My roof was 30 years old. I knew I couldn't wait much longer so I called quite a few companies for estimates. I decided to go with Newhaus because they were reasonably priced and Gabe seemed very knowledgeable. We signed the contract on 1/18/2021. They started on the roof on 2/4/2021. Three weeks later on 2/22/2021 the roof was finally done. The roof does look good and they did an excellent job of cleaning up. I give them an average rating for average work. I would just like everyone to know though what I went through to get that average work. The day after the roof tear off, Gabe brought Peter over to take a look. Peter told me that I needed all new plywood because the existing plywood was all damaged. This was going to cost me twice as much as the cost of the new roof. When I said I couldn't afford that he said that they could then put new plywood over the existing plywood and that would only cost the same as the new roof. I explained that I just couldn't afford that either and asked how much of my roof was damaged. Peter explained that over 50% of my roof was damaged. I told them I would have to think about it and get back with them. I cried all weekend because they had upset me so, thinking my roof was so bad. I called Gabe back and just told him to replace the 15% that was in our contract because I just didn't have that kind of money now that I was retired and living on a fixed income. He said no problem, the roof inspector came out and voila, cleared it good to go. Well after all that they didn't even replace the 15% that was in the contract. Finally after leaving my now exposed roof without shingles for almost 7 days, and being afraid of what might happen if it rained, they were finally back on 2/10/2021 to put down the underlayment. Just in time too because it rained that night. Another 7 days later and they finally came on 2/17/2021 to start putting the new shingles on. I have one valley on my roof that also needed to be done. When the materials were brought to my home it had been very windy that day. The metal valley flashing that was brought out had been bent by the wind. I had only mentioned it to one of the workers and they said they weren't going to use it, they were waiting for another one. No I didn't call Gabe because with that answer I assumed they had been in communication with each other. Well they started up the one side of my roof and as soon as I had to leave for a Dr. appointment they hurried up and put in the one valley over my garage using that bent up piece of metal flashing and no peel and stick barrier (which was in the contract). When I got home 2 hours later that valley was done and they were gone. My porch and mats by my front door were sop and wet and my bird feeder figurine was broken. My hose was in a different spot and I couldn't figure out why. I called Gabe immediately and told him I was not happy and explained the situation. He did send out another crew the next day to take the first attempt down and do it all over again. When I went outside that morning I realized that they (the crew from the day before) had used my hose and water to clean up the mess (instead of using the leaf blower they had used before) and broke the figurine. I had to watch them like a hawk that whole day to make sure they corrected their mistake. When they took the first attempt down there was no peel and stick barrier underneath (which was in the contract). I asked the new crew if they had the peel and stick barrier, they had to call Tony, and eventually had to go out and buy some. I took pictures of everything they did. I spent the whole day outside watching them. When the job was finally finished, I walked around looking at everything. They had used the wrong nails on part of the roof because now I can see them all poking through my eaves. While I didn't write a review then, I did sit down with Gabe and told him everything I have just written here. Well just a few days ago I opened my small metal shed to get my lawn mower out to cut my grass and noticed half my shed roof was caved in. When the roofers had been tearing the old roof off, apparently some of the shingles had fallen on this small metal roof and caved it in. I remember hearing a very loud sound but just figured the roofers knew what they were doing. The point is they couldn't even come to me and tell me what happened. They just let me find out for myself. I'm sorry, that's the straw that broke the camel's back. I did call the company then and told them how disappointed I was and that I would not recommend them. And that's when I decided to write this review. I just want to share what I went through so you all could just be aware that everything doesn't come up roses all the time. Yes the roof does look good and they did an excellent job of cleaning up. I shouldn't have had to watch them like a hawk, it shouldn't have taken three weeks to complete, and I shouldn't have had to worry. read more

When we purchased our house 5 years ago, we knew it needed a new roof but we delayed getting one as long as we could. We decided we couldn't wait any longer and started calling around town to get estimates. Every single roofing company and roofer in the valley I called either didn't return my call or told me it would take 1 week to schedule someone to come out, one place even told me they would have someone come out in 3 weeks just to give me an estimate. Also, these other roofing companies let me know even after they give me my estimate and chose their company, we would be put on a waiting list to actually start the work to my house. I wasn't about to wait 2 months to get started on my roof, it would be well into the rain season here in LA and we couldn't wait that long. Vic arrived at our house on time, adhering to COVID safety precautions(wearing a mask and keeping a 6ft distance), and being friendly as can be. Our roof needed a full tear down, down to the wood slats, and more. Vic was thorough, detailed, and I never felt he was bs'ing us on the work involved. He was able to put together a quote that we felt was reasonable and worked for our budget. Once we agreed on the price and the timeline, they were able to start literally the next day! Not in 1 month, not in 2 months, but the next day! The crew was respectful of our house and cleaned up everyday they were here. The entire time they worked on our house we felt we could trust the crew and the work being done. Both city inspections passed on the first round and the work they did was above and beyond our expectations. Just today Newhaus Roofing and Construction completed the overhaul and restoration of a section of tile roofing, and we are delighted with every aspect of the experience. To explain... We have a 90-year-old mission-style house with original - and hard to obtain - Spanish S-style clay tiles. A complex roofline with different gradients and intersections. We've been restoring the roof section by section, and last October, anticipating the storms, we decided to restore the only remaining section. It's hard to find a roofer with the skills to do this work, so we went to the roofers who'd done well for us earlier. They totally let us down - a survey visit but no quote after a month, and then they told us that they'd need 8 weeks from placing the order to line up materials! Meanwhile we were bailing out water during the storms. So right after Christmas we sent out requests for quote. And that same day, we had a call back from Newhaus to set an appointment the next day! Eric came by to survey the job, explained exactly what work should be done, and right