    Dolmatas And The Falafel Sandwich
    Steve A.

Got some lunch from this Uptown market and deli. It doesn't look like much but it's good. New York Market makes fresh sandwiches. Has stuff like the falafel. The prices are kind of high but this is better quality. Came and got a sandwich at lunch. It's about $11 to get one. These come with a choice of protein. Among the meats are beef and chicken. The vegetarian choice is falafel. Got a few other things for cheap. They have containers of vegetarian dolmatas for only a few bucks, and these are a pretty good side. Other stuff in the store isn't as cheap. There's a lot of ripoffs, but has some okay things. Has a few items that are pretty cheap. It's more expensive for the fresh sandwiches. There's many things here okay for vegans and vegetarians.

Such a cool neighborhood spot! Food was all fresh and cooked to order. Friendly staff and short wait time. Bagel with salmon and cream cheese tasted like home.

This is a nice convenient store in the neighborhood for people who live in East Lakeview. They have a decent selection of every day items like pop, milk, sandwiches and food bars. I often come here for coffee or for something to eat after the gym. They do get a lot of traffic from fitness formula members so it's best to keep that in mind if you are trying to get in and out quick.

Fiddle Dee Dee! Why isn't this already on here-ing? I'm as disappointed in you Yelpers... as a Parent whose kid comes home with a bad report card. *waves mustache tattooed finger at your face* It should have been written about by now online pals and galleons. This is my favorite deli. It's located on the first floor of the New York Building by Lake Shore Drive and near the FFC appendage attached to building. It's a deli and a C Store. They have grocery items, wine, beers, coffee, soda (fountain and bottles)... the usual jive. I buy that stuff there in a pinch. But I REALLY like the deli. The salads are some of the best I've ever had. I also like the wraps, soups and paninis. The staff is real nice. Andre is usually working during the morning and day. The owners wife works around lunch and she's very sweet. She makes most of the salads and wraps fresh daily and uses her own recipes. Though grr. The salad size decreased a few months ago. And a cous cous salad I really enjoyed she stopped making. The other cous cous salad is just ok so hope she brings the original back. The pesto chicken (which she told me she created on a dish she ate at her gym) is quite good. But a lot of the salads are great. The owner and his nephew (he's the younger tall cat) are nice. I really enjoy supporting a small family business. Just because I'm disappointed in you Yelpers for not reviewing this hidden gem doesn't mean you have to go without supper. You could always buy some here!

Definitely not a welcoming place for all. Felt like I was having holes started into me the whole time I looked for a drink.

They rather stand around and say self-checkout is open. People know about self-checkout, clearly guest will rather go through the regular check out. Those males they have over there in the deli have ruined the quality of the hot or cooked items over there. I've heard a customer request the $1 item and they said there wasn't any more they'd have to cook them, THEN turned and said they wouldn't have time. They stand back there moving so slow it's unbelievable. The one guy with the real thick glasses has a real nasty attitude. Every time a woman asks for something he's speaking under his breath about them. I hear because I stand a wait for another guy to come available because I never want to deal with him and he speaks negatively of the customers because they have request. Personally, I decided to just go to other locations or other stores, if I want something from the deli. The store is clean, but it be so crowded.

A line for grocery store fried chicken? Absolute cinema. People have been recommending I get into fried chicken reviews, and I've resisted as I really don't want to get fat, but this was the perfect storm to start a grocery store fried chicken review journey. I got to the front in the line and felt like a fish out of water. I sheepishly asked the employees, Darius R and Damariea J, what the move was as it was my first time getting fried chicken from here. I thought they'd be annoyed, but they were so helpful and welcoming. "Today is actually wing bucket Friday! A whole bucket is normally $17.99 but today it's $9.99. I can give you some of everything so you can try, but the spicy wings are my favorite." Hell yeah. Darius was the MAN. I took my tissi and wing bucket to the UIC campus for consumption. The tissi was a brick and landed at a 6/10, which currently ranks it 71st out of 94 grocery store birds I've tried, but the fried chicken was INSANE. Darius wasn't lying, the spicy wings were next level. The best grocery store chicken I've ever had. Boomin the Publix fried chicken. Shoutout to the Darius' and Damariea's of the world. Good people. As always, I am looking for new fantastic restaurants, and stores to try out, and share with: family, friends, and on Yelp. As you walk in it seems like a common corner store, groceries in the front, meat towards the rear. When I walked to the back I had a pretty good hunch this would be a great one. The fresh smell, it was very clean, and the amazing eye catching signage. You could feel like you just walked into in a sweet little store in Mexico. When they handed me the food I ordered I knew was on the right track. When I took my first bites I smiled, and knew, I needed to share this place. I was intrigued by the Pozole Verde sign out front. I had never had it before, so I placed my order for that and zero regrets. It comes out in a quart container with a plastic wrapped foam tray with: chopped onions, cilantro, radish, shredded cabbage, and mexican oregano. I added mostly everything but went easy on the oregano. The chunks of chicken were tender and not overcooked. The hominy and vegetables were just right as well. They have this to a science and it has to be near perfect. Now to the tacos: As you often see in neighborhood grocery stores the chorizo was hanging in back above the meat counter, so a house made chorizo taco was a given. The Al Pastor was reccomend by the one of the butchers, and I had a steak taco to round it, and myself, out. All I can say is that like the pozole everything was superb. Even the salsas.. I wish I knew of this place when I worked and lived in the area. I would definitely have known everyone there by name. I still smile thinking of it, and next time I'm in that hood, I will be there. I look forward to trying out a few more menu items, and picking up some of the fresh meat. So maybe don't slap Grandma... but you should at least pick her up and take her out to lunch here. Enjoy! #AlfieEats
