I miss when the Newbury Comics was by the Sears & had two floors. It's been a while since they moved from that location to the other side of the mall by the Target escalators and Lego store. Much smaller now, BUT much more organized and easy to find stuff. I have been on the hunt for sonny angel hippers and was elated to find them here yesterday! They are behind the counter at check out for $20/each, limit 4 per person. I originally decided to just buy two and we opened the blind boxes in the car. I was hoping to get a pink one, however, unfortunately did not hit. Now, it is 6 min before closing and we figured, what the heck? Why not go back to get two more hahaha. So, we rushed back into the mall (special thanks to the workers for letting us pick up two more, last min before close!) and bought two more. Anyways, I ended up getting one pink one and a blue mouse this time around! Total for 4 was ~$84. I love what I ended up getting though! Definitely a sucker for blind boxes from time to time, but it's so fun ;) read more

Since moving to the other side of the mall, the store has gotten more organized and feels refreshed even though it's smaller. They have whole racks of manga books, pop funko bobbles (some exclusives etc) and a glass case of chase pops (not retail pricing) They have hobby merch, accessories, tee shirts, music, tidbits all about. Glad they still surviving and offering products to the south shore! The store employees are attentive if you need help, they folks i used to know there have since moved on but looks like the store is run well still! read more

Been a huge fan since 1982 when the only two locations were in Newbury Street and The Garage in Harvard Square. They always had the best selection of independent vinyl and Indy newspapers and magazines. They used to carry some t-shirts too. Nowadays, rather commercial. Vinyl is coming back but with the advent of MP3 has made anyone a musician. Hard to keep up with the corporate iTunes and Spotify etc. Good store. A trip down memory lane. read more

If you've been to Newbury Comics you know most are identical. For me, the only reason to go to different locations is for the used products; dvd's cd's etc. these are usually widely varied and sometimes that rare gem pops up making the search worth the effort. Few things are as satisfying as finding an old favorite album or movie you forgot existed. And they carry Marvel comics and related gear, double bonus! read more

I've visited this store several times when I've stayed at the nearby Hyatt Place hotel on business. This location has a good (not quite great) vinyl selection and a better CD selection. They participate in Record Store Day and I was able to find one of the limited edition vinyls that I had wanted for the 2017 RSD. They have a large t-shirt section with shirts from various bands to Star Wars. They also have a large selection of Dr. Who collectibles. And, of course, a large comic book selection. Finally, this store stocks a rather good array of Patriots and Celtics gear. read more

A mecca for nerds and geeks alike. Or any parents, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters who are looking for the perfect gift. The greatest thing about the store is the vast amount of items they sell. DvDs that are used are prevalent in the bottom level, and a bonus: the ones I bought were cheap and had no scratches on them. The amount of movies they had was mind blowing, probably had more movies than superstores like Walmart. If you watch TV shows religiously, I'm sure you will find items with some relevance to it. I found a neat shirt that Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory wore. Bazinga! There are many items that are constantly on sale and are good. The staff are friendly and the place is very clean. I'm very glad this is my go-to place if I need to get a present or a gift for anyone. read more

The new Newbury Comics space is amazing!!! We went to the plaza on Saturday to escape the heat and checked out the new NC.Located in the former FYE space, upstairs houses housewares, fashion, and other fun stuff, while downstairs has music, dvd's, and books. Everything is so spread out, in a GREAT way, unlike the old NC at Braintree 5 corners. My girlfriend and I were even surprised to see a few dresses designed by Betsey Johnson for NC. After we checked out upstairs we went downstairs, looked at some of the books they had out. It was so nice to not be right on top of other people, anyone who has been to the old NC in Braintree knows exactly what I'm talking about. Staff was friendly too! read more

