For a Friday night I was shocked it was so dead, but we got sat right away and service was fairly quick. But none of our food came out at one time. Our server brought our drinks quick. I got a Long Island but dear lord their sour mix tasted horrible. We had the spare ribs and the chicken katsu the spare ribs were small but some were super fatty, and the katsu sauce was honestly underwhelming. I got the pineapple fried rice. Problem with was one it's listed as marinated spareribs deep friend with a sweet chili sauce. I got what tasted like a curry rice with shrimp, imitation crab, and like three small pieces of chicken. A few more tables came in and the server didn't come back until we were ready to just leave so there was no point in asking for another dish because we just wanted to leave. I couldn't find what I got anywhere on their menu so I have no idea what I was served. It's sad cause I've had a dish here before and it was typical Chinese food, but this one has me not wanting to come back. From the time you walk in the door you were greeted with smiling hosts that are extremely accommodating and very friendly! There was a staple in my food. I felt something weird while I was eating my general tso's chicken, thinking it was a stem to a pepper or something... then realized it was a STAPLE. I can't even understand why a stapler would be used in the kitchen and get into my takeout food. I'm so grateful I didn't give that piece to my 1 year old. I really really wanted to have a great evening of sushi however I should have heeded the reviews and traveled into Boston. I was not greeted friendly but instead looked at like "what are you doing here" and that's okay - I know I'm scary! Haha any way the server was extremely nice however she should have told me the prices on the menu were not current because I expected $40 for myself and instead I was over $50 - again not a big deal if the sushi was phenomenal but this was sub par. The sushi maki combo was meant to be three different fishes and the server tried to tell me it was three different fishes but just have a look at the photo. To the guy who said he eats sushi from the east to the west coast and this is the best he's ever eaten - I can only guess it's because you're eating gas station sushi on your way here. Do yourself a favor - make the drive into Boston. Otherwise quiet little restaurant and the Thai food that I didn't try but saw go past looked pretty good. read more

I was hoping to find a reliable spot that delivered, but was unfortunately disappointed. I ordered 2 vegetarian sushi rolls (one Inari style), edamame, and rice. Delivery was quicker than the estimated arrival time, and the service was friendly. However, the meal was mediocre at best. The edamame did not taste fresh at all and was very undercooked/dry/bland; I could only eat a few. I had high hopes for the sushi, since it's pretty difficult to screw up vegetarian rolls, but it was below average and, again, it did not taste very fresh. The tofu skin was pretty lifeless in the Inari, and I was hoping to use the spicy mayo but it tasted a bit funky/watery. The side of ginger was probably the freshest thing in the bag. I ended up finishing my basic avo-cucumber roll and stuffing my face with the plain white rice to fill up. Sad to say, I will not be coming again :( read more

Cute little Asian restaurant serving sushi and Chinese food. Located in Winthrop, a cute little seaside town, Worth venturing out of Boston about 3 miles to enjoy some very tasty fare. I started with the Thai spicy soup. It's available with beef, shrimp or chicken. It's a great blend of Thai special spices coconut milk mushrooms and tomatoes a bargain at $4.95. I also tried the Kani Salad which is a very light delicate fluffy salad made from a mixture of shaved cucumber crabmeat with tobiko, spicy mayo and some wonderful tempura crunch another Boggan that only $5.95. And lastly I ordered the scallion pancake, it came with a side of ginger sauce which was a little bit too salty for me. I did however enjoy the pancake, it was light fluffy fried perfectly with just the right amount of scallion. I actually used it to dip into the Thai spicy soup fabulous it is a must try. The price for eight pieces of pancake $5.75. The restaurant interior itself is is nicely decorated with Asian Decour. This approximately 10 seats at the bar and then a couple high top tables and about 6 or 7 dining tables. The service was prompt, the food was served promptly and hot. Parking is on street only but spots are easily found. Considering my whole meal including tip came to $21 and change and the service was impeccable I give Osaka a strong four stars. read more

