Got some lunch from this Uptown market and deli. It doesn't look like much but it's good. New York Market makes fresh sandwiches. Has stuff like the falafel. The prices are kind of high but this is better quality. Came and got a sandwich at lunch. It's about $11 to get one. These come with a choice of protein. Among the meats are beef and chicken. The vegetarian choice is falafel. Got a few other things for cheap. They have containers of vegetarian dolmatas for only a few bucks, and these are a pretty good side. Other stuff in the store isn't as cheap. There's a lot of ripoffs, but has some okay things. Has a few items that are pretty cheap. It's more expensive for the fresh sandwiches. There's many things here okay for vegans and vegetarians. read more

Found this place on Yelp and wanted to try it when I was visiting as I was staying nearby and getting in around lunch time. I got my usual turkey sandwich. Multiple bread options so I got Sourdough, toasted. $9.99. It did not disappoint. The turkey was sliced right there and made to order. Definitely had a nice neighborhood bodega feel. One of the hardest part about living on the North Side is having a lil bodega you can go to for; groceries, coffee, cat food, cigarettes - whatever! This place is it. On top of that it has a lovely lil deli where you can get any kind of sandwich (including best Italian beef as mentioned by other yelper) And the mother of it all - the coffee. Uhhh the coffee. Philosophers hazelnut - get it. The first two weeks my SO and i moved in down the block, we had this coffee every morning. Not to mention the people who work there are so genuine! One thing is - keep patience. It is a small privately owned business, they cant keep on extra staff for those few moments they might be extra busy. All in all 10/10 read more

This is a nice convenient store in the neighborhood for people who live in East Lakeview. They have a decent selection of every day items like pop, milk, sandwiches and food bars. I often come here for coffee or for something to eat after the gym. They do get a lot of traffic from fitness formula members so it's best to keep that in mind if you are trying to get in and out quick. read more

I'm as disappointed in you Yelpers... as a Parent whose kid comes home with a bad report card. *waves mustache tattooed finger at your face* It should have been written about by now online pals and galleons. This is my favorite deli. It's located on the first floor of the New York Building by Lake Shore Drive and near the FFC appendage attached to building. It's a deli and a C Store. They have grocery items, wine, beers, coffee, soda (fountain and bottles)... the usual jive. I buy that stuff there in a pinch. But I REALLY like the deli. The salads are some of the best I've ever had. I also like the wraps, soups and paninis. The staff is real nice. Andre is usually working during the morning and day. The owners wife works around lunch and she's very sweet. She makes most of the salads and wraps fresh daily and uses her own recipes. Though grr. The salad size decreased a few months ago. And a cous cous salad I really enjoyed she stopped making. The other cous cous salad is just ok so hope she brings the original back. The pesto chicken (which she told me she created on a dish she ate at her gym) is quite good. But a lot of the salads are great. The owner and his nephew (he's the younger tall cat) are nice. I really enjoy supporting a small family business. Just because I'm disappointed in you Yelpers for not reviewing this hidden gem doesn't mean you have to go without supper. They literally have the best Italian Sub in Chicago. Get it with everything (no olives). It's killer. Also, it's a family owned business and they are very very nice. They treat their costumers with a lot of respect. Also their soups are freaking delicious! They make almost everything they sell (pizzas, cakes, sandwiches, salads, etc.). I have never been disappointed. Oh, and I am an avocado lover, and most of the time their avocados are nicer and cheaper than at Whole Foods or Jewel. Tried this for the first time today, they seem to get very busy during lunch time but they are on top of it and move quickly. I got the Italian sub sandwich with was huge (see picture), cost almost $8 with tax so a little pricey but after eating half of it it was delicious and I'm stuffed! I am a regular customer of New York Market and I always go in here each time I needed a quick grocery, a quick snack, and even a quick nice bite. The store is just small but it was super clean, well-stocked and well organized each time I go in here. the staff in here are nice and friendly as well as the owner. They pretty much had every essential thing you needed at home and seriously, most of the time I really prefer going in here instead going in big grocery stores because it was much easier to shop in here compared to the others. The prices are fair and almost the same with the others. They also have a nice deli section which has good quality meats and cheese. The special sandwiches that are also made in here is absolutely delicious because they use great quality meat on making it. My experience in here is not complete if I did not buy their famous sandwich. The service is really quick too! Highly recommended. read more

New York Market is my go to for quick sandwiches, wine or alcohol emergencies, or coffee in the morning. NY Market has a good sized deli menu and is slightly more than a "convenience" store. They have a ton of stuff you might need in a pinch as well as plenty of things you might just want. If you live in the building and don't feel like going outside in the cold for, ya know, like the whole winter, I think you could make it just with groceries from New York Market. The staff are friendly and welcoming as well. Marcus and Andres are always there to make you a sandwich or sit and chat if you're bored. read more

The guy making my sandwich was remarkably rude to me. It was the oddest thing pretty and surprising he is still employed their. The sandwiches are not that good for the amount of hassle it is to get one made. Apparently the deli doesn't make any sandwiches after 7 PM which is really weird but I guess that is there choice. **** NOTE: This is part 3 of a 27 part series, the convenience stores of Lakeview Aptly named, New York Market is located on the ground floor of the monstrosity known as the New York Building. It's a go-to for people living in the building or nearby. Or in my case, post FFC Gym, which is also in the building. The Pine Grove Ave side can be insanely windy at times. On a bad day (not that rare) you'll be ducking into the wind like a polar explorer just to get from point A to point B. I've actually been blown over by a gust just standing around fidling with my jacket buttons. Then, once you turn off of Pine Grove, the wind dies down by 90%. It's amazing. I don't know if there are three little pigs up in that building or what. The mart has bananas, beer, dvds, candy, cleaning supplies, and whatever else folks up in the tower might need. The owner is a middle aged to older dude, who looks like hes been working the store counter for a little bit too long. He told me that some of the stuff in the deli is made by/ or is his wife's recipe. I haven't tried any of it (even though he encouraged me to) so I can't say if it's any good. The rest is standard fare, sandwiches, pasta salads and such. I haven't tried any of these either. Once he was doing shots of tequila behind the counter and was nice enough to offer me a try. He was in a really good mood that day. read more

Your typical neighborhood corner store, with a few twist... fresh food prepared on the spot! they have a little deli area with Boar's Head meats. They offer a whole list of sandwiches on about 10 bread choices, Croissants included! Oui oui! I tried the chicken panini at the woman's suggestion, they had prepared plain and seasoned chicken breast. She grilled it, got the cheese nice and melty and then topped it with my choice of topping. Also worth a note, the lettuce was a nice crisp leaf of romaine! There was only one person working while I was there making the sandwiches and checking people out so I will say bring your patience but I will definitely be back to try another one! Oh and all the sandwiches come with a free bag of chips, can't beat that For under eight dollars! read more

Special thanks to the kindly, honest staff. Especially Yusef. I recently left my briefcase on the counter whilst picking up some Saturday snack-foods. This briefcase contained my Macbook, and was especially important to me because it had belonged to my father. They do a great job of rotating their seasonal beers and have a pretty good selection of food items on top of the deli.
