The food was great, the service was good, the prices weren't my favorite, but pretty reasonable for the area.

Ordered 4 days in advance. 10 Butter old bay and 10 garlic Parm. Normal crowd, fat little man sitting at the end of the bar pretending to be the GM of the place and a dozen running around waiting on their SSI checks, selling an occasional rock to compensate their own addiction. Food use to be great. Gave the bartender $40. She gave me a $20 back, went got change gave me back a fist full of 1's. Took the $20 backgave me the wings. Left a generous tip. I knew something was wrong, but I looked at the crowd and decided my life was worth more than a discrepancy over a 20. Got home, 5 wings of each flavor. COLD AS A BONE. CHEWEY AS BUBBLEGUM. I can't explain my disappointment in the place. "The Cottage" is now a dive. Wings were to die for. Now, half the size they were and atmosphere is questionable. $40 for half an order of 10 wings, but I got away with my life. You lost a good customer. read more

I didn't give The Cottage much of a chance to impress me. When my waiter mentioned the beer special, I went right for that. And then he said that it was 55 cent wings night, so I went right for that too. I know that they have much better options on the menu, but it turned out that Yuengling and hot wings was exactly what I really wanted. I opted for the "honey hot" wings and they were cooked well with good meat to them. They weren't swimming in sauce either, which is good. Served with the usual ranch or bleu cheese and carrots/celery, it was a very good meal for the amount of hungry that I had. It really doesn't look like much from the outside and that's okay. Parking is limited but it's worth the walk if you have to park on the street. read more

Stopped in a week ago on a Thursday @ 8pm...sat at the bar (which was half full) and was ignored by the bartender and waitress who passed us by to go chat with people at the end of the bar several times. We waited 10+ minutes then left and went else where. Today, Thurs at 3pm we tried again. (Bar half full again)....this time the bartender Linda was on top of it! Attentive and friendly and did not ignore us one bit. Food was not bad but not as good as it used to be when we stopped years ago but the beer is cold and crisp. Will return not return in the evenings because then you are only waited on if you are a friend of the staff. read more

This place was a total disappointed. Came with a large group . Its was a birthday party. Not sure what happened. They were totally unprepared for it. There was some finger pointing on both sides. Paid $28 for only four draft beers! Without the gratuity. They "remodeled" several years ago, we didn't notice much difference but maybe we were involuntarily contributing to the "remodel." There weren't very many customers and NONE were eating....ummm, red flag about the food?!? The TVs were splattered with who knows what. The beverage cooler was smudged, dirty and gross looking.The bartender was nice but noted she sat at the end of the bar playing on her phone. Having said that, it was Sunday, maybe it's a slow day for them even though they had over a dozen TVs showing football. The cottage pub is a quaint nice little spot with great bar food. Their wings were good as well as the sauces. The drinks were good as well and pretty good service. I wouldn't come here with a large group but I would definitely come back and sit at the bar to grab a bite if I was looking for good wings and a sports bar environment. read more

Someone recommended this place as the "best wings from a local pub" so we decided to check it out. We each ordered wings...I had the Honey Hot and my husband had the Gold Fever (best way to describe this flavor is like a hot mustard sauce but more flavorful) and both were REALLY good. I was torn between what I ordered and the Baton Rouge sauce so the bartender brought me a side of the Baton Rouge. That was delicious! It had kick but SO much flavor. I will definitely order those next time. This place is hard to miss if you're not paying attention, but we recommend that you seek it out and try the wings! read more

I'm like a guided missile programmed to seek out great dive bars. I'm especially interested in dives with good food. As I travel the country I use the Yelp Mobile App to find them. I've been spending a lot of time in the Chambersburg area and these folks are the classic dive bar experience. It's a tiny little place and it doesn't look like much from the outside. You may be tempted to pass it by and visit one of the many chain places that are practically next door. That would be a mistake. You'll find the crowd to be a mix of young and old including locals and lots of folks like me staying in the nearby hotels. The beer selection is decent and the drinks are cheap. They have a My Touch juke box so I can play songs from my smart phone. I love that! The food is much better than typical bar food. I'll give you one example. Sweet Chicken Tenders. These are chicken pieces wrapped in bacon. They are not the usual battered and fried pieces that you see everywhere. These are dusted with brown sugar and chili powder and baked. They are OMG delicious and a welcome change from fried food. My business will be taking me to the Chambersburg area again and this will be my stop for adult libations and good food. read more