Been here many times before, but never for a poke bowl. Today after walking around a local park, we wanted to eat healthy, and decided tp split the Osaka poke bowl, take out , $17, and it was definitely enough for two. It was amazing. Incredibly fresh, and literally PACKED with salmon, shrimp, and tuna. Also had edame, corn, and sushi rice- a delicious lunch. read more

The garlic eggplant shows a bunch of vegetables in the photo but she said No only green peppers I asked if the poke bowl fish could be replaced with tofu She said no. Japanese don't do that. The first time I ordered from this joint (on Grubhub) I got hand rolls - which were some kind of ice cream cone looking seal. So, this last time I called them to make sure I got regular sushi rolls since I always eat with my girlfriend and one roll just doesn't make sense. Anyway, after 5 minutes on the phone I thought things were clear but when the food came I got the same stupid hand rolls. I called them back and after no admission of any guilt on their part they agreed to replace the rolls. I was told it would be 30-40 more minutes...they never came. I have ordered thousands of dollars of sushi in my lifetime and I have never once had an issue and now I have had back to back problems. I'm done with these nitwits. read more

Since re-opening, Osaka has gone downhill. The last two times I ordered delivery from them it was lacking. First time, ordered later in night, and the "sushi deluxe" did not contain any salmon. Delivery was also over an hour and the sushi was warm. Second order, tonight, the selection in the "deluxe" was better but the tuna was not impressive; the nigiri was pale, instead of deep red, and the roll was extremely small. Also I ordered an appetizer, naruto, which is made with eel and crab; mine just had crab (imitation). I feel like they have been cutting corners and skimping, not things you want associated with a sushi spot! Unfortunately they have lost a regular customer. read more

It took us a long time to find our go to sushi/sake place in the Boston area but THIS IS IT! 5/5 on affordability and selection. The specialty rolls are affordable (around $10-$15, most have about 8 pieces/roll)and DELICIOUS. They have a number of veggie roll options if that is your cup of tea. 5/5 on environment. It's cool and dark in the restaurant with nice decor. Perfect place to stop in after a beach day. (Also have a bad area to watch sports games) 5/5 on service: We have always had very nice servers. We didn't catch the name of our server yesterday (but said he was new) but he was SO nice, attentive, and very upbeat. We would gladly have him be our server every time!! This place is VERY hit or miss. Sometimes we order and it is great. Other times we are left saying we won't order from there again. Of course we always do order again because it's the only place in Winthrop that delivers sushi. Their sushi is also hit or miss, unfortunately. We used to order Chirashi (sashimi over sushi rice) from them all the time. It used to come with pickled daikon and Japanese gourd. They used to put octopus on it. Those days are long gone. It's basically bad supermarket sushi now with the cheaper fish options (looking at you, "white tuna" (escolar is gross) and that makes us very sad. If you like tofu DO NOT GET IT FROM HERE!!!!! They do not know how to cook tofu at all. It's horrible. There are some things they do right. Their general gao's chicken is (usually, but not always) very very good. They also have excellent wonton soup. Their customer service isn't the best either. We have called a few times about things gone wrong with orders and we have been met with attitude and defensive-ness. Example: we ordered Peking ravioli (which ended up having small, hard, inedible things in it) and the sauce that come with it wasn't included. When we called about it we were told "you have to ask for it" Um, ok. Literally the only place we have ever been to that has said that. This place is cheap and you get what you pay for. I wouldn't give this garbage to a seagull. The chicken fingers taste like they saved them from someone's plate instead of throwing them away to make new ones. I found all sorts of unrecognizable things that were rock hard and couldn't chew through in my lobster sauce that looked like fingernails. They definitely do not use quality or fresh ingredients. We wanted to find another amazing Asian food spot in East Boston and we got lucky with Osaka Lucky Garden. The ordering process was quick and easy and the employee who answered the phone was extremely friendly and helpful. The person who delivered our food was just as nice and that's always a plus when getting takeout. As always we had to get hot and sour soup and WOWWW did this one leave a lasting impression on me. The white pepper flavor was incredible and it was a spicy one for sure. It didn't have too much of a sour flavor at all and it was a perfectly balanced soup, full of mushrooms, egg, tofu and other vegetables. You gotta appreciate a good soup like that because you don't find them often. We ordered the chicken fried rice which was full of flavor, and had what felt like a pound of chicken in it. Such a good deal because so many chicken fried rice dishes only have a few pieces in it and this one hit the mark. The vegetable lo mein we ordered was also great, with tons of sauce and vegetables in it. So many lo meins lack flavor or are just too dry and this one was neither, which means it's our new go-to spot for lo mein. Lastly we got the General Tso's chicken. It was made with good quality chicken, a nice fried coating and an almost perfect sauce. It was nice and spicy which I feel like most general Tso's are missing. It was great with a little bit of fried rice and made this meal one to remember. I can't stress enough how great this spot is and hope everybody enjoys it just as much as I did. read more

