you who aren't into bones, this is not the congee for you. I actually had half a fish head in my congee, eyeball and everything. This is a good thing. It means they got my order right. There's a good amount of ginger slivers in this congee, so if you're not a ginger fan, ask them not to put it in. I forgot. Oops. This congee comes with white pepper already in it. It's not spicy. It adds flavor. Funny story of the night. We were the last customers seated in the restaurant. This place is awesome!! I'm a pasty white guy who can't understand the menu, but point and order has worked a treat for me. I will admit that the place is small, and some would consider less than immaculately clean, but the food is fresh, hot, and quite good. The lovely young woman who serves me every time I go there, knows that I can't figure out the menu, but remembers what I order each visit and asks me if I want the same thing or something new.
