Do remember companies often pay for placement. Read the more neutral 0-3 star reviews when accessing this business. What quickly becomes tedious are the waitlists and charges. As others have indicated, you cannot build a rhythm or routine with the studio because your desired time will fill up. Likewise, if you are attempting to be flexible it then becomes a nuisance because you risk a charge for signing up. In regards to the terrible service. Yes, as reflected by others on Yelp the company has adopted a "volunteer program" which favors the privileged Manhattan bubble as those living in other Burroughs are working for "free Yoga" which is illegal and unfortunate as this is institutionalized racism. If you are in a morning class, you'll hear the disgruntled "staff" (volunteers) starting shifts and you'll have to wait and not eavesdrop for five minutes while signing up as they gossip about their boss. Likewise, if you're there at night they will be yelling at consumers to finish their showers quickly because they want to go home and aren't being paid enough to be there. MoDo Yoga needs to pay for their employees, not use "volunteers" who try to opt for Free Yoga which BTW is provided by the city and there are many spots which offer a more reliable and free alternative. What's really tragic is that these volunteer programs allow employers to evade healthcare; retirement, and human needs. It is not merely usurious; it is shameful, and it requires action. If you're on here to review consider also placing the same review as a complaint with Consumer Affairs at the DA's office by googling "Consumer Affairs, NYC." A form will pop right up which will be more effective than a Yelp review. Though I strongly encourage Yelp and any outward reporting. I'm equally concerned as consumers have been reporting defects which limit access for those with disabilities or children. To file an online claim one may Google "ADA New York File a Complaint"

While I intended to search for a decent steam room in NYC, I instead discovered Modo Yoga in freezing snowy weather, a hot yoga studio where students practice in a heated room. What I really liked about this studio is that it is not only a studio where students practice yoga in a heated room, but there is also an incorporation of spirituality and safe space, which is something rare when it comes to hot yoga or classical yoga. There's this calming effect after the practice which is something that usually I feel after practicing kundalini. So far I have taken only two classes and I really liked Sasha's class... his class had me coming back for a double and considering about signing up for a month unlimited. Modo Yoga is located two doors down from Benefits, and you have to walk up the stairs because the elevator does not go to the second floor. The staff members are really nice and the mats, blankets, towels, and re-usable bottles are on-the-house for first time students, even if you come back for a double on the same day with a few hours gap. For a re-usable stainless steel bottle, you have to leave your ID at the front desk. They have filtered water to fill up your bottles... and hot tea too. After practice, the mats are to be wiped down by each individual students on the hanging rods. The changing rooms are equipped with lockers with built-in locks, two sinks, three toilets and four shower stalls. It is recommended to drink about two glasses of water 90 minutes prior to the practice and two glasses of water with lemon, sea salt, or an electrolyte replenisher after the practice. $40 for the first month unlimited and $115 afterwards.

After a week straight of yoga, I thought it was time I wrote a review. From the first day, Modo was on my A-list. I joined on the $40 unlimited month of yoga promo and arrived bright and early for the 6:30 AM class. Little did I know, I had signed up for Modo Flow, which is one of the more rigorous classes. Regardless, I braved through and that set the tone for the rest of my yoga affair. Expect a workout. Expect sweat. Lots of it. Puddles of it. Expect great, silky skin after flooding out your pours in hot sessions day to day. Every class is hot yoga with a twist. Each teacher has their own style and spin to it, which I appreciate. The facilities are well kept and they do a great job at removing that too familiar "hot yoga studio smell". Friendly, bubbly instructors are there to greet you as you walk in. A wall of greenery lines the tea and water station. Clean changing room and a sufficient number of showers--never a wait. All around great things from this studio.

Rentals and drinks available. $2 for mat, mat towel, and shower towel each. $1 for a water bottle.

