New York Marriott Downtown was the hotel I chose for this stay due to its proximity to Chinatown. I needed a place that was convenient and also around that area due to a funeral. It was about a mile from the funeral home, and just a quick 20-minute walk or a 10-minute cab ride. During this trip is was nice to have a good comfortable room and also to be able to turn the air conditioning on. The view of the city was really nice and enjoyable. There is a small sofa lounger right next to it which was also great. The bed itself was large and I did get a ton of sleep. The bathroom in the hotel was also new and updated. I had a generally good experience at the Marriott Downtown in New York City. One of the standout features was the early check-in -- I arrived around 8:00 AM and was able to check in right away, which was a nice surprise. I had called a couple of weeks in advance to ask if I could leave my bag since I wasn't expecting to check in until later, and they said that would be fine. But since I had Gold status, it seems I got lucky and was able to get my room immediately. I just dropped off my suitcase and was on my way. The room itself was great -- clean, cozy, and with a nice city view. Close to great views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Statue of Liberty which I happened across when I went for a run. The location was also perfect for me, very close to the financial district and Brooklyn, making it super convenient. There's also a great running route nearby, which I appreciated. However, my main issue was the resort fee, which was around $30 a day. Technically, you can use it at their restaurants, but the Starbucks on-site doesn't accept it, which was disappointing. The hotel's dining options were very basic American fare -- not what I'd expect, especially in a city like New York. I was hoping for more unique, local dining options. I felt like the resort fee didn't provide much value beyond that. As for the price, it was in the $300 range per night, which I thought was a bit steep. But considering the prime location and convenience for where I needed to be, I felt it was worth it for a short stay. The perfect hotel for my recent stay in NYC! Easy access to a couple subway stations, short walk to the WTC and other shopping, conveniently located for quick travel to Brooklyn and other parts of Manhattan, affordable, and much more! When we first arrived our room was ready early which is always appreciated! After a quick check-in we headed to our room to settle in and then explore! The room was spacious for NYC and felt very comfortable for 2 people. Plus the room was modern/recently renovated, very clean, and had a closet (IYKYK)! There were only a few "negatives" from the hotel which included a 15 minute wait for an elevator in the morning (each one was PACKED and eventually we had to just squeeze in or we'd be waiting another 10+ minutes) and this forced destination fee. I appreciated that we could use the fee at the store and the onsite restaurant, but ultimately it's just a way to force you to spend money on site and when I'm traveling I typically already have restaurants I want to try and don't appreciate being essentially forced to eat/drink at the hotel. I guess it's also worth mentioning that sound travels super easily in the hotel so we could hear kids in the hall in the morning and our neighbors above us at times. It didn't really bother us but if you need complete silence that is unlikely here. Other than that we loved our stay at the Marriott downtown and would easily choose it again. Lobby with the two chairs to sit and the attached shake shack style restaurant chain was uninspiring. Service was fine -- two friendly & two rude front desk members. Upon checkin with luggage, door men stood and did not open the front door. Was glad that I did not extend my stay and that I switched to the Conrad Hilton. Played phone tag and exchanged 15 emails with management team to address concerns. Refund issued which was appreciated. Will be sure to pony up to Conrad, Ritz Carlton NoMad, or another FiDi hotel the next time I'm in NYC. Unlikely to return. read more

Somehow, the first night I was called on my room phone after 10pm to "verify my stay" and had to come down to the front desk. I was charged again on the same corporate card I had given them approximately 12hours earlier when I checked in that day, thinking this was normal/rectified and that I would be all set. For some reason, they said they only had me for one night, even thought my confirmation and reservation clearly showed two. Fast forward a few weeks.. it appears I was charged once for the entire stay properly, then another charge is showing for approx. $400, assuming for their mistake in only thinking/having me down for one night. I am now awaiting this to be cleared up... in many years of travel both corporate and personal, not sure I've ever experienced something like this .. very odd and frustrating. read more

