We stumbled onto this restaurant on Clifton Hill, just passed Victoria Avenue. You can't tell by the name of the restaurant but it is a chinese food establishment. It looks unassuming and it has a large menu. We had been eating alot of burgers, steaks and fries so this was a welcoming sight! We had been walking for 7.5 miles, so quite exhausted and just wanted something to take back to the hotel with us. So we ordered 2 items to go: Beef chow drum and a bbq pork fried rice. The ladies working there were very nice and after taking our order, they offered us seats to sit and we only had to wait about 5,10 minutes. They gave us 2 LARGE orders in a to go containers and they were thoughtful too by giving us plates, some sauces and plastic utensils and chopsticks! Our food was still hot when we ate them about 30 min later. The flavors were good, not salty at all like some places. They gave us a lot of meat in the beef chow fun and great bbq portion in the fried rice. Customer service was outstanding and the food is reasonably priced with huge portions and delicious! My wife and I shared the beef with bean sprouts-- the dishes were big enough we didn't need two, which makes this one of the most affordable places on Clifton Hill. And the food was phenomenal. So was the service. I'm learning Mandarin, and the hostess helped correct my pronunciation. I'm very grateful for getting to enjoy some authentic Chinese cuisine in this cozy little book. read more

I personally am I huge fan, but I also don't really ate Chinese anywhere else, so I can't comment as to have to compares to other places. I had the spicy shrimp I believe, it was good. But my main reason for going is the egg rolls! I only had one with my meal, but I brought 4 home. I love their egg rolls so much, I love that it is bean sprouts instead of cabbage like so many egg rolls are that I see. Food was outstanding for a casual restaurant. We ordered Fried Duck, Garlic Bamboo Shoots with Scallops, Beef with Bittermelon, Lo Mein and a few others. Service was attentive, and the server even advised that the bamboo shoots had a stronger seasoning than the usual North American Chinese versions to give us an idea of what to expect. Stopped by because everywhere had super long lines when we visited. We actually haven't had "American Chinese" food in a long time and we were quite excited for it. I'm actually never had 'fake Chinese food' that I didn't like, so I was quite disappointed. Egg roll was soggy and fried rice was bland and also a little off tasting. You can't get vegan mockmeats anywhere else in Niagara Falls, Ontario, to my knowledge, so New York Restaurant offers something unique. We got the braised beancurd with vegetables (C$12) but it was way too oily. I mean, oil was squirting out of the spongy tofu when you tried to fork into it. The sauce also lacked flavor. The gluten with broccoli (C$12) wasn't much better, with a similarly bland sauce. The gluten here isn't seasoned at all and has a rubbery texture. It's not like the gluten you see at Chinese restaurants in the US, which tends to be more flavorful and better textured. The vegan beef with green pepper in blackbean sauce (C$13) was the best thing we had, with a decent sauce and nice fake beef. I used the sauce from this dish to improve the bland gluten and broccoli dish. The portion sizes are decent and I found the service to be perfectly warm and inviting, unlike other reviews have mentioned. All told, if you're looking for decent vegan Chinese food, New York Restaurant is your best bet in central Niagara Falls. read more

And the beef was super tender. The pork chop was nice and crispy. It wasn't too spicy, so I asked for the hot sauce. Which was pretty good. It was nice and vinegary and not too spicy. The place does look a bit drab. BUT the server was amazing and the food was delicious. Although to give them credit, the other tables did order more authentic food. We were just looking for a quick, easy bite to eat with no leftovers, which meant ordering off of the lunch menu. Service - Had to flag down the waitress to get anything - ordering, getting water, getting our check... there were a total of THREE parties eating. The waitresses were standing around in the other room. The food - Oh gosh, we ordered the lunch special. THREE of our dishes came with the same sauce and a FOURTH was too salty. I hope they find more attentive waitresses and change up the variety of sauces they use. Never again. So we ordered small size chicken corn soup(3.95), orange chicken(16), pork chop seuy(14) with 2 bowl rice cost $50 which included tips without asking us. Service was not good, if the food would have been amazing I wouldn't even care of the service but the food was just ok. Travelers, be very careful for extra service fees, they add the tip and other service charges even if two people are dining. The sodas are very very small glasses without refills. I am in the food industry and understand we have to nickel and dime BUT I wouldn't come back because they did not inform of any extra charges. I asked if the schezwan chicken had a lot of gravy and she said yes a lot but it barley had any BUT they did bring me some more sauce after 15 mins, I will appreciate that part. Whenever I'm in Niagara Falls and I get that craving for chicken fried rice, I come here. Whether its with my fams or friends. As soon as you walk in you can see the sketchiness, but I went in to give it a try. Ordered the chicken fried rice, chicken balls, veggie noodles, that's usually what we order when I come here. The food is reasonably okay, nothing spectacular. I feel as though they can work harder to make the food more tasty and better. That's why I say the food is only okay. In Niagara Falls its not So common to find Chinese restaurants as it would be in the city, so you gotta work with what you have but then again I don't come here too often. Maybe if you combined the bland blandyness of the New York Restaurant and the face sucking saltiness of the Guru, you'll have some edible food. On the upside, the waitress was very nice. And while super salty food is tough to fix, bland food is easily soy and chili sauced. I ordered the soy satay beef. The rice was fluffy and soft, and the spring roll was decent enough. TLDR; Rotten meat unfresh ingredients don't bother spending your money here. I was visiting Niagra Falls and was waiting for dusk for the lights to turn on, so my group decided to walk along Centre Street and find a Chinese place for dinner. From the outside this place already looks a bit sketchy and run-down, but we decided to give the place a chance--our growling stomachs helped speed up the decision as well. As a group of three, we ordered three bowls of rice, a chicken and mushroom, an eggplant and fried tofu, and a beef and bokchoy. To put it frankly, the meat tasted rotten. The chicken was mad sketchy (tasted a bit old). The beef was okay, but not fresh at all. The fried tofu tasted TERRIBLE. All three of us had to spit it out; that's how old the tofu was. We complained to the waitress, and thankfully, we were exchanged with a celery and meat substitute/cashew vegetarian dish, which was the best out of all the dishes (probably by then the chef was more aware that unlike the other customers unknowingly gulping down all this old meat, we could taste old ingredients a mile away). We found some tiny ants crawling along the window ledge where our table was and one member of our group found an ant crawling onto her plate. I kept on sneezing once inside the restaurant (as I am terribly allergic to places with dust/old carpet). The only redeeming factor of this dinner experience was the waitress serving us was very apologetic about our ordeal and was very nice, but besides that, I would advise anyone visiting niagra falls on the Canada side not to bother looking for Chinese cuisine and instead stick with the more established, cleaner restaurants closer to the falls. read more

Had to bring my Chinese parents to a Chinese joint because they don't really prefer much of anything else that's near by. Was surprised to see a few tables of Indian families, at least I'm glad the Indian folks enjoy Chinese as much as our Jewish friends! TERRIBLE SERVICE EVEN BEFORE WE ENTERED. I never give reviews and I felt inclined to leave a complaint. We are a Chinese family that wanted to grab a meal here and we were treated terribly even before we got in. The manager told us if "we don't want to eat here then leave" in a very rude tone. Is this how you want managers to treat you when you enter? They also didn't feel the need to treat us with respect because they saw we were a Chinese family and didn't feel that Chinese people need to respect other Chinese people. Terrible service. Food arrive first from looks was weird compare to several different chinese resturant I been to eg : The sizzling beef had gravy like Hakka style was too thin, dry taste was not comparable ..
