Recently, we visited this quaint neighborhood sandwich shop. The place is small and doubles as both restaurant with a seating area as well as storage facility for the supplies for resale. Our cashier was also our cook and he was friendly although he didn't smile much. I purchased the Philly cheesesteak and The other person purchased the Gyro. My sandwich was fresh and delicious although the cheese was not melted. The Gyro was equally fresh and delicious. This is a great place to get orders to go however, I probably would not recommend it as a in-house eating establishment due to the limited seating capacity. read more

Ive been to other Gyro places in Cedar Rapids, and this spot tops them all. Albeit I didnt get the Gyro, I can gaurantee by the way they make their chicken and the way the fried chicken is prepared, it wont disappoint. The tacos were phenomenal, and philly cheese steak was amazing. Fries were solid, and the fried chicken reminds me of how Eastern European and Turkish make them. Also by the name, it does remind me of a NY joint from when I lived over there. I'll definitely be returning back to order another round of the philly cheese steak and a proper gyro. Finally a place in the corridor that sells food that is similar to halal street carts in New York. It took over a pizza place with awful service and cleanliness. Things are the complete opposite now. Still a weird building but it is finally clean. Everyone is super nice and accommodating. The rice has FLAVOR. It tastes almost indian. Everything here has a lot of flavor or marinades. Everything is fresh. Portions are huge and will fill you up. Plus the price isn't bad at all. Nothing like this type of food and a cold can of coke to wash it all down. What a great new little place in Marion. From the looks of the outside and the lacking interior decor I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by quick service, an outstanding chicken philly, great catfish and a HUGE gyro. The prices are right, the service is quick and you definitely get your money's worth. I can safely say these are options that were not previously found in the Marion area and I think this place really fills the niche. The food is simple but it's done rightlook forward to stopping in again to try some of the other menu options. Parking and seating is limited but it's an in and out type of place with the speed of the service so I don't see it being a big issue. When I lived in Germany 2002-2005 I frequented a Gyro stand during my time. I have yet to experience the awesomeness that the Gyro stand in Germany could give me but this place comes close. One big mistake that Gyro restaurants in America make is "Americanizing" the gyro by just globbing mayo on it instead of the classic tzatziki sauce. Whenever I try a new gyro place that's my first sign that my sandwich is destined for the garbage. While New York Gyro doesn't make gyros like the ones I had in Germany, I started with giving them 3 stars but they also not not Americanize the gyro and their gyros are closer to the real thing than most of the places I have tried so I had to give them an extra star. I liked the lemon pepper seasoning on the fries. I also had the hummus and Mac and cheese. I would recommend both of them because they were fresh and well seasoned. This summer I've been on a gyro binge! Finally got a chance to try this new spot. Ordered the chicken gyro and the Philly cheese steak. Both came with fries. 1. That gyro was BIG. That gyro was delicious!!! The veggies fresh , chicken was juicy and the sauce was delicious on the toasted pita bread . 10/10! 2. The Philly was DELICIOUS. Also big! Lots of cheese, meat, and veggies. Seasoned really well! Another 10/10. 3. The fries seemed to have a really subtle lemon pepper seasoning on them that I found really appealing. Tasty! My husband ordered the Philly Steak sandwich and I ordered the Gyro meat over rice. Everything had great flavor. The Philly Steak sandwich was delicious and the bread was fantastic. The gyro meat over rice was the perfect option for someone that likes gyros but doesn't really need the pita. A++. I loved the gyro combo! There was lettuce in my gyro, normally a problem for me, but it was barely a garnish along with parsley or cilantro, not sure. The tzatziki was right on, perfect amount. The tomatoes must have come straight from Italy. These guys know that the only way to mess up a gyro is to not properly sear the meat or to be skimpy, Iowa City shops need to take note! The fries were something I haven't had since Chicago... actually good and having said that... even rarely in Chicago. Naturally on the flatbread not into a pita.
