WARNING - Never use this company. I called on a Monday for a service call and David Payne returned my call. The appointment was set for that Friday At 3:00. At 3:15 I called to check if he was still coming and got voice mail. He arrived at 3:26. He proceeded to tell me he tells everyone he might be 30 minutes early or 30 minutes late. I guess that's why he told me it was 3:26. I said I didn't hear you say that but still it was no big deal until he snapped at me "I tell everyone". He was so rude I said well, do you even want to do our job and he said no and left. I put this information on Nextdoor.com to try to warn others and that started his retaliation. He went on about me being upset because he was late but I was upset for being so rude to me and unprofessional by walking off our job. At that point people started sending me their thanks and telling of their personal experiences with David Payne through private messaging because they were afraid of his verbal retaliation. I hope this helps someone else. From all the private messaging i have received on him it seems he runs hot and cold. On a good day you might get a professional and one of his bad days you will get a major jerk. read more

I wanted to hire them to assess problems with my irrigation system (dry spots and a gushing leak)- David was so rude and condescending. He spoke over the top of me, interrupted me, he was very concerned with the fact that I did not describe my issue using the proper irrigation lingo. sorry, I don't do irrigation for a living! I immediately asked him to leave my property. I would never do business with a company whose employees are so rude. I am a super nice person, but I will not be treated this poorly. read more

This review is strictly based on quote process and pricing. I called New Zealand to get a quote as they had done some work for other homeowners in my community. I needed to cap off sprinklers and add a couple in the back. The gentlemen I spoke to on the phone didn't come out to my property as he told me he's done a lot of work in this neighborhood, which made sense, and seemed to understand what I was asking to be done. His quote over the phone was more than $1,000, this seemed salty to me as I really didn't think I was asking for much. I called another reputable irrigation company that some of my other neighbors used, they did exactly what I asked for, for less than $500 and I am very happy with the end result. I think he would have been better off doing quotes in person rather than over the phone. read more

They came to my house on short notice and did a great job fixing my sprinkler system. I highly recommend!

Had them out twice to diagnose and repair our older system. They could not find or fix the problem and their prices are way out of line for the services performed. $1200 for two visits and the system is still not operating properly as it should. Their diagnosis was that I have a "restriction somewhere" but gave no recommendations as to fix the problem. Do not recommend this company. read more

We paid New Zealand irrigation $685 to install a new control panel and repair broken heads. When we scheduled the appointment, I thought David Payne, the owner, would be coming out but instead he sent Mickey. David never came by to inspect the work that was done. We were billed for items that were not provided (for example, donuts, which we bought ourselves). I also noticed a sprinkler head lying on the ground. We repaired this ourselves. When I contacted David, I was told that I'd receive a credit but I never did receive a credit. Shortly after the work was done we received an astronomical bill from our utility provider. They confirmed that our irrigation system had used 10,000 gallons of water in one month. We live in a manufactured home and our property is 6500 square feet and our home is 1500 square feet. I called New Zealand Irrigation to explain the situation and explain the urgency (our next bill, according to the County is going to be even higher, given the current reading) but I received no response. I had another irrigation company come out and they determined that not only was the timer the cheapest one, but Mickey had programmed the irrigation system to do all four zones four times each day that the system operated. In addition, there were sprinkler heads that were broken that were supposed to have been repaired and one of the sprinkler heads was angled in such a way that water was shooting in the lake. There seems to be no follow up. I would not recommend this company. Subsequent to posting this review, David Payne, the owner of New Zealand Irrigation contacted me. He claimed that his office called and left me a voicemail (I never received a voicemail). After a lengthy conversation with David what I learned is as follows: David does not have time to inspect jobs that his employees do. He explained that he has so many customers that he wouldn't be able to take on new customers if he had to follow up and inspect the jobs that his employees do. He said that when he tells a customer that he will do the work, this should not create an expectation on the part of the customer that he will be the one showing up. In our case, David didn't show and didn't follow up either. Although David has never set foot on my property, he stated that there was nothing wrong with the way the timer was programmed by his company, that a $45 increase in a water bill since his employee repaired our system (as a result of irrigation) was "normal" and he couldn't explain why my irrigation system had used 10,000 gallons of water. David referred me to the warranty printed on the invoice he sent me. However, there was nothing on the invoice about his warranty. He changed the invoice during our conversation to include the warranty verbiage. The irrigation company that we've hired to replace the heads that NZ Irrigation was supposed to replace, will be doing the work on Friday and I'll be posting an updated review on the extent of the work and the cost. The company that came out to do the work confirmed that there were 6 heads and one rotor that needed replacing. The owner did the work himself and he is licensed and they warranty their work. read more