there and then gave us a quote. Which came in under our budget. Every aspect of our interaction gave us confidence. Eric was a delight to work with. Turns out that Newhaus, although less known in the Bay Area, has been a very reputable firm in LA for many years. They were absolutely specific about the work that they would do, and they completely held to it. They started as soon as weather allowed and sent a crew specially chosen to work on fragile clay-tile roofs. Lifted and stored all the tiles, replaced broken ones. Removed the decades-old underlayment and replaced it with state-of-the-art material. Re-set tiles and cemented the ridgeline. At each stage, Eric kept us informed and checked the work to make sure that it met our requirements. And the result is beautiful. So we now have our trusted go-to roofer. My Husband & I are very Happy & Satisfied with our New Roof. it was done faster than the Time frame That we where given... I Do give them all around thumbs up. In each different job done each of those work crew worked hard & fast, even missed out on their lunch break to get the job done on time even through the harsh Santa Ana Winds we had coming out of the blue they clinched on tight & kept working very hard through that. They where Amazing on the job As the Homeowner & the client needing the Roof done I can understand now how hard these jobs are for the crews, it May sound like an easy job but it's very quite HARD.... unfortunately very little people/Customers don't see or understand that it's harder working on top on a very steep roof that actually doing construction from the bottom up. And if it wasn't for those harness they wear they would have fallen or flew off the roof with those crazy winds! Perfect Job or Perfect Business doesn't exist, but they do come so close Of coarse little minor stuff happened here and there BUT nothing that the Project Manager didn't find the solution or fixed it right away, he was on top of the work done daily & also in contact with me with any changes he would send me pictures of the views from the roof when each work step was done. We recently completed a big project with NewHaus. George was our project manager, assisted by Harry. We installed solar panels on our 30+ year old tile roof, but before we could do that we needed to reroof because the waterproof underlayer was original. We also had to reconstruct two "curtain" style windows that interrupted the eaves in our upstairs bathroom and were leaking. This required building a new extension to one part of our roofline. We consulted with various solar installers and roofing companies, and no one else was able and willing to complete all of the various components of our project. George and NewHaus provided a competitive quote and then followed through thoughtfully and helpfully with every part of the project. For example: the original solar panel quote did not size the system correctly to account for our new EV, so George and Harry spent a lot of time consulting with us and working with their solar installer to design a system that would maximize the sunlight falling on the panels. They even added 3 panels at no extra cost to us. They found that more of our concrete tiles needed replacing than in the original estimate, but did not charge for the extra tiles either. When one minor part of the construction did not come out quite right the first time, George was very responsive, identifying the problem and devising a great solution that looks wonderful. The new roof does not leak, as recent storms have proven. The solar panels are generating the expected power and possibly more, as the days are currently growing short. The new windows solved a longstanding problem with our home's construction. We used Newhaus to get a roof update. I was able get a free, onsite quote same day on a Monday. The work was finalized Wednesday the following week. Would have been sooner if the city inspector showed up on original appointment day, but COVID 19 backed things up. Chris was our contact throughout the entire process, from the quote to the final sign off of the project. He explained everything well enough enough for my husband and I to understand the scope of the project. Our original price had to go up because of the structure of our roof after it was stripped. They explained why they recommended additional work needed to be done and even showed my husband the damage. We felt very comfortable even after having to spend an extra $8k (). My dad knows a little about roof work so he checked out some of their work after the first couple days and had me ask about a few concerns he saw. Every contractor's dream right?? He was able to identify our needs for our rental house and gave us different options to meet our price. He provided regular updates and always maintained good communication. We gathered multiple quotes from roofing companies and NEWHAUS was very competitive. Don was willing to work with us when unexpected findings were discovered underneath the old shingles. However, the price was still competitive with the other companies. The workers arrived on time each day and completed the job quickly. Each day they cleaned up the job site and also picked up debris from our neighbors' property. The HOA for our 28 unit townhouse complex recently hired NewHaus to repair all of our exterior wood and siding and repaint the entire complex. The scope of the project was extensive since each unit has wooden window boxes on the kitchens and bedrooms with several areas containing extensive rotted wood. As the board member overseeing the project I worked directly with the project manager Chris throughout the process. Chris was responsive and very easy to interact with as we worked through the project. Given the extensive wood rot, we budgeted for change orders to cover any unanticipated repairs found after opening things up, but this ended up not being necessary. Any issue or request was always just met with "no problem, we'll take care of it". We ended up being able to afford extending the scope of the project to include repairing/painting our wood fence surrounding the property and burying draining lines for our rain gutters that extended over planter boxes before. Their primary request-via project manager Chris-was communication, a paramount concern with contractors I'd dealt with in the past. They told me what steps would occur, each carefully delineated in the project agreement. I was told what the operation entailed as far as employees, how many, when and what each day would bring. They worked around my schedule, were unobtrusive, considering I was working from home, and VERY clean, meaning daily cleanup was thorough beyond my expectation. I have 4 adjoining neighbours, arranged access in advance, had Chris introduce himself-not ONE complaint! A tenant told me to expect nails EVERYWHERE.. Chris himself admitted it may be difficult to get all strays- So far, 2 weeks after finishing- -3 NAILS They are great, easy to reach a person (rep) and made an effort to reach out to offer an alternative office rep, should I have any problems. Allen and Greg had visited us same day after our first contact and after providing presentation of what type of materials would be used we were very impressed. Throughout the process they were clear and concise with communication with us. When Allen and Greg arrived after demolition they had informed us that we had split decking and would need to overlay a OSB sheathing for the underlayment and waterproofing material before they add the new shingles so they could honor their warranty.
