About half of the thyme in the walkway has died. On further investigation I find that it was just stuck on the ground with no drip irrigation to it all. (Will attach photos) It took a few weeks for this to become apparent as she and her crew did a very thorough job of hand watering everything before they left. So of course, the failure to install irrigation to those plants didn't show up for a couple of days. This after she assured me that her crew had checked all the irrigation and that it was fine. I am still trying to figure out how to deal with the little loops of irrigation tubing that are sticking up in the middle of the pathway, embedded in the DG. Also some of the pavers by the sidewalk are starting to lift, one is as much as 1/2 inch higher than the sidewalk...and it hasn't even begun to rain yet. No wonder she insisted on being paid on the spot. Stay away from Garden Girls.

The crew came in the morning before I left for work, and again listened to what I wanted to have done. Not only was it exactly what I needed, they even took an extra step and leveled out the back yard for me too. I am so pleased to have my jungle gone and my yard back! If I am ever at the point where I can afford to have someone maintain my yard for me, I am coming back here if they are still around at that point.

We had a broken line (one that Ken had worked on recently). As soon as I saw that we had an issue with our irrigation system, I contacted Ken. His response was "Sure Tuesday or Thursday it would be at the end of the day." Great- this is the kind of prompt response you would be glad to receive, if there was follow-through...But there wasn't... he didn't show up at all that week. Then when he admitted to not completing his commitment and I asked to please get to it earlier than "the following Wednesday." He refused and said go find someone else. Thanks, I will.

He would not give me an actual time, even though I asked. I put in on my calendar and waited. Day of the appointment we were really busy around the house trying to get things ready for an event. I expected Ken to show up "afternoon or evening" whatever that meant. I guess I was supposed to be checking my phone the whole day hoping he would contact me, but I was busy and figured he'd show up like he said. Nope. Later I saw a text from him about a time and wrote him back and nothing. I apologized for not seeing his text earlier and wrote him a couple times over the course of a week. No response at all. So, if you want to deal with a guy who seems to think he's doing you a favor, won't give an appointment time, and just has an attitude, then Ken Smith might be the clown for you.

We finally decided to work with Jerry. Jerry was responsive and respectful to our time. He listened and worked with our budget. He kept us up to date with the project. Sylvester came out to review the site and took some preliminary measurements…read more Over the next few days we discussed the design and the seam. I've seen several other jobs where the seam was still visible after the contractor completed their work. Sylvester and I discussed this potential issue and he told me he uses a special s curved jig to blend the seam together. We discussed the scope for work, the different materials of each layer, a start date and most importantly the price which was better than those national brands and large artificial grass companies. Sylvester contacted me the day prior to the start date confirming the time they would there. The next day, they showed up on time! we sprayed an outline of our design. Not your basic straight line edges that's easy... ours had curves... they started work and bang, 2 and a half days later it was completed and it looks great. In this day of age, it's difficult to find a contractor that responds to calls, shows up when they say they will and are great communicating with their client and putting them at ease. Note: Sylvester was on site most of the time. While on site, he works with his crew. When he wasn't he was picking up materials and only gone for a short time. I'd recommend Sylvester at SJ yard works for their artificial grass installations.

I will upload up a picture of the Symar stone wall they built - there are few if any Symar walls that can compete with this - you judge yourself. After that good experience, I had them do the softscape - this was a large project with soil improvements, irrigation, planting (including some large olive trees) - 15 separate zones. It all went great. Lucio is the man in charge, and after so many good experiences we asked him for everything: he has built some fantastic raised beds (will upload picture), did the landscape lighting (he pointed us to a better supplier than our landscape designer did), fixed the land slides of the banks (adding some netting and wood chips that I didn't think would work but survived this crazy rainy 2017), and even got my tractor pushed out of the mud it was stuck into. When you hire Lucio, you get a new family member! Highly recommended.