I was looking for a business that was participating in national Record Store Day, November 28, also known as Black Friday. Since I was going to be in nearby town Norwell, I called Newbury Comics in Braintree to see if they would be participating, and if they had the RSD special offer I was looking for, a limited edition 3LP vinyl set called Gentleman at 21, a re-release by the Afghan Whigs (my favorite all-time band). Granted, I didn't call until Black Friday morning, so I was really rolling the dice. The woman I spoke to assured me that they were participating, and saw that they had one copy left of the Gentleman at 21 set. She told me that they weren't that busy, and that she could set it aside for me until I could get there. Fast forward several hours, and having many issues getting to Newbury Comics, I finally arrived at the store. They still had held it for me! The cashier at the front knew exactly where it was being held, and ring me up quickly. I was in and out of the store within five minutes on Black Friday! Unbelievable! My only critique of the store is that I was supposed to receive a "freebie bag" with my purchase, which I never received, and unfortunately forgot to ask for before I left. This is something that I cannot get anywhere else and was only available with my purchase on that particular day. Additionally I feel like Newbury Comics is getting away from having many graphic novels or actual comic books. There's a lot truth behind those that say it's becoming more like a Hot Topic or Spencer's store. However, I'm grateful that they were participating in the national Record Store Day, as this particular set of vinyl is absolutely priceless to me. I went to the Newbury comics in Braintree for years, and when I heard they were getting moved into the South Shore mall, at first I was really skeptical. The south shore mall location has two stories, which is great given how much merchandise they have - they can spread it out and not make it look cramped. The top floor is mostly clothing, so I skip that and head right downstairs, where all the good stuff is. The staff there are really friendly and down-to-earth. I always enjoy going there. read more

Most Newbury Comics seem the same to me; a decent selection of comics with some Variant Editions tossed in, a cool vinyl selection, some nerdy gear/accessories, and a lot of clothes. I love Out of Print Clothing as much as the next bookworm, but I always feel like the store is a mix between a comic shop and Urban Outfitters/Hot Topic. However, what makes this particular Newbury stand out among the rest because it actually has space, two floors to be exact. A buddy of mine took me here to help me pick out my first comics, and a Variant Edition of Thors #1 Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a 50% Iron Man, 100% Variant Grab Bag, House of M #1, and some comics for a friend later, I had begun a new hobby, ie. obsession. Newbury isn't the best comic store in the Boston area, but it's pretty user friendly and caters to far more than just comic book nerds. read more

I went into Newbury Comics at this location, like I have with many of the other stores in the chain, just to browse and hopefully find something that caught my eye. I did see a lot of interesting things while i was walking around with my girlfriend for 30 minutes, but here's where my concern lies: When I entered the store, I wasn't greeted and didn't see anyone (working) for about 5 minutes. I made my way from the Manga section in the front of the store over to where they keep their POPs. I remembered their chase variants being by the door, but now they're by the register so I started to look at those and more of their chase pops behind the register up on the wall. There was one female working near the register and she never said anything to me. I was standing at the register looking, intently, at these pops and she never asked me if I needed help or even said hello to me. So my gf and I walk downstairs to check out cds and comics and their clearance area (which is way more wide open than I remember). I believe there may have been 1 guy working down there, whom also did NOT greet us as we walked around. So I just wanted to test out a hypothesis I had been tossing around in my head. I made my way to the down stairs counter, where this young gentleman was working, and I leaned over the counter to get a better look at whatever product was behind the register. It might've been a gundam figure or something of that nature, but I honestly don't remember now because all I could think was, "Wow. This dude SEES ME right now and hasn't said a word to me." I can't see that far anyway, but what if I was elderly with even worse vision. He didn't say hello. The girl up stairs didn't say hello. The 3rd person working (upstairs) didn't say hello. This is UNACCEPTABLE. Truly disappointing. I haven't had ANY issues at any of the other Newbury Comics I've been to except this one. I typically shop in Dartmouth, Attleboro, and sometimes Kingston, I don't often get up to Braintree, but this experience made me NOT want to come back. I'd rather go to one of the other locations. I get to Kingston (which is the furthest of my usual 3) about twice a month IF THAT, and those girls and guys are ALWAYS welcoming and I don't know them as well as I do the Dartmouth crew. ALSO, after talking to a friend of mine, after this experience, he told me he was in your store LAST WEEK with his wife and got the same silent treatment. What the hell, Braintree?! Step up your ish! I hate the manager here. He's a guy with long straight brown hair and is complete jerk. I've had a couple run ins with him. First, when I stopped by the follow up on my job application, but was wanting to get me out of that store. He told me the hiring manager was in the back....okay? Can you go get him? And then he mopped and went to the back to go find this person, comes back and is all just like "yeah man, you gotta wait till we call you." Like really, is it so odd to want to follow up on an application? Second time I had asked him if they price matched amazon.com, and he blatantly laughed at me and was like "nah dude, they give cheaper prices because of the shipping" and I was just like "thought I would at least try.." and he just laughed. Ugh. I often stop in the store since I work at the mall. I feel like every time I'm in there I get weird looks. Just the other day I just ran in to see if they had a certain vinyl, - they didn't. And so I went back upstairs to exit the store and the manager is at the register and is laughing and staring at me with a customer. I work in customer service and am not one too complain, but I can't stand this manager. He makes me so uncomfortable when I visit. read more