Very disappointing, wont be back. If I could give it zero stars I would. I have been to the Cottage several times in the past and enjoyed it. We went on a Friday night and there was only one server working, who was doing the best she could considering the circumstances. She was doubling as the bartender as well. We waited over an hour and only got drinks and an appetizer, which was way over cooked mozzarella sticks with no cheese. She gave us a few more appetizers which we didn't order and charged us for them. Out of the four appetizers we ordered only one was right. It cost us 60 dollars for 4 drinks, shitty food and terrible service. We had to cash out and go elsewhere to get something to eat. read more

From the outside, it doesn't look like anything awesome. However, the locals know that's simply not the case. It's a fantastic place for a good meal and a good beer. The biggest negative is the parking lot. It is tiny and crowded. Sometimes we have to park on the street, even a block away if it's a busy night. Inside it's cute. A little cramped, but cozy feeling. They've done great with the decor to make it feel warm and inviting. Even when it's busy it's not as loud as most other places in the dining room. Mainly because it's smaller, but it has lower ceilings and they don't play loud music. It's better for conversation than most other restaurants. We usually go here a few times a year to meet up with family, and there ends up being 8 of us total. The service is always fantastic and the food is great. Just like any restaurant, there could be a part of the meal (and has been) that wasn't as awesome, but that's just the way it is. I had ribs here once that really weren't that great. Flavor was good, but they were kind of tough. The Chesapeake Burger is awesome. It's a burger topped with a crab cake. Fantastic. Comes with chips or you can order a side separately. The fries here are some of the best around; fresh cut and so tasty. Crab cakes are good here, full of large chunks of crab meat. Side salads are very nice, they have some spring greens instead of plain Romaine or Iceberg. The Cottage has great wings. The Devil sauce is pretty spicy, but great flavor. They make all their own sauces, so they're truly unique. One in our party has had the Seafood Alfredo twice. Man does that look amazing. Loaded with seafood, asparagus, and pasta. It's been a tried and true dish! Beer choices are great here. They feature some different ones on tap that aren't so macro. They also have draught Guinness, which not all places do. Just keep in mind that the higher alcohol specialty beers come in 9 ounce pours, so they're small. Prices aren't anything unreasonable. On par with chain restaurants serving similar cuisine. The difference is that this place is local and I prefer that a lot of times. read more

This is a review for customer experience. My folks just moved into the area in the fall of 2008 and have not been to too many places to eat yet. Since I live across the country in Washington, I needed to come up with a Christmas gift for them. With all of the great feedback from Yelpers I decided to look at the website and found the phone number for them. I called and asked about a gift certificate and paid for it over the phone. It arrived at my parents house a couple of days later in a Christmas card (very nice touch) with my transcribed message. My receipt arrived in the mail a few days later with a handwritten note thanking me for my purchase and that they would make sure my folks had an enjoyable and memorable meal there. Thank you. I mean, when you roll up, don't judge a book by it's cover at all. It's actually really quaint and cute inside. The waiters don't bother you at all and it's a nice quiet atmosphere. But the food - there's better places out there. I had the Maryland crab cake which as an entree comes with bread rolls (definitely microwaved from a sam's club "roll" freezer bag), and 2 sides. I got the Caesar salad and rice pilaf. The crab cake was like the size of my palm and was alone $13.95 even though you can get a side of it for $8.99, for some reason. I smashed and it obviously became larger. It WAS delicious but you can't judge an entire establishment based on one piece of food. It was perfectly seasoned but seriously, $13.45! The Caesar salad was ... eh, i mean can you really go bad with a Caesar salad? The rice pilaf resembled something from a TV dinner. I had to add a bunch of salt and pepper. My boyfriend got the 7 ounce sirloin steak and ribs which came with the dinner rolls and 2 sides. He got the salad and baked potato. He HATED his ribs. You could tell they were warmed up; the taste and texture was clear and evident. It was soft and not in a good way. The steak was OK, there was no seasoning which he likes but it was a little too well done for his "medium" preference. After 1 blue moon and 2 Guinness's it all totaled up to be around $50.00. Don't be put off by the sketchy exterior - go around back (good luck finding parking - the lot is a little strange!) and enter through the dining entrance (not the front bar entrance or the other back take out entrance). It's the kind of local favorite that you'd never ever find in a million years if you were just passing through. The menu is fairly innovative and the food is always good - just beware of the smoky bar in the front. You have to walk through it to get to the restrooms. read more