We stayed here for two nights during a visit to NYC this past December. The hotel is great! It's located literally a stone's throw away from one world. It's not far from a subway station at all either. There is a Starbucks right inside the hotel as well. We came for coffee one morning, and it was PACKED. So just be cautious about that. It was also mid December, so I'm sure there were just so many staying at the hotel from out of town. Our room was clean and quite spacious. We had two beds as we were staying with another couple. It was quite pricey, but again, it was Christmas time in NYC, so I guess that would be why. I wouldn't mind coming back to stay here again in the future. read more

Upon checking in, I was asked to provide a credit card. I have the Marriott credit card on file, but I was told it's only to hold the reservation. I left the card I have on file home because I didn't want to carry around extra things. At other Marriott establishments, I've been able to use the card on file. I am thankful, I did bring a credit card with me versus being dependent on Apple Pay (they do not use Apple Pay.) The bed sheets on both beds had some sort of dark colored stains. My son told me his stain was blood. I contacted customer service through the Marriott app, and the sheets were promptly changed. The TV imagine was grayish, and they promptly sent someone up. The TV was swapped out. The main shower head sprayed into the ceiling, and by the time my son informed me of this, I think I was over it. I used the secondary shower heads as an alternative. Location was good. Subway and bus stops within walking distance. There's a restaurant and a Starbucks on site. We were fortunate to have a partial view of what I believe to be the Hudson River. The 9/11 Memorial Park is within walking distance. I think the issues faced during the first 24 hours made this stay a bit disappointing. read more

Originally I was supposed to stay at the Courtyard downtown, but I got an e-mail one day saying that it closed and that my original booking transferred to the New York Marriott Downtown! Seeing as how it was an upgrade and the rate was pretty good, I decided to keep the booking as rebooking for another hotel would've been even more expensive. I think I ended up sacrificing a river view for being able to check into the room at 10 am, which quite frankly was fine with me because the skyline view outside our window was just as phenomenal. Aside from that, our one king room was much more than I was expecting given my previous stays in other Marriott properties downtown. It was actually...kinda spacious? We actually had some room to move around, and even had a couch! And the bathroom wasn't tightly cramped either. Walk-in shower was pretty nice too. Definitely a fan of this room. Staff here were great. We were able to check in at 10 am as I had made a request for an early check-in, which I am sure my newly-minted Ambassador Elite status had helped out with. Plus I got a nice welcome gift as well. All my requests were fulfilled and the people at bellhop was fantastic. Location was not as good as the other Marriott properties downtown, but it's still more than fine. We were easy walking distance from Fulton Street, which has all the train lines running through it. Literally right next to the World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial, which is a big deal for me to stay near for sentimentality purposes. Also realized on this particular trip that I was close to Leather Spa and Xi'an Famous Foods, which I had both wanted to hit. And yes, Joe's Pizza is still close, although not as close compared to the Residence Inn. Valet parking is $65/day, for anyone interested in that. Overall, I was really happy I kept this reservation at the New York Marriott Downtown. They honored the booking rate I had at the Courtyard, which means I super came out on top here. Definitely the best of the Marriott properties I've stayed at in Downtown NY, which means I will be coming back here again because who the hell wants to actually stay in Midtown??? read more

Where to start: I booked a king and they told me basically too bad, we don't have a king room available. The restaurant staff was rude, I even saw a manager yelling at an employee in front of everyone. I spent 2 nights and both nights the food was subpar and the 2nd night I ordered a filet and was given a plastic knife! I had to eat the steak with my hands? Apparently real knives are not allowed for room service. This Marriott is a bit off away from the Tome Square chaos which my family welcomed for our most recent NYC trip. This location is right next to the 9/11 memorial and close enough to many subway stations. There's also a full service Starbucks in the rear of the lobby. That became a life saver during our 3 day trip. As for the rooms; they were very clean and not as cramped as other Manhattan hotels I've stayed in. The beds were very comfortable, but you only get two full beds instead of queens. I did expect this for NYC just based on space available. You pay a $25 food and beverage daily fee that you can use at the market or also in the restaurant (Bills). The staff were what I expected for a full service hotel. The only reason I took away a star is the elevator was acting up most of our stay. Otherwise, we really enjoyed this hotel. read more

