NYP's newest studio is located on a second floor overlooking Bowery. The space is spacious with two bright studios at each end. There are 3 restrooms and 3 changing rooms, so there is plenty of space to get ready before and after class. In the back corner are benches with pull-out drawers for your belongings. In the studios, I recommend grabbing a reformer close to doors. The reasoning being, the reformer near the windows are very close together and can often get a lot of direct sunlight; both which can be distracting. In terms of classes and instructors, you can't really go wrong with anyone. I've taken Helen, Meg, Regan, Whitney, Katherine, and Jennifer. I really like all of them, but Whitney and Helen are my favorites. For classes, I've taken Reformer II, Arms, Abs, Ass, and Core Cult Jump. I definitely suggest taking Reformer I a few times to get comfortable, as the classes can move quickly. Core Cult is great if you want an extra cardio component added to your pilates! Overall, I really love this studio (all three locations!). They offer an array of classes at convenient times, and I always leave feeling like I got a great workout. read more

Gender neutral bathrooms, calm but modern music (sometimes even upbeat depending on the class!), quirky instructors with great talent for explaining the moves, and a monochromatic aesthetic make this place trendy but approachable. 2 girlfriends and I purchased the 70$ for 3 classes-package for beginners. My 2 friends are much more athletic than me and I was terrified the machine was going to sling-shot me across the room due to my inferior ab-strength. Luckily that did not happen and most people in the beginners class had never used a reformer machine either. I've used my 3 classes and will probably buy another package. It's a fun way to get in shape but not break a huge sweat, and the white washed brick walls and high ceilings make this a fun way to spend an after work evening or Saturday morning (before brunch of course). read more

I came to this location to take a sculpt and restore class and really enjoyed it. I'm relatively new to Pilates, but had a great time in class. The instructor Lisa was great about giving corrections and she really seemed to care about making sure everyone had correct form. The studio itself is beautiful with exposed brick, lots of candles and good amenities in the bathrooms. The woman who checked me in was lovely and welcoming. There are no showers, but they have everything you could need and offer changing rooms and cubbies to store your items. Would definitely recommend if looking for a welcoming Pilates studio. read more

My obsession with NYP started almost five years ago and I can honestly say that I've never had a bad class here. All of the instructors are knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and badass. Currently Nwando, Dana, Alec, Natalie, Cassandra and Annie are on heavy rotation in my workout schedule. I'm recovering from multiple knee surgeries and each of them have made the process so much easier than expected. They're always willing to adjust the exercises for me and check in regularly during class to make sure I'm not in pain. On top of the amazing instructors, the studios are always really chic and stocked with the best beauty products. Thank you NYP for helping me to feel healthy again! Yes the other reviews are true- they do turn you away if you are even a minute late. But what I'll add is that they turn you away while the class isn't even doing any exercising yet- they are just inhaling through the nose, exhaling through the mouth with eyes closed- so stupid. Oh yeah, and the front desk attendant will relish a super bitchy attitude/ fake ass smile when they turn you away. Now as far as the workout- often the instructors will have that same bitchy attitude that you were greeted with upon entering the studio. The attitude that makes their face look like they are smelling a fart. Their voices are nasal and whiney and their workouts not nearly as good as solidcore or bodyrok or SLT. Don't expect a friendly cool vibe from the instructors, they won't even introduce themselves to you or ask your name. The reformer apparatus is used during the workouts more as a secondary prop, rather than the main piece of equipment, I feel. Also all these stupid squeezes and pulses are done with like tiny inflatable balls. Like toys a dog would play with. Last time I was there the playlist was horrid- it had nothing to do with the class, not supporting the workout in anyway. Teachers walk around the class with their arms crossed around their torso and noses stuck high in the air. Like those snooty ballet teachers in cheesy dance movies like Center Stage. read more

