Well, first I was stalked by the security guard as he proceeded to dance in front of me. I was picking up a new prescription and requested a pharmacist consultation and he proceeded to inform me with as little information as possible until I continuously prompted him for more. Even though this CVS was my closest drugstore at one time, I rarely frequented it. Maybe it's the tucked away nature of the location and the fact only one of two entrances are available. However, in times of great laziness or when I happen to be strolling past their parking lot, I would pay a visit to this location. I made use of the photo printing machine for my passport photo, half & half when I wasn't as intolerant of dairy, and a couple OTC items when I was in a pinch. read more

Disappointment service and lack of accountability from pharmacy reps. After CVS requested unnecessary PA to fulfill my already approved prescription, they missed the prescription deadline before insurance expired. I requested refill with plenty of time for this not to happen, but they dropped the ball big time. So instead of paying a 50 copay, CVS charged full price (over 1k). Luckily, I've a new insurance kicking in and although I may need to skip a dose or two, I will continue to receive care. If someone else was in this situation without additional coverage, this could've been devastation. Shame shame.. read more

This place is emblematic of Oakland's deficiencies as a whole. It looks ok from the outside but the inside is another story. Products here seem to be 20% to 30% higher here than elsewhere in Oakland which is already high priced and has high sales taxes. The front counter is laid out like they're expecting to be robbed and the security guard has his face covered like he's a member of the Mexican armed forces. I don't need prescriptions or customer service but that sounds awful here judging by other reviews. This place gets one star because I found most (but not all) of what I was looking to buy recently, even though it was all quite overpriced. My neighbor has cancer and is in a lot of pain. I went to this pharmacy to pick up her pain prescription. The line was almost out the door, and the pharmacy was seriously understaffed. I waited 1/2 hour in line, and then the guy told me he needed my neighbor's date of birth. I left my phone at home and asked him if he could dial her number and let me use their phone to call her. He said he didn't have time. I left, got her date of birth and came back a few minutes later. Then he told me the prescription had just come in. I waited 20 or more minutes, and then was told the pharmacist said she didn't have time to fill it. Now my neighbor will be in pain all night and much of tomorrow morning, thanks to their bad customer service. Here's what should have happened: The pharmacy should be adequately staffed so that people are helped in a timely manner. No one should not have to wait in line 30 minutes or more. The pharmacist should have called my neighbor as I requested, so I could get her DOB without driving away and coming back. All he had to do was look up her phone number and dial it for me. If they didn't have her Rx in the pharmacy, he should have been able to call the provider and get the prescription info. If these things had happened, they would have been able to fill her prescription and she wouldn't be in pain right now. Since they didn't fill it, he should have offered to send the Rx to another CVS in the area that's open later. Now I know why this pharmacy has such a bad rating on Yelp. Afterward I went home, looked online and tried to find a CVS that's open later. The CVS on 41st St near Piedmont Ave says it's open until 10. At 8PM I tried to call them at the number listed online: 510-658-3946. I just got a recording that said "leave a message" with no identifier or info about their location or hours. Again, this is very unprofessional customer service. read more