I was very pleased with my recent irrigation system repair provided by New Zealand Irrigation. David Payne, the owner, responded to my call promptly, understood the work that needed to be done, and set a service date which was respected! His technician, Mickey, called to let me know he was on the way and arrived on time. Mickey did a thorough review of my 5 zone irrigation system and explained exactly what was needed and priced out the repair work. A second visit was needed to complete the job and again, he called ahead and arrived when expected. The cost was reasonable for the amount of work completed and the parts that were replaced. Buyer beware: New Zealand Irrigation. HIGHLY rude to clients. I have been a paying customer for 3 years and two weeks ago had them come to fix a problem. The problem was supposedly fixed but here we are, 2 weeks later, and it's not. He was incredibly rude to me. Hung up on me twice. Told me the problem is that my husband and I don't communicate well because of something he told my husband 3 years ago even though I'm the one who called and was present for the appt 2 weeks ago. He did not tell me what the real issue was when he came to 'fix' it, and basically just put a band aid on the problem and now won't come out to address it without a service fee. My husband accidentally cut a small section of the sprinkler hose with a chain saw while trimming a tree close to the ground. I reached out to David and he returned my call (I left a voicemail) that afternoon. He said he would swing by and take a look at it. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend New Zealand Irrigation. I was quoted a price for a job that I assumed would take more than an hour to complete. Once the tec arrived and started work on the issue it took him less than 15 minutes to complete the job. I then assumed that I would be billed for the job as stated on their web site. Instead I was billed for the original price quote. When I contacted them about the discrepancy in the bill I was told that sometimes the job takes longer and the homeowner makes out on the bill and sometimes when it takes less time than anticipated their company makes out on the bill. This practice is highly unprofessional and unfair. If you decide to use them just understand that you may be paying more than is necessary. read more

I called this companyfrom my office phone on a recommendation from a neighbor and asked them to call my cell number, which I left on their voice mail. They returned my call the next day, on my work number. I asked if they received my message about using my cell number with no response. I asked when they could come out to look at my sprinkler system and they told me they were booked up until the end of the following week. I said I would hang onto their number and call them back. I presume it was the owner who replied to me "Don't bother. We're really busy." Well I'm surprised you are with that type of attitude! The worst experience with David the owner of New Zealand Irrigation After reading all those wonderful reviews I called to make an appointment to check my irrigation system. David gave me a time, and when they did not show up on time, I called and got "ridiculed" by David, telling me that if I can't wait then he do not want to conduct business with me. He explained that because of the nature of his business he can never predict, what time they would come, but will always call if they are late more then 1 hour. I even apologized for being "impatient" and Nathan came out 45 min. later. He was very friendly and helpful and I was very happy. Unfortunately the communal water was not turned on and Nathan could not check the system. I went through an extensive process with the HOA of my community to have the water turned on today. Nathan told me he will be here today at 10:00am. Nobody showed up and I called at 10:08am, 11:07am, 11:37am, left messages, a friend of mine called at 12:00PM , left a message, I called again at 12:33pm, and at 1:09pm... finally David picked up the phone and told me that I had a 9:00am appointment and that they were at my house at 8:47am... he said that the rang the doorbell and I did not answer. What a LIE!!!! I was home, nobody rang the doorbell, nobody called nor did anybody call me back. I had to find another irrigation company to come out today before they shut the water down again. I found out about David at New Zealand Irrigation by asking one of my neighbors who they use at their home. His business was highly recommended. I had a zone not working at all and was dreading the cost so I let it go for years. After making the appointment I felt that I had nothing to worry about. The technician called before he arrived and was very sanitary with his operations. (Due to the covid-19 virus). I really appreciated that. After thoroughly checking my whole irrigation system I was told what needed to be done to fix the zone that wasn't working properly. Also was also advised on some other work that could be done to make the system work better. Lift a few heads and replace one of the heads that wasn't working. I got the tune up and everything fixed and/or adjusted for a very reasonable price I thought. I believe the tech was at my home for about 2hrs. I highly recommend New Zealand Irrigation. read more