I had to drop something off for a friend who lives in Winthrop and I missed my bus back to Orient Heights, and although one of my favorite things to do *ever* is to wander around Winthrop taking artsy photos of all the cute and picturesque things I see, it was too frigid for me to sant to stay outside for long, and I was eager to find a warm place where I could hang out until the next bus came. Luckily, Osaka Lucky Garden was right around the corner! It ended up being the perfect place to warm up: everything about the restaurant was warm, from the service to the ambiance to the food. The woman who waited on me was super sweet and was not awkward at all about me dining alone (I find that some servers seem to feel vicariously uncomfortable for me when I eat alone, even though I'm perfectly content). Her timing was great and she didn't hound me. It was a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all -- there was only ever one other table occupied while I was there (although a couple sat down at the bar as I was leaving) -- but it felt comfortable and friendly, not cold or too quiet. There were two guys behind the sushi counter and they were in full uniform even though it was slow. Everyone was friendly and professional! The decor was well done and the ambiance was super cozy. I ordered the Gyoza (fried) and the Rice Noodle Singapore Style. Both were delicious! I really liked the noodle dish -- I asked for it without shrimp, and I loved the curry flavor. I really like super savory dishes and it hit the spot in that regard. I can't remember ever having a dish like it before and I will remember to get it again next time. I had enough to take home with me, so I'm looking forward to eating it for lunch tomorrow. I was taking my time after I finished the meal because I didn't want to go out in the cold again before I absolutely had to, and at some point two older guys sat down at the table next to me and were chatting. As I got up to leave one of them said, jokingly, "Was it something we said??" It was very cute. We had a nice conversation and then I went to catch my bus. All in all, i really enjoyed spending time at Osaka Lucky Garden! It was the perfect place to warm up, eat some yummy food, and feel like a part of a community. Thank you!! read more

I live in Revere, MA but my apartment is close to Winthrop. It was basically my only option for Chinese food and sushi since the others were far. And I really don't like waiting too long for a Delivery. I have never been disappointed by Osaka's food. Always delicious, always what I want. With the exception of like two times the delivery was late over a hour (guess they were super busy), but the food was worth the wait. Sometimes on Grubhub it will say 45min-1hr wait, but then they come in 25-30 mins. Anyways, love the Chinese Food here and the sushi is good too. read more

Omg, now it is really nicely renovated, actual sit down restaurant with a sushi bar! I can't believe what is happening in Winthrop, and I think I love it! I got some of the typical chinese american food which is the same as it was at the old LG, pretty good, such as their chicken and broccoli made spicy. The prices are a little higher than the old restaurant but that won't stop me from coming here no no no it wont! They also have Thai, Japanese and a very long list of sushi. Love it!! read more

I have been a frequent customer both take out and eat in, however I think this will be the last time. The sushi used to be excellent yet the last few times the quality has been poor. Additionally the customer service by the staff is extremely rude. I frequently receive menus with coupons in my mailbox as I live just up the road. However when I tried to use a takeout coupon for two free spring rolls I was given a hard time as the staff said this was an old coupon. I was happy to pay for the two spring rolls, however I was told "just don't let it happen again" by the cashier. He then handed me my order with a menu featuring the same coupon for free spring rolls. With the decline in food quality, the rude staff and the bait and switch marketing, I will no longer be frequenting this once delightful spot. read more