Favorite spot in the city for hot yoga! Get there early so you can save a spot since it can get pretty crowded. As you can see in the other yelp reviews there's an unlimited special for the first month for $40, which is a great deal. I don't believe rentals are included though (mat, mat towel, shower towel $2 each, water bottle $1), so I recommend bringing your own supplies as this can add up. When you get into the studio, make sure you choose your spot and align your mat with the little L's marked on the floors. I would recommend the second row right by the poles so you have a little more space. It can definitely get crowded and there are some positions where you end up being on someone else's mat. Also, as a personal preference, I tend to try to be near women (sorry guys), as guys tend to get more sweaty and exude their own eau de parfum... The class itself is great. My favorite so far was with Lawrence. It was equally challenging and calming. You almost forget that the class is 90 minutes! The studio is clean and smells decent for a hot yoga studio. The classes usually have a good mix of students of all levels. I've had a great experience so far. For classpassers: The spots can fill up for this studio. Reservations open 7 days in advance so plan accordingly! You will be provided with free rentals for the first time you reserve through classpass. P.S. Sniffing those yoga blocks is a bad idea.

Because I just hit my three year anniversary of practicing at Modo West Village, it's time for an updated review.. In almost a decade of practicing, I've never had a yoga studio that I loved so much. Even through years of teaching, I've never met kinder or better guides through my yoga journey. -If you've practiced Bikram and you love the heat but hate the rigidity, come to Modo. -If you want some healing postures and some guidance but not having to fit this perfect idea of how the posture 'should' look, come to Modo. -If you want a yoga home, a safe space filled with loving and joyous people, come to Modo. -If you want sweaty yoga but you can't afford to pay upwards of $200 a month, come to Modo ($115/mo). Teachers to look out for: Michael (check out his Yang Yin or Modo Flow) Sasha (check out his Modo) Siobhan (Freestyle Flow - killer core work, challenging flows) Chandler (Yang Yin. Her classes are challenging and thoughtful) Lawrence (Freestyle, Modo Flow, or Yang Ying - calm voice, hard work, always consistent) Kyle (Freestyle or Hot Yin- his yin classes are to die for, freestyles are wickedly good) Valerie (Modo Flow or Freestyle- such passion in her flows and the words just sound SO much cooler in a Haitian accent! :P) Guillaume (one of the studio owners, Freestyle Flow- so challenging, so divine!). Also Maddy, Katrina, Josh, Zoe....the list could go on & on. The studio assistants at the front desk are so kind and such welcoming people. Do note that Modo has a policy that if you show up as class is starting, you won't be let in. Coming in after the teacher has gone in disturbs the quiet calm of the room and it throws the students off. There are also no cell phones in the room and no leaving early. Yes, this is NYC and some studios allow that kind of stuff but at Modo, they encourage us to have respect for our fellow New Yorkers and yogis. We're all just trying to find some zen in this madhouse of a city. Their facilities are great and although they've upgraded over the time I've been practicing, the bathrooms still aren't as quite as perfect as Williamsburg. The floors in both studios have been upgraded recently and they're so lovely and perfect for practicing. Filtered water is available to fill up your bottles from home and there's juice and tea you can purchase, too. Mat, towel(s), and water bottle rentals are available and cheap. Seriously, for $40 bucks for the first month, there are no excuses *not* to come.

During our whirlwind of a weekend visiting NYC, my husband and I woke up on a Saturday morning and…read moredecided we could both use a little bit of yoga to start our day... We searched Yelp for a nearby studio with a class that was appealing and we found that this new Midtown East CPY studio had a Core Power Yoga 2 class that morning... we weren't sure we'd make it, and we walked in just a few minutes before the class started, but the ladies at the front desk worked with us to get us registered and into the class and we were so appreciative. Kelsea W was our teacher and she was fabulous... she had some unique sequences that allowed my mind to focus on the present moment and just move / enjoy the class. Needless to say, it was exactly what I needed! The studio itself is spacious, offers lockers, bathrooms, water refills, a bit of a retail store, mats, towels, and more... So yes, CPY is a chain, but it's consistent and if you find the right teacher / class, you'll get just what you need in that moment. Thanks again, Kelsea!

We've been coming to CorePower Yoga - Midtown East for over a month now and have really enjoyed…read moretheir CP2 and YS classes. We've had the chance to take classes both in the mornings and evenings, and have likely practiced with most of their instructors at least once. The class schedule is great, and with our membership, booking spots for the high-demand classes isn't a hassle. We've had no trouble getting off the waitlist for early morning sessions either. All of the instructors have been friendly and excellent to work with, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Even when classes are full, the space doesn't feel too cramped, which makes for a comfortable and enjoyable experience. We highly recommend this location!
