I absolutely love Newcastle Produce! I've frequented this wonderful place for many years, finding unique sauces and fantastic local products... but what I really go out of my way for are the scones and the coffee. They serve the incredible local java from Valiant Coffee which is my personal favorite for lattes and always lifts my mood. I live in Rocklin and a 25 minute drive for a cup of coffee might seem silly, but wow is it magical to me. The scones are unbeatable and they have the most unique and creative flavors. Lately I've enjoyed the s'mores scones and the mocha scones (which are made with decaf, in case anyone is worried) but they've always got something unique and delicious in the pastry case. My partner loves their BYO sandwiches for lunch, and while I haven't tried them, they look delicious. When I'm hungry I go for the outstanding avocado toast. Everything is locally sourced and the balsamic/olive oil they dress the arugula with adds a flavor bomb that I can't get enough of! Service is always kind and courteous, and they give you a sticker for every espresso drink or sandwich you order... the 10th ones are free. Go support this wonderful local grocer/deli/coffee shop. If you're mining for a gold nugget meal, then stop by Newcastle Produce. I didn't know anything about this place; but a local friend suggested we grab an early dinner at their market. We had the pastrami sandwiches, chocolate chip cookie, and of course a cream filled pumpkin roll. Everything was fresh and excellent. The meatloaf is next on my list. Been shopping here a whole lot lately. It's AWESOME. Says produce market and they rock that but they serve so much more. Sandos are great (mushroom & pastrami are my go to's) pastries are inspired and take out dinners make it so I don't need to cook anymore. The produce section is still good. The store itself is still good but the DELI just keeps getting worse. The premade food in the deli looks days old and dried up. I ordered a vegetable sandwich and I had to spit out much of the vegetables because there was dirt in the lettuce and older cucumbers were soft. The turkey tasted like it had been frozen. This store is a bit of a mixed bag for me. The items are a bit pricey for produce compared to other places. The scones are very tasty. We bought some cherries to take home. These ones were from Lodi. They were good but not the freshest. We also ordered some directly from the farm in Lodi and had them delivered. Much better overall condition. They have a sign at the door indicating masks are required for entry. We had ours on, and have no problem wearing them in these current times. I do take exception to the lady serving us not wearing a mask at all. That's about it. A bit disappointing to say the least. read more

We were starving and we were only 1/2 way to Tahoe on Hwy 80. No, no I don't want any fast food please (I see your sign 'In & Out' but I will heed your call). We accidentally exit for Newcastle, thinking we were in Auburn. What a cute town! It reminds me of Capitola (town near Santa Cruz), with its winding roads, English Gardens and old Victorians. This place makes me think I could live outside of SF one day and be OK with my life. Newcastle Produce is much like it's faux cousin, Rainbow Grocery in San Francisco. Serving primarily local produce and various other organic, local food products. We entered on 4th of July weekend and were greeted with a local wine and cheese tasting for free :). Newcastle Produce offers a calender with food related events and a rotating menu throughout the year. The deli is really good stuff, I recommend the hot veggie panini with bell peppers and the "American" potato salad. Such awesome place, local businesses are inspiring. Stopped in for lunch and browsing all the goodies. I had half soup (vegetable) and half sandwich (cheese). All tasty and reasonably priced. A friend had some salads from the deli. My only complaint is all the plastic for "in store" dining. Plastic everything just to be thrown out in 20 minutes. For people dining in store, it seems like paper plates or paper boxes would be much better. read more

Great coffee, Temple is my favorite with the best oat milk creamer around! Be patient with the staff as a lot are newer right now. It was so nice to come back after over 10 years. The vibe throughout the store was kindness. There are so many options to choose from; sandwiches, salads, lasagna (next time) and ohh the bakery items. On this trip we went with build your own sandwiches & we loved the little clip boards with the order forms. We ordered 2 roast beef & a tuna on a croissant. All sandwiches were delicious and 2 of us could only eat half. So after having the best tuna sandwich here a few years ago, I finally made it back for another. But sadly they no longer have tuna on the menu. So I ordered turkey instead, it was good but nothing special. I paid extra for "avocado" which turned out to be a smear of some pre-packaged guacamole which was disappointing. Newcastle Produce is a long time eatery and place to buy produce. I have been there a number of times and seem to get the same thing quite often--chicken salad sandwich on a sourdough bread. They don't put enough salad in though, but it does taste good. The cookies are real good so long as you make sure you pick one that is less done. Sometimes they are over done and a touch hard. The flavor is real good, especially the chocolate chip. The staff always seemed very nice and even when it is busy they seem to get the order to you fairly quick. Please get better tables and chairs. Something sturdy and more rustic looking to match the nice old style fruit packing decor. It would change to a 5 if more meat and chicken salad was placed on the sandwich. read more

So so charming and a good attention to quality products. however - Newcastle Produce - please accept this as helpful input: I have seen the staff prioritize just about every possible task, including their own conversation, over even acknowledging a line of customers let alone actually helping them. And too often no one at the register, or no one to accept an order, or no barista to operate the espresso machine, yet close to a dozen young adults making batches of scones and salads and sandwiches that aren't even for the customers you have waiting in line! Prioritize those. Staff your meal prep production differently or at different times. An emphasis on the customer experience and service, and training to that end, would go such a tremendous way in making this spot the true gem it could be. read more