I'd say this is a two to three star experience slightly dinged for the lackluster attention to detail on cleanliness. I just barely rounded up on the NYC grading curve for hotel quality recently. More specifically on the cleanliness due to noticeable spots in the bathroom which I wiped away with my own antibacterial wipe when I first checked in. Also one day when they gave a "fresh" floor towel that had black spots on it. The shower was good. Sink slow draining. Lack of detail seems to be a bit commonplace unfortunately for New York City hotels. Bed is as you'd expect from a Marriott, comfortable. Average other accommodations otherwise. For New York, the deluxe room was spacious. I didn't see any mini bar type area. The closet is small, but for me it was fine. Free coffee/tea in the room which is always a plus. Not much room decor otherwise. I did upgrade the view which wasn't too bad. I'd say I enjoyed it and it was worth the small difference when I had my option when booking. read more

Not so nice was having to call down to the front desk for a hair dryer that was missing from the closet, and being awakened at 5 a.m. by the alarm clock (that we didn't check beforehand. Who is supposed to do that nowadays - the traveler or the staff?) We weren't the only ones in our group who experienced that; others were awakened, too, because they also did not think to check the alarm clock when they got in the room. Use your room fee to get a meal down in the restaurant. We were there during the big Flood of Sept '23 and the hotel kindly provided us with free umbrellas as we left to walk to our office and it was raining cats and dogs. read more

Terrible for long-term stays. I spent 2 months at this hotel for a nearby trial. Our team had 5+ rooms, and added as needed for incoming guests, experts, witnesses, etc. Because of the length of stay and number of rooms, we had to work through the hotels event coordinator, who was unresponsive - especially during critical times, which added to an already stressful time for our team. To make matters worse, there was no backup to the event coordinator and hotel managers were unhelpful. The hotel itself is fabulous, and the housekeeping staff was wonderful. Stayed here a few times now and it keeps getting better. Good location: near some subway lines and easy rideshare pick ups. The rennovative rooms are modern and comfortable (not large but its NYC!) The walls are thin so you may be unlucky with a noisy neighbor. If you have access to the executive lounge, you're in for a treat. Beautiful view and great food/drinks. At least it was clean and had a friendly staff. It was also a good location. BUT... You can hear a pin drop from any room around you including the room above you. You can hear everyone coming and going in the hallways late in the evening to early in the morning. The doors all are in need of WD40 and housekeeping yells to each other down the hallways when they start around 7:30 am. The hotel restaurant is more like a TGIFridays and they don't quite have room service figured out. I'm a Marriott fan, but I need my sleep when I travel. read more

I have two rooms reserved under my name and when I checked in the lady I believe her name was Cheryl was very helpful told me only one room is ready at the moment and they will call me once the other one gets cleaned , drama happened 3 hours later when I go downstairs meet their manager Drew Ernst, he said the room next door to my first one has not been cleaned yet, it will take another 2 hours, he asked if we would accept a room that is on the same floor, and we agreed, but went upstairs we found that room is way too far from my parent's , we knew it wouldn't be next door but haven't thought it could be sooo far, so I went downstairs again to ask him to switch back to the next door room and told him we could wait til it's fully cleaned,and we haven't touched anything in the new room, he say no, didn't even check its availability ,says the room next door has been booked 5 mins ago, I said I met the lady who was doing cleaning next door she told me it's not ready yet and how could you assign the room key to another customer since it's not ready yet?? And if it's the case why have you told me I need to wait another 2 hours to get the key til it's done cleaning when I first asked, Ridiculously he said the customer checked through mobile APP, there is nothing he could do. Can't believe such a nice hotel been managed by a person who doesn't even care of their customers at all!!! For the hotel overall I would give 4 stars for the operation manager, he doesn't deserve a star!!! read more