Wow! The new place is freaking amazing! They have the most amazing clothes and shoes! They actually have zombie dresses and zombie boots that look like uggs! Tons and tons of clothes. It's totally a pain in the ass to get here because it's at the mall..but, sooooo worth it. It's located on the backside of the mall over by Crate and barrel..But, it has two floors now and it just packed with rock and roll goodness! Tons and tons of new and used DVDs..Especially horror! The Newbury Comics in Braintree had moved from a strip mall to the confines of the South Shore Plaza. This store is a two level store with the upper level having their clothing lines that is similar to their Hootenanny store in Harvard Square (which is presently being renovated). The lower level houses their large CD and DVD sections along with their gift and collectible sections. Browsing through the selection of merchandise can take you hours. After seeing their huge Norwood store a few days earlier, I have to rate this store as a 3 as it is still a little disorganized. read more

Love the new space! Going into a store like this can be a little intimidating because it's full of hipster gear, and I am not a full fledged hipster. However, the staff is always nice and they patiently answer your dumb questions. This store sells vinyl which I love, they sell the bobble heads that I collect, and their CDs are a great price. A new CD on release day is often less than $10. I go to Newbury Comics at least once a week and definitely love it! read more

I am giving this store one star because of the horrible experience I had. The encounter that I had with the 3 employees that was working at the time I was in there was the worst! So to keep this short I was with my 9 year old shopping and walked into newbury comics. I noticed that within a couple of minutes I was being followed. To make sure that I wasn't imagining things I started to walk to different sections of the store and everytime i did, the same sales associate was following me. I just want to say I was the only one being followed. There was probably 5- 8 other people in the store but this white girl decided to follow the black girl. I asked her if she was following me and basically she has nothing to say. So I decided to buy the sweatshirt that I found although I really didn't want to give this store my money. I went to the register and asked where the manager was. The kid at the register told me she was on the floor. I told him why I was asking. I was being followed for no reason and all I was doing was shopping like everyone else. He said that he doesn't think she was following me but I knew that she was, it was very apparent. The manager came and didn't say anything so I approached her and told her she needs to better train her employees and not follow people because of the color of their skin. She said we don't train our employees to do that and didnt even apologize. I proceeded to tell her that I was here shopping with my daughter and this made me very uncomfortable. She told me she thought it was a miscommunication but there was no communication! Just a girl following a customer. The kid who was ringing up my item also says to me oh that is a high theft area in the store! But wait I thought that she wasn't following me ??? And the manager again said nothing! My problem was that she choose to follow me for no apparent reason but for the simple fact that I was black. If we roll the tapes back I'm pretty sure it will back up what I'm saying, when my 9 year old daughter noticed she was following me. Now on top of all of this I have to explain to her what just happened. This isn't something I need to explain to my daughter, especially because of the ignorance of this employee. Its clear to me why the employee was the way she was because her manager was the same way. She is a poor excuse for a manager. I have never experienced worst customer service. Something needs to be done about these employees. I just want to say I am biracial and I am not one to ever say something happened because of my race if that isn't the reason. She clearly was racially profiling me and anyone like that should not be working at a retail store. The CEO of this company should not be ok with what is going on in this store and maybe the other locations too for all we know. read more
