I'm so glad this pharmacy is nearby. The price difference in my medications between them and Walgreens is absolutely insane--honestly, it should be illegal. Walgreens is 100% overcharging. I get my prescriptions here, and I can usually get them relatively quickly. They give me Chinese explanations that I can't read, so would recommend both English & Chinese. They have most of the basic toiletries & first aid that I need, and appreciate having a pharmacy in the neighborhood. You just need to go during business hours. read more

This review is for Cici Cheung, pharmacist. I came to New Oakland Pharmacy to get a COVID vaccine, and I brought my voucher from the Bridge Access Program (free COVID vaccines for uninsured patients). It's a new program, and I was the first person to go to that pharmacy with a voucher. There were some unanticipated bureaucratic challenges to work through. Cici was very dedicated- she called the program and invested considerable time to make sure that I could get my vaccine booster. Now I'm boosted and grateful for the additional protection. By the way, the Bridge Access Program coordinator I spoke with on the phone was also very dedicated to improving the program so that other patients don't have the same experience I had, so don't be discouraged that it took me some extra time; hopefully it will be smoother for other patients in the future. read more

New Oakland Pharmacy closes at 6, an hour after most doc offices are closed. during normal hours, there's a mini post office inside. a station to process att. & edmud payments and a general store ala walgreens. parking is difficult. sometimes i just park in front and run in to drop off my payments. read more

Last month, I was given a 90 day supply, but my pill bottle contained 30. To make a long story short, I had to talk to the pharmacist about my situation the other day because they refused to give me a refill. I told her that my medication is not a controlled substance and has ZERO resale value on the black market. Therefore, I have to no reason to lie or sell my pills. She agreed to giving me the missing 60 pills, and that she will make a note of this in my file. I am 100% sure that she wouldn't have replaced the pills if they were a schedule IV controlled substance. From now on, I will have to count all my pills before leaving the pharmacy. read more

The hours of this place isn't the best out there. Like every other non-restaurant in Oakland Chinatown, this place seems to close after sundown. If you are already in Chinatown, this is a perfect place to run errands. Has post office inside and you can pay your PG&E bills here as well. I wouldn't go to Chinatown just to patronize this business. There are so many places closer to me (and with better parking) that does the things the New Oakland Pharmacy does. However, if you are already in Chinatown buying groceries, this place may complete your trip. read more

This is for their PG&E payment service. I stood in line for about 15 minutes to be turned away. It was my first time making an in-person payment and I had a roll of dimes ($5) in addition to my paper bills. She pointed a small sign on the left side counter that states they do not accept more than ten coins. I apologized and told her it's my first time and that I've been in this line for awhile and I only brought the exact amount to pay my bill. They spoke in Chinese among each other and denied my payment. Since when was coins an unacceptable method of payment? Absurd, in my honest opinion. I don't recommend this place at all. I don't come here much but today I had a rude encounter so have to voice myself. I walked in with my son and handed the postal service person a letter to mail out. She looked at me and said "next time drop it off at the mailbox outside". Serious, that was all she said to me. Rude! I was going to say something to her but didn't want to get fired up so early in the morning. I gave her a smile and walked out. As I walked away I told my son my intention to still mail my payments for bills is because I want to do my part to help the postal service to have a purpose to exist. I should have known that they like to close shop 30 min before what they actually post...*sigh* I rushed to Chinatown for my order finding it closed. The steel gates shut...and the pharmacy desk way in the back pointing and laughing at me. I let out a huge "Noooooooooooooo!" so loud people @ sweetheart could hear me. I became really sick this Sunday evening (obviously the worst time to get sick!) and had a final exam the following day. I was having a terribly bad case of the Monday's! I got 3 hours of sleep and fell asleep with my doctor's phone number scribbled on a post-it in my hand, woke up when the office opened and made a same day appt before my class. The appt. took a little longer than usual, which is expected if you are being squeezed in to see the dr. the same day. After my appt. ended, I had just about an hour to drive to the pharmacy, find a parking spot IN CHINATOWN AT LUNCHTIME (!), and get to class. I usually go to the location around the corner, but this time my dr's prescription specifically noted to come to Webster and while I am 100% sure I would've gotten the same service at both places, I am extremely thankful for the kind people at Webster's location today. They truly went above and way beyond! When I arrived, I asked when they closed to see if I could pick it up after my 4hr class but there was no way I could make it in time. Plus, I REALLY needed to take the medicine immediately. After I told the woman at the drop-off counter that I wouldn't be able to make it before they closed, she wrote "rush" on my order and asked me to wait a few mins. She was quoting a 2-hr turnaround time for everyone who dropped off their prescriptions, but knew I was in a rush and did what she could to help me. I heard her tell the staff in Chinese that I had a class and asked them to take care of mine first. While perusing the shelves, a man at the pick-up counter called for my attention nicely and said mine would be ready soon. While three people were in line to pick up their prescriptions, mine was handed over to the man at the pick-up counter and he called me over and prioritized my order and set me on my way. The whole trip here was about 10mins and during that time, so many people came in to drop off/pick up their prescriptions. I heard the woman speak to customers in different dialects of Chinese, they are so accommodating to their customers and treat everyone so nicely. It's such a busy place and I am so grateful for the kind people who work here. This is truly a place that delivers health care with quality, efficiency, and their genuine care for your well being. I appreciate what they do for our Asian community: providing care and medication in several Asian languages and being in the heart of Chinatown where it is easily accesible/convenient. What they did for me today was more than I could ask for. I had enough time to grab a much needed snack before class and get to class a little early. I feel so much better thanks to them! read more

There is this one cashier working in the pharmacy that is very rude (I wish I had gotten her name). She talks down to and practically insults seniors for being stupid because they aren't aware of certain policies. If it were not in Chinatown, among indefensible Asian seniors, she would be fired. The pharmacist himself is somewhat helpful. But because of that b----- woman, we moved all our RX to CVS. read more

You can pay your electric bill here which is great but they stop taking payments at 3 which is way too early .

The pharmacy clerks were very rude to customers, which mostly comprise of local senior Chinese residents. They speak to them in a demeaning manner, are particularly insensitive, and lack patience. I, as an observer, am deeply offended. The staff can use a lesson on compassion in healthcare. If you do not enjoy working with the population you serve, you should find another job. read more
