I hadn't been to a New York Fried Chicken in well over a decade and a half, but when I stopped by the Rita's next door, I asked the owner for a menu. The first thing that got my attention from the menu was the Spicy Chicken sandwich. In a world full of Chicken sandwiches, I was interested in NY Fried Chicken's take. It was a solid choice. For under $10, you get a side of fries and a can of soda. The chicken breast tastes eerily similar to the Spicy Chicken Sandwich as Wendy's. Same toppings too. But that's no complaint. Peach cobbler, chicken cheesesteak, grilled chicken kabob, Jamaican beef patties, collard greens... The menu is extensive with many fried appetizers and main courses to ruin any diet. I find myself wanting to try everything on the menu in just one visit. The ambiance is reminiscent of any takeout restaurant that you'll find on the East Coast. With patrons filling the lobby during the lunch rush hour, they get the food out fast. Even if it's just the owner in the kitchen. He's also super nice and will remind you to not forgot your [canned] soda. New York Fried Chicken is a solid option for a quick lunch or a substitute for cooking after a long day. The fried chicken is good not overly battered. It is crispy and not overly seasoned. It tastes home made not mass produced as if you were eating at your Uncle's house for dinner. A few pieces had just a hint of dryness. I would come back. Ordered a side of rice- personal preference, There was a spice or seed in the rice that ruined it for me. I was scrambling for a place that would accept a large bulk order on the same day. My mother in law told me about this establishment and I took the initiative and phoned in my order. They were happily to have it prepared for me on a busy Saturday within 20 minutes. Ok, no complaints. I had no troubles when I arrived. Very friendly service and they offered my 6 year old niece free items. She was happy as she sat on the chair and got her munching on. I complimented the employees for pulling through in such a short notice and carried a nice conversation as we wait. Finally handed me a large party tray with a mixture of fried chicken. The day of the order they will call to confirm to ensure the chicken is cooked fresh at the time of the pick up. The chicken is delicious and always hot and ready when I arrive. Stopped in looking for something with a home cooked taste. I ordered the number number "21"meal which includes grilled chicken and shrimp, sautéed veggies your choice of spicy or not spicy seasoning served over rice. I also had a side of a white sauce which really made the meal pop! I'm so glad I stopped in, the food definitely hit the spot.
