I do takeouts from New Peking frequently. I like chinese BBQ spare ribs a lot so I tried to order those from various takeouts to see who's the best. Boy, was I disappointed in the spare ribs here. First off, the container pouch was light in weight so I knew it was gonna be bad. But had no idea that on tinside, each rib is as thin as paper. There was virtually no meat. And whatever meat left on there, they were burned to a crisp. Not worth the ~$7. Worst spare ribs in NY hands down. See for yourself. Update: also tried the fried half chicken today. The meat was dried out, I'm talking about a breast that was leather to begin with, then deep fried until it tastes like chalk. I'll just say Never again.

Small beef chowfun cooked perfectly to my specifications, low oil, low salt, and no msg =)

I have been living in this neighborhood for 8 years, yet I only visited this establishment for the first time yesterday, all because I had an urgent craving for chow fun (stir-fried broad rice noodles). I called to place my pick-up order and I asked for a small beef chow fun with low oil, low salt, and no msg. When I picked up my order, it was cooked exactly to my satisfaction and it tasted quite good! I usually don't order from Chinese take-out restaurants, but I will definitely be going back when the craving strikes again =)

I love me some bad for you Chinese takeout.

(New) Peking Kitchen is, by far, my favorite take-out spot in the JH/Woodside/Elmhurst area. The service is super friendly and ridiculously fast-with the kitchen churning out 2 orders a minute. (The delivery times are also pretty quick). The large staff here always seem to be enjoying themselves. They're also always willing to accommodate customers (yay, extra spicy-extra crispy sesame chicken!) requests. Cash only!

The restaurant is a few blocks from the main street of Steinway so it'll take a bit of searching. Going inside, the area is rather abstract. Pink flower wallpaper on one end and dry wall on the other, it's kinda off-putting but I didn't come here for the atmosphere anyway. Service was lukewarm, I got my order in but the two workers inside weren't too receptive and the menu itself is kinda barebones with most of their food being a bit more than I would like to pay for so I just settled on one order of Singapore Mei Fun. After waiting 10 minutes for my food to arrive, the Singapore noodles which are usually spicy were kinda salty but it was nothing a bit of duck sauce wouldn't fix. This one order cost $17 while not the worst Singapore Mei Fun...well technically it is, even though it's not horrible but I've had much better from other places for a stable price of $12. Yeah, a rather disappointing visit. Not the worst I've ever had but could be so much better.

I got the wonton soup and pork juicy buns. The soup was different from other wonton soups with the addition of cilantro and some nice balancing flavors for the salt, and the juicy buns were your classic soup dumplings with a very nice rich sauce to dip in. The dandan noodles my friend ordered were maybe my favorite, they were the perfect level of spicy and so flavorful without being overwhelming. I'd go back just for my own plate of those. The service was quite fast, and it's a cute little shop that feels like a small town Chinese restaurant. Very reasonably priced as well. Some of my favorite Chinese food I've found outside of Lower Manhattan !

We went a second time because our first experience was so good that we wanted to try their other dishes, and now after the second time, we can't wait to return for a third. We definitely need to return with a bigger group the next time we go so that we can try more of their dishes! Our second time there, we had the "Night Market Chow Fun" and the "Chongqing Braised Beef." Both were excellent! Probably my favorite Chow fun now and the Chongqing braised beef was so tender and had all the szechuan tingly spices that open up your taste buds and sensories. We LOVED both dishes. It had the 3 chili pepper sign and the server warned us that it was very spicy, and IT WAS -- in all the good ways. May not be for the faint, though, so be careful. Not sure if they can adjust the spiciness. We enjoy their "film set" ambiance, giving it a cooler dining experience than your normal authentic casual space -- adds some flare for a date night or for friends. MUST RETURN FOR MORE!

It has a nice interior and I suspect may get busy during peak hours, although I was able to slip in at the bar just fine. I tried the Lucky Coin tofu. It was good! It was a bit spicy for my palate, though I'm glad I stuck with it. Be sure to order it with rice -- they initially served it without, and it definitely needs it.