Husband and I split the burger, they split it for us in the kitchen, I thought that was nice. The Texas toast couldn't hold the burger but it was delicious. I am a big fan of the food at the Cottage. The ambiance is fine for what it is - in the front it's a bar. It's a smallish bar though. However small it is, I've never been in there with a huge crowd, so I never felt squished. The wings are very good and that's usually what I'll get when I eat there. They have some great flavors and great variety. The drink specials are also solid. The one downside could be parking - but I used to live near there so I know you can park behind or on the street. I ate at the Cottage tonight with my fiancé, mom, dad, two brothers, and niece to celebrate my mother's birthday. We ate in the back dining room area and started out with the Maryland crab loaf and the crab pretzel. Both were mediocre, over seasoned with Old Bay spice blend, and filled us up on carbs. I ordered the Chesapeake chicken as my entree with a side salad and french onion soup as my two sides. The salad was very fresh and the Parmesan peppercorn dressing was tasty. The French onion soup was average, neither terrific nor terrible. The Chesapeake chicken was so dry and overcooked it was inedible. The 'imperial sauce' on top was almost nonexistent and so thick and baked on that it was able to be scrapped off with a knife. The 'crab stuffing' in the middle of the Chesapeake chicken was the same sort of flat, gray, dry crab patty that was on top of the Maryland crab loaf appetizer. Overall, my entree was beyond dissapointing and difficult to pay for. My fiancé's meal was by far the worst. She ordered the Scallops and chose a side salad with the same Parmesan Peppercorn dressing, and a cup of the Shrimp Bisque Soup as her two sides. Once the salad course was underway, our waitress brought out the soups those in the party ordered. My fiancé's didn't come. We didn't see the waitress again until after everyone had finished with their soups and reminded her about the Shrimp Bisque. The waitress apologized and brought out the soup. We immediately regretted asking. The soup was thick, gelatinous, and appeared to be what a can of condensed soup makes larger, creamier batches of soup from. It was a muddy color, had small dehydrated 'shrimps' and was not hot. It was as if a can of soup was opened, NOT AT ALL HEATED and dumped into a cup. It was insulting. My fiancé's entree was surprising. I went to Culinary School and have never seen nor heard of using tiny, bay scallops as an entree entirely on their own. They were over cooked, rubbery, and again, over seasoned with Old Bay. She left almost her entire meal. The saving grace of the night was the Xangos. A dessert which by any other name would still be as sweet. It was the highlight of the night. It's a shame really because The Cottage does have good wings and ribs, but their other selections are disappointing, borderline misleading. After spending $160 on a party of six adults and one toddler, we have a good overall idea of the menu and cringed spending that much on food we couldnt force ourselves to eat. Even armed with the knowledge that good menu items exist, we've vowed not to go back. Good ribs and wings with average service isn't worth it. I've never been to the front bar part of the Cottage so I cannot speak for its environment or quality. However, the establishment does sell six packs of beer and hard cider in the back and has a small but versitle selection and is open late through the week unlike other places in Chambersburg that sell beer to go. Bottom line, if you go stick to the beer, ribs, and wings and don't expect anything elegant. read more

Ordered to-go wings cooked extra crispy. Got home and discovered they weren't even fully-cooked.several were still raw in the middle. Was issued a make-good credit. A month later, we use the credit and ordered extra-crispy wings to-go. When I arrived to pick them up, the bottle shop person sends my wings out the door with another customer. So, I'm told I can wait another half- hour. I was not about to miss the Penn State game, but the manager agreed to deliver my wings. When they arrived and we sat down to eat, we once again discovered undercooked wings. I called and asked for a callback from the manager and was told they would have her call me as soon as she returned. Two hours later, after not receiving a callback, I called again. This time I was told the manager was in, but was too busy to speak with me. I was told sh would call me back soon. That was 4 days ago and I still have not received a call. At this point, I give up. If this is how they treat customer complaints, they must need the money more than I do. Will never dine there again. Highly suggest avoiding this place if you want your food the way you ordered it. Looks like new owners have not carried forward any legacy from the old Cottage. Let me give the positives first as they are few. The wings are good in size and quality. Moist and flavorful. That and the servers were pleasant. Now the negatives. Food came out very randomly, entrees and appetizers in a strange order. The crab dip tasted fine but we struggled to find any crab meat in it...and garlic bread sub rolls to dip??? Not the best flavor combo. Shrimp bisque was runny and poorly flavored. The kicker here is the caesar salad with shrimp I ordered. It was the last item brought to the table, took 1 hour from the time it was ordered. Careful, some assembly required...shrimp were good size, but not peeled and very overcooked and hot. I gave up halfway through trying to peel, cut, and sprinkle them on my salad. Overall I would say avoid this place unless they hire a real chef. read more