Selected for single night get-away because it was a great value (as hotels in business/financial districts on the weekends typically are)... We were even able to easily get a late check out... But, major "fail" by the staff makes us wonder... About an hour after we checked we asked for an ice bucket... ...followed up on the ice bucket about 30-40 minutes later was told it was coming... ...got dressed to go out, stopped at the front desk on the way out and offered my sympathies for the hard times given the ice bucket shortage, was assured one would be left in our room... ...returned from an evening out, still no ice bucket... ...preparing to check out and depart, still no ice bucket. Believe it or not, I was able to park our big SUV on the street for free the entire weekend and it was easier to find parking spaces than it was to get an ice bucket at the Marriott... read more

I will say there is absolutely nothing my family and I didn't love about this hotel! Before our trip we contacted management about some questions about our trip and were so pleased with how great our exchange with them went before and all the way thru our trip! Upon pulling up to the hotel we were quickly greeted by someone to help us with our luggage, we were able to then check in and the staff was very helpful and kind. The location of this hotel was great, within walking distance to world trade and a block away from many necessary subway stations. We were upgraded to a suite for one of our rooms which they connected to our other room so it was basically a whole condo style to ourselves with views of the statue of liberty on one side and the city on the other! We were given access to concierge level which had a starbucks coffee maker, a great breakfast and plenty of drinks. On the weekends they don't do breakfast so they gave us vouchers to get breakfast at the restaurant which had a full menu or a breakfast buffet, the manager at the restaurant was there every morning chatting with us and was super kind and helpful. Every morning when we would leave to head out for the day the housekeepers were in the hall asking if there was anything we needed, it was so sweet. Every need we could have possibly had was met, even before we knew what we needed sometimes also lol. We will be back ASAP, we are already missing this atmosphere so so much so thank you! We stayed here for our mini quick NY exploration. The view from our room was very nice, we can see the the Freedom Tower and street of NY. I have no complain except for they charge for the rollaway bed. Since we're an Marriott Elite, we maximized the use of Lounge in the 38th floor. Perfect for breakfast and dinner or during cocktail hour, overflowing of drinks, sodas and snacks. They do charge for alcoholic beverage though. Not to mention that they do serve a delicious and decent food. I have quite a few favorite during our stay. The staff were awesome too and very friendly! The sad part is they're closed though during weekends. That's the part we have to go to Bill's Burger downstairs. This location is a good choice if you're looking to explore certain attraction such as Freedom Tower, 9/11 Memorial, Oculus, Trinity Church, Wall Street and Ferry terminal. The subway station that will connect you to almost anywhere is also closed by. I would say it was an awesome stay but not enough to give them five star. Stayed here over the summer for 3 nights and had no complaints! Our room, perhaps because it was a corner room, was spacious for new york standards. Bed was comfortable, large bathroom, it was quiet. Great location close to a lot of attractions - 9/11 memorial, one world observatory, pier 25, brookfield place mall, etc. We even walked to the Brooklyn bridge from this location no problem. They had a burger restaurant and Starbucks inside the hotel which was helpful. I recall the elevators being fast and never a line or long wait - which i know some other smaller hotels have. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the financial district/lower Manhattan. read more

We stayed on the 35th floor we had a view of the Statue of liberty. We had a king size bed, the room was huge and the bathroom was big and nice. My friend was on the 14th floor they had double beds and their room was big as well. You get valet service with in & out for $75 a day. That is amazing bcuz we have stayed at places in New York there is no in & out OR no valet at all. They have a nice bar area and a nice restaurant, the food was really good. The only thing I hate is the bar closed at like 10 or 11 I think that is too early for a bar. This hotel is about 30 mins from JFK airport and 20 mins from LaGuardia airport. We caught the subway to Time square it was 2 blocks from us, and the ride was like 15 mins. On the way back we caught uber it was 30 mins! We love the prices and the space you get, we are for sure coming back to stay here! read more