Worst.Pharmacy.Ever. They have refused to recognize valid prescriptions telling me I don't understand. They keep all your medicines locked online so you cannot order manually. I have had a pharmacist yell at me for no good reason and also lie to me: He said a refill had been sent to the doctor and while I was there he finally admitted he lied. The make refills available long after your insurance says you are eligible for a refill -- Effectively they stand in the way of you getting all your insurance benefits. The staff is rude, nasty, inefficient, seemingly incompetent. Regularly claim there are no refills and tell me to call the doctor. I tried this place b/c it is closer to my new residence than my old Walgreens -- Complete train wreck. Took over 3 weeks and multiple calls. Wrongly I was told "Never received it from Walgreens" -- but Walgreens had transferred all Rx's. At first they claimed they would call Walgreens to get all my prescriptions -- Then, about week 2 they started telling me I had to call Walgreens. I told them Walgreens says you have the scripts -- Their answer was "WEll, don't know what to tell ya'". I have had Lena(sp?) yell at me and hang up on me twice on one occasion. When I called back and someone else answered, I heard Lena in the background say, "Is that Jesse? Just hang up"! It would be sort of comical if my health and well-being were not at stake. I have several doctors in the Bay Area -- but on one medication they had a phone number for a VA in the Bronx and they said they could not fix the phone number!! The hold times for calling are excessive -- In fact, right now I have been on hold for an 45 minutes merely to call in a refill. The pharmacy regularly contradicts what is shown in your online CVS account. When they make a mistake (often) they never admit and instead condescendingly say that you are not understanding (basic info). I have several medications I must take. Over the years, living in different places, I have had over 10 regular pharmacies, some great, some average. However, I have never before experienced the disrespect and incompetence I do at this particular pharmacy. I cannot wait until I have all of my prescriptions transferred back Walgreens. Yes, it is that bad! There is a glaring exception to all of the foregoing and it must be expressly mentioned. KEITH in the pharmacy is absolutely wonderful -- kind, patient, competent, incredibly efficient and reliable. By the grace of the universe I had the good fortune and pleasure of Keith's assistance during my two most recent calls to this CVS. If everyone working in this pharmacy worked like Keith, it would be Best.Pharmacy.Ever. If 50% of the people there worked like Keith I would keep going there. If 25% of the people worked like Keith I would keep going there. If I could work with Keith and only Keith, I would keep going there. I'm moving all my scripts back to Walgreens on 3rd Ave. and E. 18th. For many years they were absolutely fabulous. They too have been hit by the national pharmacy crisis, yet they are still very good (as I now know having tried this CVS). And, there is a drive-up window so you can sit in your car as you wait to be served. This place is not close to my new residence, but it definitely is worth the drive. 5 STARS go to the staff at this CVS for staying positive and friendly despite what they have to deal with. A customer was being very mean and disrespectful to an employee for not having something she wanted in stock. The employee was so kind and patient the whole time. Later, when being rung up, she then complained about not getting her .42 off her purchase with a coupon she thought she had. Again, the employee patiently heard her out. I'm not sure why people think they can treat other people this way-she was rude and mean and he was kind and patient. This is a great place to get a vaccine - they've got all kinds and they're well set up for it. It's pretty quiet, parking is paid only (so come ready for that), and there's often a bit of a wait to pick up prescriptions or sign in for a vaccine because it's near an assisted living place and a lot of the residents pick up their prescriptions here. Be patient with them. In any case the staff and pharmacists here are friendly and it's generally a convenient spot, so this is my drugstore of choice. read more

This CVS pharmacy refused to honor a couple from GoodRX. I take Adderall for ADHD, and my doctor ordered a prescription from this pharmacy in late February. The pharmacy was unable to fill the prescription for at least a week. Because I was laid off from my job, my medical insurance coverage ended on March 1. So because my coverage had expired I could not get the medication covered, even though it was ordered while I still had coverage. The out-of-pocket price was about $120. I was able to find a CVS coupon on GoodRX for $50 dollars. But I was told that this SPECIFIC CVS does not accept coupons for controlled substances. I can't imagine what kind of scam they are hoping to prevent, but it's cruel to charge me more; this was a legit prescription from a psychiatrist. To resolve the issue, I needed to contact my old psychiatrist even though I'm no longer covered under his network and ask him to send the same prescription to the CVS in Alameda, where they will accept my coupon. ---- I also want to add that this CVS is understaffed. The lines are extremely long. All the toothpastes are behind locked shelves. I pressed the "help" button and waited for several minutes and nobdy came to help me. I WAS UNABLE TO BUY TOOTHPASTE AT THIS CVS. Brick-and-mortar businesses complain about people buying everything online but they are giving worse and worse customer service. They lock everything up so nothing gets stolen, but they lose customers like me. I know of 3 CVSs in the area that have closed. I will never buy anything from this CVS again, in fact, I shoplifted some sunglasses on the way out. --- I once met the regional manager for CVS. HIs name is Oliver. He was a nice guy. He complained about shoplifting and said if it were up to him the security guards would be allowed to use force against shoplifters. As it stands now, he says that security guards at CVS stores are only there as a deterrent; they are literally not allowed to stop people for shoplifting. So I encourage everybody to steal as much stuff from CVS as possible. If they're not going to make any effort to maintain a decent customer experience in changing times, I say to hell with them. read more

