Recently opened deli in the NewBo district. Nice interior and the staff was clean and well groomed. Nice décor with a lot of wood. Most of the tables appeared to be for four with a counter also with high top chairs. Nice unless you have a single diner doing work at one of the tables taking up 4 places. Maybe a setup with smaller tables for two would be helpful. The metal chairs are not the most comfortable. I've seen these chairs at one other place and didn't like them there either. (Does anybody actually sit in these chairs when they consider buying them?) The menu has a good variety of sandwiches and soups. I opted for the Chicken Salad, and it was OK, just nothing special. I had hoped that for a place in NewBo that it might be a cut above the rest of town. The cold cut sandwiches are made from cold cuts that are pre-sliced. I know that most delis around here do that, but why not have a slicer like they do back east and cut the meat to order? For the actual size of the sandwich we had, my wife ordered the roast beef, you didn't get too much bang for your buck. The bread they used wasn't very pleasing to the eye. If you get rye or white bread it's simply sliced bread. They had an interesting assortment of salads, but they were pre-packaged so there was no way to know when they were prepared. The 1010 salad was pretty good though. If you crave a nice chicken salad sandwich head over to the NewBo market for a heartier and less expensive option on a much better piece of bread. read more

My new go-to sandwich shop! I walked in on a Friday evening and was quickly greeted. The employees offered suggestions on what they recommended and were great assistance. I went with the chef's salad - greens with cucumbers, onion, Parmesan, prosciutto, and a ranch vinaigrette! So flavorful and fresh and great value! I also love that they serve Donutland donuts thus making it great for morning or evening!! I will be back! read more

Nice location, ample space inside, well appointed.. The advertised outside seating area is rather small bistro tables on the side walk. Mix of deli- subway shop. While much of the food options may be home made, there is nothing special about it. Being soo close to NewBo I would love to see some alternative options, e. g. I really wanted to fall in love with this place. I love me a good deli, I am from back East. I like an Italian guy to sweat on my grinder for that authentic taste. I totally agree with another reviewer, the meat should be sliced to order. But at the very least they should use good quality meat. The turkey on my sandwich was processed. The kind of turkey that is ground up and pressed back into a breast shape with something that makes it stay glued together. It is the cheap kind of turkey that you find at other chain sandwich shops. They advertise it as high quality meat- it is absolutely not. The roll was very good, soft and light like a pillow but dare I say a bit too light. The kind of bread that you can squish paper thin. The roll would not hold up to much stuffed inside it. The veggies were pre- shredded lettuce and thinly sliced pale tomatoes and cucumbers. Come on, these are In season now. To top it off, cheese is an extra $.80. The sandwich was $8.00 for a thin and sad 7". What was great you ask? The decor was clean and crisp. It is a well thought out space except for where you pay is too crowded to put down your sandwich. Which is wrapped like something much more special than it is. I will try Lu's again because I want to love it, the district needs a great deli. Next time I hope they are using Boars Head or some other better quality meat and they have tomatoes that taste like something - anything. read more

Lu's is a good place for lunch. It's in NewBo so parking is difficult to find. But the atmosphere is nice. Quiet, and the decor is really cute. The staff were welcoming and good at their jobs. The food was nice but nothing spectacular or really unique. The menu was a bit overwhelming. There were a lot of choices, and it was all on the board. That's more of a personal pet peeve and not a huge issue. read more

So glad there is finally a deli in the Newbo area! I typically get the Cran Turkey and a cup of chili! Lots of homemade recipes, soups, pasta salads and cookies that are delicious.