Overall, I think management needs to step in and review their customer experience by doing their own stay to see what is lacking. This is advertised as a 4-star hotel, but misses many key amenities and touches that make a 4-star hotel, 4 stars. If you have issues with Bill's restaurant, I would contact the front desk to have some of your destination fees waived. Shout out Maria in housekeeping or the front desk for helping me run my order to Bill's when they refused to answer the phone for over 20 minutes. I would suggest getting a Landry's giftcard to spend your $25 elsewhere. See Bill's yelp page for my review, and their consistent customer service complaints. I would avoid staying here, unless its really convenient for you. For over 200 a night, you expect better service and a dedicated hotel restaurant. I stayed here for 5 nights over the holidays, and used SNA to upgrade to a "suite" with views of the harbor. The receptionist carefully explained what was included in my destination fee. The room was ready earlier than expected and I was off on my way. While the room was clean, there were some oil stains from a previous meal on side table - indicating that it wasn't wiped down. Aside from that, there were glaring issues with our experience in the room. There was no ice machine on our floor, so I wandered the floor twice looking for a machine that did not exist. There was no signage to indicate there was no ice machine anywhere. When I tried to call the front desk, the phone had a busy tone. I waited a few minutes and tried again. Turns out, all the quick dial buttons were busy - indicating they weren't set up properly. I had to call the front desk directly on my phone, and they let me know that pressing 0 would also work and that there was no ice machine on my floor. Not exactly the 4-star experience. There were no wine glasses, only disposable coffee cups - so I had to request wine glasses be brought up. Lots of headache for basic amenities. When making use of our $25 credit at Bill's, we had numerous issues with the restaurant. Please see my review on 11/29/2021 for detailed specifics. Its unfortunate that the restaurant doesn't have its own bar and restaurant. If the hotel wants to outsource is food options to an externally managed restaurant, they should make sure their service is up to par. Celeste promised to waive my destination amenity, but I had to contact the front desk again when checking out because the charges stuck. FYI, Starbucks is located in the building, and is listed as an amenity - but the credit cannot be used there. We had breakfast at their lounge 4 times during our visit. Lounge was far too small for the size of hotel. Even at 25% capacity, if every person wanted to dine in for breakfast - there would be a line out the door and people struggling to find seating. Nearly everyday, we faced long lines. Extending their breakfast hours past 9:30 am would probably easy the 9 am rush. It also appears that what was previously a Gold member amenity is now paid for through the amenity fee. So it looks loyalty status is now being watered down. There was attentive staff, checking vaccination cards and clearing tables. On a few of our visits, the person clearing tables had their mask down the entire time and looked like she was miserable. When we politely asked her whether certain items were going to refilled - she answered harshly that there were none left. It seemed like we were given the stink eye everytime we had to interact with her. We chose to dine in our rooms because the lounge was too crowded, and when returning the plates afterwards - she continued to give us dirty looks. No one likes a grouch. On our last day, the bus tour (BigBus Tours) was not running unknown to us or the hotel. Their competitor runs 365 days a year. We were given our tickets the morning of, and wasted an hour of our last day in NYC waiting for the bus to show up. At the stop, we saw other guests waiting for a bus that would never arrive. We went back to the front desk that gave us the tickets - and they apologized blaming the tour bus for not telling them... way to shirk responsibility. Per the the tour buses' website, they are closed only two days of the year, every year, Thanksgiving and New years eve. So this is not something that would have been a surprise to the hotel. The hotel should have disclosed the name of the tour bus in advance, the slip given to us on check-in was vague and did not say the bus company. They waived a days of amenity fee for wasting our time, but I had to push for it. While the gesture was nice, it doesn't make up for the fact we had to replan our last day. read more

Stayed here while in town earlier this year. My review is biased because we got upgraded to the nicest suite they have which was enormous and had phenomenal views. The room was modern and nice. Shower had good pressure and heat. The hotel looked well kept as well. There isn't a ton of stuff immediately around the hotel but it isn't too far away walking distance from some decent restaurants. Would stay here again. Tip: the parking lot across the street is pretty decent. read more