I go here frequently and most of the staff has been friendly and helpful for me. I'm not expecting 7-star-hotel treatment, but everyone does their jobs. It's a convenient place to buy stuff later in the evening. They don't always have everything, but again, make sure you have the right expectations for a small chain pharmacy. The outdoor garbage cans are overflowing and the sidewalks are filthy. The check out lines are always long. The "security guard" has his head buried in his phone. The management clearly has no respect for its employees or customers. Who would want to work in that environment? I shop there only because it is convenient and my insurance requires me to go to CVS. How is it possible that drug dealers have pain medication and you don't ? But you have pain medication for white peoples. What kind of crap is that. Terrible location for your medication. I called in the morning and was told my medication WAS in stock and it would be done before lunch. (Mind you this is a VERY important medication that is needed every day for prevention). When I finally stopped by, I was told that my medication was not in stock and that I could have the amount needed for the DAY but I have to wait a week im order to receive the next batch. I use to go to the Broadway location which was AMAZING but unfortunately they closed and I have no choice but to go to this one because it's closest to home and I cannot transport via car. So if you want your medication same-day and want to make sure staff is going to double check that your medication is truly in-stock PLEASE go find another location. WOW, I am so impressive to have the excellent service by ALLA at the casher. I have received services twice from her recently and she is very proactive and friendly with a smiling face. When I used coupons, she is helpful and willing to adjust the prices well. It makes me to buy more stuffs with good deals at this location CVS. This is a review for the photo services and customer service (I did not use pharmacy). About a month ago I ordered prints online and picked them up and they were so bad I couldn't use them (was going to give them as a gift to my husband's grandma). Unfortunately I didn't manage to return them like I planned. Then today I (stupidly, given prior experience) went in to get passport photos for me and my daughter. The quality was terrible and we both looked awful. I was not allowed to see the options to choose the best shot, and the quality itself was really bad, like it wasn't properly lined up. When I mentioned this the worker said yeah, a phone is much better than the camera they use. He offered to retake with my phone but would have charged me again! It cost me $37 for 2 sets of 2 photos!! Claiming that they passed for passport photos, he refused to let me retake or just not get them. Very bad customer service and quality. Worst pharmacy ever. The men talk are so condesending and just look at you while making rude assumptions of your knowledge of your prescriptions. I had to send my son to get my prescriptions and KEITH told him that his mom must have sent him to the wrong store! They will blame any unfilled prescriptions on your doctor when they are not filled and there are refills left. If they have to contact them when you dont have any refills left, they will lie and say they did their part but your foctor is the problem. Only the younger women are nice but there is a tall older one who will actually roll her eyes at you, for no reason! I have filed complaints with their head office, who apologizes but when you go back in, more attitude. I transferred there since they are near my job. Bad mistake .. transferring out of i can ever get my latest refills. They claim they have not been filled or too early to refill but online they show online as ready. Every parking spot is a pay per park spot. Even if you need just to pick up a prescription, expect to add time or money to your visit because you need to get a parking ticket, or park a mile away for free. & the pharmacy staff is pretty rude, I am sure you have heard it from other people writing reviews. I never write reviews. I work in retail, so I understand what it's like to deal with people all day. I totally get it. However after visiting this cvs I felt compelled to express my experience here. I was carrying a tall stack of boxes that I needed to ship through their UPS drop off. I was redirected by a very nice lady to a different cash register because the one I went to was slightly busy. Once I got to the other one, the UPS clerk was jumping on his break. Totally understandable. What I don't think was very reasonable was who I assume was the manager, immediately snapped at me. "What do you want?" I told him I was just dropping some boxes off. "Well my guy is going to lunch, do you expect him to work off the clock?" Uhhh... what's going on..? I just have some boxes, if no one can help me, just tell me that...? There's a ups store not too far, Ill happily go there instead. "Either just leave the boxes here without a receipt or go somewhere else." Yikes. You got it buddy lol.
