We usually come here for poutine. My daughter ordered poutine as usual. She got one with bacon bits in it. I just had plain fries this time cuz we had a birthday freebie to redeem from the app and the birthday gift is just a free order of fries. No birthday poutine rewards. We ordered a side of gravy to go with it, so...very affordable meal since the gravy was only about $1.00. Our daughter said they seemed to have put a few less cheese curds in her order than usual. That was kind of a bummer to hear. My fries and gravy were good though, and the portion of fries was pretty generous consider it's free. Sigh.. it has come down to this. I have been eating new york fries poutine for 30 years. It was still one of my favorite poutines even after trying real quebecois poutine in quebec. I love their gravy taste. Over the years, they just add less and less toppings. Thet used to not count tge number of pumps of gravy and just make sure it's all covered. Now theres only 2? pumps. The gravy still tastes good at least. A small scoop of cheese curds... almost too bare - you can see from the photos. Fries still taste the same. I was also here when you can sprinkle california seasoning yourself but now you have to ask for a packet and it's limited to 1 per poutine. I have had better fries in the past. New York Fries are nothing special. B and I each got a small fries. The portion was a good size. The fries itself looked a bit sad especially when you get to the bottom and it looked like it was badly squished. The fries are fresh but they are not wow. They don't add salt or pepper on them so if you want more flavor to them, you will need to ask or let them know beforehand. The staff here needs to work on their customer service. I wanted to order 2 poutines but with different flavors. The staff lady misheard me and put in 2 classic (cheese and gravy) poutines instead. I told her that i wanted to choose different types but she said it was too late because she punched it in already. I relented and bought them anyway (which i now regret). The lady had a thick middle eastern accent and I had to think a little what she was saying to me. (i'm not very good at listening to accents) But she acted like she was in a rush. I had a gift card i wanted to use but i got flustered and just paid with my credit card instead. I didn't realize this until i got my food. No smile, no "thanks" or no "hello" either. There were just 2 customers behind me which is pretty typical in my opinion. So i don't understand what's the rush. The poutines were average in terms of taste. They were not as tasty as I hoped. There was plenty of cheese curds and gravy though. Reason i visited on that day is NYF had a BOGO deal on regular sized poutines for national poutine day if you use their app. I had 2 regular sized classic poutines in one sitting and was stuffed! Saved about $8 on my meal. One redeeming factor is that there were 3 customers ahead of me and I got my 2 poutines literally within a minute or two after ordering. Service was very fast. Overall, classic poutines were mediocre and the customer service could be better. They get their food out fast though. 3 out of 5 stars based on this visit only because the BOGO deal I used made it worth it. As a side note, the New york fries in pacific center in downtown pacific center is my regular spot and has way better customer service. Their poutines actually tasted better as well. They are sometimes slow to serve food but at least they're patient with customers who are a little slow. I recommend you go there instead. read more

Did a bit of shopping and want a quick bite so decided to grab a quick bite. Decided on this place cause I do like hot dogs and poutines, that's is if they are good. So here were what we ordered; 1. Bacon and cheese dog with green onion. Most of the time raw green onions don't fuse together too well for the taste buds unless it's done properly, the bun could be a bit warmer, the hot dog weiner was a bit dry and could cook a bit longer. 2. Premium hot dog. The bun and hot dog weiner like I said, was a bit dry and could cook for a bit longer like the bacon and cheese dog. 3. The works poutine. The fries were warmest and too soggy, there were more green onion then anything else. Poutine failed! Overall, could use a a lot of improvements on the quality of food for the price. Located at metrotown mall food court. It always has long line-up, but their service is quite fast! The fries are fresh (maybe because they are sooo busy) which is a good thing. I usually get their poutine and I never finished the poutine since it's so fulfilling. - original poutine (based on my past experience, so no picture for now) - my favourite!! very generous in giving the cheese chucks and gravy. The fries won't be mushy even if they put gravy on the top - The works (past experience) love the bacon bites, but it's better if they put more!! little bit heavy because of the sour cream and cheese, but overall it's good - original fries love love love their fries, I usually give little bit of their cajun powder (the one for their hotdog), and just eat it with/without ketchup. One thing tho, sometimes it has the "burnt" part on the fries (like the small part that has been deep fried too long)-- but only happened once or twice. So, my feedback is maybe use small strainer to pick-up the burning that left on the deep fryer machine please. The fries are good. The service is super slow. I ordered fries with no toppi g and cheese sauce on the side and it took literally 15 minutes. The order taker, she was fast. But the two food preparer guys were talking, checking each other orders, working at a relaxed pace and refilling food bins. The two guys guys put one order to a customer every 5 minutes together. As I waited the order taker helped out and served up 3 orders in 3 minutes. 