While this may be a good studio, the lack of flexibility is absolutely appalling. I rushed here from work to get to a 7:30pm class and unfortunately faced severe subway delays of 20+ minutes. I rushed in at 7:32pm but the extremely unhelpful front desk manager wouldn't let me into the class. She suggested I wait for the 8pm class which was full to see if the waitlist would open up. The complete lack of empathy despite the fact that the instructor acknowledged severe subway delays city wide is appalling. Building at least a 5 minute buffer around the attendance policy is only an empathetic and humane policy that one can expect in a city heavily reliant on the public transportation system. Especially when you are paying $40 for a class. read more

I'm not super in shape, but I found these classes to be a complete non-workout. I've been to other reformer classes, and they're usually quite challenging, leaving me sore. I was surprised because there are so many great reviews, and I expected to be sore since I hadn't worked out in almost 2 months. But I felt nothing. I've went to the Arms, Abs, Ass class and the Reformer Level 2 class. The Arms, Abs, Ass class is slightly better of the two. The instructors are very nice, and they come around to correct your posture. But, although the instructors asked what areas we wanted to focus on, they didn't didn't do much to target those areas! There's also no way to call them, you need to email to get in touch. However, they're extremely quick to respond and friendly. The studio is nice and the dry shampoo is awesome! Overall, there is no way this is worth the cost (even the cost of the Gilt package I got). Go to Pop Physique next door for a much better workout! read more

I recently signed up for ClassPass so used my first credits on an Arms, Abs, Ass class and it was great! The studio itself is beautiful. Clean and well maintained and have great products. The instructor I had was awesome, I believe her name was Natalie! She was funny and really informative as to what we were doing and how, each step of the way. I had never taken a Pilates class before and I didn't feel out of place at all. The only thing I would say is that the classes are expensive, even on ClassPass, but if it's an enjoyable way for you to work out, this studio is worth it! My first and last Yelp review will go to NYP because it is the best place in the world and nothing can compare. I recently purchased an unlimited membership and safe to say it is the best $250 I have ever spent! In the past I often used to skip the gym because I was too tired to go to the gym but with Pilates I always find the energy to go! The studios are absolutely amazing... the décor is super chill and they smell amazing and are extremely clean. I have been to each location but if I had to pick I would probably say Bowery is my favorite location. It is also right across from Whole Foods which makes grocery shopping right after class extremely clutch. If you have never done Pilates reformer all I can say it is unlike any other workout. It is such a great toning workout but also SOOO relaxing at the same time. It is the perfect way to de-stress after a long day at work and also feel good after! I thought I would feel the need to go to the gym some days to lift weights but there is absolutely no need, you get everything you could ever need in a class! I am signed up to take a class with Heather in 2 weeks and I couldn't be more excited! I only wish she taught classes outside of working hours (I am going in late to work just so I can attend one of her classes). Also not sure why some people say this studio seems "snobby/greedy." No other studios offer as good of an unlimited deal as NYP and the people are so nice! Plus, I am originally from the Mid-West so I'd say I have high standards of friendliness! read more

New York Pilates is one of the cutest studios in NYC. It's beautifully decorated, with exposed white bricks. There are cubbies, a few private bathrooms, and changing rooms. The workout itself, was okay. I hadn't taken a pilates class in a while so I went with the beginners class. I was a member and had to cancel my membership. First things first I will say that I enjoyed it at first and the staff was always nice. But it's not a real work out so if you're looking to really sweat and see results I wouldn't recommend this place. The most challenge classes are Arms, Abs, Ass class and the Reformer Level 2 class and you'll barely break a sweat and that's if there's even space in the class for you to sign up. The classes are always packed and even as a member I had to book a class weeks in advance to ensure a spot which is absurd considering what they charge. I have been going to NYP since it opened and still can't get enough! I'm addicted! If I want a full body toning, I take Abs Arms Ass. If I want some cardio, I take Core Cult jump class. For my more sensitive days, I take Sculpt and Restore. NYP keeps my abs ripped and my ass lifted! Plus, the studio is super hip- not your normal, run of the mill workout studios. Best Pilates studio in NYC! The studio is immaculate with new machines. The vibe is very bright and airy. The teachers are well trained and excellent at what they do. The classes have various levels to appeal to anyone from a novice to an expert. My favorite teacher is Nwando - she's patient, takes time to correct form, and keeps things "spicy."
