We did not have time for dinner that day, and this is the closest open place at 8:30 pm. So we just decided to try our luck. It turned out to be a really nice restaurant! To be fair, I have never been to Vietnam but I am always a fan of Vietnamese food. Compare to all other Vietnamese places I've been to (maybe 4), this restaurant serves good enough Vietnamese food based on my standard. No extra fancy dinnerware or arrangement, just fresh and good taste even though we were their very last guests. Also extremely affordable. Two of us (a boy and a girl) barely finished two entree and one appetizer, with the cost about 25$. I would definitely like to try other dishes in the future. Came here based on reviews. Their sign is a little difficult to see as you're trying to find the place. It's actually bigger inside than what it looks from outside. Very clean! We were seated immediately and drinks were served within minutes. We ordered pho and vermicelli, both of which were disappointing. The broth in the pho lacked flavor as well as the fish sauce for the vermicelli. Both very bland, causing us to drench our meal in sriracha and hoisin sauce. Service is expected, slow and inattentive as every other Asian restaurant. My beau noticed how they don't already provide condiments and/or utensils on their tables as most places. The tables are on the smaller side so it might be reasonable to not have them. Prices are fair for portions, pretty much comparable to everywhere else. I'm unsure as to how they received such great reviews, but based on my meal experience I'm a little hesitant to come back. read more

The Vietnamese coffee was a fluke that day in my other review. I have tried it 3 other times and it was just average those times. Also, every time I come here I pay a different price for the same food. The cashier always claims that they haven't updated their menu prices yet... for 6 months running. They also have a nasty habit of rounding up the bill to an even number. When everything ends in 0.95, its very unlikely to have the bill end up as .00. Therefore, they are overcharging you, which is illegal. And while not a problem for most people since this is about the most expensive Vietnamese food you can encounter in this city, their $15 credit card minimum violates Dodd-Frank law which sets a maximum $10 minimum. First time ordering from New Saigon and it reminds me of what the other Saigon used to be. The food is well-prepared, clean-tasting and not overly salty. Due to the COVID outbreak, they are not delivery so we ordered ahead and picked up the order. As soon as we got home I threw out/recycled all packaging and transferred the food to my own serving bowls and then washed my hands. We ordered fresh spring rolls, fried egg rolls, pad thai, chicken noodle soup, grilled chicken with vermicelli, and rice with chicken sauteed with lemon grass. The pad thai was on the sweeter side, but adding a hot sauce like sriracha tamed it. Everything else was spot on in flavor. This will be our go-to take-out place when in the mood for vietnamese/thai food. Happy to be supporting local restaurants! read more

As good as it gets in Boston for Pho and Vietnamese food. Quality and customer service is what separate them. Pho is very good (Phi Linh in Quincy might be a little bit better). We found this place by accident. It is a very simple, almost hole in the wall location. The food was amazing. It was near closing but they still fit us in. The portions were huge, we got one dish per person and that was enough for two meals. Everything was freshly made. The Salmon in Black Bean Sauce was literally the best salmon anyone in our family had ever tasted. The fresh coconut juice was really freshly prepared. This is a great little hole in the wall with delicious food. I can't speak to its authenticity since I am not Vietnamese but it's always fresh and yummy. The inside could use some updating but it's always clean. I've had the fresh spring rolls, the pho, a vermicelli dish and a yellow noodle dish. They have all been fresh and delicious. They seem to have brought back their bubble tea so thats nice and I've also come back to visit many times afterwards to the point where they've begun to memorize my order which is always nice to see. My impressions of the restaurant have only gone up since and thats why I'm gonna bump the review to a 4 , one thing I have to say though is that a lot of times they will seat me in this corner of the restaurant which is out of site of the counter the host is server is usually standing by causing him to never really come over and ask how it's going. This usually results in me having to get up whenever I'm done or need something which isn't a huge issue for me but they never bring out sauce plates so I feel the need to do it often. Also this just seemed odd to me but playing Kitchen Nightmares reruns on your tv probably isn't a good idea to play in a restaurant. read more

This place is the real deal. My fiancée is Vietnamese and this is on our weekly rotation. Their pho is great, bbh is solid and pretty much everything we have tried has been as good as could be expected. We live in the area and always used to travel into the city for Vietnamese. This place is better. Do yourself a favor and go! UPDATE*** - recently changed ownership who has changed many of the signature dishes for the worse - pho is drastically different (very fatty) and crab rangoons different and not in a good way. Super disappointing that new ownership would mess with the recipes since this was one of our favorite spots for dinner. read more

Been looking for Vietnamese food this good ever since PhoLynn closed years ago now. It has become our go to place for the best Vietnamese food I've ever had. Everything is fresh, fresh, fresh; pho broth is exquisitely flavored with subtle undertones and served with a plate of perfectly fresh basil , sprouts, slices of jalapeno and lime. Whatever you order in your pho, it's divine. Dumplings are addictive: small pockets of flavor you won't find often. We order three, eat some, and take some home. Often we have to get another order if we want some at home. Three of us usually order our 'usuals' ...like a pho, a vermicelli bowl, a rice plate with grilled pork, or some such thing, then try something we haven't had before to share. Never been disappointed...flavors always on pitch. Physically, the restaurant is a hole in the wall...to me often the places to find some of the best food in the world. Who cares what the place looks like when you get food as flavorful, fresh, and varied as New Saigon. I'd give it 10:stars if I could. During the pandemic height, we did take out From New Saigon, driving an hour + round trip...always worth it. They are as careful with take out as they are with serving you, separating things so they stay fresh and letting you combine them yourself. In house service is always pleasant, prompt, and non invasive. Anyone who has read my reviews knows I don't usually gush. We didn't expect much, but we were surprised when the pho turned out to be good. The meat was generous and the broth was authentically delicious. Price is just right for a bowl of Pho. Went to this place because it was close and was craving some pho. Didn't feel like going all the way into the city (i.e. chinatown). I would say it's not as good as pho pasteur, though most places aren't. The pho here is actually pretty good and I would definitely come back and get it again. We also got an order of beef lo mein which was surprisingly delicious, the meat was pretty flavorful and there were a lot of veggies in the dish. My coworkers, customers, and seemingly everyone that I talk to in East Boston swears by this place. Thanks to a friend with a head cold, I finally tried it out. I enjoy pho, and many other traditional foods, this business lacked the cleanliness, attentiveness and attention to detail I feel it should have, especially since they compete with another area restaurant. It was slightly warm, and quiet. Food was not bad, service was awkward, help only came when you sought it for several minutes. Beef in soup was not tender as it typically is. And when asked to make soup spicy I was given bottle of store bought hot sauce. By comparison to it's competitor I found this disappointing. However the overall experience was not a deal breaker. This is our first time there. Ordered Pho Dac Biet and Tofu with ground pork for pick up. It was easy. We enjoyed the food very much!

Stopped by for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I had the vermicelli with shrimp and pork. The portion was quite large, and luckily I was hungry enough to finish most of it! The shrimp was a little plain, but the grilled pork was good. It was late in the afternoon so I feel like the meat may have been reheated. It wasn't bad, though. One strange thing I noticed was the noodles were cut so that they were about 2- 3 inches long. Is this an east coast thing or specific thing to this restaurant? It made it harder to get a big bite of the noodles. Skip the Vietnamese iced coffee. I got one to go to cool me down on the walk back to my hotel, but it was so disgusting I threw it away before I got back. I should have tasted it while I was at the restaurant.