10 people were waiting patiently for their orders and they crew didn't seem to care. My super simple order only took one minute once they got to it. Just super slow and super inefficient. I've always been a huge fan of their fries since forever. I also just tried their poutine before leaving Metrotown as I never had theirs before nor have I had poutines for a good long while, and I thought it theirs was delicious. There's really only 2 things that kind of sucks about NYF: 1) They don't have enough locations. I can only get to 3 of their places quite easily and the rest, I'm just not sure how to get to. So they need more locations. 2) The other thing that bothers me about this place is that I wish they have slightly more cheaper prices because with the amounts of fries they give us, they generally only give like a bit less then $2 worth of potatoes before quadrupling the price up and adding the taxes. I know they have a business to run but damn... But otherwise, their fries is just superb, perfectly salted, and you will get to have a chance to add a few condiments of your own like peppers and black vinegar as well and gravy + Cheese if you ordered the regular poutines. Over the years, New York Fries have definitely changed. I really enjoyed them when they were new, I remember there used to be huge lineups to get their signature fries. The fries these days are not as great but I do enjoy them once in a while. At the Metrotown location I recently got the premium hot dog combo. The hot dog wasn't that good. You know how not yummy it is when the hot dog bun feels refrigerated? It was like that.. I wish they would at least steam heat the bun but oh well. Before when the theatres had NY Fries, she gave me the most ever fries, gravy, cheese curds (if it's real, that is, haha) -- without me asking her. Back in the day, you almost had to plead w/ the Silvery City ppl to give you more, and got a dirty look in return. But what was cool that with the increase in height w/ the extra fries, and her trying to squeeze all of it under the dome takeout container (yes, it was takeout), and the fries hanging around the edges, she actually used 2 plastic forks to shove them inside, without using her fingers. Tried the new Butter Chicken and Braised Beef poutines. The fries were excellent as always. Could have used more cheese. The flavour of the 2 sauces was ok but the picture shows pieces of meat and the meat in the sauce is all stringy. This makes the sauce seem REALLY thick and hard to get some on each fry. Sometimes you do something stupid and against your better judgment. Eating at NYF is just one of these things. The fries are too brown, overly fried. Fries should be light golden brown in color like McDonalds or Costco fries. They should not be crunchy or their edges crispy. Because these fries are sooo overly fried, you must have something to smother or hide all the grease taste. I suggest ordering the processed cheese whiz and drench at the very least your fries with vinegar and the cheese whiz topping and ketchup. I tried the gravy one time and I regretted ordering it. There was nothing wrong with it per se, I just didn't like their recipe. I also tried the butter chicken and while it was better than the gravy, it still wasn't as tasty as the cheese whiz, vinegar, and ketchup topping. Ahhh my go-to place for fuel at Metrotown. I usually order a regular sized poutine and a bottled water, and it comes down to around $7-8 for both items together. There are two sizes: small and regular. I think the small is only a couple bucks cheaper than the regular size. On a good day, they will serve you an overly heaping cup/bowl of poutine; on any other day, they still serve a somewhat big thing of poutine. Sometimes, the cheese curds will come out cold which is pretty disappointing but usually it's fine. If they do come out cold though, just give it some time to soften up against the fries and gravy. I've also tried The Works and if you're a chili/taco lover, this was delicious and is definitely worth a shot. They also have a vegetarian version of The Works which my friend harps about so maybe try that too if you're not a meat-lover like me. It's gets pretty busy during the lunch hour so maybe go earlier or later than 11-2. They provide free self-serve seasoning and you must try the California Sweet Barbecue!! read more

I have never had cause to complain about the fries at New York Fries, they're reliable and always sizzling hot when served. It is what they do best. Today my husband and I were shopping at Metrotown and we thought we'd have the hot dog/fries/drink combo for two, they call it New York duo or combo or platter or something like that. Anyway it's two hot dogs, two sodas and a jumbo fries. The fries were good, and the drinks typical soda fountain quality. Bonus to them for having Orange Crush on tap. The hot dogs were dreadful though. The frankfurter was not even warmed through, and the bun was stale. No amount of toppings can overcome a handicap like that. Good thing a jumbo fries is more than enough for two because that's what we filled up on. Neither of us could stomach the hot dog. Service was good, quick and professional.