We love their wings, crab pretzels, chicken quesadilla, club sandwich and french fries. I took 1 star away because the bathrooms have a lot to be desired. The way the waitress treated us last night was inexcusable. We came for dinner and music and after we had paid our checks she started dropping hints that she wanted us out of her way. If she wanted us to move she should have said so and we gladly would have went to another table. She was rolling her eyes, wiping off tables around us and sighing loudly, sat down to rub her feet. (We must have completely work her out) and she finally said "I'm just waiting for YOU." It was well before closing time and we would have stayed for more drinks but felt very unwelcome. Ordered Crab Pretzel for appetizer- The sauce on it was just red peppers and cheese? The pretzel itself was overbaked and tough.. could barely cut it with a knife. Not what I expected for a crab pretzel.. Also ordered Chicken Chesapeake sandwich.. crab or whatever it was was uneatable.. no seasoning at all on the chicken or the crab.. Not even sure it was crab.. maybe 99% filler.. Needless to say, I ended up just pulling the dry chicken out and eating that. .The 'crabmeat' was scary.. I expected to taste some old bay or something but just bland and dry. :( On the other hand the place was nice inside, cozy and service was good.. HORRIBLE. One and done... I have lived in Chambersburg all my life and only have ever had drinks one evening in the bar area. My family decided to try something new in town and realized we never ate here. There must have been a reason!! No drink specials on a Saturday evening. The kitchen was out of almost everything. One point my dad ordered and then we found out they were out of of his order. Appetizer took half an hour. Silverware took just as long. Salads and soup (not all of them) came out right before our entrees (also not all entrees came out). My own order didn't come out until 20 minutes after my family had theirs. Then a few minutes into eating my entree that finally arrived our waitresses asked if we were ready for the check. The other waitress spent the whole evening in the dining room complaining to her family that must have been dining that she had been there all day. We had a very nice meal here on our way to Morgantown, WV. As other reviews said, parking is a challenge but we got there early and had no problem finding a spot in the lot. Ordered the crab pretzel to start and that was the low point of the meal. No crab that we could see and the only flavor was spicy (I assume Old Bay). But our entrees were delicious. I got the turkey club with fries (hand cut and amazing), my husband got the ribs with Brussels and coleslaw and he said they were so tender and good. Daughter had the seafood pasta. Huge scallops and shrimp and a delicious cream sauce. The salad that came with it was better than your average side salad, too. Service was good but there were only two women handling the whole dining area (which isn't big, but still big enough where a third person would have been helpful. They were hustling! We will definitely be back whenever we pass through. read more

They have changed owners. The food was horrible. Possibly some of the worst I've had around Chambersburg. The service was just as badd.

They have been around since 1933, this speak well of them. Actually when you arrive you are taken aback at what you see - The place looks a little run down but not to worry. Best if you enter the restaurant through the back entrance. Believe there are no more than 12 tables in the seating area, the room is relaxing. Service staff friendly and attentive. The Mrs. had Haddock and I a NY Strip. We received a gift certificate to come here and we are very happy we did. We will be returning to sample some of the other offerings. A note: We were really surprised with the steamed clam appetizer they arrived on a plate and appeared to literally steamed, no juices do dip bread in. Looks can be deceiving! I lived in the Chambersburg area for a year before we went to the "Cottage". What a friendly, little down-to-earth place. Their crab cakes are the best for being so far from the Bay. Their menu selection is more than adequate and the service is always great. It can be a little tight quarters on weekends because the locals love it. We have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to be seated. This is our favorite place to eat. read more
