It's light enough to not be sketchy, but not too bright. There was also jukebox music playing, but it wasn't so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves talk. They have lots of beer options and cheap prices. The food was also delicious (if cooked on a visible, greasy stove) and inexpensive. We had a steak quesadilla that easily weighed five pounds, full of cheese, steak, fresh mushrooms and griled onions, and a thick burger, topped with onion petals, cheese and sauce. Meanwhile I'm certain everyone inside got what they were needing. I believe it was a case of out of sight, out of mind. Close to 11 I got up from my seat and went inside to inquire. The exact answer I got from one of the waitstaff was "We'll bring it out when it's ready." Not one acknowledgment of the wait. Not even one apology for the wait. I'd say the total wait was 50 minutes. We got our food about 10 minutes after that. Perhaps they got the hint. And then we finally got some attention to our drinks. But yet again, not one acknowledgement of the wait. Now the saving grace. The food we got was actually excellent. I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich. Everyone was happy with their food. Yet again I had to go inside just to ask for the bill. I didn't even get a "how was everything?" Maybe they were afraid to ask? Let me be clear. I understand waiting for food. I was in the middle of an 8 hour road trip, and needed to put something in my stomach. Ordered a coffee with cream and sugar and and impossible egg and cheese. The impossible egg and cheese was nothing remarkable, yet solid. I didn't expect an artisan croissant, nor did I get one. Sandwich was fairly well put together, no complaints on that front. The coffee was an absolute disgrace. If there's something that goes well with road trips, it's caffeine, preferably in at least a moderately tasty suspension. To call this stuff coffee though is an insult to coffees in office break rooms across the country. It was brown water that alledgedly contains caffeine, and maybe the tiniest amount of bitterness and acidity so as to minimize complains about why they are serving water with food coloring. I know BK isn't an artisan cafe, though, at least getting basic coffee right for the massesses embarked on a road trip worthy of a rest stop shouldn't be this difficult.