I had been craving some good maki after having some questionable rolls at PF Changs (yeah, I know) a few weeks ago. I decided to go with Osaka since it was a quick 10 minute drive from Revere Beach and they also offered Chinese and Thai cuisine for my girlfriend. I placed the order on Grubhub no problem. I went with the Spicy Maki Combo ($17), which was spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy yellowtail with a cup of miso soup. Kristina had chicken and broccoli, white rice, and a spring roll ($10). I felt the pricing was very fair given the quality and portion sizes. My maki rolls where great - fresh tasting fish, nice kick from the spicy mayonaise, and a little crunch from the tempura flakes. The miso soup was loaded with big chunks of tofu and wakame. I've been trying to eat more seaweed, and sushi and miso soup are some of the tastiest ways to do that. Kristina's dish looked great. It was more than enough for her dinner and lunch the next day. Tons of chicken, broccoli, and rice. I can't say I'll order any Chinese food from here since we live closer to Billy Tse's and Peter Woo's. They've got us covered for General Gau's chicken and Scallion Pancakes. Based on our first experience at Osaka, we will definitely order from them again. read more

Wow, so we tried ordering a few Bento boxes for takeout dinner, and we hung up, hungry. The woman on the phone was extremely aggressive, completing our sentences for us, seemingly rushing us on the phone. We threw her for a loop when we asked if I could substitute the california rolls that come with the box, with a tuna roll or something. (Hate the fake crab stuff. i would have been willing to have the roll made with everything but that-- just a veggie roll. Perhaps they PREPARE IT EARLIER...not fresh?) She was confused, and then said it would be $2 extra. She then got confused again, and started asking "Is this a substitution?"; the phone disconnected, so we called back, and a man, perhaps the manager or owner, answered. He told us no substitutions, and was very brusque, even rude. When he was told that one of us didn't like California rolls but really wanted the Bento box, he wouldn't budge. My guy stated, over the phone, "So, you're saying, you are willing to have us not be a customer of yours, rather than figure something out?" and he said Yes. Guess the customer is not always right. So we hung up. So the food is usually very good there, but the customer treatment remains very uncomfortable. It's the only sushi place in town, but there's plenty of other Asian food choices in town. I get it, that there's a package that keeps the prices low. But we were willing to pay the difference -- despite the Cali roll being 75 cents more than the tuna or salmon roll, on their takeout menu. Yes, that's right, it's a premium item over tuna. We definitely got the opinion that the Bento box comes from the back room, already assembled. In this economy, in this age of great food, there's no excuse for rudeness from any staff member at a restaurant, or like they are above doing us any "favors." At the very least, they could have been nice about it, then I would have moved on to another choice. Too bad, because we wanted to become regulars. We like places that make us feel welcome and comfortable. Just the other day, we had recommended the place to a friend, but warned her about their rude attitude. She reported back that she also felt uncomfortable with their aggressive upsell in the dining room. The takeaway: good food if you don't mind the stress. When I first started coming around to Winthrop and then eventually moved here, this place was a hole in the wall called Lucky Garden. It was okay, but used to eat there frequently because it was relatively cheap and a less than a minute walk for me. Fast forward 2 1/2 years to April 21, 2012 and they have reopened to Osaka Lucky Garden. The first thing I thought when I walked by with my roommate and seen how nice it was was "Oh, no! the prices are going to raise and it will probably be less than okay food!" Boy, was I wrong! I ate there that following Monday and eventhough I was the only person in there at the time, I sat at the bar. They were nothing but nice and friendly. I ordered a basic meal Lobster Sauce, White rice, Boneless Spareribs, Chicken Wings and Philadelphia Roll and Crazy Maki....... That's right, sushi! Everything was so delicious, light and filling. I didn't get that usual sluggish feeling I usually get after eating Chinese food. The white rice was perfect. Not over or undercooked. The lobster sauce was light and flavorful. My chicken wings and spareribs weren't greasy, and the sushi was so fresh and very well made... And it looked pretty too! Best of all, the prices are reasonable! As I chatted with the owner, I told him that I was so glad that I stopped in and he can expect to see my face more often. This is one place that actually got better under new management and I recommend it if you want something hot, fast, and refreshing. Just writing this is making my mouth water.
